Problem synchronising calendar - warning - will delete iCal appointments on my computer

Update:
I found the answer to my problem below on this forum - please, for anyone with the same issue, look under the topic "calendar delete" - you will find that a user JamisonF (Jamison Firestone) answered it perfectly - it works. You have to delete your blackberry 'history' first and start with a new 'first time' synch. I got into new trouble for a bit, as I deleted the blackberry app, before I found and deleted the folder Mr Firestone suggested and so got a new version of the Bberry software that then didn't recognise I had the iCal at all - I had to add a new calendar (someone else's suggestion on this forum!) - now I think it is all ok. But goodness me - what an incredibly, painful, unnecessary ad overcomplicated process for SOMETHING THAT WE RELY ON BLACKBERRY TO PRESERVE - OUR PRECIOUS DATA THROUGH SYNCHING! Sorry - but it is an enormous, gi-normous, huge, unforgiveable failure on the part of Blackberry that it is so badly messing up synching and making us all live in fear of losing our data - SYNCHING WITHOUT FEAR OF DATA LOSS IS FUNDAMENTAL!!!. It makes me see red. Does anyone remember Palm Pilots - synching was beautiful - you saw the synching happening, you resolved conflicts as they occured, no double entries, no failures. It is possible - and this was years ago!!! The technogeeks are making it worse - they are overcomplicating and costing people time, anxiety and headaches. I now feel LUCKY if I even get my data in the right place - I don't even care anymore if I have double entries - THAT MY DATA IS STILL THERE SEEMS TO BE LIKE A BLESSING. IT SHOULD NOT BE THIS WAY. Is this why Blackberry is about to go out of business. There - said it!
Hello - I wonder if anyone can help me.
When I synch my blackberry curve with iCal on my mac using the bberry software, I see the following message.
"A large amount of your organizer data has been deleted from your device. If you continue, this data will also be removed from your computer. Are you sure you want to remove this data from your computer?" The options presented are "Delete data from the computer,  Add data to device orCancel"
I can see on the blackberry calendar some shadowy appointments from several years ago that look like they used to be there - some calendar items must have been deleted from my blackberry in the past in error. I want to put all the old records of appointments from years ago that are in my mac iCal back on my blackberry. Yet the warning above sounds final  - "if you continue...this data will also be removed from your computer" which would be a disaster.  Yet that option - "Add data to device" sounds promising?? Could anyone help and tell me what happens if I press "Add data to device"? Will that put my computer calendar data back on my device or will that simply be me "continuing" and will all my mac calendar data be erased?
Many thanks in advance - I am afraid to synch in case I lose all the calendar appointment records I have stored - some from when I had my son, which are precious memories. Any help would be very gratefully received. Sam

I was finally able to reset iCal on .Mac

  • ITunes deletes song files from my computer when I sync a device

When I sync a device in iTunes, it will sync fine and copy over all the files I need it to, but sometimes it will delete those files from my computer after it finishes copying them over. I'm not sure why this happens, I just know that I definitely have the songs on my machine before the sync, and afterwards, exclamation marks will begin appearing next to some of the items that were just synced over. It isn't a problem with the music files themselves, because it might only delete a few songs from an album that I imported all at the same time. It isn't just one device either, it's happened with all of my devices: an iPod Shuffle 2nd and 4th gen, Nano 5th and 6th gen, Classic, iTouch, and iPhone 3GS and 4GS. I've set iTunes to automatically copy music files into the iTunes media folder, and keep it organized, so I try navigating to the folder where the files would be, and the files are just not there anymore, or anywhere in the media folder; there's nothing in the reclycling bin either. The lower bit rate music file will be on the device still, but that's the only copy to be found anywhere. I have a fairly large iTunes library - about 90 GBs of music, and over 100 GBs of Movies and TV shows - but I'm not sure if that's part of the problem or not, though it does slow down iTunes a great deal when editing file info. I only know that it happens with music files, since I don't really sync over the other types of media as much. I believe that it might have something to do with the 'Convert higher bit-rate songs to ___ kbps' function, because it appears that only files that are higher bit rates than that setting will be deleted.
I've tried dealing with it for awhile, but it's getting to be a real pain to go find and re-import all of those CDs, so I'm hoping someone can help me with why it happens or at least a way to stop the deletions. Maybe someone else is having this same problem as well?

  • Default Calendar Items Will Not Delete or Integrate!

