Problem trying to clue non contiguous audio regions

I'm trying to glue together non contiguous audio regions after cutting up loop.
I know I should get a dialogue box telling me that logic will create a new region, but this is not happening and it wont let me glue the region together, is there an option or something to turn this function on?
any help would be great thanks

your problem is most likely that you're trying to do this with apple loops, not normal audio files. you can't use these functions with apple loops, along with others such as fade in/out and crossfade. you'll have to export the selection to a new audio file, or bounce it.

  • Merge audio regions does WHAT exactly??

Umm.. So, I select a bunch of audio regions that sound fine.. I hit "=" and click "create" to the non-contiguous audio regions require the creation of a new audio file...
I am presented with an audio part that is distorted... How is this happening, I don't recall this being the way things are suppose to go (once again, HA HA).
    So this is the before:
    and this is the after:
And it sounds distorted, so something is actually happening to my audio during the mixdown. Is this still related to my corrupted file, or am I missing a checked feature in preferences that says "ruin and distort audio when merging regions" ?
So, if I select my regions and copy them and paste them into a new song, their lengths & fade areas are all messed up.. And if I mix down, they are distorted and all messed up...
    AAAA!!!!
I guess I need to turn off plugins set my 1-2 to 0db and bounce everything..
    Thank you.

if you merge stereo files on a mono track it it sums the two channels into a mono file. Set the track to stereo and the problem should go away.

  • MOVING AUDIO REGIONS PROBLEM! HELP!

    SO, I recorded a 3 piece band live...great,
when i was recording guitar overdubs, i dragged the audio regions over to make room for a guitar intro, but i didn't select all the other overdubs...oops.
after recording the intro at that location, i found that some of the other overdubs weren't lined up!!!
Is there a way to snap regions back to where they were recorded relative to other regions!
**NOT move region to original record position. that doesn't help because the original record positions are different for different overdubs. I tried dragging them back manually, but that takes forever, and i'm afraid there will be phase issues if it's not exact where it was tracked. please help.

Well, I tried the undo list which I haven´t used before. Mainly because I never make mistakes.
I admit I couldn´t get it do it exactly the way that would be useful for you. It´s not like actions in Soundtrack Pro. The undo list gets slightly confused if you try to undo one action in the middle of many. I actually get warnings about messed up time continuums and other sci-fi like messages...
The event list thing is really handy. If you open a previous version of your song where the regions are where they´re supposed to be you can select them. Open the event list. There you´ll see where they all start.
Make a mental note of where the first or topmost region begins (or double click and copy the info). Switch to song 2. Select the relevant regions. Move all these regions to the same start as in song 1.
(Or you can do it one region at a time, hence the suggestion to have two edit lists open simultanously. Time consuming, but possibly succesful.)
    Hope this helped!

  • Very weird problem - audio regions referencing elsewhere

    Hi there,
One of my projects is behaving VERY weirdly.
For example, some of my drum regions, in the middle of playing, suddenly click, drop out, and then play flute!
This is happening to a few of my audio regions. It seems to have something with the fade files, because when I drag the region out or in it sorts the problem out but when I load the project again the problem is back. Also, all of my fades just don't work and whenever I reload the project I have to redo all of the fades?!
    Any ideas??

It's odd that it only does this going from a video to an Audible.com audio book (Audible.com has it's own DRM which somehow integrates with iTunes, otherwise you have to use Audible's own software to load the audio books. I use iTunes for everything). Going from video to music, and audio podcast or another video seems to work okay. That's why I wondered if it was more of a bug than a physical problem.
In any event, the store I bought it at has a 30-day no-questions return policy. I've got the 30-day point marked on my calendar just in case!
I already returned an iPod nano under this policy to upgrade to the video iPod. The nano's battery completely failed on me after about 2 weeks. The store said they had a bunch of nanos with bad batteries.

  • How to enlarge audio regions without timestretching (adding silence) ??????

