Problem Updateing latest Security Software

So on Thursday March 20 2014, I tried to update  OS X Mavericks for the security update. As I was doing this I had my Nike+ Fuelband plugged in to charge for the next day. I come back 5 minutes later and my computer is turned off. I try to turn it back on and it comes up with a white screen with an apple logo in the center, a turn wheel, and a loading bar. Which makes me think It is installing the update so I leave it go for another 10 minutes. I come back and my computer is turned off and when I turn it back on he screen from before comes back on, so I watch it go through the loading bar and just before it finishes my computer turns off. So i troubleshoot for a little and launch it in safe mode only to find out that my Recovery Hard Drive is locked and I cant repair Macintosh Hard Drive either. WHAT HAPPENED?!?!

See if repairing permissions & restarting afterwards work.
Save and/or quit your applications & doucuments
Go to Applications>Utilities Folder
Click Disk Utility
Click the Volumn (HD) that you want to check.
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button. (Don't worry about verifying)
At the bottom of window when the repairs have finished, you will see the “most important thing”:
Permission Repairs Complete
The previliges have been repaired or completed on the selected volumn.
Restart your computer .
**Same directions are also in the OS Mac Help Menu.**
Also see Knowledge Base Article - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature
TIP-You should Repair Permissions & restart:
After installing and/or updating an OS (Operating System).
After installing software.
After burning sessions

  • Updated latest security software as prompted, now Mac won't restart....

The screen is up and running the little 'wait' thingy, for the last 12 hours. I don't want to turn it off and on manually until I know more, as my IMac crashed for no known reason once before and it was many dozens of hours of searching and experimenting before someone was able to finally get it back on. It was a software and not hardware problem, the store tech ascertained.
It has been quite slow since it was fixed, but working normally otherwise. The time I last turned it on, that morning, it started normally, but just starting Entourage took 2 full minutes, timed on a clock. The update alert came up and I chose to update just the security one. I didn't restart immediately as I had other programs up. Later when I was done with them, I clicked on the restart button on the update screen, and then it just wouldn't start up again, as described above. Is it something to do with the update?
I don't know why a powerful computer would run slowly in the first place, but this not starting happened with the security update's required restart.
New here, and I thank you for any help.
    Natalia

Your only solution may be do do a hard shutdown, press the power button until the machine powers off, then :
    Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
If no problems are found, start up normally, and please post back with what OS you are running and what the update was, but don't install it again just yet.
If DU finds problems it can't repair, then I'm afraid, unless you have DiskWarrior, you will need to take it back to the repair shop.

  • Problems with latest security update

    Hi there,
After I've installed latest security update via Software Update in MAC OS X some problems emerged.
First and mos visible thing .html and .htm documents on my desktop does not have safari icon anymore, they have some blank icon and doubleclick on them does not start-up Safari, why?
Second, how can I found out what else was(is) changed or modified in my system?
Third, as first aid I've run daily, weekly and monthly maintenance scripts as well as permissions repair (2x).
Does not help! I know, that running daily, weekly and
monthly and perm repair is like opening window because water tap is leaking but that was first thing I did...
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1.33 GHz, 512 MB, 12-inch

I've tryed to repair permissions at least 3x, and also run update_prebindings
Problem prevails, even if I log in as other/new user, indicating that issue is system-wide not user wide.

note 'empty' icon at newly saved webarchive, as well as fact that Safari is now 2x in dock, once I newly add it (with correct icon) second time original with silly icon with document and triangles....
    I am getting desperate.

  • Problems after latest Security Update

I installed the latest Security Update (009) and the Java update (Rel 6). Now my mouse has become very erratic and I cannot go directly to my mail on my host site like I did before the update. I have an iBook without the update on it and it works fine. The difference is that the updated machine has 523.12.2 on it and the iBook has 523.12 on it and I haven't updated Java either. Is there any to back off these updates? Help!!!

I too experienced problems with the keyboard and mouse on this G5, starting about a week ago when I installed the Java Release 6 and QuickTime 7.3.1 updates. The two symptoms I noticed most were slow, jerky scrolling through topic lists in MT-NewsWatcher (using the arrow keys) and difficulty with selecting text with the mouse in Safari (the selection being anchored several characters away from where I’d begin a click-&-drag).
The latest patch, Security Update 2007-009 (PowerPC) v1.1, seems to have solved the problems for me.

  • Problems After Latest Security Update From March 10, 2015

Is anyone having problems after the latest security update from March 10th?
First my screen went from 16:9 to 4:3 and the resolution turned into a blocky 800 x 600. I managed to find a program
online to correct this problem called SwitchResX. It's unfortunately a pay program for 14 Euro. Here's the link
in case anyone needs it http://www.madrau.com/index.html
Now some alias icons in my dock have disappeared, but are kinda visible when I run my mouse over them, their
names pop up, but have no icons in the dock.
Sometime booting up is clumsy with a lot of hang time and I have to restart my Mac Mini manually by pressing
the button in the back to get a clean bootup to my desktop screen.
Could Apple do a fix real soon for this Security Update blunder?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Problems With Latest Security Update (September)

I just installed the latest security update on my G5 and now I can't access many of my major applications. The warning "Application Launch Failure" appears with the following text:
The application "entourage" could not be launced because of a shared lirary error:,.<MicrosoftEntourage><CarbonLib><CFMPriv_SpeechSynthesis>"....
Holy Crap, what's all this? I've restarted several times and ran the disk utility application.

