  • Problems with opening Adobe Reader 9 or pdf files

    Hi,
Can someone please help me resolve this problem?  I had no problem using Adobe Reader 8 but since removing Adobe Reader 8 and download the updated Adobe Reader 9, I cannot open any pdf files or the Adobe Reader 9 (on desktop) without receiving the following error message:
"Adobe Reader 9.3 has encountered a problem and needs to close".  I tried several times to download and reinstall Adobe Reader 9 without any success.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for coming back to me.  Remember when I've received the error message previously "Error 1327. Invalid Drive: E:\",  I've decided to try inserting my flash drive into the E drive (since I've downloaded the Adobe file previously from my flash drive to my desktop pc) and then try removing the Adobe Reader 9.3.4 and it works!!!!  I am now working with the earlier version ie. Adobe Reader 8 which works fine.  I would like to try again to download the Adobe 9.3.4 but have previously tried 3 times and failed.  What else can I try to do to download, install and run this latest version without experiencing the same problem over again? Thanks.

    Hi Memalyn
Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

  • Using Oracle "Import PDF" Extension in Open Office Draw to Edit pdf Files

I am a fairly new Mac user with OS X 10.6. For several months, I have been trying to find something which would edit pdf files better than Preview does (for example, the content of a text box in Preview can only be "center aligned"). Skim and FormulatePro were two options I tried that were improvements over Preview in many respects, but wouldn't let me paste an image onto my pdf (such as, for example, if I wanted to put my digital signature on a document).
Then, I "discovered" the Oracle PDF Import Extension which I had installed in Open Office months ago, but hadn't really used. By "discovered," I mean I read on somebody's blog that you could use Open Office Draw to edit pdf files and I thought, "Hey, I wonder if that would work with my setup." (Boy, do I feel stupid.)
I have just started using this functionality, but in just an hour or so of playing around, I have found that it has far exceeded my expectations and, even, my immediate needs. Besides giving you (a) all the control over text and text boxes that you would expect from, say, a word processing program and (b) allowing you to paste images onto your pdf, Open Office Draw also includes layers!
The layer function threw me off for a bit, because, at first, I kept finding that my attempts to edit the document resulted in grabbing the raster image and moving it "off" of the underlying text layer (a function, I will admit, that I think will be worth exploiting someday, but wasn't what I was looking for at the moment). Then, I discovered that you can "lock" the layer so as to prevent this annoying occurrence. To create your edits, simply create a new layer (call it "MyEdits" or whatever you want) and you're in business.
Anybody who has done anything more than drawn a couple of lines and boxes on a page has discovered that editing the overlapping objects can be a real pain - if not an outright impossibility. Separating these overlapping objects through the use of different layers solves the problem.
The only downside to the use of Open Office Draw as a pdf editing tool that I can see is that you must import the pdf, save your edits in odg format, and then export it to pdf when you're done. I know that we would all like to have the capability of doing everything I just described directly to the native document, but, hey, for all the functionality I have been searching the internet for weeks to find, I think it's a reasonable trade off.

    Try turning off protected mode.

  • How to link to a page inside a PDF file?

    PDF users,
I can link to a PDF file from a web page, for example, with the <a href> tag. Is there a way to link to somewhere inside the PDF file, for example to a page number or a heading title?
    Yours,
    Michael F

    Hi,
I lost track of this note but I need to revisit the nameddest option.  I can get the page option to work but would like to link to chapter headings to avoid having to adjust the page options whenever the page count changes.
I am using Acrobat XI and generate PDF bookmarks from Framemaker 12. The file opens with the bookmark panel to the left and content to the right. I don't see the Named Destination panel that you mentioned. On the left there are icons for page thumbnails, bookmarks, attachments, and signatures.
I display the bookmarks panel and adjust the content of the bookmark labels as needed. With the right click menu, I use Set Destination to adjust the part of the page that displays at the top of the panel.
Now could you tell me exactly how this nameddest option works?
For example, I have a PDF file with "2: Introduction": as the bookmark that opens to the first page of chapter 2, which is on page 21.  The link in the web page is:
    <p>For an introduction, refer to <a href="docs/93-0967-0.pdf" target="_blank">chapter 2</a>
What do I need to do to make the link go to that chapter?
    Yours,
    Michael F

When attempting to open a hyperlink to a PDF file on the web from a Microsoft WORD for Mac 2011 (14.3.9) document, Safari 7.0 instead displays the file as text?

