Problem using CTXXPATH index

Hi all,
i'm using Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 on Windows.
I created this table
create table PERSISTENT_COMPOSITION
  COMPOSITION_ID NUMBER(19) not null,
  XML_CONTENT    SYS.XMLTYPE not null,
)and filled it with more or less 1.000.000 records (that si 1.000.000 xml document loaded into XML_CONTENT).
Then first of all i tested it with a simple query just like the following:
SELECT *
  FROM PERSISTENT_COMPOSITION t
WHERE existsNode(t.xml_content, '/composition/archetype_details/archetype_id[value="openEHR-EHR-COMPOSITION.composition_test.v1"]') = 1;obtaining the expected result: 50,000 records found.
Now, in order to improve query performances, i created a CTXXPATH index as follows:
CREATE INDEX IDX#COMP_CTXXPATH ON PERSISTENT_COMPOSITION(XML_CONTENT) INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CTXXPATH;Then i tested the new performances using exactly the same query shown above...and here comes the problem: the query returns NO RESULT! No record was found! I looked at the query execution plan and it uses the created index IDX#COMP_CTXXPATH...but no record could be found...
I thought it could be a matter of namespace: in fact loaded xml documents have a xmlns set and so i changed the query as follows:
SELECT *
FROM persistent_composition t
WHERE existsNode(t.xml_content,
                  '/composition/archetype_details/archetype_id[value="openEHR-EHR-COMPOSITION.composition_test.v1"]',
             'xmlns="http://this.is.an.xmlns.url.org/v1"') = 1and surprise: i obtained my 50,000 results just like before BUT, looking at the query execution plan, the IDX#COMP_CTXXPATH index HASN'T BEEN USED!!!
I really don't understand why using the IDX#COMP_CTXXPATH i get no result....can someone help me?
Thank you very much
P.S: i tried using ANALYZE (both on index and on table), CTX_DDL.sync_index and CTX_DDL.optimize_index but got no result..

Besides following Mark's advice, and I could be mistaken regarding this in combination with domain indexes, you should NOT use ANALYZE anymore in a Oracle 10 environment. Instead use DBMS_STATS. Its more flexible.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_4005.htm#SQLRF01105
Note:
Do not use the COMPUTE and ESTIMATE clauses of ANALYZE to collect optimizer statistics.
These clauses are supported for backward compatibility.
Instead, use the DBMS_STATS package, which lets you collect statistics in parallel,
collect global statistics for partitioned objects, and fine tune your statistics collection
in other ways. The optimizer, which depends upon statistics, will eventually use only
statistics that have been collected by DBMS_STATS.
See PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference for more information on the
DBMS_STATS package. You must use the ANALYZE statement (rather than
DBMS_STATS) for statistics collection not related to the cost-based optimizer, such as:
- To use the VALIDATE or LIST CHAINED ROWS clauses
- To collect information on freelist blocks

  • Problem using byte indexed pixel format in setPixels method of PixelWriter

    I try to construct a byte array and set it to a WritableImage using PixelWriter's setPixels method.
    If I use an RGB pixel format, it works. If I use a byte-indexed pixel format, I get an NPE.
    The stride etc should be fine if I'm not mistaken.