HELP! - Hope some good detail.  I think others are struggling with this:
I have an 8330 from Verizon and somehow most of my calendar appointments have been moved into Default Device, as opposed to being tied to my single Verizon/MSN Calendar CICAL.  Guessing, but I think this happened when I got disconnected from email for some reason, which is again is MSN email passed through Verizon.  I called Verizon, and I know they "re-registered" or "reintegrated" me and sent new service books, which worked for re-establishing email.
But I suspect it overwrote my email calendar CICAL which kicked all appointments into Default - just a total guess.  I didn't notice until trying sync a little later and the process wanted to delete all Outlook appointments; apparently the Default Calendar is not visible to sync.  By the time I noticed, I had 4 new appointments in my new msn.com CICAL, and 99 in Device Default.
There is a workaround fix I saw in another thread which should have worked - KB16063 below:
    Cause 3
Meetings created in Microsoft Outlook are being synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone's base system calendar, instead of the database belonging to the BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] service record.
    Workaround
Clear and restore the calendar data on the BlackBerry smartphone.
Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager, back up the BlackBerry smartphone calendar data. For instructions, see KB11297.
Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager clear the BlackBerry smartphone calendar database.  For instructions, see KB05340.
Manually delete all but one BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] service books, by completing the following steps:
On the BlackBerry smartphone, go to Options > Advanced Options > Service Book.
Delete all but one BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] service books. Each integration will have an integration named service book, such as <BlackBerry Internet Service integrationname>[CICAL].
Perform a hard reset of the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions, see KB02141.
Restore the calendar data to the BlackBerry smartphone. For instructions, see KB10339.Important: Should another BlackBerry Internet Service [CICAL] service book be sent to the BlackBerry smartphone, this workaround will need to be repeated in order to move the appointments to the newly sent calendar service.
I followed it exactly, with the exception I had no other other CICALs to delete in Step 3, so could do nothing there.  The only one listed with the CICAL listed corresponding to my e-mail address.
I ended up exactly where I was when I started.  My wife's phone had the exact same problem: email stopped called Verizon, email re established; calendar items moved to Default Device.  I called Verizon last night and they were mystified.  No success.
Any input would be appreciated!  Sorry about all the detail...

    Hi,
You can do it through the Storm or the PC.
I find it easier to use the PC when I am working on the Storm:
The link is attached. Do you have any experience with the BIS site?

  • Deleted iCal Calendar

    Hello,
I inadvertently deleted a calendar in iCal.  I sync via iCloud across several devices and once deleted by accident on one, it wiped it out.  I back-up using CrashPlan and attempted to restore the entire folder Users->Username->Library->Calendars.  It caused iCal to crahs 2X but after restarting my computer it will open but without the missing calendar.
    1. Is that calendar still saved somewhere?
    2. Do I need to restore the whole computer to earlier today?

    Tim,
    I'm not familiar with CrashPlan.
Perhaps the instructions listed in: Restoring iCloud calendars from Time Machine, by Roger Wilmut can be adapted to your situation.
    Good Luck.

  • ICal app opens, stays open, but my calendar window will not come up

very frustrating. I'm all up-to-date with software updates. As of last week, iCal opens, remains open, but I can't see my calendar window.
I go to Window, Calendar... nothing. Any suggestions will be very helpful.
    Running Tiger (10.4.9) on a Powerbook 17" 1GHz. iCal version 2.0.5 (1069)
    Thanks

I've got a similar problem, though with an intriguing difference. iCal opens, and stays open, but nothing is visible, same as you.
But... day view works, month view works, but WEEK VIEW is completely blank.
Not only that, if I have ever tried WEEK VIEW (and got a blank), then subsequent attempts to use both day and month views are significantly disabled, in that there are no buttons down the bottom right-hand corner (search results/todos/info) - I can no longer show/hide any of these any more, until I quit iCal and relaunch.
Week view was originally my default view, which may or may not be relevant.

  • HT2513 delete online calendar events from my iCal?

Does anyone know how to unsubscribe from an online calendar?  I hit the iCal instead of RSS subscription button and now my iCal is filled with 2-4 identical items every day!  It's on every device so it must be going through iCloud.

    Hi Applepeople1,
If you suspect your calendar is on iCloud, you can login to your account at www.icloud.com.
Click on the Calendar section of the link below from the iCloud help site.
    iCloud Help: Delete a calendar
    Delete a calendar
When you delete a calendar from your Calendars list, all events associated with the calendar are also deleted.
You can’t delete all of the calendars in the list because the list must always must contain at least one calendar.
WARNING:  Any calendar deletions you make appear on every device where you turned on iCloud Calendar. For example, if you have iCloud Calendar turned on on your iPhone and your Mac, when you delete a calendar from iCloud Calendar on the web, the calendar is also deleted from the Calendar app on your iPhone.
    Delete a calendar
    Click Edit in the sidebar.
Click the Delete button to the right of the calendar’s name.
Click Delete Calendar. If the calendar is shared, a window appears asking whether or not to send a notification email to calendar participants. If you choose not to notify participants via email, they’re notified the next time they sign in to iCloud that the calendar is no longer available.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Why does my calendar delete my appointments?