    As seen in http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macword/has-the-word- 2011-for-mac-invisible-toolbars/018a3ab6-0570-4ad5-abf8-5b6427fdde3e?msgId=e111b f0a-0e32-4fa3-9536-f349dad8439d
    and it worked for me:
    1. Quit Word
    2. In the Finder's menu bar, select Go > Go to folder and type or paste: ~/Library/Preferences/
    3. Click on Go
    4. Locate the preference file com.microsoft.Word.plist, then Option-drag it to the desktop to create a backup copy
    5. Go to Applications/Utilities and open Terminal
    6. Paste the following bold command at the $ prompt (it's a single line):
defaults write com.microsoft.Word 14\\Toolbars\\Show_HIToolbar -boolean TRUE
    7. Press Return and then quit with Command Q
    8. Start Word and test. If the fix works, trash the backup file in the Desktop file. Otherwise, restore it.
In the original source the author also mentions the change in Word 2008

  • Problem in generating the Oracle report6i to PDF file.

    Hi guys,
I had encounter problem in generating the Oracle report6i to PDF file. The Amount column once the report is genrated to PDF it double the amount reflected in the PDF file report. See sample scenarios below:
Can anybody help me explain this issue how it really happens?
    Example:
    FROM ORACLE REPORTS6i :
    ITEM # PRODUCT AMOUNT
    1 PRINTER 5,000
    2 KEYBOARD 2,000
    TO PDF FILE :
    ITEM # PRODUCT AMOUNT
    1 PRINTER 10,000
    2 KEYBOARD 4,000
    Thank you.
    Lala

    Hi "LawlordsX",
I do understand the issue, something seems to have messed up the Shell Extensions on the 2 Lenovo laptops you talked about.
Could you please check if the 2 m/c(s) have an additional version of Office installed in parellal to Office 2007, say Office 2010 trial pre-installed on them. This can be verified via CONTROL PANEL > PROGRAMS AND FEATURES > Check for the versions of Office installed. If yes, please let me know the additional Office software version/type.
Also, could you be more specific about the bitage of the system, i.e. whether the Windows 7 m/c is 32-bit or 64-bit?
This can be checked from CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > Under "System" section check for "System Type".
If converting multiple files at a time to PDF is an issue, as an alternate you could use FILE > CREATE > BATCH CREATE MULTIPLE FILES to workaround the problem for the time being.
    Thanks!

  • Arrgh! Is anybody else having problems with the Adobe Acrobat open source approach to handling PDF files? I am getting as many as three crashes and full reboot per day and the delays are terribly frustrating.

Do I have a registry problem?
Every time I open a PDF file my local Adobe Acrobat (6.0) installation opens AND the file displays in Firefox (v. 4.0.1). When I close the PDF file it tells me other PDF files are open and asks if I'm sure I want to close Acrobat.
The process is messy and somewhere, before too long there is a memory error that causes the whole system to crash.
Is anybody else having this problem? Does anybody have any idea how to fix the conflict?

  • User can't open presentation saved as a PDF file

I sent a presentation saved as a PDF file and the user could not open it.  The error message received was that his computer needed Adobe Flash Player 16.0.  Despite installing it, he still gets the same error message.

Problem was solved by doing another installation of flash and rebooting.

  • Can´t open, rename, copy or delete PDF file

I have got a problem opening, renaming, moving, copying and even deleting a PDF file with a very long file name. It does not upload either, so I cannot send it to Adobe via the Support form.
I have now downloaded a PDF repair application, but I get the following error: "The above file name is invalid". It seems the file is corrupted or damaged. I only managed to open it once, after which it stopped working.
My OS is XP. I use Adobe Reader to open PDF files.
Can someone tell me how to deal with this file? Thanks.