    You have found a platform bug, file it against the Runtime project at => http://javafx-jira.kenai.com with your sample code and a link back to this forum question.
    Byte indexed pixel formats seem like a feature which was never completely (or perhaps even hardly at all) implemented to me.
    The PixelFormat type your failed case is using is (PixelFormat.Type.BYTE_INDEXED):
    PixelFormat<ByteBuffer> byteIndexedFormat = PixelFormat.createByteIndexedInstance(colorPalette);
    System.out.println(byteIndexedFormat.getType());These are the valid PixelFormat types =>
    http://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/api/javafx/scene/image/PixelFormat.Type.html
    BYTE_BGRA
    The pixels are stored in adjacent bytes with the non-premultiplied components stored in order of increasing index: blue, green, red, alpha.
    BYTE_BGRA_PRE
    The pixels are stored in adjacent bytes with the premultiplied components stored in order of increasing index: blue, green, red, alpha.
    BYTE_INDEXED
    The pixel colors are referenced by byte indices stored in the pixel array, with the byte interpreted as an unsigned index into a list of colors provided by the PixelFormat object.
    BYTE_RGB
    The opaque pixels are stored in adjacent bytes with the color components stored in order of increasing index: red, green, blue.
    INT_ARGB
    The pixels are stored in 32-bit integers with the non-premultiplied components stored in order, from MSb to LSb: alpha, red, green, blue.
    INT_ARGB_PRE
    The pixels are stored in 32-bit integers with the premultiplied components stored in order, from MSb to LSb: alpha, red, green, blue.As the native pixel format for a WritableImage is not the same as the pixel format you are using, the JavaFX platform needs to do a conversion by reading the pixels in one format and writing them in another format. To do this it must be able to determine a PixelGetter for your PixelFormat (the PixelGetter is an internal thing, not public API).
    And here is the source the determines the PixelGetter for a given PixelFormat type:
    http://hg.openjdk.java.net/openjfx/8/master/rt/file/06afa65a1aa3/javafx-ui-common/src/com/sun/javafx/image/PixelUtils.java
    119     public static <T extends Buffer> PixelGetter<T> getGetter(PixelFormat<T> pf) {
    120         switch (pf.getType()) {
    121             case BYTE_BGRA:
    122                 return (PixelGetter<T>) ByteBgra.getter;
    123             case BYTE_BGRA_PRE:
    124                 return (PixelGetter<T>) ByteBgraPre.getter;
    125             case INT_ARGB:
    126                 return (PixelGetter<T>) IntArgb.getter;
    127             case INT_ARGB_PRE:
    128                 return (PixelGetter<T>) IntArgbPre.getter;
    129             case BYTE_RGB:
    130                 return (PixelGetter<T>) ByteRgb.getter;
    131         }
    132         return null;
    133     }As you can see, the BYTE_INDEXED format is not handled and null is returned instead . . . this is the source of your NullPointerException.

  • Use of Index, Histograms, etc

    Hi all,
    We're using Oracle 9.2.04.
    I have a table with 500000 rows.
    So I have a query that returns only 30242 for a month, like:
    SELECT * FROM T1
    WHERE TO_CHAR(DT, 'MM/YYYY') = TO_CHAR(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE, -1), 'MM/YYYY')
    I have a index for this column:
    CREATE INDEX IND_T1_DT_FMT ON T1 (TO_CHAR(DT, 'MM/YYYY'))
    TABLESPACE TBS_SOME_USER;
    There are statistics for this table.
    Looking the table data, I have the following distribution:
    Qty     MON/YY  %
    1         Feb-09     0.000219142
    99         Apr-09     0.021695016
    38439     May-09     8.42358314
    98231     Jun-09     21.52649641
    1         Jul-06     0.000219142
    139959     Jul-09     30.6708362
    1         Aug-02     0.000219142
    1         Aug-07     0.000219142
    141362     Aug-09     30.97829184
    30242     Sep-09      6.62727962
    7990              1.750941213But when a perform the query (that returns 30242 rows - 6.63% of table):
    SELECT * FROM T1
    WHERE TO_CHAR(DT, 'MM/YYYY') = TO_CHAR(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE, -1), 'MM/YYYY')
    Oracle uses FTS:
    0 SELECT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=432 Card=45633 Bytes
    =3011778)
    1 0 TABLE ACCESS (FULL) OF 'T1' (Cost=432 Card=45633 Bytes
    =3011778)
    So, Oracle should not use the index in this case?
    Is there any way to gather statistics for this table with a index based function?
    Something like this:
    EXECUTE DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS(ownname => 'U1',
    tabname => 'T1', method_opt => 'FOR COLUMNS TO_CHAR(DT, ''MM/YYYY'')',
    cascade => true, degree => 4);
    How can I create histograms for this case?
    Or other solution, like Partition?
    thank you very much!!!!

    Always treat dates like dates.
    This
    SELECT * FROM T1
    WHERE TO_CHAR(DT, 'MM/YYYY') = TO_CHAR(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE, -1), 'MM/YYYY')Should be more like this:
    SELECT * FROM T1
    WHERE DT BETWEEN TRUNC(ADD_MONTHS(SYSDATE,-1),'MM') AND TRUNC(SYSDATE,'MM')-1 ;Then you should index DT.
    But, should this query use the index?
    Touch and go at 6.63%.
    Give it a go using dates as dates and see if it makes a difference.
    Is there a problem with the performance of the FTS?

  • Error while creating the CTXXPATH Index

    Hi,
    I tried to create the CTXXPATH index on my table, which has XMLTYPE column. But while creating the index i m getting the below error,
    Error report:

    I m using oracle 11g version. Could anyone please help me in resolving it.

