Problem streaming movies from library after update to 5.0.1

Hi, I just updated my apple tv to 5.0.1 and after doing so it is unable to load/play my videos from my home library.  It starts to do it but is v...e....r...y slow to load the video, as in, 1/2 hour has passed to get ready to play a 2 minute video and it still hasn't started yet.   Purchased tv shows work fine.  Netflix streams fine.  I have restarted the apple tv, itunes, and my airport.  Please help!  Everything was working fine before the update.  I have a first gen apple tv and the most recent version of itunes.

Try deleting the account(s) you're having problems with, resetting your phone (hold on/off and home buttons simultaneously 10-15 seconds until Apple logo appears, release buttons and wait for it to restart), then add back your mail accounts.  I've read that this has worked for some.

  • Problem Streaming movies from 1Tb External thru laptop to Apple TV

I know how to stream just fine, that's not the problem. This is what i do to stream, i go to itunes > pref > advanced > uncheck "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library." Boom, that works every time.
Here's the problem: I'm trying to setup my non-computer savy friends apple tv to stream through his laptop. He has an external 1Tb containing all his movies, and the movies stream just fine the first time i setup the process. But here's the deal breaker, If he opens itunes without the external being connected to his laptop (like any sane person would do with a wireless machine), all he11 breaks loose. Next time we go to play a movie through Apple Tv an error will display saying "unrecognizable file format," additionally, i click the movie in itunes and itunes can't locate the file.
Here's what i believe is wrong: iTunes is auto-syncing with apple TV every time itunes opens, thus, when the external isn't connected, the files can't be located messing up the whole **** schibang.
Here's what i've tried: clicked itunes > pref > apple TV > disable auto-syncing for apple tvs (unfortunately, this didn't seem to resolve the issue although it seems like it should have worked)
Would this do the trick?: Go to itunes > pref > advanced > and change my itunes music folder location to the location of the external and then stream as normal like i noted in the very beginning of this rant?...
I've also thought of keeping the iTunes music folder location set to the default and adding aliases into the actual folder in finder which then link directly to the external...
Please don't tell me that streaming from an external that isn't always connected to apple tv is impossible or i will for sure cry myself to sleep.
Any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thx!

This is not what allows you to stream... this allows you to put files (actually that path to the file) into the iTunes library without it being in the iTunes folder but that has nothing to do with streaming...
having the external connected or not connected should not affect your ability to stream later when the drive is connected... i have a feeling you actually may not know how to get streaming working and are actually syncing.
you have two ways to stream
    1) link the iTunes library to the appleTV to the as a purely streaming library or
    2) link the iTunes library to the appleTV as a syncing/primary library, go to the summary tab in iTunes and uncheck +show only synced items on appleTV+ (very important), then go to the media tabs in iTunes (click on appleTV under devices in iTunes tabs appear on the right) then turn off syncing for each type of media you don't want to sync
the two above methods is how you stream... what you described in your post doesn't allow you to stream.

  • Apple TV won't stream movies from itunes since installing latest update

I recently updated my Apple TV and have since been unable to stream movies from my iTunes library. Itunes and all other software is up to date. I even downloaded Mountain Lion OS just in case. Netflix and movie trailers work fine. Streaming from my computer seems to be the only problem.

I have since purchased a new apple tv which had worked fine until the update was offered. I downloaded the update and the problem happens again on a brand new machine.
Since then I have spent 2 hrs on the phone with apple without results. Followed by an hour on the phone with Linksys checking network issues. I was just wondering if this is a problem for anyone else? It's not a single device so it has to be a problem with the update intalled.
Linksys believes the update corrupted the apple tv's firmware. Has anyone else been experiencing problems?

  • I am having problems streaming movies to my ipad from my mac. The movie starts and then pauses and then starts again. any ideas?