In the Arrangement , id like to be abl to enlarge audio regions , so they fit in the length i need , but im not speaking about timestretching .
I explain myself : I have many short audio files in my arrangement . To be able to manipulate easily these regions , i want to enlarge them so they fit in the bars or in the loop , then i can just copy them or move them accurately . this is useful for un quantised region , wich can be a little difficult to move and copy .
Basically i want that logic creates a new audio file with silence before or/and after the region . Is this possible ?? How ???
    than in advance

hi dup -- I think this will fix your problem:
1 - Slice off ( with the scissors tool) a bit of any audio region that already exists, copy it (apple C) and then paste it a little way away from your original audio region(OAR) on the same track. Then rejoin your original piece of audio region.
2 - Place the Song Position Line ( SPL) exactly where you want the new audio region (NAR) to start. Let us say it is at bar beginning of bar 3 or if you are using time code 3seconds.
3 - Select your snipped bit of new audio region(NAR) and using the key command 'Catch Clock' - the audio region will snap right up against the SPL. ( Make sure OAR is not selected or it will also move ..which you dont want )
4 - Now select the NAR and go to the Audio menu and find the command Convert Region to New Audio File. This will turn the NAR into its own independent piece of new audio.
5 - Double click on the NAR - the Sample Editor will open. Go to Function and select the command for Silence. This will turn the NAR into a completely silent lump of audio.
6 - Now you have a Silent lump of audio ( NAR) and your old region(OAR) from which it originally came from. Select both and use the command for Merge. ( This default key command is sometimes J)
7 - A box will come up which says something about 'non contiguous regions.. do you want to create a new audio file?'
    The answer is YES
Here is a sort of diagram:
    {NAR} {OAR}
    becomes
    {NAR++OAR}
The piece above which says Original Region will have your audio sound.. but NAR and all the new stuff in between.... + will be as Wm Shakespeare said "the rest is silence"

  • HELP: Audio regions get out of sync when I change tempo

I've got Logic Pro 9. I've recorded audio on a few tracks, and they sound great together. When I go to change tempo (either in the transport bar or in the tempo track), the regions change in size and move around horizontally, and get out of sync as a result.
Has anyone had this problem? Why should changing the tempo of the project affect the position of the audio regions IN RELATION TO ONE ANOTHER? I want them to stay in sync after changing tempo.
    Thanks in advance!

The reason they move is that logic is a bar/beat based Sequencer rather than a time based sequencer like pro tools. The regions adhere to the tempo grid and when the tempo is changed, they seemingly lengthen or shorten because the tempo shifts the bar/beat grid with respect to time--and audio regions normally Are inflexible and last for a fixed amount of time no matter what the tempo is changed to. This is an advantage when your audio is quantized musical events, but for non musical events it's a disaster because it screws up your edits.
To fix the problem, find the timelock key command and highlight all regions you don't want the tempo change to affect. after selecting them all, timelock them with this command.
But, from your post Im guessing that you have bigger problems than this....Timelocking regions will only prevent region starts from shifting around and will leave all your edits unchanged. but it won't speed or slow down your audio; It will not alter lengths to fit a new tempo. if your tracks are music tracks in a certain tempo and you are trying to change the tempo of your recorded audio, you must enable the flex mode on each track. For this you should read the part of the manual on the flex engine. Bear in mind that the audio quality of this ranges from ok to terrible depending on the material.
The moral of the story is that you should try to arrive at the correct tempo before recording audio tracks.

  • Midi notes or audio region do not play at the start of a bar?

I am having an issue with a midi loop I have created. If I let the song play a bit until it reaches the loop, logic works just as you'd expect it and everything plays correctly. But if I stop the song, or if I set the song into cycle mode so it repeats, the very first note of the midi loop is ignored, and not played.
So for example, if I set the cursor to start at bar 9, the starting point of the loop, the first midi note is not played. But if a set the cursor at bar 8 and let it play into bar 9 and the loop, all of the notes in the loop play correctly.
I found the following description of the same problem on another forum, but it seemed to suggest that there is no fix for this, which if true, seems kinda bad for a pro application. I was wondering if anyone knew of a workaround or fix to this, because its really annoying missing the notes, or having to expand the cycle region just to get all of the notes to play. Here is the text from the other forum:
_Logic doesn't play the very start of my audio regions when I start playback_
Question: If a region starts at e.g. 1 1 1 1, and it starts playing from the same position, it seems that Logic misses the first few samples - which is especially noticeable with fast-attack transients.
Answer: Apparently Logic doesn't use some kind of pre-play buffering. The workaround is to have your entire song start e.g. one bar later, at 2 1 1 1, and let Logic play from 1 1 1 1. This workaround obviously doesn't work if you've set up a cycle - in which case Logic will miss the first samples when it starts playing as well. Next time it loops through the cycle it does play properly. There's no workaround for this - it's a serious shortcoming of the way Logic handles audio playback. With cycles, you could resort to using the Pause instead of the Play button/command: this will let you start playback from somewhere before the start of the cycle instead of starting at cycle-start (which is what Play does).

