Problem T530 (Vertical thin blue line) HELP!

Hello Folks,
I just bought my T530 in July/August. I have been loving it so far.
While I was working on my laptop this morning, a sudden thin blue pixel line showed up (left corner of my screen).
What should I do?  I have the regular insurance packet that came with it nothing extra...
I have never shipped back a laptop. How does this process work, and what are my next steps.
Thank you people.
I am pretty nervous about this issue. I am a student, and can't afford losing this laptop for a long long time.

after verifying your warranty, they'll likely step through some troubleshooting and problem confirmation steps. if your pc needs to go to depot for repairs, they'll dispatch a prepaid shipping box to you. i believe it's still overnight shipping both ways. you can also ask them if there's a carry-in center near you.
regards.

  • Vertical thin blue line on LCD

Is there an easy fix to get rid of this line on my screen? it's about 3 inches in from the left of the edge of the screen, running the full-length top-to-bottom. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

It seems there has been quite a number of bad runs on the 12" powerbook and ibook screens, my powerbook did'nt have one, but it does now and it is usually a defective lcd panel
you can find lots of them on ebay for about 40 bucks that were pulled from ibooks. I bought a screen with a line running horizontally about 2in from the bottom to replace my original screen which was shattered. New screens are about 400$ so a little line does'nt bother me as much as not having a computer. That being said, I have seen this problem out there , and it stays with the screen not the computer. Also note the commonly defective model is a Samsung LTN 121S04-A2C2 these were in some ibooks. The powerbook screens are usually Philips LP121X04-C2 and have an inverter cable that is two inches longer, making it dificult to find a replacement unless you do'nt mind cutting and splicing wires.

  • I've just downloaded software -now have a thin blue line on my screen? pls. help.

I have just downloaded some software...when my computer restarted, it now has a thin blue line on the screen.  What's happened?

A: is it in all screens or just Chrome (unlikely)?
    B: reset SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
C: Your LCD is highly likely NOT broken rather a signal feed hardware issue in the monitor cable that travels thru the hinge from the logic board.
D: make a screenshot and verify if the screenshot shows the same or not.
E: the LED backlighting is showing thru implying, of course, that the LCD feed for that vertical line is not being fed.
    Reset SMC and verify.
if same, you have either bad monitor cable or connection of same at junction with logic board.
At which point make appt. with Apple for diagnostic / service

  • Why do I have a thin blue line running down the screen?

There is a thin blue line running vertically down my imac screen a little to the right of the centre. It disappeared for a while - i think after I tapped a certain key - but then re-appeared and will not go away. What is it? How do I get rid of it? Mark

Sounds like a problem with the display. Contact your local Apple Store or AASP and make an appointment to have the display looked at. > Apple - Support - iMac - Service FAQ

  • A thin blue line on my iPhone 4S?

    Hi.
Today I woke up to see a thin blue line on my iPhone 4S screen.
I did not drop my phone, nor did I even charge it over night. I just left it on.
The blue line looks like this:
(I recreated the image, since it doesn't appear if I take a screenshot, meaning this is a screen problem.)
I have tried restarting my phone, but that hasn't helped. The line appears all the time, no matter if I'm in an app or looking at the home screen.
I'm not sure how this happened, as it just appeared all of a sudden, but I'm wondering if anyone knows a fix for this?
My warranty for my phone has run out, unfortunately. =/
    Thanks.

Did you also try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?
You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, and to rule out a software problem, setting it up as new device would be the next step:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If still no luck, the phone needs to be serviced, but since Apple does not offer to replace the screen for an iPhone 4s, you would have to pay the service fee to replace the whole device.

  • The Thin Blue Line? :-)

My sons 17" iMac has developed a problem, in that two thin blue lines have appeared from top to bottom on one side of the screen. has anyone else had this problem and is it D.I.Y curable or is it an Apple Repair job? Thanks in advance

Thanks for the update. The Intel iMac forums are here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=189
The Intel machines' hardware is so different from the G4 iMacs that blue lines could be due to a completely different reason.
We've all complained about how this forum is labeled. After all, all iMac variants since the first one are "flat-panel iMacs" in spite of very different processor type and technologies. Most of the posts here are in the wrong place--not your fault!

