Problem using iPod to backup files

Sorry to double post, but I just realized that I'd somehow managed to post this on the Mac forum.
Using WinXP Pro SP2, I connected my 60G iPod and checked Enable disk use. I then tried several times to transfer files to the iPod, but kept getting the following message:
"The disk in the destination drive is full. Insert a new disk to continue."
Checking the properties for the drive shows plenty of available space.
Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
Also is it possible to use other than the FATS format on an iPod?

How many things do you have connected to usb?
Do you have alot of drive letters in "My Computer"
Windows may be confusing the iPod with a network drive, try changing the drive letter

  • IPod Touch backup file

    Question!
    If I copy an iPod Touch backup file from my old computer over to a new computer, will the "restore from backup" option work on the new computer once the backup file is in place?
    Thanks

    It should.  Make sure your new computer is authorized for the iTunes account.

  • Where are iPod Touch backup files

    Did the location of iPod Touch backup files change with iTunes 8? Previously, I found them somewhere like this: Libraray/Application Support/Mobile Applications/Backup and they had extension .mdbackup But I can't seem to locate them now (I had to replace a lost iTouch recently).
    thanks!

    Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/ as the path.

  • Problems using CFFile to move files

    Hi there - I am having some problems using CFFile to move
    files from one directory to another. It only seems to only move
    some of the files in the group that I choose to move over, and
    there is nothing specific about which files are moved - different
    files are moved each time. There are no error messages that are
    showing up, so I am totally baffled. Has anyone else experienced
    this or does anyone else have any ideas on how to fix this problem?
    Any help would be much appreciated!! My code is below.

    First, an incidental matter. I don't think there's any need
    for so many try-catch tags. I would expect all the tags <cffile
    action="move"> to throw the same class of exception, and so
    would use one try-catch for them all. Even if you expect different
    exceptions to be thrown, one cftry tag might still be sufficient,
    if implemented as follows
    <cftry>
    <!--- code block 1 --->
    <!--- code block 2 --->
    <!--- ... etc... --->
    <cfcatch type="exceptionType1"></cfcatch>
    <cfcatch type="exceptionType2"></cfcatch>
    <!--- ... etc... --->
    </cftry>
    I suspect the cause of the problems lies in the dynamic
    values that you give the attributes. Perhaps incorrect values are
    passed for the source and/or destination values in certain
    circumstances. As A3gis has said, if that were to happen you
    probably wouldn't notice, because of the try-catches. Find a way to
    ensure that all the generated values for source and destination are
    correct.

  • Using iPod as backup?

    I just recently built a new computer, using the same hard drive i had but reformatting it with all the new components. I backed up all my files on the old version of the hdd, and i thought of using my iPod nano as a backup for all my music files, considering it held all of them already. This music in my iPod is all completely legally purchased, through itunes, in my name...however, after the reformat i cant seem to sync my ipod with itunes without clearing it out. I dont wish to clear it out, as i dont want to lose the music i already paid for. Is there an option to do transfer from my ipod in this situation?
    Thanks in advance
    Custom PC   Windows XP

    You can't sync your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
    iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    PodPlus Windows Only
    There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
    If you are using the iPod in manual update mode, your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased when you connect to an empty iTunes after reinstalling your operating system. However if your iPod is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual.
    Alternatively, you can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
    Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • Problems using iPod as mobile storage device - keeps disconnecting!

    Basically I'm having problems using my using my 4th generation iPod as a mobile storage device. I'm using a firewire connection to my PC running Windows XP to transfer files but at a certain point through the copy the ipod will lose the connection but the PC still thinks it's connected. This then causes my whole PC to lock up and require a restart. It's really quite weird as it never used to do this.
    I'm using the latest iPod firmware and have restored/restarted a number of times.
    Can anyone help me out.

    The iPod is formatted in FAT 32 for Windows. FAT32 cannot use files larger than 4GB.

  • Problem using ipod with itunes 5.0.1

    Could anyone help me?? I'm having serious problems using my ipod mini with my "just downloaded" itunes 5.0.1.
    it says that my comunication software with ipod is not correctly installed and that i have to reinstall itunes again. i did it the problem is always there. what can i do?? can someone help me??

    Man, it seems that iTunes 5.whatever has gotten us all a little hot under the collar. I'm back up and running...this is what I did...I hope it helps some of you out.
    1) created a new folder in MyMusic and copied everything from my iTunes library to the new folder. I then tested a few songs to make sure they still played (you never know)
    2) I deleted iTunes using the control panel selection Add/Delete programs. I emptied the recycle gin and then did a search to see that iTunes was no longer there.
    3) I went to filehippo.com to download iTunes 4.8 (my original disks are packed (Thank you to poster Allison for the filehippo.com suggestion).
    4) I copied all my songs back into iTunes from where I had stored them in the new folder I created in MyMusic)
    5) I connected the iPod Mini and opened iTunes and darn if it STILL didn't recognize the iPod
    6) I did a restore on the iPod
    7) I reconnected the iPod and had to reregister it and Voila! it worked again!!!!
    Whatever the new features were in ver. 5.01, they were NOT worth the hassle I've experienced over the past two weeks. I'll stick with version 4.8 for awhile.