    I'm having the same problem.
one workaround is to change the delay to +1/192=20 in the delay box in inspector on the given midi track...but this is a terrible thing to have to do over and over again.
PLEASE help if you know what's going on.....I ran logic on my macbook and this NEVER happened. I just bought a macbook pro 2.5 and it's apparently now an issue?
I have searched the net for fixes, and none work....logic does have a pre-play buffer, but it's range isnt large enough to buffer the instrument I'm using...which means the range is less than 1/192...come on....that's messed.
If anyone figures this out, please message me back at [email protected]

  • Beat Mapping is changing speed of audio region, not the metronome!!!

    Hi Everyone,
I just today learned about beat mapping in Logic. I used it on one song that i'd recorded previously without a click track and it worked like a charm. I'm trying to use it on a different song now (same situation: previously recorded with no click) but for some reason with this song, it's changing the speed/length of my audio region to match the metronome instead of changing the speed of the metronome to match the speed of the audio. What's going on?!
    Thanks a bunch.

MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2.0 GHz Processor, 2 GB RAM

Well after many hours of searching through Logic Forums and flipping through the Logic Reference Manual, all to no avail, I've finally figured out what the problem was. I needed to uncheck the "Follow Te(mpo)" option in the Region Parameter Box for the region I was trying to beat map. The beat mapping process wasn't actually changing the length/speed of my audio region like I said it was in my initial post; it was simply playing over it slower or faster in order to preserve the audio-to-tempo ratio as I made the tempo slower or faster. All I needed to do was uncheck that little box and now beat mapping works exactly as described in the Reference Manual. WHY ON EARTH is the "Follow Te(mpo)" box not mentioned when discussing beat mapping?! More importantly, why is it not mentioned ANYWHERE in the entire Reference Manual?!?!? NOT ONCE!!! unbelievably frustrating.

  • Overlap audio regions on 1 track without cutting the previous one off

Im trying to overlap multiple audio regions on one track, so that the next one starts before the previous one ends but when i do this, each consecutive overlap basically replaces the remaining region of the one before it. to be more specific in order to maybe paint a better picture of what i am asking... i am creating machine gun audio for a video clip and i have a loop of a single shot plus the shell falling to the ground. im trying to overlap the loops so that the single shot of each come together in rapid fire succession to create the machine gun firing sound, but i want the sound of the shell falling for each shot to continue to play under the multiple copies of the overlapping loop. the problem is, when i overlap multiple loops, its not finishing the noise of the shell falling to the ground for each shot, it only plays the falling shell at the very end when there is no other overlap. i hope i did an ok job explaining what i am asking, haha trying to type this out was much more difficult that initially anticipated. thanks in advance for any help.

That's normal. Audio tracks are not polyphonic. Use several tracks or EXS24.

  • None of the regions show up...

..not even the portlet banners. :(
..I understand that if you're not authorized to access a portlet, at least the portlet banner would be displayed. But, in my case, only the page banner is displayed. None of the regions (or even thep portlet banners of the portlets contained in those regions) show up..
..does anybody have any idea on why this is happening? Considering that I've been given proper priveleges.
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    _lilim
    P.S.
I'm using Oracle Portal version 3.0.9 by the way.

Ok.. so I tried accessing the portal with administrator privileges, and went to 'View' the page that I couldn't access as an End User using my account. Unsurprisingly, an error returns: OA Framework Portlet Timeout.
two of the regions (left and right) simply returned the error in old-fashioned-one-phrase-'OA Framework Portlet Timeout' error form, while the center region displayed the Portlet banner with a proper error notification and a link to the exception details.
..I do not have a clue as to why this is happening in our 'Production' instance, albeit, it runs perfectly fine on our 'Development' instance. :/

  • Bug: option dragging audio regions doesn't preserve fadeins and fadeouts

I just noticed that when I option drag some audio regions, sometimes either the fadein or fadeout is lost. Usually it disappears on the copy, but sometimes the copy is fine but the original loses the fade.
Anyone else see this problem? Is it new to 8 or has it always been there? Any suggested workarounds? I tried using copy/paste instead of option drag, but that doesn't work since it creates clones instead of copies. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bump...has anyone else seen this problem, or is it unique to my setup?

  • Copy/pasting audio regions between different tempo projects

hi, ran into a strange problem when working on a film voiceover...
did the recording the other week for a new language version. when done i converted the takes to 48khz as that's the rate in the original logic file. edited together the new, english version cutting and mixing together the best parts of 5 takes. ended up with about 200 nice audio regions in a row.
what happened is that when i tried to copy the new english version in the old logic project it gets totally screwed up. the reason being (i think) that the new project is 120bpm and the old one 77,7476 (?), which i didnt notice before.
is there any way i can
    1) paste the 120 bpm stuff into the 77bpm stuff so that it ignores the tempo difference? – now the ends of the regions change, causing sentences to to end funilly, and there a gaps between regions.
    or
    2) change the 120bpm projects tempo to 77bpm without screwing it up?
    or any other solution?
    thanks,
    /r

    Hi Rikard,
Beforehand, forgive me for any overexplaining I might do. In case of underexplaining, just ask.
200 regions in a row? On one track, right?
    1) If so, you could simply merge all the audio regions into one fixed file. Select all regions on the track and hit the '=' shortcut. Logic will tell you that it is gonna make a new file. This new file you can then import into the other project. Audio (not loop) files are independent of Logic's tempo. It is just that the bar division doesn't line up with the tempo anymore. But if that is not a problem...
Also I do not understand why the new project is at 120 bpm? Is there a reason for that, other than that it is the default value when opening an empty project? If not, just set it to the 77 something of the old project. If there is already stuff in your new project and now you want to add your 200-region audio, use method 1). If you change the tempo, two thing change: the tempo of any mioditrack, and the time between audio regions. The audio regions itself will not change.
    regards, Erik.

  • Editing audio regions

I have two questions regarding editing audio regions that I had difficulty with. After referring to the quick start manual and the manual on the help menu, I was unsure how to proceed.
    1) Sometimes when I want to divide/cut an audio region so that I can copy part of it to another part of the track, I don't get it exactly at a zero crossing. I zoom in ALL the way possible and whenever I try to drag the corners to a zero crossing, I always jumps and cuts off another wave form. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the regions in the zero crossing. I tried double clicking on the region, it opened a type of audio editor. In the edit menu (I think), I checked the "zero crossing". When I zoomed in there and tried to adjust the selection or start, again it would not let me. Can someone please point me in the right direction.
    2) When I am moving regions on one track and there is a little bit of overlap, one region always cuts off the other one. I am having trouble figuring how to make logic understand which region I want "on top" and also wondering if there is anyway I can have the audio from both regions play simultaneously while they overlap on the same track.
    Thanks very much,
    ~Nico

okay, to answer Q:2 first...if there are two patches of audio overlapping, one will cut to the other as the scroll point reaches and passes them. if you want both to play simultaneously, put one patch of audio under the other, on another track.this is the quick and easy solution to that problem
for Q1, well there are a few approaches for editing audio. an easy way is to copy/paste the audio to the area on the arrange page you want it to be. double click it to open the audio edit window, then use the little in/out points at the left and right bottom corners respectively (they look like little triangles). move these points to the start/end point of the section of audio you want. you can make these points very precise. at this point you may want to go to the FILE drop down menu and 'save the selection as....', name it and add to audio window. then it will be named here to be re-used/edited without affecting the original audio. if you want to cut within a waveform, you can apply little fade in/outs to stop any clicking. remember any edits you make to your original pieces of audio are usually permanent, so always worth copying and renaming patches you are editing.
hope this helps, as i say, there are so many ways to edit audio, so i'm sure another user will give you some different advice. the more you experiment, the more you'll find little ways to do things.
as long as you have copies of the audio you are editing, just play around with it, untill you discover things...thats the best way.
    good luck