    Hi,
    you can have a look at document "How to Create a Context Index Using a Function [ID 1063279.1]" at Oracle Support. You tried to create a CONTEXT index using a function but a function-based index is not supported. Workaround given in the document is to use a Multi_Column_Datastore.
    CTXXPATH is deprecated in Oracle 11.1, better is to use XMLINDEX, see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28369/whatsnew.htm.

    If I run the same style of existsnode statment against a table directly instead of a view I am not required to use an extract caluse that has the same path that is used in the existsnode clause.

    Aman....I faced this issue with query and indexes was need rebuildWhat issue Osama-that query wasn't using index and after rebuild it did start using it? Not just that this reply is wrong , this is OP has mentioned that he has done already. Please note that index rebuild is not the answer when the query is not using the index. There can be many reasons behind it. Have a look at Richard Foote's blog where he explains all of this in a very detailed way and in many posts.

  • There are problems with quadtree indexing in Oracle 8.1.7.4 for Linux

    I have patched my 8.1.7 database on Linux to 8.1.7.4.
    All my spatial data were indexed using quadtree indexing mechanizm.
    After the patch is proceeded, I'v rebuilt all spatial indexes (because all they became invalid).
    When I use window query type, the spatial query does not give right results!
    There are no errors, but not all geometries following in the query rectangle are selected.
    My spatial data does not use projection (the SRDIDs are 262148).
    If there is layer with other srid - there are no transformation between projections query rectngle and layer geometries (the query rectangle is with SRID = null).
    When I change indexing mechanizm to R-tree - there are no problems.
    What is the problem?

    I don't understand:
    My spatial data does not use projection (the SRIDs are 262148).
    What is 262148? It is an SRID that isn't in the 8.1.7.4 database.
    If the SRID isn't an issue, you might want to make sure the coordinate
    system bounds of the geometries match if your data is coming from two
    different tables and they both have quadtree indexes built on them.
    If the coordinate system bounds don't match, then you can see this kind of problem.
    Hope this helps,

  • Accessing Tables using global index rowid is taking too long.

    I am using Oracle 10.2.0.4.0. I am having tables which are ~100+GB in size which is range partitioned on a date column and hash subpartitioned on primary key column. And accessing these tables using global index row id using idex range scan( size of those indexes are ~7+ GB) taking ~5+ mins which results in ~1000 rows as out put. So is this means there is some structural problem with tables/indexes or its something issue at block level? How to dig more into this issue?

How to dig more into this issue?once you get a chance to run the query and collect some diagnostic info, here are the questions that you should ask yourself:
    1) where is the 5 mins spent? doing index range scan itself, doing table index access by global rowid, waiting for something, doing something else?
    2) how many reads are there and what kind (logical, physical, direct path)? per the entire query and per index range scan
    3) is there any aggregation in the query? if there is, then 1000 rows output doesn't mean anything -- you could have to access millions or billions of rows to produce a 1000 row output in an aggregate query
    The best tool to answer these questions is dbms_xplan.

  • Fuzzy Lookup cannot use existing index

    Hi all,
    we have upgraded to SQL Server 2008 R2 from SQL Server 2008 and since then our fuzzy matching process has failed when trying to re-use existing index with the error:
    [Fuzzy Lookup] Progress: Warming caches - 0 percent complete
    [Fuzzy Lookup [9824]] Warning: Catastrophic failure
    [SSIS.Pipeline] Error: component "Fuzzy Lookup" (9824) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0x8000FFFF.
    Warming cache property is set to False though.
    Has anyone experienced the same error?
    When building a new index fuzzy matching runs without problems.
    Thanks a lot.
    Fran

    Hi Fran,
    The error may occur due to a memory issue such as the Fuzzy Lookup task consumes high memory buffers. Please try the following steps:
    Run the package in 64-bit mode by setting the Run64BitRuntime property of the project to True.
    Right click the Fuzzy Lookup task and click “Show Advanced Edior…”
    Switch to the Component Properties tab, and set the following properties:
    CopyReferenceTable: 0
    DropExistingMatchIndex: 0
    WarmCaches: False
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem using Mosaic Screensaver

