Problem syncing Aperture to iPad

Has anyone else had a problem syncing Aperture to the iPad after upgrading to Mountain Lion?  I have attempted to sync selected albums from Aperture, but no new images were transferred.
Thanks -
Dudley

I agree, it appears to be screwed up. I've only been able to do limited tests, but it appears you CANNOT choose "Selected Albums, ...." WITHOUT specifying something other than 'no Events'. In other words, you can't simply select an album or smart collection, you MUST choose an event. And I've found even if I choose 'all events', I only get a small subset of the photos in the library included as part of the sync. What's an event, anyway? It's not part of Aperture's nomenclature.
This whole process looks pretty stupid to me, and I don't have time to spend with it right now. In the limited syncing I've done, I've always used the other way, i.e., NOT Aperture. Unless I'm totally missing the boat here, looks like I will have to continue doing that.

  • Problems syncing photos to iPad and AppleTV

    Hi there,
I have problems where only about half my photos ever show up on the Apple TV or get synced to my iPad.
Before you say, "Click Update Previews" I should point out that yes, I know this will fix it - but why should my Aperture library be swelled to a gigantic size just to sync the photos? I could understand this if I was shooting RAW all the time, but I am not. I am shooting JPEG - so why should I need to make another JPEG to erm .. be able to view a JPEG?! This seems like utter insanity to me.
What is curious is why SOME of the JPEG photos don't seem to need to build previews to be happily viewed on other devices. One theory I was working on was that Landscape orientation ones didn't need a preview, but portrait ones did - but even that seems to be invalidated by some of the photos that do sync. Can anyone offer any insight?
    Thanks,
    Tony

If you have edited your image in any way, you will need to render the edited image to be able to view it, since it will be different from the original.

Is your iPad recognized by iTunes when connected to your computer via USB?
If so, does Sync with this iPad over Wi-Fi remain selected under the Summary tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes?

  • Problem syncing photos to iPad from Aperture with a merged iPhoto/Aperture library

I recently 'upgraded' to us Aperture instead of iPhoto. One of the features of this was that I could continue to use the old iPhoto library in Aperture, and it automatically configures to Aperture settings - and it works great in Aperture.
The problem is that when I come to sync photos to my ipad, I have the drop down options for iPhoto and Aperture. The Aperture option shows zero photos, and the iPhoto option shows all the complete list of all my photo event/projects (from both my iPhoto days, and the more recent stuff in Aperture); but anything that I have created since moving to Aperture is greyed out and not accessible.
Any clues as to how I can sync the new photos as well as the old ones?
    Thanks

Have you enabled the sharing and creation of previews in Aperture? That is one big difference between Aperture and iPhoto - in iPhoto it is impossible to disable previews, but in Aperture you can create previews selectively, see: Working with Preview Images
Check Aperture's Preferences > Previews settings for "New Projects automatically create Previews".
Then select the images with missing previews in Aperture in the Browser and use the command "Photos > Update previews".
If that is not the problem, the iPod Photo Cache or the Aperture library may need repairing or rebuilding, see these documents on how to repair the Aperture Library:
Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder
First try, if a simple repair of the Aperture library will suffice, then delete the iPod photo cache folder. Make sure, that the backup of your Aperture library is current, before try any of this.

  • Problem syncing movies to iPad

For some reason I am unable to sync more than a certain number of movies to my iPad2 64GB  it appears that it for some reason arbitrarily limits me to 12 movies.
Any ideas as to why this would be the case?
But I can purchase movies from the iTunes store and it adds them with no problems, but then after transfering purchases to my mac, it will remove any of the new purchases and bring me back down to 12 movies.

I'm somewhat hesitant to suggest this - but have you tried removing all of the movies from the iPad and then try to sync them all back to the device? Unsync and then sync again?
You are using the same Apple ID on both devices and it is the same ID that all of the movies were purchased with - correct? You are signed into the same account on the iPad and the MBP? The new movies are not being purchased with a different account?
Your iPad isn't age restricted for the content on the movies is it? I don't know if you could even download them in the first place if it was -  but I'm just trying to think of anything that might be causing this to occur.

  • Problem syncing Aperture albums ("shifting")

I have an Aperture project of my boy's photos. Under it there are different albums, containing photos of him taken on different dates, and also a smart album of photos with a certain rating. So the structure is like this:
    Baby Photos
    - 20070420 First Outing
    - 20070421 Birthday party
    - Smart Album of favourites
I have set my Apple TV to sync only the smart album.
The problem is, whenever I add a new album to the project (after a photo shoot), Apple TV will be set to sync another album (usually the newly added album) instead of the smart album, just like its "shifted" by the newly added album.
Is this a bug or am I the only one having this problem? I have spent quite some time searching this forum but couldn't find a solution to this.
I have upgraded Aperture to 1.5.3 and the problem is still here.
    Many thanks.

