Problem using default value of report parameter 1 to validate parameter 2 passed in to report

I am having a problem with an SSRS report using the default value of report parameter 1 to validate parameter 2 passed in to report (via C#) instead of using the value of parameter 1 that is also passed into the report.  Here are the
simplified details:
Using SSDT, SQL Server 2008 R2
SSRS report has 2 parameters:
P1 -- text, hidden, default value 'R1', ... front-end C# code can pass 'R2' or 'R1'
P2 -- text, allows multiple values, list of available values provided by stored procedure (sproc_list) that takes P1 value as a parameter.  Hence, sproc_list either provides a list for P1 = 'R1' or P1 = 'R2'.
List for P1 = 'R1' is 'A', 'B', 'C'
List for P1 = 'R2' is 'A', 'B', 'D'
Values for P1 and P2 can be passed in via C# to the report.
The C# front-end displays 2 report choices to the user, R1 and R2, where both choices call the same RDL; but choice R1 passes in 'R1' for P1, and the choice R2 passes in 'R2' for P1.
Upon a users 1st time use of the report no parameters are passed in.  Then when the user exits the report, the parameter value for P2 that was chosen is saved off to a file for R1 or R2, and used the next time the user selects the report.
Everything always works fine for report R1 since the default value for P1 is 'R1'.
When R2 is chosen and the user selects 'D' as the value for P2, runs the report, then exits, the P2 value of 'D' for R2 is saved to a file.  When the user returns the next day to run report R2, 'R2' is passed for P1, and 'D' is passed for P2.
This is when the problem occurs.  The value of 'D' for P2 is validated against a list generated for P2 based on the default value of 'R1' for parameter P1.  Hence, SSRS considers 'D' an invalid value for P2 and blanks out the P2 parameter.
The user can then use the drop down list for P2 and choose 'D', but this defeats the purpose of saving the parameter values to be used the next time.
Why is the stored procedure that provides a list of available values for parameter P2 using the default value of 'R1' for parameter P1 instead of using the value of 'R2' passed into the report for parameter P1?

Hi Tom,
Sorry for my delay.
If I understand correctly, you have two parameter in your report. It is a couple of cascading parameter. If we have choose ‘R1’ of P1, the P2 values is A, B, C. ‘R2’ of P1, corresponding P2 values is A, B, D. What your requirement is to save the end use
select option of these two parameters.
In SSRS, if we have configure the parameter with default value. When we run the report, the parameter will fill with the default value to filter data. If we want to save the last status we are render the report, we need to update the default value of P1.
If we are query the default value from database, if possible, we can
update the database try to resolve the issue.  Alternatively, we can set the dynamic default value for the parameter.
Hope this helps.

  • How to use Default value in a column in Tabular form in insertion or upda

    Hello,
    I am trying to use Default values so that user need not have to enter data, but when I select default type and put a default value, I see an error message, if I try to add a new row.
    How can I use a default value in a Column in a Tabular Form?

    Edited by: user1046395 on Apr 3, 2009 9:58 AM

    Gouri,
    You can just simply edit to each column's report attribute. For example,
    To set default date,
    Default Type: PL/SQL Expression of Function
    Default: sysdate
    To set default text,
    Default Type: PL/SQL Expression of Function
    Default: *'CLERK'*
    If you still have an error, what is the error message?

  • Report-to-Report Interface problem with default values

    Hi all.
    I have RTR interface where target query has default values, so when I jump to target query it doesn't return whole data because of this default filter.
    Is it possible to remove this default filter in query in case it is executed through Report-To-Report?
    I still need this default filter then I execute target query separately.

    Dear Gediminas,
    Make sure that you have same infoobjects which are having default values present in the 2 queries.
    After createing settings in RRI...select that setting.....click on ASSIGNMENT DETAILS tab...
    Assign Type as how they are in 1st query...
    Assign selection type as how they are in 1st query...
    Assign GENERIC to the rest of the fields..
    Cintinue
    Save.
    Assign points if it is helpful.

