Problem streaming HD Movies to Apple TV through home network

Got my new Apple TV yesterday but has some quirks. The biggest one is I'm in the middle of watching an iTunes HD movie I own -- streaming it to my Apple TV on my home network -- and the video starts stuttering halfway through the movie. It was playing with no sound, the video was jumpy, etc.
I stopped the movie, unplugged the Apple TV, tried playing the movie again -- I did this a couple of times -- and same result. This issue didn't happen until about an hour into the movie -- for the first hour of the show it played perfectly. Just before the movie, I'd watched an HD TV show I downloaded from iTunes earlier in the day, and was streaming this to my new Apple TV over the home network, and it played fine.
The other issue I'm seeing is it takes a looooooooooong time to load my iTunes Library from my computer. I selected my shared library, and then it takes about five times (or more) as long to load the list of movies compared to my older Apple TV (the previous generation 160GB hard drive model).
Is anyone else seeing these issues, and is there a fix?

I am having the same problem streaming HD anything, Movies or TV shows. It seems to try to buffer more of the video than when using SD video anything. When playing SD anything, it seems to start playing very soon after pressing play.
My content is on a spring 2009 iMac
CPU 2.93 GHz
4GB RAM
OS 10.5.8
Network
Wireless N (G,B 2.4 GHz) No G or be devices on network presently not switching to N only because iPhone 3GS doesnt 'support N.
Airport Extreme (man BS) -> Airport Extreme (Extend Network mode) -> Airport Extreme (Join Network Mode).

I'm having the same problem. It's not an issue with my TV, i've turned this feature off. I've tried playing with the ATV display settings but nothing works. When I stream netflix from my Samsung bluray player, I don't get the soap opera effect, but when I stream any video from the ATV, the soap opera effect is there. I'm thinking it's a choice that Apple made, but I really wish it could be turned off. Not a lot of people are searching for this, because it can be easy to overlook, but it's driving me nuts!

Problem streaming sound only to Apple TV

Apple TV with the latest software of of Nov 23
Macbook Pro with Retina Display running 10.10.1
- I can see my itunes lib through home sharing and is able to play movies, see photos without any issue.
- I can mirror my desktop using airplay and play movies and music without any issues.
The issue comes when I try to stream sound only on to Apple TV. I have the ATV connected to my audio player and stream Spotify. The sound is choppy and broken. Going against my instinct I purchased a new router (Asus RT-AC68U) which obviously was not the issue since airplay was working on when I mirror my desktop.
After a couple of hours with apple support, I saw on the forum that some people has issues with bluetooth. I TRIED TURNING OFF BLUETOOTH AND IT FIXED THE SOUND STREAMING TO ATV. I have an apple blue tooth mouse.
I tried both shortcuts, from preferences - sound - output and Apple TV and using Option + Sound Icon to select Apple TV instead of internal speakers. Both have the same problem.
I hope its a software issue rather than a hardware one and it can be updated soon.

A Follow up on this issue , bluetooth also stops AirPlay from working reliably.

Big Problems Browsing & Renting Movies on Apple TV

We have new problems on our Apple TV.
1) Our "All HD" browsing only shows titles through "Batman..." (or around there);
2) The "Top Movies" browsing only shows movie titles A partway through C (starting letter of title);
3) When you actually use the Search option to find and rent a movie title, a whole set of movies comes through WITHOUT any option to "rent" (and these are not just the ones that aren't available publicly for rent yet; e.g. we rented "Rachel Getting Married" two months ago on our Apple TV - now it shows up as only being available to buy...no rental option at all, regular or HD). It seems that the rental option only shows up for the movies that are actually viewable in points #1 and 2, above.
I tried going at it through "Genres" as well - and same issues: limited viewable titles, and limited rental options (way less than what I know can actually be rented - titles you could rent a month ago don't show up with a "rent" option at all).
SO - in sum: we are stuck not being able to view/browse most movie titles (limited to A, B,and a few C titles - and a few short lists like "Just Added," etc.), and it seems that ONLY those that we can view give us the option to rent (so of course this means our rent options are extremely limited as well).
WHAT is going on (?) and can Apple please fix this ASAP...the whole point of having Apple TV is to be able to easily download movies directly from the TV/Apple remote...I hope Apple isn't now requiring people to go back into iTunes to do this...that would take forever to download and THEN Synch on top of that.
This really needs to be fixed. (and FYI we checked for new Apple TV software downloads, says we're up to date; we checked for other updates - all OK; and we even unplugged the Apple TV unit and started it back up again...none of this helped)
Apple: please please respond to this. It's frustrating that this problem has been posted about several times already, and absolutely no response from Apple (on these discussion boards or in terms of providing a fix for this).