I just realized this is happening to me both on my Apple TV and my iPhone. Did you ever find out anything more about this issue? I'm seeing exactly the same behavior.
Out of curiosity, do you make previews for all of your photos? I only make selected previews for some albums. Don't know if that's related or not...

  • Problems syncing movie to iPad

I purchased and downloaded a movie onto my MacBook Air, now it will not sync and put the movie on my iPad, says this computer is not authorized.  I've tried to restart both devices, same message.  Any advice?

It is the same Air I use for all my purchases, and I sync the iPad to it several times a week.  I've synced a gazillion other items -- songs, videos, movies -- with no problem.  Everything is logged into the same account, and I double-checked the computer to make sure that it was authorized.

  • Im having problem syncing in my ipad to the pc its not even connecting

Hey guys im not able to get my ipad to sync to my PC the battery is not charging it said..

    Hello Vegaskorpion,
It sounds like your iPad is not charging when plugged in.  I found an article with some steps that might help with this.  I recommend reviewing the steps in the sections titled "Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter" and "Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off" in the following article (the article refers to an iPhone, but the steps also apply to an iPad as well):

If your iPad is still not recognized in iTunes after it is charged, follow the steps in this article:

  • Problems syncing Aperture photos

    Hi,
I seem to be having some issues syncing my pictures from Aperturen to my AppleTV. In iTunes I can select the albums / Projects which I want to sync with my Apple TV, and iTunes is sending the individual pictures to my AppleTV.
Sadly on the AppleTV itself, some of my Albums / Projects don't appear. The pictures seem to be there though, but not the 'container'. I can sometimes fix it by renaming the Album and syncing it again, but sometimes that doesn't seem to work neither.
Anyone having the same issues, or knows a workaround for that ?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Stefaan

Yes, I'm having the identical problem. Did you ever find a fix? The only one I can think of is to create smart albums within each project, as Apple TV seems to recognize the smart album but not the project. But there has to be a better way.

  • Is anyone having problems syncing iPhoto to iPad 2 after iOS 7.0.3 update? when I click on photos tab, I get a circular dashed loading icon that is perpetually there. It never loads the library

When I click on photos tab, I get a circular dashed loading icon that is perpetually there. It never loads the library. i dont even see the iphoto content! thx for your help!

I am certain too that it is possibly the 7.0.3 update. Have you tried restoring from backup? I am uncertain that might work but its worth a try.
If that doesn't work I suggest that you give feedback to Apple directly. The more about this problem, the quicker it will get resolved.

  • Aperture 3 Syncing to iPhone/iPad Problem

I'm trying to sync my photos in Aperture (3.0.3) to my iPhone 3GS (iOS 4) and iPad:
I was able to sync projects, albums, faces, and places perfectly fine to my iPhone, but as of about a month ago, when I select Aperture as the source to sync photos in iTunes (9.2), it shows a very outdated version of my library and hasn't changed for over a month. I've tried rebuilding, and repairing the Aperture database, as well as repairing permissions, but nothing has changed in iTunes. I've also tried creating a new Aperture database, putting photos into that and syncing, but some photos don't sync (all standard JPEGs, and they've synced before so the photos aren't the issue). So far no update to iTunes or Aperture has fixed this.
I don't do anything special in Aperture other than import photos from a CF card, directly from my Canon 40D, iPhone, iPad, etc. I did originally import all my photos from iPhoto, but I had no problems syncing or anything like that. I think one of the Aperture updates messed up iTunes ability to recognize the current library as it's stuck on this old version.
    Help is greatly appreciated,
    atshef

I have been syncing from Aperture via iTunes to my iPad since I purchased it. It has had options such as: "Selected projects, albums, and faces and automatically include 'projects from the last 6 months'" and "include videos".
Apart from videos, everything has worked. I got all the albums I selected including the photos, and all the events from the past 6 months (which appear as a separate tab - events - in Photo viewer on the iPad). Video has never worked though, I never see any of the videos transferred - I do suspect the format in that case though, perhaps Aperture sharing doesn't convert the format, even though they work in iMovie.
However, yesterday, as I was syncing, I noticed iTunes say "deleting photos..." now all photos are gone, except one album - the "***" (5 star) one from Aperture. I have tried rebooting the iPad, restarting the Mac, checking other applications can see the thumbnails from Aperture, removing "Sync photos from Aperture" then re-enabling. And nothing. All I get is the one album and no events.
It has been working for months. I have not updated iTunes in the last few days, nothing I can tell has changed, however none of my albums are now being installed. There is zero feedback. It says it works, no errors, nothing.
    Any ideas?

