Problem Using Flash FLV Video Via Dreamweaver CS3

I have been unable to get my FLV video to play on my website.
I seem to have two problems:
1) I want the FLV file to be hosted in a different domain to
the website itself (for bandwidth reasons) and it doesn't want to
do that!
2) I would prefer to use Flash skins rather than Dreamweaver
skins as I want to offer a full-screen option but I cannot get them
to work!
If I host the FLV file on the website domain, the video plays
ok. If I change the file location in the Properties of the movie to
become the FLV located on the other domain (using full path
http://<etc>flv) then nothing
displays on that part of the page. Firebug tells me it has loaded
the AC_RunActiveContent.js and FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf but it
makes no mention of the skin file or the flv file itself ... it is
as if it just simply has not bothered with it! I suspect I am
missing something obvious but cannot find it. All help would be
appreciated. By the way, I have loaded up a crossdomain.xml file to
the root of the domain that hosts the flv file but that didn't seem
to make any difference!
The second challenge is that ideally I would like to use a
Flash skin so that I can have a full-screen option and so that I
can have the menu bar under the video itself. However, I can't even
get that option to work when I host the whole lot on the normal
webserver! I am suspecting that it might be something that might
suddenly start working when I fix problem 1. However, if anybody
has any links to a page that provides simple instructions about how
to do this task I would greatly appreciate it!
Many thanks for your help!

1) Why not post your video to YouTube or Google Video and
then embed the
code they provide into your website. This way their servers
carry the
bandwidth for you and the scripted embed code will work on
your site.
2) If Video sharing isn't an option, and you need more
bandwidth, you can
get domain hosting for as little as $4.95 - 6.95/month at
Bluehost,
Lunarpages or Web Hosting Pad.

  • Flash FLV Video File

    I have a Flash Video on one of my pages. Also on the page is
    a menu selection to hide/show some layers. One fo the layers has
    the Flash FLV video and plays ok when the page is loaded. But if
    you select another menu item I want to stop the video from playing.
    I used the Shockwave/Flash object to stop it but that does not
    work.
    Here is the link to the site with the video file...

    Can anyone point to a KB or an example?
    Thanks

    Try this component:
    http://perian.org/
    It will allow flv's to play in Quicktime.

  • How do you get a link to open a flash flv video?

    I'm trying to get a link to launch a flash flv video. I need
    it to open only about as large as the video itself which is
    320/240(a little larger is no big deal. I don't want to have to
    embed it into a 1040pix wide page. When I link it, the video is
    blown up to 1040pix wide & just a little distorted!
    Is this possible/easy to do?thanx

    Go here -

    and look at the link to the video in

  • Broken Flash Video link - Dreamweaver CS3

    I'm using a Mac G-5, PPC, Dreamweaver CS3
    I cannot get FLV videos to show up on webpages. I've never had this prob before. (I currently have pages online which play their vids fine and were produced the same way I'm working it now.) I insert the video onto the page as usual, make the setting for "progressive download", "detect size", etc in the dialog box and hit OK. The video shows on my page in Dreamwvr as a Flash Vid but after saving and testing in a browser nothing shows up in 3 different browsers. I tested the page in Firefox, Netscape and Flock and nothing shows. In Opera the video player shows but will not play. In Safari it plays fine!  In Dreamweaver, in the "assets" window, when I select any of the 4 FLV's there, I get the broken link icon (jigsaw puzzle piece) showing in the window yet the vids reside in the same place they've always resided.
    The "AC_RunActiveContent.js" file is contained in the "Scripts" folder inside the "Files" window.
    I have a page containing videos which is currently published and they play fine in all tested browsers......however in Dreamwvr's "assets" window I am getting the same symbol that looks like the broken link (puzzle piece) there as well and NO changes have been made to those files and assets.
    Here's the link to that online page:
    https://mnbbank.com/financial_video.html
    I'd like to include a screenshot but I can't because the CSS, Tag & Files/Assets windows close when the screen capture software opens.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

  • .swf to .flv  using Flash 8 Video Encoder

    I have brought a .swf file in to Flash 8 Video Encoder to
    convert to a .flv file, after Queue is completed the .flv file
    doubles in size. I tried changing the "key frame placement" and
    "Date rate" to bring the file down but the .flv file doesn't go
    down that much. So what am I missing? I want a .swf 8,166 KB to be
    a .flv about half that size, is this possible? If so, am I using
    the wrong program?
    vicky

    well that's the thing - the metadata never traces out if the
    video was encoded with flash video encoder, but that code would
    work fine with video encoded with sorenson squeeze.
    think I have worked it out now though: in order to pause the
    video at start I am calling NetStream.seek(0) when I receive
    "NetStream.play.start".
    For some reason when I do this with flvs encoded using flash
    video encoder, it stops the onMetaData event from firing - but
    works fine with other flvs! weird... shall have to find another way
    of pausing the video at the start I guess.
    thanks for the reply though

  • Resizing FLV files in Dreamweaver CS3

    Hello,
    I am adding videos to my websites' "videos main page", and these extra videos are going to be added to the videos currently in the flash player. I have already copied the jpg preview picture files and the flv video files into my website directory. To contain the extra data, I have already added the appropriate number of <li>'s to the index.html file of the videos folder. For each new video I have also added an <img src="...."> line to the images.xml file. The images.xml file has information regarding the id, location etc..of every video in general. It is shown below.
    images.xml file:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <gallery>
         <album id="videos" title="CBET Videos" description="CBET Video Gallery"
         lgPath="video_gallery/album1/videos/">
              <img src="2g_robotics.flv" id="2g_robotics" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/2g_robotics_preview.jpg" caption="2G Robotics"/>
              <img src="clearpath.flv" id="clearpath" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/clearpath_preview.jpg" caption="Clearpath"/>
              <img src="medshare.flv" id="medshare" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/medshare_preview.jpg" caption="Medshare"/>
              <img src="nalion.flv" id="nalion" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/nalion_preview.jpg" caption="Nalion"/>
              <img src="mbetcommercial.flv" id="mbetcommercial" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/mbet_commercial.jpg" caption="MBET Commercial"/>
              <img src="ocecbetcommercial.flv" id="ocecbetcommercial" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/oce_cbet_commercial.jpg" caption="OCE CBET Commercial"/>
              <img src="bostontrip08.flv" id="bostontrip08" vidpreview="video_gallery/album1/videos/boston_trip_08.jpg" caption="Boston Trip 2008"/>
         </album>
    </gallery>
    The only issue that I have, is that the videos themselves display in the player at a much smaller size, than the container size. I bet you could fit a three by three array of videos in my flash player. The first four img src lines are the videos that play at the correct size, and fill the flash player container, whereas the last three img src lines (the ones I added) are the videos that do not display at a correct size.
    Is there any way that I can resize the flv files so that they fill the container within the flash player in Dreamweaver CS3? I primarily assumed that one can simply change the pixel dimensions (width and height) properties of the flv file itself, but apparently this is an issue regarding formatting in Dreamweaver. Online I found that one can specify pixel dimensions in the images.xml file. Does anybody have any ideas? Its probably an easy thing.
    Thanks to everyone for coping with these details, and any help would be appreciated greatly.
    kind regards,
    Mr.V

    Hi
    There are a number of ways you may do this, the first would be to use the scale parameter for the flash player content, but the problem you will find is maintaining the aspect ratio and if your flv's are smaller the degradation in the quality when 'enlarging', see - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14149.html.
    The second way would be to use a combination of actionscript and javascript to proportionally 'enlarge' the flv, again the above problems apply.
    Finally you could change the size of the flash player to fit your 'new' flv using javascript, but this method would in all probability present layout problems for your user, a small change would be o/k, but the size of change you are talking about would not. The design would have to incorporate a fixed size div for the flash player, and resizing the player would leave a large amount of white space.
    It is possible to do this using a liquid layout, but again this would cause problems with page rendering.

  • FireFox/Flash update, now streaming Flash/FLV videos do not play

    After upgrading to FireFox 13 and Flash, my FireFox no longer plays Flash/FLV or YouTube videos. Spending countless hours installing, reinstalling, searching on the web for resolution, I have to say that I may finally switching to a different browser. This is totally an inexcusable bug either on Mozilla's or Adobe's part. Streaming YouTube or any kind of online video is a must, without it, it's like the internet without search engines.
    I develop under 5 other browsers and all the other ones are playing the online videos without a hitch so I'm guessing it's not completely Adobe's error in this issue. Before anyone tries to send me the "try this.." I've tried them all....
    1. clear cache, cookies
    2. re-installled firefox 3.6.xx, 13 and even the beta 14 versions
    3. re-installed shockwave and flash plugins
    4. disabled all addons and plugins, starting in safe mode.
    5. turned off hardware acceleration in flash settings
    * I've pretty much given up, good thing I installed IE Plus so that I can actually run a tab in IE engine and that pulled up the video right away.... what's the point, might as well just use IE.
    Too bad, FireFox was "THE" browser, seems to me every new version that comes out from Mozilla, it gets buggier and buggier. This time I have to say, it's a doosie.
    Hope everyone is having better luck then me.
    Damen

    This may be caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update.

  • How do i play .mp4 files via Dreamweaver CS3??

    Hi,
    Using Flash CS3 the RTMP path to the .mp4 file is:
    rtmp://localhost/vod/mp4:sample.mp4 and it works fine to play
    .mp4's, mov's etc.....
    In Dreamweaver CS3 it wont accept any combination of paths.
    Unlike Flash CS3 which only requires the single String,
    Dreamweaver has two boxes that need to be filled in: The Server URI
    field and also the Stream Name field.
    Like FMS 2, where you don't name the streams folder in the
    url, Dreamweaver CS3 is looking for it ie the "media folder" which
    has replaced the "stream" folder.
    Where in Flash CS3 you have to use the convention
    mp4:sample.mp4, Dreammeaver will not accept anything.
    Any help here would be appreciated

    I assume from the silence that Dreamweaver CS3 has not been
    updated to handle Flash 9 player and streaming Video from FMS 3.0
    then.

  • Problem adding an FLV video to an actionscript 3.0 file

    Hi i'm new to Flash and I’m trying to add a 20 second long FLV video to an action script 3.0 file in order to place an animation over this imported video. The video is my dog running around and I want to animate a sprite in a layer over the top of this to make it look as if the sprite is chasing my dog. Is this actually possible? I’ve tried importing the video into the file but the video does not play it just shows one screen capture from the video when previewed for the entire time it is playing and when I try preview the video in a window of its own it cannot load it, it just freezes when loading (the program does not crash by the loading bar freezes).
    Any thoughts on where I’m going wrong or what I could try or if this idea is even do-able using flash professional CS5.5 and my laptop has over the capabilities suggested by Adobe to run the software?
    Thank you!

    Probably is the format in which your video is encoded, attempts to convert to another format.
    You can import the video to the time line, but the problem is the synchronization, that depends of the performance of the machine.
    Maybe the trick is export a flash animation (swf) and use Adobe Premiere to synchronization the video with the animation in a upper layer.

  • Using Spry how to stop Dreamweaver CS3 from Changing Code

    Hi
      I am using Dreamweaver CS3 to build/maintain a website www.ghoter.net. I started using Spry to insert data from an xml file as I need the data in the xml file to show up on several different pages, includeing the home page. The data in the xml file changes from time to time. This is working wery well. But I am having a problem with Dreamweaver automaticly  changing a line of code in the html files every time I make a change to the html file. The line of code that is being changed is in the head of the program.
    This is the line of code that is being changed: The xml's name is data-3.xml The date from the xml file goes at the top of the left collumn.
    The good code is:  var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("data-3.xml", "customers/customer",{distinctOnLoad:true});
    The above line of code is automaticly being changed to this below, which does not work:
    var ds1 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("data-3.xml", "customers/customer",<MM:BeginLock translatorClass="MM_SPRY" type="MM_SPRY_DATA_REFERENCE" orig="{distinctOnLoad:true}" ><MM_DYNAMIC_CONTENT DYNAMICDATA=1><MM:DECORATION HILITECOLOR="Dyn Untranslated Color">{distinctOnLoad:true}</MM:DECORATION></MM_DYNAMIC_CONTENT></script><MM:EndLock>);
    I can replace the bad line of code with the good code just befor saving the html file and the good line of code will be saved with the file and the web page works as it should.
    Any help would be appricated. Thanks
    Jack Burn

    Hi Jack,
    I think (not sure though) that the Library Item is causing the problem. I never use the Library Item because server side includes are far more efficient and need less maintenance.
    Have a look here http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/sprymenu/ssi.php
    If you have PHP serverside scripting language, use DW to add serverside includes using PHP.
    Getting back to your original problem, try without the Library Item and see if DW still changes the code.
    I hope this helps.

    I'm guessing that

    attempting to load that file and cannot find it.
    Did you upload home.swf and any other relavent files to the

  • Optimizing Processor Speed - Using Flash 8 Video Encoder

    I'm using the Flash 8 Video Encoder to convert .mov files to flv files. On my station I have the following:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: Mac Pro
    Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
    Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 2
    Total Number Of Cores: 4
    L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 12 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MP11.005C.B08
    SMC Version: 1.7f10
    I've got 151 GB available on my system drive.
    Presently, it is taking me approximately 2 hours 45 minutes to convert a 6 minute 26 sec mov to a flv with custom settings of:
    Max Date Rate: 300 kbps
    Frame Rate: Same as Source
    Audio Data Rate: 48 kbps (mono)
    500 x 333 pixels.
    HOWEVER, on an associate's computer he is able to convert under the same specs, same files, etc. in 1 hour 40 minutes.
    His computer specs are:
    Power Mac G5
    Processor Speed - 2.3 GHz
    2-CPU's
    L2 Cache - 1 mb per CPU
    Memory - 16 GB
    Bus Speed 1.15 GHz
    My computer has much more powerful processor, so we're confused why it's taking longer on my computer.
    I also have a second internal drive but presently the programs and source file are on my system HD. Someone suggested that I should try to make sure that the Video Encoder has max RAM allocated to it as well as having the scratch disk and cache set to the second internal drive. I don't know how to do this or even if it's possible but looking for advice and suggestions on how to better optimize the Video Encoder and would appreciate any help with this ASAP.

  • Difference between a Flash *.swf and a Flash *.flv video?

    What is the difference between a *.swf and a *.flv video?
    AFAIK both are Flash videos.
    Are they compatible?
    Is there a player (not from MS) which plays both videos?
    Peter

    Im guessing you're a complete newbie to all this, so in
    simplistic terms:
    - The FLA is the source flash file (the bit that contains all
    the design stuff and code). When you publish a FLA, it creates a
    SWF file.
    - The FLV file is a video which has been converted to flash
    video format.
    - A SWF displays anything thats been created within the FLA
    to provide things like a wizzy website, advertising banner or can
    be used to show a FLV (flash video) with added functions. Although
    it sort of points to the video rather than storing it inside (so
    the file is smaller and manageable)
    The benefits of using a SWF to play FLV's is that it displays
    at lot quicker. F4V's (another variance) I've now discovered,
    although are larger files, also display very quickly even with
    larger files.
    In terms of playback - do you want to view online or offline?
    to view online, you just need to make sure you have flash
    installed on whatever machine you're using - pc/mac.
    to view offline (from your hard disc), download the Adobe
    Media Player

  • Amazon Kindle problem using Flash Builder 4.6

    Is there a way to specify a version of Air 2.7 using Flash Builder 4.6?  This would be handy for getting apps accepted by the Amazon App store for the Kindle.  Recently, I had an app accepted into the Amazon App store.  However, the App needs to use a version of Air that preceeds Air 3.1.  The version that I was advised to use is
    Adobe AIR v. 2.7.1.1999.
    I tried changing the 2nd line in the prog-app.xml file from:
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/3.1">
    to
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.7">
    However, this change led to an error:
    "See details for more information.
      Namespace 2.7 in the application descriptor file should be equal or higher than the minimum version 3.1 required by Flex SDK. "
    I recall that there was a temporary workaround for a similar problem with the Blackberry tablet OS.  The Blackberry OS problem was later solved and the fix is no longer necessary.  Perhaps, we need a work around for the Amazon Kindle to force the Flash Builder 4.6 to compile a release with Air 2.7.1.xx?
    Any ideas how to make this happen?

    Hello,
    did you ever find a solution?

  • How to embed Flash .flv video?

    Hello guys,
    I am wondering, is there any way how to embed Flash video onto my web page?
    And regarding QT video template on iWeb's Movie page, can I drag any kind of QT ? Like H.264 QT for example, or is it just for Mpeg2 QT?
    Thank you so much for any advise.

    What is your video codec you are working with? NTSC (and PAL) DV is about 13 gigs/hr uncompressed. When you export your QT movie from your editing application and convert the file to flv you are compressing the video at that time with a determined bit rate and video dimension. quality and file size comes down to math. File size = bit rate x movie length. Quality is bit rate in relation to dimension. Surprisingly enough the recommended video encoder for flv is Flash Video Encoder application that comes with Flash. Sorenson Squeeze is arguably the best flv video encoder. Visual Hub is not recommended if quality and efficiency is desired. Flash Player is a browser plug-in that that allows web visitors to view Flash videos on your website from their web browse. Most already have Flash player installed and you can insert a script that checks to see if the visitor has Flash player installed and if it doesn't a window will appear informing the visitor that they are required to instal the Flash Player in order to view Flash content on your website. A URL is also provided to direct the visitor to the Flash Player download page. Insert this script into the <head></head> of your site:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function MM_CheckFlashVersion(reqVerStr,msg){
    with(navigator){
    var isIE = (appVersion.indexOf("MSIE") != -1 && userAgent.indexOf("Opera") == -1);
    var isWin = (appVersion.toLowerCase().indexOf("win") != -1);
    if (!isIE || !isWin){
    var flashVer = -1;
    if (plugins && plugins.length > 0){
    var desc = plugins["Shockwave Flash"] ? plugins["Shockwave Flash"].description : "";
    desc = plugins["Shockwave Flash 2.0"] ? plugins["Shockwave Flash 2.0"].description : desc;
    if (desc == "") flashVer = -1;
    else{
    var descArr = desc.split(" ");
    var tempArrMajor = descArr[2].split(".");
    var verMajor = tempArrMajor[0];
    var tempArrMinor = (descArr[3] != "") ? descArr[3].split("r") : descArr[4].split("r");
    var verMinor = (tempArrMinor[1] > 0) ? tempArrMinor[1] : 0;
    flashVer = parseFloat(verMajor + "." + verMinor);
    // WebTV has Flash Player 4 or lower -- too low for video
    else if (userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf("webtv") != -1) flashVer = 4.0;
    var verArr = reqVerStr.split(",");
    var reqVer = parseFloat(verArr[0] + "." + verArr[2]);
    if (flashVer < reqVer){
    if (confirm(msg))
    window.location = "http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash";
    </script>
    Then replace <body> with this:
    <body onload="MM_CheckFlashVersion('9,0,0,0','Content on this site requires the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. Do you want to download it now?');">
    Beginning with Flash Player 9 h.264 QT movies are now supported for playback. Simply change the file extension from .m4v to .flv to convert the h.264 video to Flash video that can be viewed from Flash Player 9+ on a web browser.
    hope that helps!