The limitation of approximately 200 titles has been discussed before, we can't be sure whether it will be something that gets fixed or not. I'm not really sure what your other issues are, if I use search instead of lists, I find whatever I want and am able to rent or purchase subject to those options being available for that particular title.

Streaming Rented Movies Error (Apple TV 2G)

I just purchased the new apple tv but the problem is when i try to preview the movie or play rented movie, i always get this error message "An error occurred while loading this content".
I dont know what to do, i tried restarting the router or plugin the Apple tv direct to the Ethernet but still the same problem.
P.S The Apple TV is updated the latest version 4.2

i have had a few errors each one unique, one is the standard error loading content. the other errors are something about needing an hdmi cable umm got one lol.. and the other error is the authorization.. i find simply unplugging the apple tv and plugging it back in works.. i don't use my unit very often its a trail thing..so far im impressed with the quality but not overly impressed with the amount of errors i get its only like a month or three old. id love to see more streaming 1080p content i would drop digital cable if they supported the 1080p and had a few more networks that carried some of my favorite shows.. i have tried resetting it and that don't do much either so i dono *shrug*
anyway if someone ever finds a work around or a fix let me know because unplugging and plugging it back in gets a little friggin annoying but it works.. if you don't mind the hassle

ATV2 problems streaming Netflix movies

Lately (even after February software update), hard-wired ATV2 starts/stops/starts every minute or so of first 15-30 minutes of streaming Netflix movies. Unable to stream at all during night of February 13. HELP!

I just purchesed an Apple TV unit about 3 weeks ago. about 12 days in, went to watch something on netflix and was informed that it could not access Netflix. I could look at my instant queue and search for films. When I would choose a film or TV show to watch it stated that it was unable to access Netflix at this time. I contacted Netflix and they said it was an Apple issue, I contacted Apple and they walked me through changing some settings (DNS) which didn't work so we restored those settings. They then had me unplug the apple TV from the wall outlet for one minute. After plugging it back in, everything worked fine. Now in the past 4 days I've had the same issue twice, and resolved the issue by unplugging the Apple TV. I hope that I don't have to keep doing this in the future.

Problem streaming music with New Apple TV- Anyone else?

I am new to Apple TV. I have been using a Sony BDP580 (DLNA) to stream my FLAC digital music via a wired LAN. It works flawlessly. I just got the new Apple TV for streaming. I set it up and home shared with my Itunes library containing AIFF digital music via same wired LAN. It sees everything but each time I start a song, it plays for about 35 seconds and then starts studdering and hestitates, finally stopping altogether and displays an error message saying, "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later." This happens everytime, with any song I select.
I assumed this was a buffering problem, so I tried same songs again but this time paused them immediately after starting the song. If I paused for 15-20 seconds, I got about 2.5-3 minutes of music before it did it's studdering thing and stopped altogether. If I paused for 90 seconds or so, I could get thru an entire 10 minute song. Seems to confirm a buffering problem.
I have not tried streaming MP3's yet but that is not my intention.
I realize that the software is new but this is basically unuseable as it currently functions. I am considering trying to return the the Apple TV. Are there similiar kinds of problems when new Apple TV software is released? If so, is Apple quick with fixes and updates?
By the way, I also got a new IPAD and love it.

I have an older PC with Windows XP Professional on it. I updated to the latest iTunes and I am able to access the photos, etc. on it. However, my Windows 7 PC still does work (since last Apple TV update). Apple TV does not recognize that Home Sharing is turned here. The latter PC has all my current photos on it which I would like share with others on my Apple TV. A fix would be appreciated.

Problems whit renting movies in apple TV

I have problems with renting movies on my apple TV. When i have entert my CVV code, appel TV tells me to verify my payment information in iTunes Store. Everything seems to be rigt in iTunes Store. Anyone ho knows how to fiks it?

I converted a video cam tape to a iMovie, and using iDVD burned it to a CD. Now I'd like to stream it to my Apple TV. Can I do that and if so, how.

Problems watching rented movies from Apple TV.

I'm having trouble watching a rented movie on Apple TV. The movie loads, but when I play the movie it gets "hung" and wont play. I've upgraded to the latest update and have tried re-starting Apple TV with no luck.

Need help, I built a home network using one airport extreme and Air port express. I wouls like to share the external multimeia HD to TV's in Home. But the home network doesn't recognize this external? how can I read Or share this external Multimedia HD in my home network and Tv?

Can I use apple TV on home network with time capsule or Airport Xtreme without being connected to the internet?

I'm wondering if I can use Apple TV to play movies and slide shows on my TV, play music over my sound system and print from my devices (Iphone 4S, iPad and MacBook pro 2011) by using an Airport Xtreme or Time Capsule (to back up the devices) if those devices are not connected to the internet. Can anyone advise pls? Reason for this is that I work on a moving ship and don't have an internet connection to speak of for much of the time (and if I do it's a wireless system that I need to pay by the minute and that is too slow to support the Apple TV), but would all the same like to create a wireless environment where my devices can interact with each other. I seem to get conficting info and a rep at the apple store in Honolulu told me that you cannot use Airport Xtreme or Time Capsule without an internet connection (it was busy, he may have misunderstood my question).

Don't try to home share it.. as that is dependent on using Apple ID.
Just airplay to the ATV.. iTunes: Using AirPlay
The movie should play exactly as your doing music.. but get rid of the whole home share if that is causing issues.. there is no mention of needing home share in the above..
If you still have issues you might need to do it other ways.. like export the movie from itunes.. and play it using vlc which should allow you to stream it to the apple TV using airplay.
That is a bit tricky and I have not used that setup but it should work.

If you have a hunt around you should find it fairly easy to do.. but straight airplay should work.. there is a very recent update to ATV which might help it with airplay.

HT5517 How can I adjust sound level when streaming radio from my Apple TV through Airplay speakers?

I have a 2nd Gen Apple TV with an airport express set up as airplay speakers. I can stream the new radio through using the Airplay speakers pretty well. The problem is that once I've got it going, I cannot adjust the sound level without laboriously backing out of the radio menu, going back to the top level menu then drilling down into the Airplay settings to raise or lower the speaker's sound level.
Is there an easier way to do this?

go to system preferences > Sound > Output. then change the output from "built-in" to HDMI.

Having trouble streaming a movie to apple tv - please help

I have a movie in the .dv format that i have taken from my time capsule to Itunes - I can play it in itunes on my macbook- i can not stream or sync the movie to atv - the closest i came was when a message came up that "apple tv did not sync the movie because it can not play the movie" once again I can play the movie without problem on itunes. I thought i was computer smart but this apple tv thing makes me feel really stupid

AppleTV does not plays dv files.
It basically needs things to be in MP4 or h264 foramat:

Go to squared5.com, download MPEGStreamclip and use that to convert DV to h264, you might try handbrake too, though I can't remember if it handles dv.
Things that play in iTunes don't necessarily plly on AppleTV.

Stream iphoto movies to Apple TV

I just bought the NEW, 3rd generation Apple TV. I am wondering if movies in my iPhoto events can be streamed to my Apple TV DIRECTLY FROM IPHOTO WITHOUT HAVING TO IMPORT THEM INTO ITUNES. Thanks!

Movies should be exported from iMovie using the Apple TV preset and placed in iTunes. Movie projects in iMovie are in an editable format which is not suitable for use with the Apple TV.
Photos from iPhoto should be placed in albums or events and shared via the advance menu in iTunes, they cannot be shared directly from iPhoto to the Apple TV.
nothing can be shared when the Mac is asleep, although you can set it to wake on network activity in the security system preferences.
