Hi, Have updated iphone from 4.3 and had to do a restore which has now rendered my phone useless as it say the sim is not valid. I am in Colombia and this is very frustrating as I cannot just pop to the apple store here. Please Help...

Sounds like you have a phone that was hacked to unlock it. Updating has re-locked it to the original carrier. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Contact them.

  • Problem Updating iPhone with iMac

Whenever I try and update my iPhone 4 from my iMac, it just sits there for hours not completing. It's at 99%.
Whenever I try and update it from my sister's iMac, it works perfectly.
What is the problem with my computer? I have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, but that doesn't work.
Right now, I am running OSX Lion, but had the same problem with Snow Leopard.

    Hello jennywijaya,
I would be concerned too if I was not able to backup my iPhone.  I recommend the following article for troubleshooting backup issues with iTunes:

If you are still unable to update after creating the backup, I recommend the following article:

  • Are there any problems updating directly from OS X 10.6 to Mountain Lion 10.8? X

Will I have any particular difficulty updating directly from OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to 10.8 Mountain Lion using a download from the App Store?
iMac is current with the latest 10.6.8 version.
Thank you for any comments or suggestions.

You want to check compatibility of your apps and that your Mac can support ML.
Also, although the specs say 2GB of RAM, IMO 4GB should be a minimum.
The app Store DL is slow. Once you DL it, before installing it copy the installer from your Applications folder, so if you ever need to use it again you have it. The reason for this is that it self destructs after restart.

  • Having problems updating iphone software to version 5.0

I currently have version 4.3.1 and finally decided to update iphone software to version 5.0.  It goes through the 6 minute process, but then I get the error message:  "There was a probem downloading the software for the IPhone -----.  The network connection ttimed out.  Make sure your network setting are correct and your network connection is active or try again later."
I've tried several times and keep getting the same message.  My network connection is active and I've just the firewall and made sure it allows itunes updates.
Please help!  Any other suggestions?  When answering please be very specific - I'm really clueless with the computer.
    Thanks in advance!

    try this,
Plug in, click update software, and click download ONLY.
Let the ipsw file download complete,... then click update.
This way is much better. If you keep having error message, its either your internet connection is inconsistent or Apple's server is inconsistent... usually more likely the former.

  • IOS Iphone Syncing problem - UPDATE direct from Skype Support

I've been having problem getting messages on my iphone for a week now. No group messages, no notifications, and I cannot receive groups calls or messages. I have the latest version of iOS and reinstalled and reset my phone severals times. I contacted Skype support and found out they are doing a SILENT update, and that we can experience problems on this for the next several weeks, and there is NOTHING YOU CAN DO. I requested they post an update to keep users informed so they don't spend a bunch of time debgging, but guess what, they won't. So hpefully see this post before you spend 3 hours trying to figure out the problem. Please give a kudos if this helps, so that others will see too. REPLY if you're having the same problem. Thanks!!

i'm having problems since 2015-07-31 on my iphone4 (7.1.2) - it syncs msgs only if the other party is online at the same time. all offline msgs are ignored without error or something.
but strange as it is it still works without issues on my iphone6 (8.4)... both devices run skype 5.14.0.46

  • Problems updating iPhone 3GS from 3.0.1

I have read numerous other posts on this topic, but they have not helped me. Whenever I connect my iPhone to my Mac, I am prompted to update the iPhone software, but this has failed repeatedly, with err=-3259. I have tried connecting the Mac to my wireless router with an ethernet cable, and have also tried turning off the firewall. I have no specific antivirus software installed to turn off. I have tried restoring my iPhone, but this also fails, as the iPhone software update is "timed out" with the same error message. Any ideas, anyone?

That's because Apple is no longer signing v3.1.3 nor any firmware other than iOS4.  You could try following a downgrade to v3.1.3, see these:

  • Trying to update iPhone from 4.3.1 to 4.3.3 on my iMAc but keep getting error message saying, "Network Connections Timing Out". What is the problem?

iPhone update to 4.3.3 failed and gave me the error message, " update failed due to network connections timing out". I am using a cable modem with ethernet. iPhone is a 4G currently running 4.3.1. What is the solution?

i believe it is a result of a weak connection. maybe try it at someone else's place?

  • Problems updating iPhone to 3.0 on Windows Vista

Alright so I decided to attempt to install the 3.0 software onto my iPhone 3G.
I walked away from my computer and came back to "Could not install due to unknown error."
After this my iPhone went into recovery mode and is no longer recognized by iTunes at all. I've tried putting it into DFU mode and connecting it to my computer but still no dice. I even connected it to a computer running XP under both recovery and DFU mode and still iTunes will not recognize my phone.
I've run out of things to try and this is EXTREMELY frustrating, anyone out there come up with a fix for this?

