Plenty of articles on how to fix it. Just Google "fix error 0xc0000098" - there's also a youtube video. If you are in luck then:
Check if you are able to get the recovery options by pressing the key F8 on your computer.
a. Restart your computer if it is powered on.
b. Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
c. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
From the Advanced Boot options, check if you can get the System Recovery or repair option. This would take you to Windows recovery options. If you can get to the recovery options, you can rebuild BDC. Follow the below article:

  • Problems with starting Windows after Boot Camp was installed on a Win-PC

    Hi,
i have a very interesting problem for the MacComunity (haha -.-). The problem is: after I have installed Boot Camp from my Snow Leopard DVD on my Windows PC (not my iMac); I can not start the system. In the Boot Camp System where i can set the system to start with, there was only the Boot Camp System available (not Vista). However, the system installs some Vista-Updates and some Updates from Apple Software Update (iTunes 9.2, Quicktime 7, Safari 5, Airport 5, Boot Camp 3.1) on my PC.
Everything was all right but after I have restarted the System nothing happend. the System freezed when the boot-Screen (Intel Logo) appears. The Systemkeyboard was not detected. It only detects a n external apple Keyboard. There are some reactions when I press the keys, but the Monitory is frozen, anyway. What can I do?

Sounds like a lesson in there: don't wait to put OS X on an external drive that is usually off line.
Rush to a store or on-line and get a UPS of the 1500VA sort (APC RS would be nice, or SMART UPS 1000VA).
The directory of the drives could be corrupt.
I have all my equipment, modem, routers, the works, but we had a bad storm and one port on the router/modem is out (the one I used, the modem seems to be okay) and I am worried that the UPS's line filter for DSL in is also 'compromised.'
Storms and power outages can wRECK or cuase havoc.
It sounds like you need to map out bad sectors maybe (zero all in Disk Utility) perhaps. The directory, volume blocks, or even journal file, got scrambled. However, because no test can find it means - to me - it could be the "non user partitions" rather than OS X partition etc. Hence, zero the drive or just reformat it in full.
Why have you not ever with these outages, just continued to live w/o one? I wouldn't just shutdown, I would unplug if a storm approaches.
PS: SMC Reset button is under drive bay #4. Give it a 5-10 seconds depress.

  • Windows XP system boot failure with \Boot\BCD status 0xc000000f

I have a ThinkCenter M52 purchased secondhand from my employer. It was originally loaded with Vista but was upgraded to Windows XP before I got it. (The recovery partition on the HDD is still Vista.) For the 15 months since I bought I have had no problems. I had to reboot earlier this week because of a software upgrade and now I get:
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status 0xc000000f
An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data
From Google searches this is a Vista error, somehow the XP configuration has been lost. I have tried using a partition manager, BOOTCFG from an XP install disc, BartPE. I have run out of ideas, how do I fix this?

Did you check your HDD for errors?Try using Lenovo's hard drive quick test

  • Windows 7 not booting. Says File:\Boot\BCD error

HI, I have purchased a HP Pavilion DMZ1 XL303AV laptop. I had got it serviced from a HP service centre as it had suffered water spillage. The service centre replaced the entire motherboard. Now, the laptop suddenly stopped working. It gives an error message: File : \Boot\BCD; Status 0xc00000e9 ; Info: AN unexpected I/O error has occured. It says if you receive this error, please contact hardware manufacturer.
I donot have a  Recovery CD for this model. HP did not provide. I donot remember creating a recovery USB drive for this (This model has no CD/DVD drive).
The machine is not working . Please help

Hi SyedAR, I am sorry to hear that you are getting this error on your computer. I would strongly suggest that you contact HP Total care at 1-800-474-6836 or at this link if the number is outside your calling area.  http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html      From what I can see from this error, you are going to need the recovery disks for the Windows operating system and you can get them from HP Total care.  They will also be able to walk your through repairing your computer once you have the disks.
    Thank you for your time.