  • Multiple Default Values in a Multi-Select LOV Parameter?

    Hi,
    I have a report in BI Publisher standalone version 10.1.3.4. The report has a list of values called org_lov. This lov is attached to a multi-selection p_org_code parameter from which it is desirable to also have multiple default values.
    For example, if org_lov has the following values:
    100
    101
    102
    103
    104
    105
    106
    I would like to have 3 default values and have 100, 101,105 as the defaults if the user doesn't specifically select anything from the LOV. So far my testing has only allowed a single default value.
    Here are my settings:
    Data type = string
    Multiple Selection = checked
    Can select All = checked (all values passed)
    On the Default Value field, I have tried the following:
    1. 100, 101,105
    2. [100, 101,105]
    3. '100', '101','105'
    4. (100, 101,105)
    5. ['100', '101','105']
    6. ('100', '101','105')
    I don't need these default values highlighted in the LOV, I just need it passed correctly to the query (a data template).
    Thank you in advance for any input.

    Hi,
    Sorry for the delayed reply. I tried what you suggested but the problem is that by having the "Multiple Selection" property of the parameter unchecked, the result is that it allows the user to only have a single value passed. The user wants the option to select multiple values AND also have the multiple default values.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Table editor problem with default value for column

    Hi there,
    I'm trying to use SQL Developer 1.2.1 on Ubuntu 7.10 (though I don't think the OS is relevant) and I'm running into a snag when trying to update table structures. If you go to edit the table to say modify a column name, and that column has a default value set, SQL Developer is encapsulating the value with brackets and quotes. When trying to save the changes, it complains about the default value being 4 chars too many for the column width. An example of this would be a currency code column of varchar2 (3) set with EUR as the default. SQL Developer changes the value to ('EUR') hence the error.
    Is there anyway to prevent this from happening?
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Could you please be more specific? In 1.2.1.32.40 I
    added the column COL1 VARCHAR2(3) with default value
    'EUR'. The data display field refreshed to show the
    default value, so I edited it in a couple of entries
    and comitted the change without problem. Then I
    renamed the column from the "Edit table" popup menu.
    Finally, I renamed the column from the "Rename
    column" popup menu, no problem either.Ah, you are correct. That does work. What I was trying is select tablename in the object browser, then right click on it and select "Edit" from the contextual menu. You are then presented with edit table dialog box. If you then select a column in that box you will see a column properties box. In that section you can change the name, default value, datatype et cetera. Note that your default column value which should just be EUR (or 'EUR' to denote that it's a string) is now ('EUR'). Once you try changing the name to of the column to something else and then click OK, you should then get an error complaining of "Invalid varchar2 default value" with a more specific message of "Default values size 7 is greater than the allowed 3"
    You have provided a work around, and thanks for that, but it would be nice to edit everything in the Edit table dialog box if you're modifying more than one column name. I'm tasked with cleaning up a bit of a messy database, and there are a good deal of columns to be renamed.
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi,
    If you are going to use variable as one of the options then what you can do is create a package.
    Drag your variable on to the package and set or declare it.
    Then drag your interface on to the package.
    Now when you execute the package it should make use of the variable.
    Cheers

  • Using default values for a column

    Hi,
    I am using PL/SQL Developer, where for some columns in a table I've defined 0 as default value.
    After running some queries on the table (insert,update) I realized that all the columns that are supposed to have 0 value (default), actually have NULL value.
    Please advice about possible reason.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    You might have explicitly inserted a NULL value in those columns. Have a look at the below test case:
    SQL> create table test(a number, b number default 0, c number default 1);
    Table created.
    SQL> insert into test (a) values (10);
    1 row created.
    SQL> select * from test;
             A          B          C
            10          0          1
    SQL> insert into test (a, b) values (10, null);
    1 row created.
    SQL> select * from test;
             A          B          C
            10          0          1
            10                     1
    SQL> insert into test (a, b, c) values (10, null, null);
    1 row created.
    SQL> select * from test;
             A          B          C
            10          0          1
            10                     1
            10
    SQL> insert into test (a) values (20);
    1 row created.
    SQL> select * from test;
             A          B          C
            10          0          1

  • Using default values in INSERT INTO..SELECT..

