Problem updating Airport Utility to 6.2 from 5.6

I have downloaded Airport V6.2 and proceeded through the install process.  Everything looked fine during the install, but v6.2 doesn't show up anywhere, nor does it replace v5.6.  I repeated this process two times with the same result.  Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you.

There is no need to upgrade really, 5.6 is superior to 6.2. All versions of OS X that can run version 6 already have version 6, there is no installer.

    Can I use accounts in the Airport Utility to keep backup from multiple macs separate and separate?

    Backups from multiple Macs are always kept separate. Each Mac TM will create its own sparsebundle and will not interfere with others.
    Using the accounts in AU will simply make each sparsebundle only accessible to that user.. ie it is a purely a security measure.. that is so weak as to be useless .. anyone can bypass it by pressing the reset for 1sec.
    And what it will do is cut off everyone from their existing backups.. you will be warned when you set it up that what is about to happen may not be 100% goodness.. pay attention.. it is not.

  • After any settings update, Airport utility can no longer see airport

    I see many complaints on the internet, but no solutions.
    If I go into the airport extreme via the utility and make some changes that require the airport to reboot, it becomes invisible to the airport utility. Therefore, anytime I want to make changes, I have to make them all at once and redo everything if I ever need an additional change.
    I see that Apple support wants $29 for a call, however I have an extended warranty from the store I bought it from. It is probably a waste of time and money for all parties involved, but I could just bring it back every time I get a chance and get a new one until a new firmware update arrives.
    Does anyone know if there is a fix -- like reverting to older versions of the firmware or the utility?
    Details: Connection: wired ethernet. Utility version 5.4.2 Firmware 7.42
    Sometimes a soft reset works to restore visibility and my settings survive. Sometimes a hard reset is required. Other than that, it appears to work just fine. If I didn't need to regularly maintain port mappings I probably won't care -- but I do and this is the most expensive router I have purchased for home use by far. The problem is easily repeatable so this is definitely a bug.

    I have the same issue. I used to be able to get to my Airport Extreme by going to the File menu in Airport Utility and typing in its IP address and password but even that doesn't work anymore... What's going on Apple?
    I'm accessing my AE over ethernet due to wi-fi bugs in Snow Leopard.

  • Any problem with Airport Utility 5.3.2 and an AirDisk

    Morning.
    Can I harmlessly update onto Airport Utility 5.3.2 without getting troubles using an USB hard disk connntected to the Airport Extreme base station? 5.3.1 has fixed a bug that has caused reiterative disconnects to the AirDisk occurring with 5.3.0.
    And I really to not want to get these troubles back in 5.3.2.
    Are my fears baseless?
    TIA and kind regards, Friedrich

    Airport Utility 5.3.2 is quite harmless. More people having problem with OS X 10.5.3 update, which is making the AirDisk very slow and unresponsive. I end up re-formating the USB hard disk to solve the problem.

  • Printer problem with Airport Utility and Epson CX5500

    Hi,
    I recently bought an iMac '24 2.66 Computer and was able to set up my internet through an airport. When it came to hooking up a wireless Epson CX5500 printer, the airport recognized it, but when it came to print in the printing queue it simply wont print. I was able to find a very helpful post that would possibly be my next step in fixing it (probably just a program error or hook up)
    Here is that post:

    +Hi there,+
    +I had the same problem, but with an Epson CX5500.+
    +Firstly, BTW - I found out there IS a list of supported printers: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1370?viewlocale=en_US. Before you scream - "that's leopard you idiot"; in the table, if the printer is listed with a MODERN driver, then it will work with Airport Base Station - eg TimeCapsule.+
    +Next. My problem was solved by deleting the spaces put into the printer name by timecapsule. When the printer is recognised it was called "Epson CX 5500". My Macbook printer service then set up a Queue which was mdns://...Epson%20CX%205500... Note - substitution of %20 for space in the name. I removed the spaces from the name via airport utility, manual set up, printers. Now the macbook could print to it.+
    Cheers,
    Mark
    The problem that i have is the step by step process of altering this or finding it. As i made the name of the shared printer EPSONStylusCX5500 but could not acess the printer name one to change it. The url link still shows the 20%. If someone could please take the time to explain on how to do it, then maybe just maybe, i would be able to print wirelessly. Any other ideas or even cheap printers that would work without a problem as i would simply go out and buy one instead. Thanks.

  • Cannot update Airport Utility

    I have Airport Utility Version 5.1 (510.18). It tells me that a newer version (5.2.1) is available. Software Update does not find me any updates.
    I downloaded it from Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007002formac.htm l)
    However, the installation complains that, "You cannot install airport base station update 2007-002 on this volume." This update requires airport utility 5.0 to be installed." I clearly have a newer version of the utility (5.1) than what the update requires (5.0). Still, no go.
    Any ideas?

    Try using Pacifist to install the updated software.