    Like many, I find the Mosaic screensaver included with Leopard very cool. However, I have a problem using it and wonder if anyone has a workaround. First of all, my iPhoto library is on an external FW HD and has 25-30,000 photos. When I first tried to setup Mosaic, the test under System Prefs worked fine, but in the real world all I got from Mosaic was a black screen and a locked-up system. Sometimes I had to reboot to interrupt it. So I exported 1500 selected photos, disconnected the FW HD, and created a new, smaller iPhoto library. This worked great - Mosaic ran perfectly with no lock-up. Unfortunately, when I reconnected the FW HD, Mosaic started re-indexing and adding in the 1000s of photos from my original library. Back to square one.
    Does Mosaic have a preferences file or some other way to set a limit on the number of photos it uses, or to turn off re-indexing when it detects new photos? Anyone have a similar or larger number of photos and doesn't have this problem? Any other solutions?

    I guess I'm not making myself clear. This is not an issue with managing iPhoto libraries or albums. I've used iPhoto Library Manager, iPhoto Buddy, and my library has dozens of albums. I know how to select a library by pressing Option + iPhoto, double-clicking an iPhoto library, etc., etc.
    I apologize for not making myself clear. The problem is not with managing iPhoto libraries, rather it is with Mosaic automatically updating its database when it detects an additional source of photos. Let me explain again:
    I have one large iPhoto library on an external HD, and a small library on my main HD. I setup Mosaic using the small library and with the external HD detached from my laptop. Under these conditions Mosaic works fine. No problems. However, if I run Mosaic with my external HD attached, the screen goes black and the message "Creating Mosaic Database..." appears together with a progress bar. All of this occurs without iPhoto running at all. After a long wait the database update finishes and Mosaic will no longer run because there are too many photos in its database (I presume). THIS is the problem.

    Hi everyone!!!
    I am facing problem using Trinidad 2.0 components with facelets. I am using Tomcat 6.0 server , 1.6_20 jdk with jre6. I am using springsource tool suite as an IDE.
    My problem is regarding usage of facelets with trinidad component library. I am trying to run *<tr:panelTabbed>* component of TRINIDAD 2.0 on *.jsp* as well as *.xhtml*. If I run my jsp , I am able to used panel tab fully like switching between two tabs. Same code I have added in my .xhtml page in the same project under *<ui:composition>* tags. I am successfully able show the component on the screen , but I am not able to switch between the two tabs. Here are the list of libs that have added to the project.

    Hi gimbal2 ,
    thanks for your prompt response.
    I deleted jsf-facelets.jar from the lib.
    Also I removed      <context-param>
              <param-name>org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.ALTERNATE_VIEW_HANDLER</param-name>
              <param-value>org.apache.myfaces.trinidadinternal.facelets.TrinidadFaceletViewHandler</param-value>

         <context-param>

              <param-value>*.xhtml</param-value>
         </context-param>Now that error has gone .But I am still not able to switch between the tabs for .xhtml page but it is working fine for .jsp page.
    For .xhtml page , on clicking on the tab, console is showing something like below

  • Problems using RMI between linux and windows.

    I have problems using RMI between linux and windows.
    This is my scenario:
    - Server running on linux pc
    - Clients running on linux and windows PCs
    When a linux client disconnect, first time that server try to call a method of this client, a rmi.ConnectException is generated so server can catch it, mark the client as disconnected and won't communicate with it anymore.
    When a windows client (tested on XP and Vista) disconnect, no exceptions are generated (I tryed to catch all the rmi exception), so server cannot know that client is disconnected and hangs trying to communicate with the windows client.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for your reply.
    Yes, we are implementing a sort of callback using Publisher (remote Observable) and Subscribers (remote Observer). The pattern and relative code is very well described at this link: http://www2.sys-con.com/ITSG/virtualcd/java/archives/0210/schwell/index.html (look at the notifySubscribers(Object pub, Object code) function).
    Everything works great, the only problem is this: when a Publisher that reside on a Linux server try to notify something to a "dead" Subscriber that reside on a Windows PC it does't receive the usual ConnectException and so tends to hang.
    As a workaround we have solved now starting a new Thread for each update (notification), so only that Thread is blocked (until the timeout i guess) and not the entire "notifySubscribers" function (that contact all the Subscribers).
    Beside this, using the Thread seem to give us better performance.
    Is that missed ConnectException a bug? Or we are just making some mistake?
    We are using java 6 and when both client and server are Linux or Windows the ConnectException always happen and we don't have any problem.
    I hope that now this information are enough.
    Thanks again and greetings.
    O.C.