  • Problems syncing iPad photos and Aperture

I think my iPod Photo database is corrupting for some reason as I keep getting intermittent problems syncing photos from Aperture across to my iPad.
Running Lion 10.7 on a Mac Mini with Aperture 3.1.3 and each time I get the error if I delete the iPod Photo folder it will do a full resync the next time I connect, but with over 5000 photos it takes some time.
Anyone had a similar problem or know why it might be doing it?
    Thanks

From your words "syncing with my old iMac" it appears that you are now syncing to a different computer. What might work for directly imported photos (emailed, CCK, screen shots) is to connect your iPad to your new computer and right click on the iPad in the left part of iTunes and select the backup option. When that is complete then you right click and select transfer purchases. Then let iTunes erase the Ipad and replace it with the contents of iTunes on the new computer and then restore from backup
Photos synced to the iPad are not included in the backup and those will be lost unless you can get them from your original computer. However, there may be some third-part computer programs that can get the synced photos off the iPad.

  • Problem with Aperture not syncing iPhoto albums to iPad

Want to sync a few choice old photo albums created in iPhoto to my iPad.    Since I am now running that old iPhoto library in Aperture I should be able to sync selected albums via iTunes, Aperture and USB.
I looked at iTune's photo sync screen and saw that iTunes still distinquishes between iPhoto and Aperture libraries, i.e. one needs to make a choice.
I selected Aperature in the "Sync Photos from" popup and got the following err message:
"Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications."
My iPhoto/Aperture libary easily opened again in Aperture but for the life of me I can not see a preference provision for previewing Aperture albums in anything other than iLife and iWork which was already enabled.
Perhaps Apple is a bit slow in upgrading the detail in their latest Aperture version or are simply screwing people who favor syncing well chosen albums on their iPad in lieu of using iCloud which would require a lot of extra redundant effort to recreate favorite albums so much more easily created in iPhoto/Aperature.

I was experiencing this exact same problem for days and none of the fixes I have found have worked for me, including the one listed here. Only un-installing Aperture allowed me to again sync my iPhoto albums individually again to my iPad2/iPhone4S. Even after re-generating the library for previews/thumbnails, as other posts have suggested to do in Aperture, I still could not see the option to select individual iPhoto Albums as it was greyed out in iTunes.
So here is the simple and odd fix that has just worked for me. When iTunes tells you: "Your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications." Do just the opposite. In Aperture Preferences under Preview, with the dropdown after Share Previews with iLife and iWork: select NEVER.
Now if when you open iTunes again, and your option to select individual folders is still greyed out (as happened to me on occastion clearly) do this. Uncheck Sync Photos from iPhoto, select Keep Photos or not depending on what you want and then quit iTunes and DON'T APPLY changes. When you restart iTunes, you should now be able to select individual iPhoto albums.
I realize this doesn't give you options with syncing Aperture Projects, but hey, hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

  • IPad photo syncinc problem from Aperture

    Hi,
I have a weird photo sync problem (Itunes 10.0.1, Aperture 3.0.3). Sometimes when I add a project to Aperture and an album under that project, I can't sync that to my ipad as Itunes doesn't see any pictures in the album.
My Aperture library is huge so I'm not syncinc all of it, just selected photos. When I open iTunes, plug iPad in and go to iPad photos page, the project and the album appear in the list but if I check either one of those, the number on the right showing the number of photos in the album/project, is zero and nothing gets synced.
Sometimes I've been able to fix this by restarting aperture and itunes. I've tried reprocessing previews (previews are 2560x2560) but it doesn't seem to help anymore.
I've sort of localised the problem to Aperture. When I quit aperture, an information window "updating information for sharing previews" and a progress bar apperars. If this takes only a couple of seconds, then iTunes doesn't seem to detect any changes I've made. Sometimes it takes from 30 seconds to a minute and usually after that everything works.
I tried to google this and others seem to have had similar problems but I didn't find a solution. Is there one?

  • Sync videos to iPad from Aperture with Videos on external HD

    Hi,
I have the a problem when trying to sync videos with my ipad through Aperture.
When I sync videos which are in the mediafolder on the macbook the videos are perfectly synced to my ipad.
But when I have my videos (and Foto Originals) moved to an external Harddisk the videos don't show up in my ipad (the fotos does).
Seems like one hasn't thought about that function inside aperture to be handled by the sync interface in itunes.
Thanks in advance for your domments and maybe a hint to solve the problem?
    Joe

Thanks for your quick response Frank,
this helps to understand the intention on how the applications are programmed, but this is really not very userfriendly How to handle Fotos and Videos if you don't have enough space on your macbook.
Do I have to put the whole mediafolder from aperture to an external disk. Than I don't have the benefit of having a smaller mediafolder on my macbook, without the originals, which I do want to have on an external drive.
Today we're not only talking about external Harddrives, but NAS and iCloud, so I guess this should be optimized then.
But of course this is at the address from apple then, or is there somehow a workaround for that problem??
Thanks fo any help out there
