Problem updating itunes to 10.7 on PC with Vista

Hello,
I have a PC with Vista.
I have an Iphone 4 which I recently downloaded new Ios6 (?) op.system.
Now my iphone will not connect with itunes unless I update new version of itunes.
I currently have 10.6. It wants 10.6.3 or greater.
I followed intructions in itunes, went to help - check for updates. Did that. Clicked update newer version of itunes.....nothing happens. Box goes away an that's it.
After doing that all afternoon thinking it just needed time I decided to be proactive. Uninstalled Quicktime (heard that might work) nope. Turned off Norton AV (no luck).
When I go back to update procedure, in the update box it says to go to itunes.com for update. When I go there, the big download 10.7 itunes is there. Should I just do that if I already have itunes on my computer???
Not sure what to do. Hope this makes sense!!
Any assistance appreciated. Thx

Yeah, with that one I'd try updating your iTunes using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Updating to 10.7.0.21 using an iTunesSetup.exe or iTunes64Setup.exe shouldn't touch your content. By way of an example, I updated to 10.7.0.21 using an iTunes64Setup.exe and didn't lose anything.
(That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times, in case of disasters of any sort.)

Having Problems Updating iTunes 10.6.3, it wont update when I click the download button to update the itunes. What should I do to fix the issue? And does Anyone esle have this problem?

Just want to update the problem everybody is having downloading  the new update.  If you waited, and didn't try to reinstall or anything, it looks like a "fix" is coming to you.  My previous ITunes was working fine so I decided to just wait it out and see if Apple would fix it. Knew it wasn't my computer because of all the same questions in this forum.  And I want to let all to know that when I signed on to my computer today an Apple Software Update window popped up on my desktop.  (Not the little one we've all been clicking on from the ITunes screen.). This came up right on my desktop.  I clicked on it to download and it worked like a charm.  After it was done downloading I pulled up ITunes and all looked great, all my purchases, songs were still there.  I then plugged in my IPod and then my IPad and they both synced, etc., ....all is well again!  So it you didn't try to re-install or anything, and have just been waiting and using your current version of ITunes, be patient.  Looks like the fix will be coming to you, too.

  • Ever since I updated iTunes my iPods will not sync with my cars

Ever since I updated iTunes my iPods will not sync with my cars.I have a 30g and 60g 5th gen iPods that I use in my two car. In my cars I have a dealer installed integration module so that I can navigate my I pods play list artist and song titles using the radio itself. Ever since that last iTunes update 7.3.1. I no longer am able to use this feature. I used my sister’s 30g iPod that she did has not updated and the system works fine. Can someone help me with this problem.

I have had an Alpine head unit in my car with the ipod connection for about a year and it has worked fine until recently. Now I get an error message on the ipod that reads, "The currently attached accessory is not supported by this ipod." I have tried connecting a buddy's ipod to my car stereo, and his still works fine with it. I've done the 5 R's, tried going back to an older version of itunes as Alpine suggested. My next step will be going to the Apple store with an appointment, seeing what they say.

as ar as I know, voicemails aren't stored on your iPhone, your carrier saves them.

  • After installing iTunes 8.1 on a PC with Vista,,,, will not boot

After installing iTunes 8.1 on a PC with Vista. The computer will not boot up. It Start to boot up and hang up and never completely boots up.

I also have the Mcaffe security centre so on the face of it we have very similar situations and I had not problems.
You asked what I meant about saving the installer on your PC.
When you go to the iTunes download page:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
And click on download, you should be offered the choice of running the installer or saving it. You need to click on save and then choose a folder on you PC where you want it saved. But I think you already did that.
After the installer file - iTunessetup.exe - is save on your computer, you double click on it to run it.
It's very odd that the installer fails at different stages. usually when the installation fails, it is at a specific stage and usually generates an error message.
I am afraid I am mystified. Have you had any other problems with your PC which might suggest a general problem not specific to iTunes?
The only other suggestion I have is to download a fresh copy of the installer - in case it got corrupted. You could also try using "run as administrator" to run the installer. It should be an option if you right click on the installer file.
The other thing it might be worth trying is to install it from another account, but you would need to create another administrator account if you don't a;ready have one. Or if you have another account that is not an admin account, you can temporarily promote it from the control panel>>User accounts.

  • Problem updating itunes to 10.7

Hi im having a problem updating my itunes from 10.6.3.25 to 10.7. Basically if im updating using the the apple software update it finishes downloading and when it gets to verifying the file i get a error message that says ' "ITunes" has an invalid signature. It will not be installed'. Ive also downloaded the file manually from the apple site and when i click on it to install, both normal and run as admin, it doesnt do anything. You see a wee loading bar for literally a second at most and then it disapears. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Mmm... it gets worse.  At about the fifth attempt it appeared to install okay but when I restarted my PC I got the error message
"iTunes was not properly installed.  If you want to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes."
Running diagnostics suggests there's something wrong with the CD Drive connectivity although it seems to be working okay.
I tried to restore to a previous version, but that seems to have thrown up other error messages.
Guess I'll have to reinstall.  What a pain.

