Problem streaming netflix/youtube

2010 mac book pro with running 10.6.7.  my problem is that when using either firefox, safari or chrom when i stream videos from netflix or youtube, the stream dies somewhere in the middle of the video.  there hasn't been any consistency as far as where i lose the stream.  sometimes netflix will buffer 30 minutes, sometimes 90 minutes, sometime less than a minute.  with youtube, an average 4 minute clip gets halted after a couple minutes or so.  with youtube, if i change the resolution of the clip from say 360 to 480, that jump starts the video stream again, although sometimes that stream dies too.
i don't think this is a problem with my router because when i stream netflix onto my xbox it works fine, and when i run windows 7 via bootcamp, my pc browsers stream videos better.  also when i watch videos on hulu.com (while running os x) i don't have these streaming problems.
anyone have any thoughts or has faced this problem before?
thanks

try update firmware of this router and try to change channel
maybe there is some interferences

  • ATV2 problems streaming Netflix movies

Lately (even after February software update), hard-wired ATV2 starts/stops/starts every minute or so of first 15-30 minutes of streaming Netflix movies. Unable to stream at all during night of February 13. HELP!

I just purchesed an Apple TV unit about 3 weeks ago. about 12 days in, went to watch something on netflix and was informed that it could not access Netflix. I could look at my instant queue and search for films. When I would choose a film or TV show to watch it stated that it was unable to access Netflix at this time. I contacted Netflix and they said it was an Apple issue, I contacted Apple and they walked me through changing some settings (DNS) which didn't work so we restored those settings. They then had me unplug the apple TV from the wall outlet for one minute. After plugging it back in, everything worked fine. Now in the past 4 days I've had the same issue twice, and resolved the issue by unplugging the Apple TV. I hope that I don't have to keep doing this in the future.

  • Problem streaming Netflix HD,

Just purcahsed a new sony KDL-46ex701 and was very delighted to get streaming HD from netfix.
Unfortunately, I found out that it only seems to work at off peak hours -  great at 2pm tuesday, impossible to use due to netflix reloading every 2 minutes at 6pm weds.  I have 15 mbit download service.
Obvioulsy the equipmnet is ok beacuse it works some of the time.
Netflix tech support suggest it was verizon flucuation in service.
Anyone have any suggestions or similar experiences?
    Thanks

Same problem here. Netflix HD freezes after playing for a few moments, then continues with random freezes.  I have my own router. Unplugged Verizon FIOS and  plugged in a my backup internet connection, a Clear Wireless modem, while it is a much slower connection, no more Netflix HD freezing, works fine. When I switch back, same issue. This isolates the issue to Verizon.
I won't be calling Verizon until their strike has ended, so for now I will be using wireless to watch Netflex movies.  Any utilities out there to trace where the connection is dropping and re building?

  • E1500 wireless router having problems streaming video and netflix

We got a new E1500 router 2 nights ago. The internet works fine, but it has big trouble streaming videos and Netflix, those types of things. I have changed my MTU setting and all the settings suggested in the "Guide Me" section. My drivers are up to date on my router and on my pc. It just started happening with this router. We had a Netgear before and we have no problems streaming at all. I have rebooted and reset the router and cable modem.
Does anyone else have some suggestions I can try?
    Thanks,
    Debbie

The concern that you have is for both wired and wireless or just for the wireless? If it is for wireless then try these troubleshooting steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Then go to the Wireless tab, change Channel width to 20 MHz only and change the Channel to 6, 9, 11...Save the settings..
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
Then check the status of streaming video and netflix.

  • HT4623 Videos from Netflix, youtube, etc. frequently stop, freeze and run out of sync on my ipad gen4.  Any hints as what to do to correct this problem?

Videos on my ipad 4gen stop, freeze and when they do restart at times are out of sync.  This happens on Netflix, youtube, FoxNews, etc. Any suggestions as to the problem or correction.

The most common cause of this type of issue is an inconsistant or slow internet connection.
But, you might want to try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

  • I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).

I am unable to stream Netflix to my Iphone or Apple TV, from my wireless router . . . even though I am able to watch Netflix on my WII (also wireless) and desktop computer (not wireless).
On the Iphone and Apple TV I can connect to Netflix . . . it recognizes me and my account settings . . . and I can veiw all my recent programs and show titles, descriptions, etc..  But when I select one to watch I get a message saying:
"ERROR A PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE PLAYING THIS ITEM. TRY AGAIN LATER, OR SELECT A DIFFERENT ITEM. GO TO WWW.NETFLIX.COM/SUPPORT FOR MORE INFORMATION. (139)
Netflix support say there is nothing wrong on their end . . . that it is an Apple issue.  They see the request for the show, the devices are registered . . . but it shows 0 bandwidth to the device.
My Apple TV did this when I first hooked it up a couple of weeks ago.  Then after a few days started working with Netflix, for no apparent change . . . now doesn't again for the past couple of days (I think that it auto restarted the other night after a virus scan).
Very frustrating, and driving me nuts!  Has anyone else had and been able to resolve this problem?

    Troubleshooting
Apple TV2 update one day and netflix is browsing but not launching the actual content (error 139)
Ipad2 (another ios device) forces me to update netflix if I want to use it and I get the same error 139 on it.
**** now I have two not ways not working where prior to some update it was fine.
Nintendo Wii is still working ( mind you running an ancient version of netflix )  Dusted the Wii off and gave it to the kids use.  Now they are happy again...
PC is also still working ( using some other flash client ) but that's just of interest, we're not going to be watching tv with that.
My wife's iphone 4s is still working.  Odd.. still ios but for somereason I am not forced to update the version. So basically she could mirror stream up to the apple tv with it.  Nice feature of Ios5.  Later found out it is using 1.4 version of netflix.  The most useful thing out of that is that all 3 of the devices are Ios and it was actually the iphone with the 1.4 version of netflix that still worked!
I heard from a friend who was on a different ISP he was still working so I took my appletv2 and ipad2 over to my brothers house who is on that same ISP as my friend and both started working.  So the ISP is involved too!
Brought the appletv2 and ipad2 back to my house hoping it would maybe still work.  No dice   Broken again.
Searched the appstore for a decent packet analyzer and there isn't really anything.  I was able to sniff the traffic with my PC and also on my juniper ssg5 confirmed that.  Turns out port 80 traffic is actually failing and authorization is not happening.  The other clients do not do this...
Asked a buddy from work who used to work at the ISP if he could make a call to some one who might actually know what is going on.  He came back pretty quick and said yea they are trying really hard to get the beta patch in from Bluecoat asap.
So knowing that it was actually Netflix that changed when it hit 2.0 and in my case the ISP made the adjustment it's pretty safe to say this issue is going to be ongoing unless netflix changes again the way they authorize for licenses.
So that's the summary of what went right down the troubleshooting path but I'll tell what what didn't
2 calls to Netflix (useless... waste of time... they are too quick to blame anyone but themselves)
1 call to apple support (support call was going to cost more than it cost for me to change ISPs)
2 calls to ISP (through the normal means - regular support number)
So why is this intermittantly working sometimes?  If you are lucky enough to authorize to an IP address that is not cached they voila you are going to get an authorization / a license to watch the show.  Some people report after defribulating their appletv (reseting, rebooting, dns changes, you name it) they get it working.  Over the past month we all seem to have got it working for some period of time only to lose it a day to two later.
It's now been several days since the beta patch to the bluecoat and 4 of us who have been communicating on the issue appear to be online all at the same time for those several days and that is a good sign that we might be out of the woods on the issue.
Hope this turns into something helpful for someone else out there.

  • After upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer or even off my iTunes library

after upgrading to mountain lion, i cannot play any video at all, be it directly off a DVD, or through streaming like youtube, BBC iplayer, love film or even directly off my iTunes library. in each case, all i get is a black screen and no error message.

Hi, i had the same problem and tried this,
Somehow iTunes is tied to Safari. Try this:
Someone mentioned to clear all website data and history in safari, stupid but it was either this or the below that fixed it
    or this,
    Disable Wi-Fi Networking Services
Many users have reported that they’ve solved their issues by disabling Wi-Fi Networking under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. This only relates to your location being used for Wi-Fi Networking, so it doesn’t disable Wi-Fi entirely.
Please let me know if it works.

  • Problem with netflix after upgrading to firefox 6

now that I have upgraded to firefox 6 I can't instant watch netflix anymore. please help I'd rather not have to use a different browser to do this.

    '''SOLUTION'''
The problem with Netflix streaming with the FireFox 6.0 version is that the Netflix service '''refuses '''version 6.0 because they are A) unwilling to license it '''''or''''' B) too lazy or stupid to add the new version to their User Agent acceptance scheme. C) under contract to MICROSOFT to use Silverlight and part of Silverlight's DRM is what Browser versions are acceptable and Microsoft is taking their sweet time updating Silverlight to push I.E. on people and if you have Beta 5 Silverlight forget that -------Until Netflix accepts Firefox 6.0 as a legitimate Netflix browser '''you may do what I have done to get Firefox 6.0 streaming at Netflix.'''
    1) Open Firefox 6.0 and enter "www.whatsmyua.com" without quotations in the address bar and highlight and copy your present User Agent string from the top of that page when you get there.
    2) Type "ABOUT:CONFIG" without quotations in the Firefox address bar and hit enter then answer the You might destroy the world question with Alright I'm ready.
    3) Right click on the background of the Config screen and then highlight to click on the "New String" choice... When the box comes up enter "general.useragent.override" without quotations and hit return
    4) When another box appears paste in your current User Agent string you copied in step 1) BEFORE hitting enter place your cursor on your paste and right arrow to the end of the line. EDIT/REPLACE "6.0" with "5.0.1" without the quotations. Enter your change and close out the Config page.
    5) Repeat step 1) to make sure the User Agent string is now spoofing your browser as version 5.0.1
    6) Go to Netflix and watch movies (Make sure Silverlight and the Firefox Java are on). If it was working before the upgrade, everything should now work again streaming Netflix with Firefox 6.0.
    7) Call Netflix and tell them Dave sent you to see if they're stupid or just lazy and to quit spreading the B.S. that Firefox 6.0 ain't workin when we know it's Netflix (1-866-636-3076)

  • Video streamed from YouTube using the Apple Composite AV Cable

I used to have video streamed from YouTube on my iPad to my TV using the Apple Composite AV Cable, this was in previous versions till the iOS 6 release, then YouTube no longer streams video through this cable :'(
Very annoying really to miss a feature through a software upgrade!
    Please help me.

Looks like the connector that goes into the iPad doesn't precisely connect all pins and lock the whole thing in place as well as we would think an Apple-branded product would. I discovered after four hours that if I pull my AV composite cable from the iPad without turning the iPad off (not the Apple recommended way - perhaps there's a better way, like replugging with it off?) and plugging it back in, *poof* I get video again. Now, Netflix still isn't working, but U-Tubes and photo slideshows are back with awesome-quality sound. I believe I'll get similar results when I try this on my iPhone 4.
I guess Apple TV is really the only way to get the luxury back of being able to stay focused on your entertainment and not this equipment because this was spozed to be a movie nite for me four hous ago. I just wish Apple TV had as much content as the Roku.
Anyway, just plug and re-plug, but don't be too hard on it. You might also have to turn widescreen off and back on again.

  • Ipad Streaming Netflix via HDMI Cable Again

My Ipad quit streaming Netflix to our TV through an HDMI cable in early October, right after iOS 7 and the Netflix software update came out.  Netflix issued version 5.02 in late October, and siad that fixed the problem.  But that still did not help.  Now  Applle has issued iOS 7.0.4 to fix some bugs.  They did not indicate that this was one of the bugs.  But we can now stream to the TV over the HDMI cable again.

No.  The Videos app should work fine.

  • Buffering for streaming except youtube

Hi guys, i need a help.
I have a streaming issue, it is keep buffering.
I have a very good wifi connection with 18mbps download and 0.20mbps upload (speedtest on ipad)
I got no issue when i streamed on youtube, i can play hd quality without buffer.
But it is buffering like **** when i streaming on the other websites from my ipad, but when i using desktop computer it was no problem at all on these websites (with same internet connection)
How can this happen? Is there any solution?
Im using ios 6.1 ipad mini.
    Really appreciate your reply. Thanks.

Try closing  all of the apps on your iPad. Reboot the iPad and see if that helps with the Internet videos.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that doesn't work, clear Safari and restart the iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

When i select the "Full Screen" option in video streams (like youtube, veoh, anything like that) i can do that one(1) time second(2nd) time the screen goes blank and can only exit it with the escape(Esc) button and then i have to restart firefox and again i have my one "Full-screen Ticket"

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Wireless buffering problem on Netflix

I have had my ATV for over a year and just recently while streaming netflix movies, i get a buffering freeze and and automatic return to the menu. This is really an annoyance. Buffering doesn't bother me as much but the menu changing does. I restored this and reset it and hooked up the the network direct and had no problems but when wireless and streaming on Netflix, I have the problem. This is new it never did this before.

    Yes.
Did you install parallel tools and it's drivers? Very important!. You have to make sure that your adaptor setting is correct under network adaptors.

  • After Firefox did a security update yesterday, I cannot stream Netflix. It is not any of my addons because I disabled them and still cannot stream.

I can no longer stream Netflix after the security update. I keep on getting a system requirements message form Netflix. It worked fine before the security update and I can stream on IE.

  • Since my last software update, I cannot stream netflix

Please help. Since my last software update, I cannot stream Netflix movies. What is the solution?

MichelPM is correct. Here's my experience.
MacBook Pro  / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better.  Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG.   However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success.  So here's what I did:
    1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
    2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
    3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
    4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
    5. Go back to the Get  Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
    6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
    7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
    8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!
