Problem to update my quicktime player

when I start the update process software arrives at a certain point that the computer looks for the file QuickTime.msi, but can not find it. I tried several times, including via download from Apple's Web site but the same thing happens. What can I do?

software arrives at a certain point that the computer looks for the file QuickTime.msi, but can not find it.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we need to hunt down a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing QuickTime again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Problems with update to Flash Player 10

I was asked to update Flash Player.  I went ahead but got an iexplore.exe - application error which reads:
The instruction at "0x07770068" referenced memory at "0x07770068".  The memory could not be "written".
I have followed the uninstall instructions to get rid of any residual.  I then tried again with similar errors but different referenced memory.
I cannot find anything on the website to help.
    Ideas please.  :-)

Hi, Well it appears that IE could not execute the request for some reason. A quick search many users had with your same
problem was attributed to third party Toolbars and removing them solved their problem. Some said a possible virus/spyware and then ran scans that Microsoft have available free.
I agree with the Toolbars, as they can prevent a FP uninstall and install, so I would remove them at least until after FP is installed.  The following Adobe trouble shooting site, check all that is listed there since most of the problems are covered.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html
There is something preventing your browser (IE) from either uninstalling or installing FP.
Hopefully by carefully going over the trouble shooting article, you will find it.

  • Problems when updating form quicktime version 5 to 7 with longman diction

    Hi,
as a new user I have a question.
I installed the CD-ROM of longman contemporary english on my PC (Windows XP). It also installed quicktime version 5.
It worked fine, until I updated quicktime to version 7.1.3 Since then it says:
"The Quicktime Plug-in requires the QuickTime System extention version 5 or later"
Pressing Ok in the messagebox gives the following message
"This document cannot be displayed unless you install the Personal Security Manager (PSM)"
Trying to find a solution on the quicktime website or on the longman website did not provide me with an answer.
Can anybody of you help me with this problem?

It seems I am not the only one having trouble to get to iTunes 9.2.
All different ways I tried to update, download etc. always fail at the end.
Either the process tells me that it can't find the right quicktime.msi or that the old version of Quicktime can't be deleted.
    I am running iTunes 9.0.3.15 and Quicktime 7.6.5(518.40)/ (1327.80).
Same message already came up when I tried to get to 9.1.x, but I did care, since OS/4 wasn't out yet.
Worse of all my iPhone (3G) was connected and went back to DEFAULT/RESTORE and tells me now that I need 9.2 to have it work. So it is not working at the moment!!!

  • Having problem with updating latest Flash Player

i have installed the latest adobe flash player from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ but it doesnt work, and the link that google gave to me isnt working either
it's make me cant open some websites like google, facebook, and youtube. when i click "remind me later", it's still forcing me to download it

i've tried firefox and IE and same problem happened
I should have looked closer the first time.
Wanna know why you're seeing this?
THERE IS NO SUCH THING as Flash Player Pro. Not from Adobe. Never has been.
The reason you see it in EVERY browser is that your OS is infected with Adware.

  • Quicktime Movies Causes UI To Lock Up (Safari & Quicktime Player)

When a page in Safari has an embedded Quicktime Movie, it causes my computer to lockup. It will not respond to mouse clicks or keyboard input. The whole UI just locks up. Same with opening movies in Quicktime Player. I can SSH into the box, and when I run "top", I don't see anything pegging the CPU. The biggest problem is, Safari and Quicktime Player don't "crash", so no crash report is generated, and I have nothing to reference. I can issue a "sudo reboot" and the machine will restart.
If I set Safari to run in Rosetta, I experience no problems. Same with the Quicktime Player. However, Firefox work perfectly displaying Quicktime Movies.
I have the most current firmware and system updates. The problem is reproducible with a fresh user account, as well as with a clean system install. I even went to the trouble of zeroing the drive, and reinstalling a fresh copy of the OS. I tested pre updates, and post updates, and it is reproducable across all instances. This was all done in front of a Genius at the Apple Store.
    He was stumped...

I'm not a QuickTime engineer but I noticed that the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin first appeared in Tiger and version 7. It caused me some grief when using the Safari Activity window to find source URL's for QuickTime files in pages. Removing it allowed the URL to appear in the Activity window.
Now most pages use javascript (.js) files to display QuickTimme files so they don't appear in the Activity window.
I beleive that the plug-in is used by Dashboard Widgets (also html files) to do some kind of "voodoo" similar to the plug-in architecture of Web browsers.
I've just applied at the La Cantera Apple Store for a job. Is that where you "stumped the genius"?