    Hi,
    I like to do following insert in Oracle 10g
    INSERT
    INTO tab1
    x1,
    x2
    SELECT
    NVL(y1,DEFAULT),
    y2
    FROM tab2
    but oracle throws missing expression error. I don't want to substitute default values as it involves code change for any default value change. I suppose Oracle changes context to tab2 while SELECT, but is there any way to accomplishing the above INSERT?
    Edited by: ponn_raj on Jan 14, 2009 4:52 AM

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    DECLARE
      var number;
    BEGIN
        INSERT INTO test
            (col1,
             col2)
        VALUES
            (1,
             NVL(var, 0));
        COMMIT;
    END;
    /Also you can create the table and assign default values to the columns that you want. See [CREATE TABLE|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/statements_7002.htm#i2095331].
    From the link above:
    DEFAULT
    The DEFAULT clause lets you specify a value to be assigned to the column if a subsequent INSERT statement omits a value for the column. The datatype of the expression must match the datatype of the column. The column must also be long enough to hold this expression.
    The DEFAULT expression can include any SQL function as long as the function does not return a literal argument, a column reference, or a nested function invocation.

  • Problem with default value for Billing when creating Business Partner

    In Sales Area data - Billing screen we want to default a value for Price List Type when creating a Busines Partner.
    We implemented  BADI 'BUPA_FRG0030_UPDATE'  and followed suggestions from another thread :
    Defaulting Currency Value to 'USD' during BP Creation.
    But This only seems to work when you change an existing BP.
    If we use FUNCTION 'CRM_BUPA_FRG0030_SAVE' in the BADI this function is called again by the system when saving the BP and causes a dump.
    Also the UPDATE functions only seem to work when you change an existing BP and not when creating one.
    Any suggestions if we can use another BADI or other function modules/methods ?

    Brent,
    When I use the latest build 10.1.3.3.81, this gets generated:
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>defaultValues</property-name>
    <map-entries>
    <map-entry>

    <value>#{'#{jhsTypeConverter.stringToNumber['100']}'}</value>
    </map-entry>
    </map-entries>
    </managed-property>
    Which is slightly better, but still failing because the single quotes get mixed up.
    This should be generated:

  • Problem using default HFM URL

    Hi,
    I have installed HFM 9.3 on a Windows 2003 server and when I go t the default URL (http://serve/HFM) all I get is a blank page with 'hfm' in the upper left corner. IIS 6.0 is installed and set to allow .NET and ASP. I don't have any issues with Shared Services for user management.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Iain

    Try url http://servername:19000/workspace to run workspace and locate hfm through there. Of course you should first make sure that Reporting services components are properly installed and configured.

  • Allowing Default Values OR typed values in a SSRS Report Parameter

    Hello,
    I'm able to set a parameter while designing a SSRS report to use a list of values or I can chose to specify no values.  In the latter scenario when actually running the report the value can be typed instead of selected.
    What seems impossible is to allow (while running) the user to type a value but also having the option of using default values.   It seems if the options for default or available values are entered with information while designing the report, the ability
    to type values into the report while running it is taken away.

    Hi ebs_software,
    Per my understanding you want to know if there is any method to type the parameter values and also can select a value from the drop down list, right?
    Generally, by default, when you haven't specify the "Available values" you will able to type an value in the parameter input textbox, or you will not able to do this. For the field of "Date/Time" type when you haven't specify the "Available
    values", you can pick up the date from the calendar picker and also can type the value in the textbox.
    Thanks for your understanding!