    Anybody Know???

  • Where are iPod touch backup file?

    I need to location for the backup files on a Windows XP Pro because my computer is dying and I need to transfer it to another computer

    Apparently I have 623 backup files in that folder.
    Are you sure of that? How many folders show up at the top level of the folder 'Backup'? These will be folders with unique IDs for names (i.e. long hexadecimal strings). Each folder is a backup. Inside each folder are many files (hundreds or thousands) that are all part of that backup.
    iTunes only keeps one backup, unless you interrupt a backup (leaving a damaged one) or manually create one in iTunes (secondary-click device and select Backup). So, for example in my Backup folder there are three subfolders - one for each iPhone (two syncing to this computer) and one for an iPod Touch. This can be confirmed in iTunes > Preferences > Devices tab, which lists the three backups by device name and date (and the dates match the modified dates on the folders).
    If you really have 623 backups (i.e. you have 623 folders in the Backup folder and 623 backups show up in iTunes Preferences), you have something very odd occurring.

  • Problems using codeBase in policy file

    Hi,
    I'm experiencing problems using the codeBase option with the grant option in my .policy file.
    I want to start a 'manager' which has limited access to files. This manager starts workers (threads) who need complete access to... everything. I know I need to use the codebase identifier to separate those two groups of rights, but I don't seem to get the codebase right. The worker threads don't get any rights at all. The manager works fine (without any codebase definition).
    I've used full and relative pathnames, with and without '/-' or '/*'
    The file I use currently is (slightly truncated :), pathnames are package names:
    grant codeBase "file:com/response/timber/broker/*" {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
    grant {
    permission [..].FilePermission "manager.properties","read";
    permission [..].SocketPermission "localhost","connect,[..]";
    permission [..].FilePermission "com/[..]/jaxb.properties","read";
    According to the various examples on the Internet, it should work, but ofcourse it doesn't. Could the use of threat have any influence on the defined security?

    All I can say is I hope someone gives you
    (and indirectly me) the answer. I've got a
    serious problem granting special permissions
    in Sun ONE to a servlet and it's jars.
    One strange thing (to me), is that the format
    for the .policy file seems quite different between
    say Tomcat and Sun One. Things that work in Tomcat
    don't work for Sun ONE. But I thought the underlying
    vm et al was all the same! So did I... Why does
    this have to be so Opaque? Why different syntax
    platform to platform? Its all Java!

  • Problem using read from spreadsheet file and polar plotting

    Hi to all labview users,
    i am a beginner in labview and i am trying to do a polar plot.
    i read the polar plotting example in labview and it was straightforward.
    I used "write to spreadsheet file" to gather data.
    and they are in the following format
    13  10
    4  20
    8 30
    ....etc
    now. i tried using "read from spreadfile" to get the data into a array, then using "array to cluster" to convert the array into cluster, so i could connect it to the polar plot block
    however, it kept saying i couldnt connect that way, because polar plot uses 1-d array with cluster of 2 element and my source is a cluster of 9 elements....
    but doesnt the "read from spreadfile" block give me a 1-d array? and where does that 9 come from? i only have 3 rows and 2 columns in my data file....
    any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    thx alot

    Helllo,
    I've made an example to try to help you  with that question.
    Notes:
     - the file must have values separeted by tab
     - reading the values from file as you mentioned using "read from spreadfile" you'll get a 2D array and not 1D;

  • Using Aurora - bookmarks backup files (json) include the word 'undefined' ??

    At some point the automatic backup files began to include the word 'undefined' in the filename -- anybody know why??
    Example:
    bookmarks-2013-09-03_undefined.json
    Manually-created backups are named in the normal format, e.g. "bookmarks-2013-09-03.json"
    Thanks/jim

    Not sure what that _undefined is exactly, but the Aurora bookmark backup files are named different than Beta and current release versions are named. As near as I can tell the change came near or with the 08-22 Aurora update; one of my Aurora Profiles has '''_1411''' and the other has '''_7''' in the file name since 08-22 where yours says '''''_undefined'''''. My guess is that change is some sort of identifier for the Profile which generated the backup file.

  • Problem using iPod as encrypted disk for G4 Backup

    i have created an encrypted disk image on my iPod for backing up my G4 desktop folder. works like a charm. however, OSX limits the size of this disk image to 500MB when it is created using Disk Utility. that is unfortunate since my desktop folder is larger than that. the iPod has 14 Gigs of memory available and i would like the encrypted disk to be larger. is there any way to modify this limitation?
    many thanks

    In disk utility when you select "new image", it should give you the option, size, where you can select from various preset sizes or create your own custom size. Try creating the image you your local drive first then copy it to your ipod.