    Stephen
I don't know if this MicroSoft KB article will help, but it may get you started:
You receive a "Shared library" error message when you start Office for Mac programs
Did you by any chance update iTunes or QuickTime, or both, recently?

  • Problems updating iPod mini software

I have OS 10.3.9 but recieve and error message saying You cannot update this volume. You need 10.2.8 or later.

    I have a similar problem.
When connecting my iPod video, iTunes says it needs a software update. But whenever I proceed, My iTunes gets a 'server error'. (...The iPod software update server could not be contacted....")
Is there a way to download just the update in zip file outside iTunes? In a FTP server perhaps?
It's been a day passed and I still can't update my iPod software.

  • 10.4.7 update & latest security update

    Hi,
I've been muddling around with the latest update to OSX server 10.4.7 (from 10.4.6), as well as the installation of the latest security update from earlier this week.
Now whenever users access to the AFP share points, or just the process of logging in, the process is slow where it sometimes take up to :30 for the login cred. screen to appear, and another significant amount of time to actually have the share point to mount. Also, server volumes/share points are dissappearing from the workstations when idle after about 10 mins. I have all the auto log off for idle users turned off in the AFP Server Admin settings, so something else is causing the slowdown and interruption.
Should I try reinstalling the 10.4.7 update again, or is this maybe the security update causing the slowdown?
I remember there was a similar occurrence back in the early days of Panther server where a security update caused extremely slow transfers rates.
Any info, or a point to an article on this would be most appreciated, and I'm sorry if this was answered elsewhere and didn't catch it.
    Thanks, trot

  • Boot up problems after latest Security Update

I just arrived home after a three day vacation, and I booted up my Power Mac G4 running Tiger 10.4.11. Software Update immediately notified me of a Security Update, which I okayed. After restart, my screen showed the grey Apple logo for a bit, then went right to a grey circle with a slash through it. I restarted the machine with my Tiger Install disk and ran Disk Utility, and then ran through the Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk utilities, with no abnormalities noted. It'll boot into OS 9 just fine, but when I restart while hold down the Option key for Startup Disk select, then select the Mac OS X disk (I have two hard drives on my machine), it shows me the Circle/Slash icon again as before. What gives? everything was working fine until this blasted Security Update (I believe it was the 2008-004 update).
I just recently upgraded my Mac OS X volume with a 500GB hard drive and a controller card, as my previous drive failed. Did something get messed up with that setup after this update?

I don't know whether other users would make any difference, as I don't even get to the User Select screen yet- would changing my password really have any effect?
Safe Boot will bring up the Login window if it gets that far.
Not sure if the PW change would help, best to wait on that 'till after all else fails.
PS. I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • Major problems after latest security update

I did a security update a few daus ago updating my G5.
When started it acts normal when <I log in (using file wault) but when the desktop appears it takes forever. Ati first the harddrives appear on the desktop (after maybe 30 minutes). Then the top menu after a lot longer and then finally documents I have on the desktop. When i diagnose with diskwarrior it crashes. I can open the folders on the hard drive but not the program folder, when trying to open that the computer just starts thinking. Programs and internet connection works but as soon as I try to do anything related to the system the spinning rainbow spinning thing starts and never stops.
I am desoerate for a sollution, any hints on what I can do?

    Hi Jason,
tried safe mode yesterday (before reading this post) and the computer acts the same, I also did another security update last night since I saw that one more recent than the one I did previously, so I updated java and security and now the problem is worse.
The computer starts up with the gray screen with the apple and when it is supposed to move on it shuts down again
It is correct that I use file vault, the reason for this is that we had some problems with burglars at my previous job and I have some sensitive data on the computer. I just moved the computer to my home a few weeks ago so if I will only get it started I will disable it. The problem is with moving I can't find my system DVD so I can't start from it.
Is it possible to burn a disk with operating system from my Powerbook 17" G4 or is that not an option? If possible what should I burn to be able to boot?

  • Problem updating my itunes software!

    Please help me!!
I have updated my iphone from a 3GS to a 4S and am having difficulties updating my itunes so that I can sync all of my contacts/photos/music etc
    I've attempted updating directly through Itunes & also tried downloading the latest version from the website. The following is what happens;
    - Itunes downloads to the computer and I proceed to run the setup
    - the 'Welcome to Itunes' window pops up, I click next and begin updating
    - It then gets half way through and I get a message pops up stating 'There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package, A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor'
I have run this process over 10 times and It is the same message. I dont understand!!!
    Can anyone help me??

This is not hard to solve. You need to make sure you uninstall all iTunes components (along with iTunes) by following precisely this support page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Next, restart your PC and reinstall iTunes from here:
