Problem using Express over Ethernet via Solwise Gigabit Homeplug

I am hoping someone can help me here.
Similar problem with Tandie (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12175903&#12175903). I have a Vista PC which has no problem at all to connect to my Express over ethernet. I use my Express to "Create new wireless" network and stream my itunes over ethernet, which works well if I have a cable connected to the Express to my network where my Vista PC is connected.
However, when I take my Express to another room and connect it to a Solwise Gigabit Homeplug and my other homeplug connects to my network I then seem to have problems. The homeplug works perfectly with my PS3, but my Express after about 2 hours itunes and Airport Utility is unable to find it. I can however ping the Express, but that is it.
Here's how I configured the AX:
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = unique name different to my Wireless BT Hub
Radio Mode = 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)
Channel = Automatic
Click the Internet icon
Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
AX Firmware ver: 7.4.2

Welcome to the discussions, Charles266!

Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address
This would be the correct setting if your AirPort Express is connected directly to a simple modem (a simple modem has only 1 ethernet port)
If you have the Express connected back to another router (it will have 3-4 ethernet ports), then the correct setting for Connection Sharing would be "Off (Bridge Mode)"
I can't say if this will solve your problem. If you continue to have issues, then test using an ethernet cable from the Express back to your main router. If this works well, then one or both of the powerline products is suspect.

  • AirPort Express over Ethernet lost the connection

I have an AirPort Express device. It's works well, if I connect it over WLAN. If I connect the AirPort Express over Ethernet via cable, then after about 15 minutes, I lost the connection between my PC and the AirPort Express.
Does I have to change settings in my router?

then when I try to switch it to extending
That is not the correct setting to use.
"Extending" is only used when an AirPort connects using a wireless connection to another AirPort router.
When the AirPort connects using Ethernet, you have to use the "Create a wireless network" setting.
It might be a lot easier if you simply start all over again and let the configuration "wizard" do most of the work for you. All that you really have to do is name the network, name the Express, enter the password and click Next.  Everything else is handled by the configuration utility.

  • Weird printer problem using Express, Vista and Dell

I have a new Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista Home Premium. I have a Brother printer hooked up to my Express. Set up printer via Bonjour w/o problems. Computer recognizes the printer and seems to send info to it. But when I try to print, it only prints the first few lines and then just stops. Won't print anything else. And if I try to print another document, it does nothing at all (doesn't even print the first few lines). Tried with an HP printer and got the same results. Have uninstalled and reinstalled printer many times with same results. Already downloaded updated drivers for printer.
Express works fine otherwise (connects to the Net, streams music from iTunes). But when connected to my old laptop that ran XP, suddenly stopped printing wirelessly (would print nothing at all). I wrote it off to computer problems at the time. Now I wonder if the printer connection on the Express is malfunctioning even though the rest of it is working fine.
    Help please -- anyone! Thanks.

  • 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge Power Injector - Using power over ethernet

Can I use power over ethernet to supply the Injector with power?

    Hi Mikael,
    Sorry, this will not work. Have a look at these specs;
    1300 Series Power
    Power
The access point/bridge receives inline power from the Cisco Aironet Power Injector (hereafter called the power injector). Dual-coax cables are used to provide Ethernet data and power from the power injector to the access point/bridge. The power injector is an external unit designed for operation in a sheltered environment, such as inside a building or vehicle. The power injector also functions as an Ethernet repeater by connecting to a Category 5 LAN backbone and using the dual-coax cable interface to the access point/bridge.
The power injector is available in two models:
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2 standard version (included with the access point/bridge)
    48-VDC input power
Uses the 48-VDC power module (included with the access point/bridge)
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2T optional transportation version
    12- to 40-VDC input power
Note The power injector and the power module must not be placed in an outdoor unprotected environment. The power module must not be placed in a building's environmental air space, such as above a suspended ceiling.

  • ITunes 7.1 doesn't recognize Airport Express over ethernet

Running iTunes 7.1 on Windows XP desktop. Immediately after update, iTunes no longer can see my Airport Express as a remote speaker (Airtunes over Ethernet).
Airport Express has the latest updates. Airport Utility has no trouble recognizing it by name. It doesn't have a password on it. The Airport is happily providing wireless for my laptop. It is my only WiFi base station, because I have a small place. It's been dependable for over a year.
I'm truly bummed, because earlier today I got a Griffin AirClick USB, and it works like a charm. I was looking forward to using it with full-screen coverflow in 7.1.
iBook G4 and assorted Win & Linux boxes   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes is on an XP PC

The problem turns out to be an incompatibility with Bonjour for Windows. A post by "f00fighter" over in the "iTunes for Windows Upgrade Issues" forum solved it. I quote him below:
    ******Quote***********
Looks like this issue is due to an incompatibility between Bonjour for Windows and iTunes 7.1.0.59 for Windows (thanks toonz!)
To workaround the issue you can stop the Bonjour Service by going to Start \ Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Services, then highlight the Bonjour Service and stop it. You might also want to set the Startup status of the Bonjour Service to Manual (or Disabled) to prevent the service from starting automatically the next time you restart you PC.
Note - this is only a temporary fix, and turns off the Bonjour service...so don't do this if you have other applications that rely on the Bonjour Service. A fix from Apple is needed to truly "fix" this issue.

  • Telephone line Extensions over Ethernet via SPA112 ?

I saw a recommendation elsewhere and on this forum suggesting the SPA112 coul be used to extend phone lines (same number) to other rooms over ethernet.
Here is what I want to do:
I have exsiting IP based phone service provided by a company called Talkit (Canada). Talkit provided at Grandstream Handytone 286 ATA and I connected a cordless Nortel analog phone to it. Works ok.
Now I want to put an extension of the same phone number into another room. I purchased two SPA112s to try to do this. I have established ethernet connectivity and I can see and configure both units.
I connetced one unit to the phone line that runs from the Handytone ATA to my analog phone to one SPA112 and a second old analog phone in the second room to the second SPA112.
I made the following config changes:
I upagraded the FW to the latest version on both SPA112 units.
    I set
    Register to No
    Use OB proxy to No
Make calls wo reg to Yes
Ans call w/o reg to Yes.
I was able ot get a dial tone on the second phone but when I dialed out to my cell phone I geta busy signal.
Another issue is that the SPA112 connected to the Handytone ATA seems to stay OFF Hook.
Please advise... or point to a document where I can read about how to set these up.
I am assuming that I do not need to register the spa112s to my service provider proxy bu that rather that two spa112s will simply pass the incoming and outgoing calls thru.
    John

    John,
Both the Grandstream Handytone and the SPA112 are what are called "ATA" devices. "ATA" stands for Analogue Terminal (or in some literature, Telephone) Adapter. That's to say that an ATA device converts from an IP-based voice connection to an analogue voice connection.
The port that you connect your cordless phone to on the Grandstream ATA is, technically, referred to as an FXS port. An FXS port provides dial tone and battery voltage on an analogue line. The compliment to an FXS port, is an FXO port, which expects to have dial tone and battery voltage provided to it. Both the Handytone and the SPA112 have only FXS ports, so they all provide dial tone and battery, and thus are not compatible to be connected directly together.
You would need a device (such as the previously mentioned SPA3102) which features an FXO port on one end of the ethernet connection, and one of your SPA112 ATA's on the other end of the ethernet connection.
If I'm understanding what it is you're trying to accomplish correctly (and I believe I do), there are a couple suggestions I would make.
First off, you can contact TalkIt, and explain that you wish to configure your own ATA device with their service, in addition to the one they provided you. They would need to provide you the SIP proxy and credential information for your phone accounts with them. You would then need to program that information into the SPA112 that is in the second room. As long as that SPA112 can get internet connectivity, it should be able to register with their call server, and you should be able to make and receive calls at the same number as the Handytone ATA, providing TalkIt will allow multiple registrations to the same account.
Secondly, you can contact TalkIt, and explain that you wish to have them provide you an additional ATA configured with the same users / phone numbers as your current unit. Some providers are less prone to provide you with the information required to configure your own device, but they may be open to you purchasing / renting an additional unit that they provide, and configuring it in such a way that it shares the same number as the original ATA device they provided you with.
Thirdly, you can purchase a SIP Gateway device, such as the SPA3102, which would provide an FXO port which you could connect to the FXS port of the Handytone ATA device, and then configure one of your SPA112's to make an IP connection to the SPA3102, and connect an analogue line to that SPA112.
If you're not overly familliar with IP Telephony, I'd probably recommend getting a second ATA from TalkIt, as it would come preconfigured, and you would only have to plug it in for it to work. If they're willing to provide you with the SIP information, you may be able to configure one of the SPA112's that you already have, and just use that to connect to their service. This would probably be the least expensive option, but would require you to perform the configuration of the additional ATA device yourself. The third option, which most closely resembles your initial request, would not involve TalkIt, however it would involve purchasing the additional SIP Gateway device, as well as perform all of the configuration yourself. I, personally, have not configured a SIP Gateway device before, so I don't know exactly how involved that configuration is. Configuring the SPA112 shouldn't be too bad, but again, I've never configured it in exactly the way you're describing, so I can't say for sure. I've only ever used them to connect to a full IP PBX, or else a Hosted service, similar to the TalkIT provided Handytone unit.
Hope this provides a little direction, and wasn't too confusing.

  • Problem using '--' on a variable via a pointer

    Hello.
I'm new to C (been learning just over a week now), so if you take the time to reply - please don't pitch the answer too high!
I've just finished work on my latest project - a Sudoku Solver. It only does simple puzzles, but it (finally) works.
Here's a basic run-down of what it does: a user enters the known numbers of a Sudoku grid, line by line, and the program assigns these to an array (if the number is unknown, the relevant part of the array is set to zero). The array also holds a 'possibles' value for each cell, which says how many numbers are still potential values for that cells (so, when the user's input is first translated into the array, this value will be nine for an empty cell).
A series of structs are then set up, one per cell, which hold various bits of information about each cell. The main things are the coordinates for each cell, together with whether each number (one to nine) is a possibility for that cell, and the total number of possibilities for that cell (which is a pointer to the 'possibles' value in the array, mentioned earlier).
The solving loop is split into two parts. The first goes through each struct, and determines whether the value for that cell is known or not. If it is, that value is removed as a possibility for each cell in its row, column, and box.
The second part of the loop goes through all cells and, if only one possibility exists for a cell, assigns that as the final answer in the array. The solving loop then continues until all cells are solved.
My problem came when reducing the 'possibles' value for a cell in the array, via the struct. My first attempt used this line:
    *mySudoku[j].possibles--
('mySudoku' is the name of the struct type; 'j' is a value (0-81), and 'possibles' is a field that points to the value in the array that holds how many potential answers there still are for that cell). In my mind, that code snippet should point at the address held in that struct's field, and reduce it by one.
After much banging of head against a wall, I discovered that the above code snippet wasn't doing the same as:
    *mySudoku[j].possibles = (*mySudoku[j].possibles)-1
Once I'd changed the code over, the program worked like a dream.
My question is: why aren't those two bits of code doing the same thing? I've obviously misunderstood something fairly basic, but I can't understand what.
If any of my explanation isn't clear, then please let me know and I'll clarify.
    Thanks for your time,
    Pete.

In a word, precedence. The first operation performed is the array subscript. Then the member selection via ".". Next is postfix decrement. The pointer dereference is done last.
You should probably use parentheses to clearly specify the order in which you want operations to be performed. I am and have always been virtually clueless about precedence. I always use parentheses to clearly indicate what I want to be done. Even if they are redundant, they still help to clarify the situation.
I would have written the above code as:
    --(*mySudoku[j].possibles)
I would use prefix decrement because I don't need the pre-decrement value. I use the parentheses for clarity even though they supposedly aren't needed with prefix decrement. I say "supposedly" because I really have no clue. I have been programming for 20 year and the only precedence I know is parenthesis trumps all (usually).

  • Any reported problems using jdbc over a WAN?

If im trying to connect to a Database that's on a WAN will I experience any issues in using jdbc to connect and execute queries to that database?
I know problems would come up if my wan network is slow, but has jdbc been able to handle long distance database queries? timeout values?

    but why?
is it because of security? If a company had a database with your personal info hanging out on the Web for anyone to query without any validation or security, how would you feel about it?
design pattern issues? It's just good layered design.
just doesnt make sense? Not in my opinion.
have u experienced/heard of any problems of
connecting to a database over a WAN and executing
queries? You don't say anything about who the client is. If the database is behind a firewall, outside clients shouldn't be able to access the port where the listener is running. Only port 80 should be open on that firewall.
So you either write a servlet that listens on port 80 for HTTP requests from a browser-based client OR you ask your firewall admin to punch a hole in the firewall and open up the port on which your database is listening for queries and use a Swing client.
If s/he agrees to do it, quit immediately. It means your company doesn't know anything about security.

  • Trouble getting PM G4 to connect to Airport Express over Ethernet

I was wondering if folks could give me some guidance on how to get my PowerMac G4 (older model with NO airport card) to pull an IP address from an Airport Express. I have the Powermac G4 and Airport Express in one area of my house. The Airport Express is setup as WDS remote on channel 1. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station in another area (setup as WDS main on channel 1) which is connected to my DHCP-enabled Linksys router. Both the Extreme and Express units are set in bridging mode. I was hoping the PM G4 (which is connected to the Airport Express via an Ethernet cable) would pull the IP address off the network (I have the G4 set for DHCP) but so far it is only pulling a bad IP address - not within the range that the Linksys router should be providing.
    Any suggestions?

