Problem Uninstalling iTunes

I just recently bought a Macbook Pro. I have an iPod Touch and I used this on my old Windows XP. Now I will be using the iPod on my new computer, because I gave my XP to my mother who will be using it for her brand new iPod Touch. I have tried to uninstall then reinstall iTunes on the XP to get rid of my old music/data/etc. so that she could start over. But when I reinstall iTunes on the XP, my stuff keeps popping back up. What do I do to get rid of this (because she does not want my music, etc)?

Good-O.
What you're running into on the XP box is actually a design feature ... iTunes content and library files are not supposed to be removed by uninstalling iTunes. (Otherwise your library and content files would be annihilated every time you updated iTunes on a Windows box, because an update of iTunes involves uninstalling the previous version of iTunes prior to installing the new one.)
So, try this instead.
Install and launch iTunes on your Mum's PC. When your library comes up, click the "Music" thingy off to the left, and go "Edit > Select All". Hit the delete key. Say yes to the dialog box that comes up. Assuming your content is in the default location, you'll probably then be asked if you want to send the files to the recycle bin. Say yes to that one too.
Repeat the process for any Movies, TV shows and Podcasts by clicking on the appropriate item off to the left, and then doing the deletions.
Now to remove any playlists you've set up (leave the default ones in place), right-click on the playlist and select "Delete".
Now your Mum can load in her music and other content.

  • Problem uninstalling Itunes/Quicktime/Apple products from my computer?

I have never had a problem with Itunes before, but recently, when trying to transfer newly downloaded songs from my Itunes, to my Ipod, the songs wouldn't sync. A message flashed up saying that I needed to re-install Itunes because Mobile Device Support was out of date.
When I tried to re-install Itunes however, my computer didn't allow me to do so. Instead I was presented with a message saying that I was unable to uninstall Itunes because Windows Installer was not properly downloaded on my computer. However, this problem only occurs exclusively in relation to Apple products installed on my computer, as I am able to re-install other programs.
I've tried every online solution offered and nothing works. No matter how hard I try, I can't re-install Itunes. Please help - I NEED MY MUSIC.

What's the precise text of that message please, km?

  • Problems uninstalling iTunes data on Windows 7

    Hello,
Can someone please help me out.
I recently had problems with the backup data on my iPhone 5S. Whenever I would try and sync my phone with iTunes on Windows 7 the backup would get stuck.
I read on one of the threads that previous backup data can be manually deleted from Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. I did so by first cut-pasting the old backup folder to my desktop and then I tried to backup my iPhone and it worked. However, when I tried to delete the old backup folder from my desktop the folder wouldn't go away. I restarted my pc and even ran it on safe mode to delete this folder but it just wouldn't go away. After that everytime I would try to even click on this 'corrupted' folder my system would get stuck but otherwise everything worked fine on my pc. So I thought maybe if I tried to reinstall iTunes I might be able to get rid of this folder. But, unfortunately, after I uninstalled iTunes I am not able to reinstall it on my pc. The instalation keeps giving an error.
Again, I tried restarting and getting rid of the following folders that still existed (as mentioned on Apple Support):
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\CoreFP
Still no success I am unable to delete the above folders and the 'corrupted' one. I have a lot of stuff on my phone which I haven't been able to backup for days now plus my computer gets stuck if I even go near that 'corrupted' folder (which I can't even move from my desktop).
Can anyone please help me solve this problem. I need to delete the corrupted folder and install iTunes again.
I would really appreciate your help. Thank you!

See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for tips on repairing the iTunes installation. One of the tools mentioned there, Unlocker, should be able to delete the folders that you are having trouble removing.

  • *Problems uninstalling itunes/quicktime after using windows install cleanup

I was having problems installing itunes/quicktime 7.6. Everytime I tried to install it it would say that it does not have a valid digital signiture. So one of the suggestions I saw on this forum was to install windows install cleanup and use it on itunes and quicktime. So I did but all it did is mess up my old itunes/quicktime. Now when I go to try and uninstall itunes and quicktime from the add and remove programs in the control pannel it does not even show itunes or quicktime in my program list. Any suggestions??

Ok, Update. I was able to remove itunes and quicktime manually after going into my windows task manager and to the processes tab and ended all processes involving itunes, apple, or quicktime. So now when I install itunes/quicktimes via apples site when it gets to the end it just disapears and nothing happens. I searched to see if it installed anything and it didn't, didn't even give me any reasons why. Can anyone help me with this?? It would help me a ton!