  • File ntoskrnl.exe status: 0xc0000098

SCCM 2012 R2 CU2 Single Primary Site Server
Trying to deploy Windows Server 2008 R2 to Dell server.
    File ntoskrnl.exe status: 0xc0000098
Any suggestions on troubleshooting. I think the following action plan for now:
0xc000098 translates to Status_File_Invalid. The volume for a file has been externally altered such that the opened file is no longer valid. Seems like the machine is unable to locate the hard disk. Can you deploy Windows Server
    2012 image?
    1. Check the boot options in BIOS and ensure it is correct
    2. Run hard drive diagnostics
    3. Run Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool
    4. Boot into safe mode with command prompt and type dispart to check if HD is being detected.

  • Auto Start Windows File Services on Boot

I am trying to figure out how to set a service (specifically Windows File Sharing) to startup automatically on boot. I know when you first set up the server the setup assistant gives you the option to designate which services to start automatically but I cannot figure out how to do this after the fact. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Mac OS X Server 10.4.11

Most services are enabled/disabled using the Server Admin app. The service named "Windows" allows you to configure and enable Windows file sharing. Once the service is enabled it will start after a reboot. Use Workgroup Manager to configure Windows shares.
Server Admin and Workgroup Manager can be found in the /Applications/Server/ directory on your server. To make changes from a client machine you will need to install the server admin tools from the server cd's or by downloading them from apple.
    Hope that helps.

  • Help! How to start windows in boot camp?

I have read several posts on this but I still cannot seem to get it started. I recently bought a macbook with bootcamp set up with windows xp. I had vmware fusion on my computer to use windows but I uninstalled it because I cannot use it for the purpose of windows that I need. Now, I do not know how to start windows on my computer. I cannot use a virtual machine because my exam software that I use for school will not start up when using a virtual machine.
I restart my computer and hold down the option key and the only hard drive that shows up is the Mac HD. The boot camp drive does not show up. So, if I cannot start windows that way...is there any other way???
    THANKS!

I cannot use a virtual machine because my exam software that I use for school will not start up when using a virtual machine.
    It requires DirectX 9? Huh?
I restart my computer and hold down the option key and the only hard drive that shows up is the Mac HD.
That sounds like your computer came with VM Fusion, and was not set up with boot camp. Please prove me wrong.
First, how many disk icons are on your Mac OS desktop? Is there just the Macintosh HD icon, or is there another disk icon labelled, say, "Untitled" or "Boot Camp".
Second, open /Applications/Disk Utility. Select your hard drive (not the Macintosh HD volume, but the actual hard drive, just above the Macintosh HD volume). Then click the "partition tab". How many partitions do you have. Does it show one HFS+ Journaled volume, or more than one partition and of what types.
Third, if you did see a second disk icon in step one, select it and hit CMD-I. What is its used and free space? Open it in Finder: is there a boot.ini file? A Windows folder?
Fourth--I should have thought of this first, sorry--some MacBooks have a bug that Option doesn't let you select an OS. So open Apple > System Preferences > Startup Disk and see if there is a Windows there for you to select. If so, select it and "reboot now" to boot into Windows. To boot back into Mac OS, you can either use the option key, or use the boot camp system tray icon to select Mac OS as your startup disk.
Finally, did your computer come with a Windows XP CD?

  • How to start Windows file chooser?

I don't mean the AWT file chooser FileDialog.
I have seen a Java application use the new Windows file chooser which is used in Windows 2000 and Windows XP. On the left side it has a large bar.
How can I start that new Windows file chooser?

    Hello, my name is Silvia.
I'd like to know how to hide that large bar on the left side in the file chooser (jdk 1.4.x).
My problem is about truncated names like 'My Document' (it is shown as 'My Docum...') or 'My Network Place' (it is shown as 'My Networ...').
Should I extend the JFileChooser class? What is the name of 'the large bar on the left side in the file chooser'?
    Thank you very much, Silvia.