A Mac computer or laptop.....with a sophisticated operating system.....will automatically connect to the wireless access point with the best signal quality based on its location in relation to the device producing the wireless signal.
So, if you move the Mac from one area to another, it will automatically "switch" to pick up the stronger wireless signal from the closest wireless access point.
Other devices....with simplified wireless software.....usually will not do this...and instead will tend to always connect to the first device with which they originally connected.
If you want a device to connect to a specific wireless access point, you might want to try deleting the current wireless connection on the device, moving it very close to the AirPort Express, and then configuring the device to connect to the wireless network again.
With luck, the device will now pick up the stronger signal from the AriPort Express. But, if it does, it will probably stay locked onto the AirPort Express if you then move the device back closer to the AirPort Extreme.

    Hi Jon,
You need to add the Expression_Source.llb file to your LabVIEW instruments directory. You can find the file attached or I got it from the Using an Expression Source to Drive Your SPICE-Based Circuit example program. I placed the file in my directory and it appeared on the toolbar in Multisim.
You could also check the directory is correct by going to Options>>Paths>>Miscellaneous>>User LabVIEW instruments path in Multisim.

  • Problem Using Flash FLV Video Via Dreamweaver CS3

I have been unable to get my FLV video to play on my website.
I seem to have two problems:
    1) I want the FLV file to be hosted in a different domain to
the website itself (for bandwidth reasons) and it doesn't want to
    do that!
    2) I would prefer to use Flash skins rather than Dreamweaver
skins as I want to offer a full-screen option but I cannot get them
    to work!
If I host the FLV file on the website domain, the video plays
ok. If I change the file location in the Properties of the movie to
become the FLV located on the other domain (using full path
    http://<etc>flv) then nothing
displays on that part of the page. Firebug tells me it has loaded
the AC_RunActiveContent.js and FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf but it
makes no mention of the skin file or the flv file itself ... it is
as if it just simply has not bothered with it! I suspect I am
missing something obvious but cannot find it. All help would be
appreciated. By the way, I have loaded up a crossdomain.xml file to
the root of the domain that hosts the flv file but that didn't seem
    to make any difference!
The second challenge is that ideally I would like to use a
Flash skin so that I can have a full-screen option and so that I
can have the menu bar under the video itself. However, I can't even
get that option to work when I host the whole lot on the normal
webserver! I am suspecting that it might be something that might
suddenly start working when I fix problem 1. However, if anybody
has any links to a page that provides simple instructions about how
to do this task I would greatly appreciate it!
    Many thanks for your help!

    1) Why not post your video to YouTube or Google Video and
    then embed the
code they provide into your website. This way their servers
    carry the
bandwidth for you and the scripted embed code will work on
    your site.
    2) If Video sharing isn't an option, and you need more
    bandwidth, you can
get domain hosting for as little as $4.95 - 6.95/month at
    Bluehost,
    Lunarpages or Web Hosting Pad.

  • Problem using N.A.S. (via smb) after update SL 10.6.6 (folder settings)

    Hi everybody,
after updating my system, Finder doesn't seem to remind my settings on a smb:// folder, in particular text size is always 0, icons are too small and so on... Even if I put back settings in the right way, next time I see all wrong once again. Of course when I was on SL 10.6.5 I didn't experience nothing bad at all.
    Somebody had similar issues? Thanks.

    Hi,
I have noticed the error occurs when I copy files from my Mac to any samba server (I run OpenSuSE on a Phenom-X4 and Ubuntu PPC on an old iBook-G3). However when I copy to a file share on a PC running Windows Server 2003 I do not get any file copy problems.
Reading and executing files from mounted samba shares or windows shares did not seem to have any issues.
For the moment I have relegated myself to copying files to a Windows OS running on a virtual machine in my Phenom-X4 and then logging into the VM and copying the files a second time to the samba share but I would appreciate anyone posting further on this issue. Because of my experiences I believe the issue is an incompatibility with the Samba servers after upgrading to 10.6.3.

  • Communicating using modbus over ethernet

I have downloaded labviews version of the modbus drivers. I looked at the examples that are there and it says to run the slave before you can run the master example. Is there a reason for this? I want to use the master example to talk to the machine I want to interface with. If there is an issue that I am not understanding with this, can someone point this out to me. Thank you for your time.
    Ron Deavers, CLD

The MB Serial Master Example VI requires you to have the slave running first so that you can have something to interact with. In theory, as long as your modbus device is running before opening the Master example, you should be OK. However I don't have a modbus device where I'm at to verify this. Have you tried just using the example with your device? If so, what's the outcome? Please let me know!