  • Problems updating iPhoto to 9.2.1 from 9.1.5

    Hi there,
    I bought an iMac several months ago and just tried to update the pre-installed iPhoto software from 9.1.5 to 9.2.1 in order that I can use the Photo Stream within iCloud.
    When I log into iCloud, Photo Stream is not ticked and there is a box on the right with ‘Update’.
    I click on update and it takes me to the ‘Updates’ window where it states that 1 update is available for iPhoto Version 9.2.1.
    I select Update and a box appears with the message:
    This update is not available.
    You must have previously purchased the item being updated. Tap Buy to purchase it now.
    Although the software was already pre-installed I click on the Buy button and get the following message:
    Are you sure you want to buy and download iPhoto?
    Your payment card will be charged for this purchase and your app will begin to download immediately.
    I click on Buy and get the message:
    We could not complete your request
    There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)
    I click on OK and another message appears:
    Purchase of this item is not currently available.
    This item is being modified. Please try again later.
    I click on OK again and am back to where I started
    From searching on google, it appears that this is a common problem for those buying iMac with pre-installed Lion however I've not been able to find out what the solution is.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Clare

  • Updated airport utility will not work on older Airport Extreme

    I have a mid-2011 Macbook Air with OS 10.9.4. So that's up-to-date. I recently updated my Airport Utility to version 6.2. I have an old Airport Extreme. The new Airport utility will not work with the old Airport Extreme. Apple will not let me download the older Airport Utility, because I have a newer one installed: classic Catch-22. Any ideas? I need to find out my SSID to connect with a new Denon AVR receiver. Is there any way to find out my SSID with Airport Utility?

    You must first uninstall AU 6.2 before you can install an older version. This may be removed by the mods so get it while you can:

  • Timecapsule and iMac Early 2008 - Problems with Airport Utility

    I have bought a new iMac and a TimeCapsule. With *Leopard 10.5.5* i have some problems to change the configuration. The Assistant will not work. The changed settings will not send to theTime Capsule (Ethernet or and Wireless). The airport signal is _very low_ under OSX (-60 — -64 dB). When I use airport with Windows XP on Bootcamp partition it will work fine. No problems with changing settings and the signal is -1 db.

  • Is anybody else having issues with Software Update Server offering Airport Utility 6.1?

    Running 10.7.3. Everything else is hunky dorry, but no matter what I do, I can't get this update to show up to clients.
    Settings are set to:
    NOT automatically copy and updates from Apple (but this update shows the blue circle reflecting it's copied)
    NOT automatically enabled copied updates (but this update has the checkbox enabled)
    DELETE outdated software updates (I had previosly been struggling with Choose Version, but this seems to obviate the need for that)
    I've stopped swupd, removed the update, updated the catalog, re-enabled. The catalog updated, the file re-downloaded, but still.... won't show up to clients.
    Is this update (Airport Utility 6.1) working for anyone else? Could it be a global issue related to this update, or is this just another instance of swupd flakiness?

    You can still use iDVD even though Apple doesn't support it. It still works like a champ.
    A lot has changed in the new iMovie. Some of the changes are good, but some not so much. My biggest problem is that the video quality of shared projects is INFERIOR to the old iMovie. So for now, I've gone back to the old version. Hopefully Apple will issue an update that will fix this.

  • Airport Utility Problem

    My connection to my Airport Extreme base station is strong and seems to be working fine,but when I open Airport Utility it says it is unable to find any airport base stations even though there clearly is a working one. And, since it doesn't recognize a base station, all its menus are greyed out so I can't access it at all. Any help on how to regain Airport Utility functionality - especially for when I eventually do lose the connection and will need airport utility to re-connect? Have updated Airport Utility and Airport base station firmware. Airport Utility still won't recognize the functioning Airport Extreme save for immediately following unplugging and then replugging the base station in - but then it 'loses' it again. Any ideas?

    The problem started before the recent updates were issued so I was hopeful they would remedy it,but updating Airport utility and the AEBS firmware yielded no change. Interference Robustness is off as I usually have it (though I also tried it on to see if anything could help and it didn't).No new phones or appliances and AEBS location hasn't changed. Even downloaded APGrapher based on a suggestion to someone else in another Mac forum who is having an identical problem. It revealed no other wireless access points(save 'linksys' which has been listed as a network from the time I first set up my Apple network and I must confess I don't know why or how it's there and have just never used it or deleted it because I wasn't having any problems). Nothing has changed around or in the home of significance that I could point to as a cause for Airport Utility's sudden inability to recognize a functioning AEBS after they had been 'communicating' fine for over 1 year.

  • Are there any further Airport Utility updates past 4.2?