I am having challenges streaming movies from my Mac Mini to my IPAD 3, the movie will load (after what seems a bit too long) and start to play. It then stops after 30-50 seconds and if I leave will start again, but repeat the start stop thing. Its almost like it stops to buffer than starts again. I have had the same issue appear wiht my Iphone 5.
    Thoughts?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Streaming movies from outside of iTunes Library

I would like to stream movies from an external hard drive to Apple TV2 without storing them in my iTunes music library which is on my internal drive. I know I need to do this through iTunes but I don't want to clutter up library as space is tight.
I don't want to move my entire music library to an external either as it complicates my time machine backups and hinders performance.
I think I need to somehow alias the movies in my iTunes library but can't find a way. Any clever (or blindingly obvious) solutions would be welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

    easy
assuming you have +copy files to ... when adding to library+ enabled in iTunes > preferences > advanced, simply option-drag the files from the external into an open iTunes window.
iTunes will index the path to the location of the files (the external), but not copy them physically.
be sure the external is mounted on your desktop before you launch iTunes if you want to play files from it.

  • Streaming movies from Time Capsule to Apple TV without opened iTunes Library

    Hello !
It is possible to streaming movies from my Time Capsule without using Mac or iPhone like streaming device
For example ( I am using Time Capsule for movies Libary, Apple TV for streaming movies, but when i have MacBook Pro off, my iTunes Libary is off and i can't  streamimg my movies directly)
It is possible streaming Movies on my Apple TV without opened iTunes on my Mac ? I mean if it is possible streaming directly from TC to Apple TV, when Libary it on TC.
    Thank you for your answears.

    Hi,
you can stream from the Time Capsule, but must always have a player in the middle, either an iOS device or a mac compatible with video airplay.
If you want to use an iOS device, you can get the app FileBrowser. This allows your device to stream videos from the timecapsule, play them, and play on the AppleTV.
As erfurtivo said, O!play works perfectly with the TimeCapsule, if you don't want more devices in-between.
    Hope this helped

  • Anyone having same problem? I phone 4 after updating to Vers.5.1.1. battery cannot be 100% full charge, always stop at 99% and battery drains off fast too :(

Anyone having same problem? I phone 4 after updating to Vers.5.1.1. battery cannot be 100% full charge, always stop at 99% and battery drains off fast too

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • Downloading rented movie from library to ATV

I rented a movie from itunes and downloaded it on my laptop. I have not watched the movie yet and I wanted to watch it on Apple TV (ATV). I open my itunes and it is listed on rented movies and gives me an option to "move" from library to ATV (only after I downloaded the new update), but it will not sync to the ATV. The syncing starts but then 10 sec later just returns to the orignal screen without transfer. Suggestions???

Only the newest iPods (Touch, iPhone, Classic, 3rd gen Nano) support rental movies. You've posted in the forum for a much older iPod, one that doesn't supprt videos of any kind. Which iPod do you actually have? When did you buy it?

  • Silverlight won't work in FF4.0, cant stream movies from Netflix. SL works ok in IE 7.0 What is wrong with FF??

I used FF to stream movies from Netflix until Dec2010. I have updated to FF 4.0 and now I can't down stream Netflix movies. I get an error from Netflix that says Silverlight is not working and must reinstall.
BUT......Netflix and Silverlight works fine with IE 7.0
    What happened to FF4.0..and Silverlight??

I just updated to the new Firefox and it wouldn't stream my Netflix movies. I was getting an error code related to Silverlight. I called Netflix and they had me enable my history and that fixed the problem. Their tech support, said the history/cookies must be enabled to stream movies. Hope this helps! (I also followed the prompt on the screen from Netflix with this error code to delete my old saved certificates, etc.)

  • Streaming movies from iTunes is taking up space on my iPad.

Hello.  I have couple iPad Air's and a iPad mini.  The issue I am having is happeing with all 3 devices.  We like to stream movies from iTunes.  What I have noticed is everytime I stream a movie it takes up anwhere between 2-5 GB splace under "other".  They are all 32GB iPad's.  I plugged in the iPad to the computer yesterday and it showed 19.2 GB under "other".  I have tryied everything.  Restore, reset, setting it up as new and can't get this issue to go away. This was happening before 7.1 came out.  I called Apple and they don't have a fix for it.  This is very frustrating, as after watching few movies I start getting a message that my memory is full.  My wife has used most of her space with apps and music, she has around 3 GB available.  After she watches 1 movie she gets a message that memory is full and can't stream any longer.  So looks like the temp files are not getting deleted.  Only way to get the space back is to restore the ipad and start over until it gets full again.