I scanned an old image using my Epson NX515 printer, used GIMP to make some minor repairs on the image and printed it out.  I noticed there were a number of evenly spaced thin blue lines across the image, approximately six of them. I opened & printed the image on my PC using PAINT.NET.  No lines appeared. I sent the image to my daughter. She printed it and found no lines. I printed the image using Seahorse on my Mac and the lines still appeared. I used basically the same print settings on Mac and PC.

did so now, only now I'm getting a slightly different error: could not find udevd no such file or directory. I checked both grub.cfg's and my mkinitcpio.conf and there's no listing for udevd ....which I've never heard of, so I assumed it was a typo?
For clarification: udev is in the mkinitcpio.
I'm not sure whether I yet have a good intuition for how you have your machine set up, but I suspect you need to include a cryptdevice flag to the kernel in your grub config. The file isn't found because the kernel doesn't know your root directory needs decrypting first.
My setup is an LVM over LUKS over LVM sandwich. To boot into my system, the grub.cfg contains the line:
    linux /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/mapper/cryptvg-root cryptdevice=/dev/mapper/vg-crypt:root rootfstype=ext4 pcie_aspm=force acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 ro
Now, most of those flags don't have anything to do with your problem, but note the cryptdevice. It tells the kernel it's dealing with an encrypted filesystem sitting in a logical volume called crypt on a volume group called vg. The bit after the colon tells the kernel to associate this encrypted filesystem with /dev/mapper/root.
As for how to fix your system, I'm afraid I still feel a bit fuzzy about how your LVM and encrypted layers relate to each other, whether you have LVM over LUKS, or LUKS over LVM, or something else. Was there a particular how-to that you followed?

  • Thin blue line on Iphone 5 screen

Was wondering if anybody has any ideas as to why I would have a very thin blue line, running about three quarters of the way up my screen, about half a cm from the left. It's only noticable when the screen has a white background. Otherwise the phone is in perfect working order and is just over a year old. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, SuePop.
The following Knowledge Base article gives us a few recommendations for troubleshooting issues with your display:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Particularly:
    Display image issues
This can include bright or dark pixels, lines in video, or sections of video missing.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Verify the issue is not content related, by viewing different content.
If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaperand slide the slider.
If the issue persists, there are recommendations at the end of the article as well:
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

I have a thin blue line appearing on my screen that wasn't there before - what is it and how do I get rid of it?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
They are probably dead pixels or a signal of damaged GPU. If you can, connect an external display and see if the issue appears here.
In both cases, I suggest you to take it to an Apple Store or reseller. It doesn't look as a software issue, and your display or GPU have to be replaced

  • HELP! my ipod has a thin blue line across the screen whenever i play videos

i got my ipod a day ago. i havent dropped it or anything and when i play a video there is a thin, blue, vertical line on my screen. is it broken or what!?

It could be a problem with the way the videos were encoded. Where did you get them from or did you encode them yourself.
If you encoded them yourself, what program did you use?

  • Vertical Blue Lines - Please help!!

I've got a G5 with 2 30" Cinema Screens. On my main screen there are often vertical blue lines that appear. I was told that this might be a graphics card issue and that I should unplug one of the screens. I've done that & if anything the blue lines are worse...
Having done a search I've found some archived questions but they don't have any solved answers. Is my screen totally bust & needing to go back to apple or can I change some settings here?

Could still very well be your video card. It probably has some bit addressing issues. Try swapping video cards with a friend or have the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store use a good video card to diagnose the problem. If the blue lines disappear, replace the video card.
If the blue lines still appear on your displays, then run Apple Hardware Test and check for any error codes. Write down any error codes and bring them to your local Apple Store. Either way, you are looking at a display replacement and/or repair.
