Problem using new ABAP editor in GUI 7.20

Hi Guys,
I need some help. I am running SAP GUI 7.20 on Windows 7 professional.
When I open the new ABAP editor from SE38 it does not open the mouse pointer keeps rotating for ever.
I tried changing the setting to ABAP Editor old. It did work this time, I could open the ABAP editor.
I also tried uninstalling and re installing the SAP GUI,but the problem persists.
Please suggest if anyone has a solution for this.

Problem to use new abap editor and new abap debug.

HI experts.
currently using 640(patch 19) and GUI 640(patch 23).
but when I activate new abap editor in se80 server dumps error
' Runtime Errors MESSAGE_TYPE_X
The current application program detected a situation which really
should not occur. Therefore, a termination with a short dump was
triggered on purpose by the key word MESSAGE (type X).'
and new debug does not activating even though I switch to new debug.
it works well both new editor and debug if I turn on new options when I connect ECC6.0 with same GUI
guess 640 server has not propery installed new editor and debug or something has to be checked.
can anyone help me to activating these new functions?

Saving bookmarks in the new ABAP editor?

Hi experts,
either I'm stupid or something but I don't see how I can save my code boomarks for future usage. I mean the bookmarks which can be created by CTRL + ALT + number and navigation to them by CTRL + number.
The similar problem I have with saving my break-points set in the new ABAP editor.
Could you please give me a tip how I can save it I'm using SAP GUI 710 patch level 4.

New ABAP editor - opinions

I am interested to know other people's opinions on the new ABAP Editor and Debugger. I just started to use the new editor and I am kind of dissapointed:
- the code completion feature is a far cry from the Java editor. It shows only one element in the code completion list based on a strange rule (I think it is first in the alphabetical order, and then based on the previously selected item)
- it does not provide code completion for types
- the code completion dissapears after a short period of time (why isn't the code completion triggered on a CTRL-key ?!)

It appears that you are focusing on the code completion as the source of your disappointment. Let me brighten your day a bit by saying that the real code completion has not yet been shipped. In a future release of Netweaver, there will be full code completion very similar to what you have in the java area, where you will type a class name and get a list of methods to choose from. This functionality is not there in NetWeaver 7.0, but if you pay close attention when working in the editor you will see small pieces that will evolve into the full blown code completion. For example, in your editor type.....

After you typed the "o", there should have been a dropdown box with a bunch of suggestions to complete the statement. (This may not work depending on the gui, but it does in my system, NetWeaver 7.0 SP10, using Gui 7.10 Patch 1.
So again, you are right, the code completion is not really up to par, and never really claimed to be, but just wait, the real code completion is coming.

How to install new abap editor?

using GUI 7.10 you already got the new editor installed.
All you have to do is to tell the system you want to use it...
While in TA SE38 choose "Utilities" - "Settings" from the menu and check "Front-End Editor (new)". That's it.

P.S.: Keep in mind that the backend has to be 6.20 or later.

What level I need to get new abap editor front end?

I have next software components:
Software component: SAP_ABA
Release: 640
Level: 0014
SP: SAPKA64014
Software component: SAP_BASIS
Release: 640
Level: 0015
SP: SAPKB64015
But with these components, I have not the new abap editor at Tx Se38 -> Utilities -> Settings -> ABAP Editor
I'm using SAP GUI 710.
Can anyone tell me what support package level I need to get the new abap editor?

Ask your DBA'S or Hardware or Network administrator who hav the patches for the new GUI.
They will install/run at your system ,then u will be able to see the option in editor for
old frontend editor
new frontend editor.

Can't activate new ABAP editor

Hi everyone !
We recently switched from SAPGUI 6.40 to 7.10. I tried to activate the new ABAP editor mode but when I do it, the current screen freezes and no more action is possible from this point. My co-workers don't have this problem.
Old editor works perfectly well.
I'm using Windows XP SP2 with IE6.
Does anybody have an idea ?

With the new Editor, you can launch the code completion with the combination "Ctrl + Space".

it comes with support packages since 4.7 and GUI640 and is included in ECC600.
Use tools->settings to switch to new editor.

finally being on ECC 6.0 (coming from 4.6c), I enjoy using the new ABAP editor in SE37/38/80...
I wonder why the new editor isn't available within the Objectbuilder (SWO1)? Or am I just missing some option-button somewhere?!?

New ABAP Editor in WAS 6.40

new ABAP Editor was backported to WAS 6.20 and WAS 6.40, I work as ABAP Developer in ECC 5.0 WAS 6.40, yesterday I did request application of Support Package 17 to basis administrators, The support package was applied correctly yesterday night and System Status show me this information:

SAP_ABA 640 0017 SAPKA64017
I have SAP GUI Patch 19, but Radio Button "Editor (New)" still not appearing on my GUI. What im doing wrong? I must to wait to SP18 release for this editor?

No. For 6.4 the backported functionality will be available only on next support pack.

Sneak preview Was 6.20 and New Abap Editor

Hi to all,
i've just installed the MiniWas 6.20 on my home pc.
It works great (wowowow!!!) but ... i'd like to work with new Abap/4 editor (included in the NetWeaver Sneak preview 2004 's' Abap).
Is it possibile install editor (and use) on the miniwas 6.20 system? Is there a weblog/post that describes how to do that (possible a step-by-step procedure)??

Hi Andrea,
The only reason I could keep the 6.20 version is the memory requirement.
I installed 6.20 on 256MB, it was slow, but it was running. On 512MB it was quite fast.
7.00 won't work on 256MB, with 512MB is quite slow, with 1G it's OK.
Considering the default miniwas SP level, which is around 25 and the new editor would need 59, it would be a huge amount of work.
I'd suggest to save all of your work in transport requests and release it. Copy the data and cofile files to a save place and uninstall 6.20 and install 2004S/700. You can import all of your work back to release 700.
This way you would get a much more ABAP tool /6.40: Shared memory, Assertions and dynamic breakpoints, new debugger, Adobe forms, etc 7.00: New ABAP editor, Webdynpro ABAP, Enhancement Switchwork, Regex, etc /.
Never the less, I'd suggest to apply SPs on 700 as well, so you'd get the Regex demo toy and the New BSP editor and several cool features of the ABAP webdynpro /eg debuuger integration/.