  • Quicktime Player in Snow Leopard cannot download Apple HD Trailers

    Hi!
I've had this same problem since couple of months ago I bought this MBP 17". I cannot watch the movie trailers from Apple. They download normally the first 45seconds (1/4 movie) or so, but then it completely stalls. The download rate drops dramatically. What can I do?
I've got 10.6.2 and all latest updates. Quicktime player is 10.0 (90.3.1). I can watch the same trailers with Quicktime on Windows. Also, curl is able to download the files easily. So, no problems in my network or the servers that I'm connecting to. Originally I thought that it might be a problem in the servers and I just figure that I'd try another day. Here is example with curl:
    $ curl -A "QuickTime/7.6.2" -O http://www.apple.com/movies/fox/avatar/avatar2009aug0820a-tsr_h1080p.mov
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
    100 166M 100 166M 0 0 1101k 0 0:02:34 0:02:34 --:--:-- 1245k
So, as you can see, it comes with nice 1Mb/s speed all the way. However, opening the same URL in Quicktime player only manages to load about 1/4 the file in the same time because it first starts with over 1Mb/s speed but then drops to about 150kb/s according to iStat. Basically I cannot watch any of the trailers.
So, the problem is definitely in the Quicktime player in Snow Leopard. Can't find anything with Google for this. Please, does anybody know how to get Quicktime Player to download correctly? Thanks in advance to all hints!

    Anybody any ideas?
Do you have access to a site having progressively playing/caching HD video files that play in the browser? It might be interesting to see if the problem was with the ISP. I recently switched to 25 mbps FIOS because my broadband ISP had thousands of correctable errors/second every time it rained and the ground became soaked. (Appears they had underground cable problems and were slow to update to above ground lines.) Finally, I just gave up and switched providers. In any case, in the test I previously ran, the playback data rate for the HD file as it played during cache downloading was in 8-9 mbps range.

  • "Loading. . .", then "Switching. . ." when I open QuickTime Player

I just installed updates on QuickTime Player 7. I don't know if this is a problem, but when I open QuickTime, it reads "Loading. . ." then "Switching. . ." and then seems to freeze on the "Switching. . ." screen instead of going to the QuickTime page that has links to videos that can be downloaded. Also, if I go to File > Open Recent>, it does not show recently viewed files. Is there a problem with this software? If so, please give advice to troubleshoot.
    Thanks,
    Dave

The same thing is happening to me. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it doesn't work. I'm not concerned about recently viewed, but am about Quicktime minimizing after "Switching..." and isn't allowing me to go to it's home window. Anyone know how to solve this problem?

  • Is there any ways to stop Quicktime player from occupying audio hardware?

Hi, my PC system is Window XP Pro SP2, HP xw8400 Workstation w/ 2G Ram. And the PC has a Digidesign Pro Tools HD 1 audio system installed.
My problem is that after Quicktime player lauches, it will occupy the Pro Tools HD's hardware. And if I want to start Pro Tools software, "digidesign hardware is in use by another application." warning will occur and Pro Tools software will then quit. BTW, Digidesign's audio driver is not multi-clients compatible.
I have set Quicktime player's audio playback device to PC motherboard's audio device, and system's audio device is also motherboard's audio device, I even have checked the "use default device only" option. I can't understand why Quicktime player still occupies Digidesign's hardware, even it plays back audio through motherboard's audio device.
Though I can quite Quicktime player before lauching Pro Tools software, I still feel it's annoying and inconvenient, and want to know some ways to solve this problem.
Anyone can help? Thanks in advance. I have asked for help in Digidesign's offcial forum, no response.
BTW, the Quicktime player version on my system is 7.6.5, and each time Quicktime player launches, the sample rate led on the Digidesign's audio interface will flash, indicating that QT player is accessing Digidesign's hardware.

  • AAC Encoder Broken After Update to Quicktime 7.6

    I have iTunes 7.3.1.3 and Quicktime 7.3.1.70.
After updating Quicktime to 7.60.92.0 every thing seemed fine. However, trying to import songs using the AAC encoder causes an error: "The current encoder settings for bit rate and sample rate are not valid for this file".
I can import songs using the other encoders just fine; it's just the AAC encoder that doesn't work. In fact, converting any existing library tracks with the AAC encoder causes this error - not just new new tracks.
After a little web searching I found others with the same problem after updating to Quicktime 7.6.
So I uninstalled Quicktime 7.6 and reinstalled Quicktime 7.3. Problem solved.
Anyone else have this issue, especially updating to Quicktime 7.6 only with an earlier version of iTunes?
I have never had an issue updating Quicktime separately from iTunes before.
At this time I do not want the aggravation of updating iTunes too.

Does it have to do with the fact that I installed quicktime 7 when I already had the 10.6.3 update?
Yes. Install the update again or this software.

This problem is same as reported here and hasn't been solved:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1370493&tstart=1397
I have seen this problem appearing on Windows 2000, XP SP2 and XP SP3 with all QuickTime 7 versions (can't tell about iTunes since I don't use it), it didn't bother me because I have no use for QT/MOV myself.
    but.
I have just installed your latest QT Player 7.60.92 and it craps out with the same error whenever I want to open .mov files.
And I have downloaded few trailers ranging from small resolution up to highest "HD" resolution from your own Apple website to make sure it is not some encoding compatibility issue.
I know it is a bug in QT Player itself, so don't tell me please that "my QT got fragmented" or such BS (like the replies suggested in the other thread) or ask about any QT alternative corrupting "official" QT Player since I have no such thing. I am trying to make it work on my mother's computer with freshly installed WinXP (prior updated up to latest patches), machine has standard 32bit intel single core CPU (2.8GHz, 2GB of RDRAM).
I am really sorry I bought her camera that take those stupid .mov QT videos.

Yes, same as in the other thread from year ago, the QT/.mov files play fine in the browsers (I have just check on IE7, Firefox, K-Meleon).
    Message was edited by: -888-

Look, I had it running _few times_ too until it crapped out and gives the error since (on my own other computers - which I don't care since I have no use for any QT/.mov myself, but I repeat from post 1: I need it working on my Mother's comp).
And talking about 'bad drivers' - yes, I know that the drivers are sometimes at fault and bad drivers can make entire windoze pc unstable or crash; but how can you suggest this as a cause in this case when I'm telling you that the same error appears on completely different machines? And wouldn't this error appear from begining, from very first use of QT Player if it were bad drivers? Sure it would if it was faulty driver, but since it didn't that's not the case obviously.
Another pointer that it is NOT drivers related problem is that all other audio-video programs work fine, without errors and problem-free on the same machines, including playback of some of the .mov files with Media Player Classic or VLC - while they crap out with QT Player. If it was any of the drivers for audio or video, directx acceleration, etc - the faulty driver(s) should and would affect other programs as well. Yet all of them work fine and as I said - some even play QT files too (the ones capable of).
    /edit:
Just to test it I "caved in" and I have installed entire iTunes 8.0 garbage (as suggested by foobula earlier) since I couldn't get just QTPlayer part of it to install separately, and what do you know:
LO & BEHOLD! same .mov files play fine with QT7, no errors, no problem! (I have opened/closed same .mov files many times).
Then I uninstalled iTunes and all of its junk,
removed any traces of it (because it left out - in a Microsft style - plenty of garbage in registry, user appdata folder etc),
    rebooted,
installed the "standalone" QT Player 7.60
and hello Apple my darling! - same error is back after just 2 playbacks of very same .mov files!
(I used Apple's own .mov trailers for testing just to make sure I have "right" quicktime files:
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_1080p.mov
    and
    http://movies.apple.com/movies/weinstein/inglouriousbasterds/inglouriousbasterds -tlr2_480p.mov
    - and I repeat: both played once each fine (haven't play till the end though, but I'm sure that doesn't matter since the problem appears from the start)
What better proof you need that the problem is only with QT Player in a "standalone edition" (or whatever Apple calls it) and not with any drivers etc?
As previously, both play fine when links opened in a browsers (so the QuickTime whatever-components responsible for audio and video rendering WORK FINE and its not any "bad drivers" problems, it is just QT Player application's problem)
Again: (I hate to repeat myself)
*I don't want any itunes or other junk,*
*I just want .mov files to open with quicktime player - no more or less.*