    I'm having some issues with my Airport Extreme base station and I'm not really sure what to do about it, so here goes:
    Lately it's been sort of quitting on me. It will drop the network, become undiscoverable by my iBook, and just plain requires a restart. I've read other threads about this, but haven't really seen any fixes. I have 10.4.10, and firmware 5.7 for the base station. Is there any updated Airport Utility that I can get a hold of, or would this even help? I have an older base station (the g one, not the n), and Airport Admin Utility 4.2. Is that all there is for this base station?
    Maybe the thing is just going kaput on me. It was refurbished after all.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Cris

    Currently, there are no further updates to the AirPort software applicable to your base station.

  • Airport Utility 6.0.0 breaks support for my Airport Express

    Computer updated to Airport Utility 6.0 but that breaks support for my Airport Express.  When I try to access the Airport Express it tells me I have to download Airport Utility 5.6 - but I can't find that anywhere on the Apple sites to download!

    My catch-all list of Airport 6.0 & Firmware 7.6.1 problems:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I've compiled a catch-all list of problems and changes with Airport Utility version 6.0 and FW 7.6.1. Some of the items may be relevant to this thread.
    THE PROBLEMS WITH AIRPORT UTILITY 6 AND FIRMWARE 7.6.1:
    Introduction: If you find AirPort Utility v6.0 too limiting or strange, you can ALSO install AirPort Utility v5.6, released alongside v6.0, to maintain all your previous capabilities. It works fine with both Airport g and n devices.
    PLEASE NOTE: According to Apple you must FIRST install Airport Utility v6.0 in order to access and install Firmware upgrade 7.6.1. Do that first. THEN install Airport Utility v5.6 and use it instead if you prefer. HOWEVER: Another user has informed me that they were able to use Airport Utility v5.6 to install Firmware v7.6.1 without any problems! This would mean anyone can avoid Airport Utility 6.0 entirely if they chose.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    1) According to Apple's documentation, Airport Utility version 6.0 is ONLY for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. It is NOT for 10.6 Snow Leopard. If you accidentally installed v6, you'll have to dig around in Apple - Support - Downloads for the previous relevant version for your devices and OS version. Here is the relevant page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1483
    2) The HELP for Airport Utility has been updated. When you first access it you may well be looking at the old Help. It is supposed to update itself spontaneously over the Internet. It took a couple minutes in my case. Be sure you are looking at the NEW Help before you start using it. One way to tell is that the list of help topics essentially doubles from what there used to be. Also, the very first topic in the NEW Help should read:
    "Set up an AirPort device > Set up a new AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule"
    3) The HELP has some WRONG information. Here we go:
    3a) There is NO "Enable Guest Network" setting. You CANNOT create a guest network or name it or give it any settings. Why this is still listed in Help, I have no idea. Why the setting is gone: This is most likely because the technology behind guest networks, WPS, has been thoroughly CRACKED in the wild. Google "WPS cracked" for lots of documentation of the situation. It won't be resolved soon.
    3b) I can't find any 'Setup Assistant". Everything is now manual. This is not to say that there isn't a setup assistant that appears when you FIRST set up your Airport device. I don't know.
    4) After installing Airport Utility v6.0, there is no indication of the accompanying firmware update until you decide to run the new version. Even then, you have to click on the big icon of your Airport device and notice an 'Update' button about halfway down the popup window. You then have to assume that this button is telling you to update your firmware.
    5) After you update your Airport device's firmware, you may well discover an ERROR subwindow popping up inside Airport Utility that says:
    "An error occurred while updating the firmware. -6721"
    Don't panic! All you need to do is go into your Wi-Fi settings, either in your menubar or the Network preferences, and turn OFF Wi-Fi, then turn ON Wi-Fi again. This is part of a long standing bug in Lion's Wi-Fi with which I bet you are already familiar, certainly up through Lion version 10.7.2.
    6) Miscellaneous changes in Airport Utility 6:
    6a) The keyboard command to manually change your Airport devices settings is GONE. You have to click the little 'Edit' button after clicking on the big icon for your device.
    6b) There is no longer any summary window for your Airport device. You have to instead click on the big "Internet" icon for related data, then click on the big icon for your Airport device for local settings data.
    6c) There is no longer any HELP advising users to EXPORT their settings. (The Help only talks about Import of settings). BE SURE TO EXPORT YOUR NEW SETTINGS! I did this immediately after both updates.
    6d) MAC address filtering for Airport devices is GONE.
    6e) All references to IPV6 anywhere are GONE. I have to assume the IPV6 settings are now entirely working and entirely automatic. Let's hope so.
    6f) Signal and Noise data and graphs are GONE. Use Apple's Wi-Fi Diagnostics app instead. Apple have hidden it here in Lion:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/W-Fi Diagnostics
    6g) In order to access the menu items in Airport Utility, you have to first click on the big icon for your Airport device.
    --> No doubt there are other changes, oddities or bugs related to these changes. But this is what I came up with during a cursory strafing of the software.