I opened my Macbook Pro Retina today and looked into my calendar to check something in December and find out that the calendar has deleted some of my work shifts. I have done absolutely nothing to provoke this and it has happened before with my notes.. It was the same, I suddenly a bunch of them deleted as well.
It's a really big problem.. Have anybody tried something similar?
    Thanks!

We want you to enjoy all those important events on your Blackberry Torch BBTorch69! Is this a recent occurrence? Have you checked your calendar settings to see how they are set? 30 days is usually the maximum for keeping appointments. The device is designed to delete older appointments to ensure space is free to keep current data.

  • Warning: Ovi Suite Will Delete Outlook data

When syncing with Outlook, Ovi Suite will delete what you have in Outlook, if you delete it on the phone.
This happens even when you request no deletions to be done.
Recommendation:  Backup your Outlook PST file before sync'ing with Nokia.

    Success!!
Nokia Care came through for me!
    Pretty complex procedure though.
    Try this:
    1. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
    2. Go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel.
    3. Remove Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
        Remove Nokia Ovi Suite
        Remove PC Connectivity Solution
    4. Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner from
    http://www.nokia.dk/produktsupport/download-software/pc-suite/how-to/nokia-pc-suite-cleaner
    5. Reboot
    6. Download latest version of OVI Suite from
    http://www.nokia.dk/produktsupport/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite/compatibility-and-download
    7. Turn off you AntiVirus/Spyware and Firewall(Including Windows Firewall is enabled) software before you start the install of OVI Suite- very important!!
    8. Reboot after installation of OVi Suite
    9. Do not start OVI Suite yet after reboot!
    10. Make sure your AV Software/firewall is not turned on.
    11. Connect your phone using your USB cable.
    12. The drivers should install without any problems. Takes a minute or so.
    13. Start OVI Suite after Windows reports that the installation was succesful.
    Everything should work now

  • Had to remove itunes from my computer to reset the computer. Now I'm having problems syncing my iphone with the computer. Computer is saying it wants to download updates to the phone but that will delete things I downloaded straight from the phone. Help!

Had to remove itunes from my computer to reset the computer. Now I'm having problems syncing my iphone with the computer. Computer is saying it wants to download updates to the phone but that will delete things I downloaded straight from the phone. Help!

iTunes thinks you have a new computer because you restored the OS. Open iTunes and authorize it to the same account you have on the iPhone. Did you restore your iTunes content from a backup after resetting your computer? Have you been syncing regularly with the computer, and does the iTunes library on the computer contain your apps, music and videos? If so just sync and your content will be removed then restored.
If you have not hopefully you have now learned something. You can recover apps and purchased songs by connecting the phone, without syncing, and choose "Transfer purchases..." from the File menu.

  • Putting iCal appointments/meetings on my Outlook calendar

My daugher (and soon my wife) use the Mac/iPhone combo. My office requires us to use outlook. I want to have a family calendar where they can send me "meeting notices" (swim meets, playdates, etc) and have them show up on my work/Blackberry calendar.
Is there a way to do this short of major surgery?

    Ken Abbott,
iCal published calendars use the iCalendar standard. Outlook 2007 and Vista's Windows Calendar are supposed to be able to subscribe to these, but I am not positive of the steps to do so. This article on Microsoft's website may be useful:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA101673251033.aspx
You will need a place to publish the calendars to. Currently iCal supports publishing to .Mac or to a WebDav server.
Subscribed users are able to view only published calendars. Additional features have been announced for iCal in Leopard, and can be seen here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/features/ical.html
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Calendar will delete all events every time I update it

Every time after my mom updates her iPhone 5, it will delete all events she created. It happened with the last update, and also happened with the most revent update, which delete over 20 Doctors appointments, birthdays, school events etc. and she has no other place she wrote them down. Is there any way to retrieve these, or stop it from happening in the future?

I spent most of yesterday rebuilding my library from a back up program. This has only happened with this latest update. How do I prevent it from happening?
I am also having to redownload all my music purchases from (well most) from the cloud, and that isn't working either.
It would be nice if someone from Apple would respond.

  • ITunes only shows old deleted iCal calendars

My iTunes only shows old deleted iCal calendars. How do I get it and iCal resynced?

That was useful help. I thought iSync was cremated 2 years ago with the advent of Tiger and was only used to sync phones and pdas. Further, I have searched 'elsewhere' and have not found any other solutions.