I wish that I had an answer for you, but I can't think of anything else to try. What I find so odd is that it happens to all 3 of your devices. That doesn't make sense at all unless it has something to do with how iTunes handles what is happening on the iPad when you sync your devices.
I update my iPhone 5S and my iPad 3 last night and then synced both devices with iTunes. When I plugged them into my MBP - they both showed an overcapacity it's due to "other". "Other" includes app data caches and when it grows out of proportion like that it means that something got corrupted. I synced the devices anyway, and the "other" dropped dramatically back to where it was on each device before I updated and where it should be.
What I'm trying to say is something may be getting corrupted when you sync with iTunes...what it is I have no clue.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

  • I bought a 3tb Time Capsule and would like to stream movie from it to my Samsung Smart TV.  Do I need Apple TV or Another App?

I bought a 3tb Time Capsule and would like to stream movies from it to my Samsung Smart TV.  Do I need Apple TV or Another App?

TC is not a media device.. it has no media smarts at all.
And Apple TV is not a media player .. it is strictly a streamer.
Apple have built their entire media system around itunes.. so without itunes running on a computer nothing will happen.
The TC is unsuitable as location for your iTunes library as well.. you are simply slowing down the access to the library and making streaming more prone to glitches.
    TC is for TM backups.
Use your Mac with iTunes library on an external hard disk if it is too big to fit in the internal disk.
The samsung TV cannot use the TC either because it needs a DLNA server extension on the storage.
There is however one way.. and not recommending it.. just saying it can be done.
Depending on how your media files are formatted.. you can use a WD live TV.
Because WD TV is a full media player and can play raw media files (almost any format) directly from a media source without DLNA, you can play your movie files.. but IMHO it is much easier to simply get a WD MyCloud or any cheap NAS.. that has built in DLNA media server.. almost all do.. and then your TV can play the media directly without any other player.

  • ITunes 7.0.1(7):  Problems Downloading Movies from iTunes Store

Prior to installing the iTunes 7.0.1(7) upgrade, I had no problems downloading movies from the iTunes store. After I noticed that there appeared to be rate-limiting on the inital movie that I purchased, I simultaneously downloaded three other movies and watched one of the movies while they were downloading.
No problems with downloading multiple movies but severe problems with using iTunes 7.0.0 as a viewer. An inadvertent movement or click of the mouse resulted in the video portion of the movie disappearing. To solve the problem, I created symlinks in the QuickTime Player's ~/Movies directory to the downloaded movies. Using QuickTime as a viewer was a significant improvement over iTunes.
Upgraded to iTunes 7.0.1(7) when it was released. Today I discovered that the release has significant problems downloading movies.
After the initial download of the movie to /private/tmp, the iTunes download panel displays a message stating that it is processing the file. One would assume that it is inserting the chapter bookmarks and transferring it to the ~Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies directory.
Not so. Its downloading the movie a second time. The processing file message is displayed a second time followed by a pop-up window reprting that the file is corrupt with an error code of 10008. Looks like one of Window's infamous network error codes. Wonder what it's doing on a Mac?
Enough of my diatribe. Are others seeing this? Do you have a "work around" or solution to the problem?
    PowerBook 17, PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes 7.0.1(7)

I did run Disk Utility after reporting my problems here and to the iTunes Store. The "Check Permissions" scan found two iTunes with the incorrect permissions. As the permissions were correct prior to the upgrade, I presume the executable permission flags were turned on during the upgrade. Repaired the permission problems.
Also, I performed a reboot as was mentioned in a discussion of a slightly different problem. I was able to download one of the movies. The second failed about half-way through the download with a 9006 error.

  • Streaming movies from iPad to apple tv

    Hi
I have just updated my iPad software to the new iso.
I am trying to stream movies from my iPad to the new apple tv but I can only hear the sound and I don't get the actual vedio.
The main reason why I got the apple tv was that I would be able to stream vedio to the tv from my iPad.
Please let me know what I need to do.
    Thanks
    Itai

I am with you on that. I can stream music from the iPad straight to the home cinema system through apple tv. I can also use the iPad as a remote to stream movies and pics from the Mac.
But can't seem to throw movies or photos directly from the iPad to the screen via apple tv.
Another annoyance is that as I type this from the iPad the cursor clicks can be heard through my home ent system as I am streaming music from my iPad simultaneously.
    Any help!