You do not need Reader to change the name of a file. If you cannot change the name of a file in Windows XP, then you have major problems that have nothing to do with Reader. You have at a minimum file directory damage, you could have a virus. Reboot your computer, with no applications open try to change the name of the file using Windows' Explorer app.

  • Duplicated URLs inside our PDF files ?

    Forum,
We are using Adobe Acrobat for creating plenty of materials and documentations which contains quite many links, These links are internal links which point/redirect to other sections on the exact same PDF file itself, Or external links which point/redirect to other PDF files and/or locations.
Our users are encountering an issue which is that whenever they open any PDF file in their Internet Explorer browsers and clicking on any of the links, Nothing works at all. Because, The URL which is shown in the address bar is duplicated, So, Obviously it will not open anything.
For example: A user opens a PDF document in the IE browser, the document has a link which points to: (http://SiteURL/Docs/File1.pdf), If the user clicked on that link, The user will be redirected to: http://SiteURL/Docs/File1.pdfhttp://SiteURL/Docs/File1.pdf
How this problem can be fixed ?

I am not the one who is creating these PDF files, But our skilled content owners are doing that and they do follow official guidelines such as: Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Create a link and the like

  • Problems with showing all the text in pdf file

    Hi All,
I have this problem. When I upload a pdf file to our company website as a link and then when I open it from the link, most of the text in the file is like symbols. The pdf file is a brochure and is exported from CorelDraw. The brochure consists of photos and text. For me is very important t solve the problem, because most of our customers use Mozilla firefox and they must be able to see everything on the brochure.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best wishes,
    Martina

hello again, yes the development version of the pdf viewer addon is a early snapshot of what will go into future firefox versions. so when the rendering issue isn't apparent in the dev version of the pdf viewer, this means that no bug has to be filed and the fix is already on its way to get into one of the next firefox updates.
i cannot give you an exact date on when your issue will be going to be solved in firefox, because without an actual pdf sample its not possible to know which bug has caused your issue. however according to the pdf.js developers a fix that is already present in the current developer version will at least make it into firefox 29 (scheduled for the end of april).
you could test yourself if the issue is still present in firefox 28 (beta) or firefox 29 (aurora): https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/

  • Image inside of PDF file?

I am creating a .bmp file in Photoshop and inserting it into a word document. I then save that image as a .pdf. When viewing pdf and hovering your cursor over the image inside the .pdf, the name of the image file appears(like a text tool tip). Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks

PDF Optimizer - Perhaps not available in Standard.
Look for it under the 'Advanced' menu drop-down.
When Acrobat supported file formats are brought into PDF with Acrobat (PDFMaker) many have configuration options associated with their "Convert to PDF".
A supported graphics file format, by itself or if in an authoring file (FM, DOC, etc.) will be 'touched' by these.
Open Acrobat's Preferences. Select the Category "Convert To PDF".  Scroll down the center pane's listing of  file formats. Locate and select PNG. Click the 'Edit' button. Some configuration options for compression and color management are provided. You could play with these.
    HOWEVER -
The Word to PDF process would have to be via PDFMaker (Convert... from the Acrobat Bar) and *not* via Save As PDF-XPS.  The MS Office routine does not provide the functionality described above for Acrobat. The Office process is completely separate from anything "Adobe" or "Acrobat".
Also, something described often by Bill@VT -- Word, particular 2007, 2010 seems to do some 'odd' things to graphics in a Word file that is going to anything other than a piece of paper.
Some folks seem to get satisfactory behavior by use of EPS.
Also, it may be worth playing with a JPEG of the logo.
    About the PDF.
From what you describe it seems that you have a web link, in the PDF, to the stand alone PNG. This would permit separate download of the PNG.
I suspect that Acrobat Standard 9.x does not provide the tool set available in Pro or Pro Extended. So, you'd not be able to edit/delete the web link (or link) in the PDF.
Perhaps, back in Word you have a 'Hyperlink' present that can be edited/removed?
Also, in Word, try an "import" - browse to file - select - make it an integral part of the Word file. Then produce the PDF.
Fundamentally, the PDF reflects the content mastered in the Word file. The Office Save As PDF-XPS or the Adobe PDFMaker merely process this out with whatever configuration option settings each provides.
    Be well...