  • Problems in starting windows using qemu-kvm from arch

    Hello,
I am facing problems in launching windows XP & 7 using qemu-kvm / qemu from arch. I have arch 2010.05 installed (kernel 2.6.33.4) which has kvm.ko, intel & amd modules. System is Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz. Windows XP is installed on partition 0 (real) and i am trying to start windows from that real partition using qemu-kvm.
I installed qemu-kvm using pacman -S qemu-kvm. I am running modprobe kvm and modprobe kvm-intel. Also, i have added username to kvm group.
    Command -
qemu-kvm /dev/sda - I have grub menu.lst which gives me list and i am selecting windows to boot but windows does not start. I can see startup but then fails.
qemu-kvm /dev/sda1 - sda1 has windows. With this qemu-kvm just hangs at Booting from Hard-disk...
qemu-kvm -no-kvm /dev/sda - Selecting windows but this time get Windows XP activation error however i can boot same windows XP directly without any error.
For Windows 7 - I have another HDD with Windows 7 installed on partition 0 and Arch. Everytime when i try to start Windows 7 using qemu-kvm (with kvm or without kvm) it gives blue screen with STOP: 0x... If i start Windows 7 directly it works fine.
Also, i downloaded kernel 2.6.35 and built with KVM but still facing same problems. I also tried with qemu.
Can anyone help me in resolving this issue? I want to qemu-kvm Windows from real partition. Let me know if it is not possible.
Am i missing any installation/configuration steps?
I searched on google and on arch forum/wiki but was not able to resolve this issue. Let me know if you need more details.
    Thank you,
    Satish.

Do i need to create two hardware profiles in Windows or Linux?
the hardware profiles are only needed for windows , linux guest doesn't need it (unless you have compiled your own kernel without more then 1 HDD controller..  specifically for the guest)
satishk wrote:1. Can i run qemu-kvm from linux kernel with only command support. No desktop environment installed (X11)? If yes, what is the procedure?
    qemu-KVM uses SDL, NOT X11 .
added : SDL can be installed seperately, it doesn't require X11 .
you can run qemu-kvm without SDL by using a special startup parameter, -nodisplay
you have to connect with a serial connection to get to the console of the VM.
satishk wrote:2. If i restart/shutdown from quest OS that is windows in my case, is it possible to restart/shutdown the complete system (i.e. host OS
    too)?
you can do that by using a bash script to start the VM, that script can also be used to stop the host.
satishk wrote:3. Whether Windows would be able to detect USB drivers and other devices by default or i need to do anything special in qemu-kvm?
USB devices are normally detected, although you have to test how well they work.
You may have to use udev rules to prevent the host from using those devices, they can't be used by both host and guest at the same time.
Network cards will not be detected, but you can link a physical network device with qemu-kvm virtual network devices.
search for qemu documentation, it also applies to qemu-kvm.

    Hi Ganesh,
this error message tells you that there is no user in your active directory that has the userPrincipalName xxxx.
    The SSO22KerbMapModule works as follows.
    1. It receives a SAP Logon Ticket from the WebDAV request.
    2. If valid the SAP username is extracted. In your case the SAP username is xxxx.
    3. It then searches for a user in AD. It does so using the attribute in the ini-file that has been specified to contain the SAP username. In your case the SAP username should be identical with the userPrincipalName.
So you have to make sure that the portal user id (j_user) is mapped to the same AD user attribute  that is specified in the ini-file .
    Best regards,
    Andre

  • Starting Windows with Boot Camp

Forgive my ignorance, I'm new to this. I think this is a simple question. I installed Boot Camp, and when I'm in Windows there's an icon at the bottom that I can click to switch to Mac. But when I'm in Mac how do I switch to Windows? There's nothing on the desktop.

To use Windows in boot-camp you need to go into *System Preferences* and choose *Startup Disk* Choose your Windows partition and click restart. The Mac has to reboot to get to windows.

I tried with the Windows Ultimate Vista x86, but occurs the same.
Please, what can I do to install the Windows in my Macbook Air?
    Thanks a lot!

No, I did not get a solve. Actually, my problem worsened. I tried it again, but this time the computer wouldn´t detect my alu keyboard, hence I couldn´t select a drive to tell the bloody thing where to boot from. That is weird, because at the time I opened this thread it did work. I actually had to borrow a wired keyboard so I could hit alt and get it to work.
At the moment I am not so keen on trying it again......