I had mega problems too. Try following my posting as below after creating a new user account on your computer. See my posting on 20/06/2009 22:33 titled "Upgrade Error number 4 and Restore Error 1603 when going to OS 3.0 - Solved"
And turn off any antivirus and firewall software too, before doing so. And also click the Restore Button on the ITunes Summary page which seems to force the iphone into an update. Dont try using the Check for update button. Good Luck, Tony

  • Update iPhone from iOS 5.1.1 to iOs 6.1.3?

I have been wary about updating my iPhone 4 from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 6 (now 6.1.3) because of all of the grief I'm hearing about iOS6 and succeediing updates.  My iPhone works fine, no issues.  It seems to me that I should just "stand pat" until this thing works itself out.  Does that make sense or am I missing something here?

Up until I updated my iPhone 5 with the version of 6 that was supposed to address wifi issues, I also had never had a problem, and did not know anyone who did.  It is true that there is a small percentage of users who have problems with each update.  I waited on updating my 4 to 5.1 because some small number of people lost wifi with that update.  I finally bit the bullet and had no problems.  However, after updating my iPhone 5 with the update specifically for iPhone 5 wifi problems, I had what now seems to be the fairly common problem (among the still small percentage of users affected) of losing internet access when more than 5 feet from my home router.  The wifi connection appeared to be fine, but no input or output. Public wifi was fine.  Apple replaced the phone for me at the store, after I had jumped through a few unpleasant hoops.  I have not updated my OS again, though I will do so soon, when I know I have time to go back to the Apple store if necessary.  I've been reading about problems with iOS 6 updates since that OS came out, and I do believe there are more problems with it, re wifi and battery life/overheating than I have seen with previous OS's.  I have also not updated my iPad 2 and iPad mini yet, but intend to do it before my warranty is up.
It's really a personal decision, but there are definite, though small risks, involved.

  • Problem updating iphone software version 4.3.3

Every time I have tried to update the iphone software when prompted by itunes it crashes, sometimes at the end of the update sometimes before. It comes up with an error message every time. Please can someone help?

First thing I'd do is check that I have the latest version of iTunes. This has cought me out a few times. Other thing that I've experienced is a iTunes seems to think there is a problem with my USB socket, so I've tried another and it's worked fine.
But yes what is your error and error number?

  • Problem Restoring iPhone from iTunes

I tried to reset my iPhone 4 after successfully upgrade to iOS 5.1 but the screen prompt me to connect to iTunes each time I restart and reset my iphone.
Just to inform that i'm on stable wifi broadband internet connection and can access other website or download other heavy files such as Quicktime trailers, etc.
I'm curious to know why the error 'The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The network connection could not be established' when my internet connection here works fluid and fast and able to access other websites, gmail, youtube, etc.
I tried reset my phone many times but the screen 'connect USB to iTunes'. Truly appreciate your kind assistance and expert help. Thank you in advance.

I found a solution to this. Apparently i'm not the only one who have this issue but everyone else, due to heavy connection traffic on the iOS upgrade.
Just change your DNS from your network setting in your Mac:
Below is the way to do it on your Mac or iPhone/iPad
This has solved loads of people who have this issue and have used an alternate DNS setting.  Below are instructions for both iPhone OTA and on you Mac
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try an OTA (over the air update)
    Change DNS Servers
    Settings -> Wi-Fi
Click the blue arrow on your connected network
Delete everything in DNS and replace it with 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Try again
If this works, you will probably want to remove the WiFi network using "Forget This Network" and then reconnect to it to get your original DNS servers back. Alternatively, make a note of the original DNS servers before deleting them and replace it after you are done.
If you are getting the error message "Unable to check for update" when you try through iTunes
    On your Mac
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network.
Select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet, unless you named it something else) from the list, and then click Advanced.
Click DNS, and then click Add at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 address for the DNS server.
    You can use OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    or
You can Google Public DNS if you want
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

  • HT201210 Error when updating iPhone from 5.1.1 to iOS 6.0

When I tried to update my iPhone software from 5.1.1 to iOS6, it said there was an error.  Then it said I needed to restore my iPhone.  I pushed update and restore, and it keeps giving me an error.  My iPhone is essentially wiped out and not usable because it shows iTunes with the cord logo on my phone.  I've tried this several times to restore.  What do I do?