Does anyone know how i can get help resolving this issue? thanks

With that one, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and then click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another ITunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

    Hello there, ytnoj.
Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes can be a tricky endeavor and must be done in a very specific way. The following Knowledge Base article provides the step-by-step of the process:

  • Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes... getting beyond P/Oed!!!

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

  • I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab.  Everything else seems to work okay in itunes.  I have uninstalled it and reloaded it 4 or 5 times, but still freezes up.

I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab which shows the apps that are loaded on my phone.  Everything else in the itunes software seems to be working okay.  The problem is in the part where you sync the newly purchased apps.  The apps will all be blank that are downloaded and that part of the software crashes itunes or freezes up.  I can get out of itunes okay after the freeze up, but it just stops me from syncing anything that I have newly added.  If anyone has had this problem before or knows someone that has, please let me know how I can fix it.  I have uninstalled and reloaded itunes 4 or 5 times, but the problem is still there.  I might add that I have been using itunes and purchasing apps for 2 to 3 years without any problems.  HELP.

You would get better response from the iTunes community forum.
    Have a nice day!

  • I am unable to uninstall itunes (to install new version as well). It says I don't have sufficient access rights yet I am the Adminstrator. Anybody else with this problem? Is there a fix?

I have had a problem updating iTunes on my PC using Windows 7. It will not allow me to uninstall the current version of iTunes (10.2.2). The first Windows Installer box says: "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."
Then a Programs and Features box comes up and says: "You do not have sufficent access to uninstal iTues. Please contact your system administrator."
Well, I am the Administrator yet it won't let me do this uninstall. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

Hmmmm. Nothing instantly springing out at me as looking wrong there.
Let's try reregistering the Windows Installer service.
First, launch a command prompt as an administrator. In your Start search, type cmd then right-click on the cmd that comes up and select "Run as administrator".
    At the command prompt:
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /unregister and hit enter.
Type %windir%\system32\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Type %windir%\syswow64\msiexec.exe /regserver and hit enter.
Restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Any better luck this time?

  • Cannot install iTunes on my Win7Pro PC for several months after a long time w/o problems. Uninstalled iTunes Bonjour with no improvement.  Help?

Since October 2011 I cannot update iTunes when I receive an Apple UD notice (Win7Pro PC).  I have also lost communication with my iPod Touch.  In all cases I have attempted to download the latest version of iTunes.  Yeasterday I uninstalled iTunes & Bonjour.  I still cannot install iTunes.  What can be done to allow iTunes to install?

If you want to do complete reinstall, please follow following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • HT1925 When trying to uninstall iTunes I get error message 2324 saying it indicates a problem with the package

I have an iPod classic.Somehow it stopped interacting with my computer. When i try to click on itunes i get an error message. When i connect my iPod to the computer it does not show the music i have on it.I tried to uninstall itunes and all apple related programs but I get an error message 2324 when I try to uninstal iTunes

  • When trying to uninstall iTune (because the current install has problems), I get the error message 2324.  What should I do to reinstall the application?

When trying to uninstall iTune (because the current install has problems; iTune error message states it cannot sync and that I should reinstall the application; also, it fails when I tried to upgrade to the latest release), I get the error message 2324.  What should I do to reinstall the application?

That installer error is a "Can't open file" error
It suggest that you may have a corrupt file.
    Try running a disk check
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors
If it fixes errors try uninstalling iTunes again.
If that doesn't work, is it possible for find out the name of the problem file, is further information available? Try looking in your Action center - that's on the control panel. Another place is in the Windows Error logs. From the start menu , right click on "Computer" and select manage, then Event viewer.
If nothing emerges, try a manual uninstall of iTunes and related programs according to this method:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Don't worry if an uninstall fails, that is expected. Go on to the part where you have to delete files (2. Verify iTunes etc completely deleted) . Hopefully you manage to find a file that can't be deleted, that is the one we will need to deal with.

Doublechecking something Emcee. I see you've got Windows 7 x64, so I'm assuming you've got at least 4 GB of RAM. Do you also have an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see the following Microsoft document:
[You encounter problems when you move data over USB from a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset and at least 4GB of RAM|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972]