  • Problem Updating iTunes 10 to 10.5

I need help! I keep trying to update iTunes on my Windows Vista and every time during the installation a note comes up and says"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run". I just got an iPod(4th Gen) and I need an updated version for it to work. I dont know if it is Windows or the iTunes setup. Please help me.

Purple-Gecko...all that I can say is, "Boom!!!"  You are THE man/woman, whichever the case may be.
The "netsh winsock reset" command worked like a charm for my machine (running Windows XP SP3).  I have had two weeks of frustration with this issue and finally found your post which got me back online with the iTunes store.  My problem accessing the iTunes store began once I downloaded and installed iTunes 10.5 in preparation to upgrade to OS5.  Once 10.5 was installed, I could open iTunes and access everything except the store (which prevented any of my devices from being able to sync). I followed all of the suggestions that I could find in Apple Support and the suggestions that I was emailed from Apple's support techs.  I unistalled all Apple software and reinstalled iTunes multiple times, and still could not access the store.
Your suggestion is the only "cure" that I have found.
I thank you, my iPod thanks you, and my iPhone 4 thanks you for taking the time to post this fix.

  • Problem updating iTunes to 8.2 under all OS user accounts

I'm posting this for my brother.
Background: He has an iMac setup with multiple user accounts similar to how I have mine: Administrator, Parents and a separate account for each child. He recently updated iTunes to version 8.2 while logged into his (Parent) account using Admin privileges. I perform my app/OS updates this way as well and any app update is reflected in the respective app under each account. They share a common iTunes Music Store account but keep separate libraries and music folders.
Problem: After his son updated his iPod touch to 3.0, iTunes blocked the first sync indicating he needed to update iTunes to the latest version. When he checked to see what version his iTunes was under his account, it showed version 8.0. He performed a software update, iTunes 8.2 showed up so he downloaded it and, after admin credentials were entered, he installed the update. No luck. Still 8.0. He did that a couple times with no success. Since then, I've had him restart, trash pref files, and download the full update from the Apple website but nothing has worked. His iTunes still shows as version 8.0 even though all other user accounts on their iMac shows version 8.2 and he can't sync his iPod.
I don't believe OS X installs multiple instances of an app for user account purposes so I'm truly baffled by this. Should I uninstall iTunes in his user account? Under the Parent account? Which account "owns" the iTunes app? Is there some other way to get it to update?
I've searched the forums and Googled the issue and I can't find a similar issue anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

We did that as well. They can only find one version of iTunes in the Applications Folder. "Get Info" on the main account shows version 8.2 yet a "Get Info" on the kids account shows version 8.0. Performing an upgrade check from within the kids accounts finds the 8.2 updater and after running it, it indicates that the upgrade was successful. Once the upgrade is applied, the version still remains at 8.0.
Has no one else encountered this? I'm afraid to uninstall iTunes in the kids accounts because I don't know what it will do to the main iTunes.

  • Problem updating iTunes 8.0.0 to 8.0.1

When trying to update iTunes on my Windows XP systems - a ThinkPad and ThinkCentre - both halt the install with the message that:
"There is a problem with the installer package on this machine." and it rolls back what it has done to that point.
I've not had this problem before and 8.0.0 is running fine.
I don't know how to "repair" or attempt to "repair" my Windows Installer.
Anyone seen this before? Is there another way to initiate an install/update?
I'm hesitant to uninstall iTunes first as it may not successfully install clean with this 8.01 install package.
I do this by saving the iTunes installer completely on my disk and then running it - rather than run from the download dialog.

Found solution involving repair of Apple Update Software - run msi file and request repair

  • Problem Updating iTunes 7 on external hardrive

My iTunes App is on my external hardrive, containing all of my music, videos, pictures, and other files. I just recently updated my iTunes to the latest version. The app automatically tries to open it from my main hardrive. So, when it opens it shows I have no files whatsoever in iTunes because it's trying to open it from my main hardrive and everything is stored on the external hardrive, including the older version of iTunes. I've tried just deleting it from the main hardrive and reading it form the external, but it still opens from there. The space the file takes up is about 62 GB. but the free space on my main hardrive is about 54 GB. so, it's not like I can just swap things around. Is there anyway I can redirect the program to always open from my external hardrive? or any other solution to fix this problem? might I add that the last time I updated iTunes, I didn't have this problem.

keep your iTunes folder on your external drive.
When you re-open itunes next time, press option until a window pops up,
asking you to select your library.
[this is a way to keep and manage multiple libraries]
    select the itunes folder.
this should load your library correctly.
if you did not yet - don't upgrade to itunes 7.2.
