Problem Using Zoom H4 as an Audio Interface with Garageband

I'm new to GB and I am having problems getting started using my Zoom H4 as an Audio Interface with Garageband on my iMAC.
I'm fairly certain that I have the connection and all of the setting configurations correct, and yet I cannot get any sound from the H4 into GB.
I do see the sound volume registering in the Input Level window of the H4, but not in GB.
Here is what I see in my Garageband:
Preferences >
Audio/MIDI >
- System Setting
- Built-in Microphone
- Built-in Input
- H4 Audio IN (when H4 is connected to the iMAC via USB)
Of course I have selected the H4.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Operators standing by!

I don't have a H4 but do have a H2. Did you set the H4 as a audio interface, after you plug it in choose interface in the H4 screen?
Did you choose the H4 input channel in the track info?

I'm using Duet 2 Audio Interface with Garageband 09, when I connect my acoustic guitar to the combi jack I get a buzzing/humming sound.  How can I eliminate this?

do you have any thing plugged into wall power? Audio interface, computer, speakers, amp for the guitar? if so are they all plugged into the same power strip? if so, have you tried another outlet?
Altertively have you tried a diffrent port on the combo jack? Have you tried a diffrent guitar cable? Have you tried a diffrent guitar or audio input device like a mic? Is the device directly plugged into the combo jack, or is it being routed throughs some thing?

Using Tascam US-122mk11 as audio interface in Final Cut Pro 7. Works fine with Garage Band. Final Cut Pro won't use it. It appears in source menu in Voice Over Tools, but FCP won't use it.

This is the Final Cut Pro X forum. You are using a very different application. The Final Cut Studio forum, which is for the application you're using, is here:

Give exact details of your media and sequence settings. It would also be good to know what kind of drive you're using and how it's connected.

  • Can i use my usb audio interface with apple tv? For example Focusrite 2i2

can i use my usb audio interface with apple tv? For example Focusrite 2i2

Afraid not - AppleTV does not support USB audio devices.
I assume you don't mean using the device as an optical input for the computer, connecting AppleTV's optical out to it.

  • Looking for an audio interface with the following criteria

    -Firewire
    -At least 4 mic preamps
    -MIDI in/out
-Optical ("lightpipe") outs to the active monitors
Will I need to get a separate interface and midi or preamp box to get all this? Is there an interface out right now that satisfies these criteria?
    Advance thanks.

RME Fireface 800. Far and away the best sounding and most stable Mac inferface I've ever used. That includes 002, MOTU 2408, MOTU Ultralite and the M-Audio 410. Great pre's, great clocking and the Total-Mix software is unbelievable. I even use it as my main audio interface in Pro-Tools by sending firewire to and from the 002 and essentially using the 002 as a $ 1200 dongle.

  • Audio interface on garageband?

Pls how do i use an audio interface on Garageband. When i connected(voicelive 2) garageband rcognised it as the input source but no reception in the project. no signa from the source. I did all the sound settings on my mac already. Pls somebody help.

You can have the best or you can have cheap but not both. Good interfaces start around $80 and great ones can be several thousands.
I bought several items from sweetwater lately and really like them. So here is a link to usb interfaces. Any of the other big music supply store will have equal deals.

  • Recommendations for audio interface with new mac pro to avoid latency?

    Hi friends,
I have a new Mac Pro on order for editing video in FCPX, but Presonus says my older Presonus Firebox won't work with Mavericks and the new Mac Pro. Do you have a recommendation for a replacement?
I only use the interface to drive 2 powered expternal speakers and a headset, so I don't need something super sophisticated.
As I read about units, almost all come with USB 2.0 connections. But the new Mac Pro only offers USB, Thunderbolt 2, Dual Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI 1.4 Ultra HD inputs. If I can't find a fairly inexpensive audio interface with USB 3.0, I'd have to go through another connection to get into the Mac Pro.
The key for me is to make sure and avoid latency, a critical issue for editing video.
Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks. Duncan

    Thanks Mark and Smokerz,
Your point about USB2 working in USB3 ports is something I wasn't aware of. That opens a lot of doors for me. And I'll look into the Yamaha sound board as one possibility.
Thank you both for helping me.

    Hi,
One prior post discussing the use of Java 7 is:
SQL Developer 3.0  and Java SE 7?
There is no need to uninstall any Java version (except if you have disk space constraints) and no problem switching between Java versions. This may be controlled in the sqldeveloper.conf file in your ...\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin directory via the SetJavaHome line. For example:
    #SetJavaHome ../../jdk
    SetJavaHome C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.6.0_26
    #SetJavaHome C:/Program Files/Java/jdk1.7.0Regards,

  • The best audio interface with Mac Mini using new & existing equipment?

    Hi,
I got my existing set-up back in 2003. I'm now about to update it.
I've talked to Apple Technical Support re which computer is best for me.
Some important questions remain in terms of the audio interface or sound bridge I should use.
I've detailed below my existing set-up, my existing configuration, my desired set-up (as recommended by Apple expert) and questions I have.
    Existing set-up:
    Hardware...
    1. ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor
    2. PowerMac G4 (PowerPC processor) computer
    3. PCI-424 soundcard within computer (works in conjunction with MOTU 2408 mk3 unit)
    4. MOTU 2408 mk3
    5. Quested monitors
    6. Focusrite Session Pack ff ISA220 compressor
    7. MOTU micro lite (midi-usb interface)
    8. Keyboard (yet to choose - I'll explain later)
    9. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone
    10. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone power box (supplies both power and phantom power)
    Software...
    11. Tiger 10.4.11 operating system
    12. Logic Studio 8 music program
    Desired set-up:
    1. ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor
    2. Mac Mini full spec = £999.00
    3. _______________________________________
    4. _______________________________________
    5. Quested monitors
    6. _______________________________________
    7. _______________________________________
    8. _______________________________________
    9. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone
    10. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone power box (supplies both power and phantom power)
    Software...
    11. Top-end operating system = Comes with Mac Mini
    12. Logic Pro X music program = £139.99
    Existing configuration:
ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor goes into PowerMac G4 (PowerPC processor) computer
PCI-424 soundcard within computer (works in conjunction with MOTU 2408 mk3 unit)
MOTU 2408 mk3 used as my audio interface for sound in and sound out. This means that the sound comes out of computer via the MOTU 2408 and out of my Quested monitors (they are active so self-powered) which are attached to the MOTU's outputs.
When I record vocals I sing into my ADK microphone (this microphone sources its own power from its own box which also feeds it Phantom Power) which is connected by a mic to jack cable to the Focusrite compressor which is connected by jack to jack cable to the MOTU 2408 which then goes into my computer via a firewire cable.
When I play keyboards or use my keyboard as a midi controller it connects to my computer via the MOTU micro lite (midi-usb interface).
I don't currently have a keyboard. I used to use my basic Yamaha PSR-540 keyboard as a midi controller but as it's not weighted and faulty I needed to get a new one. We got a new one via Thomann which was the M-Audio Pro Keys 88 keyboard but this quickly became faulty. We returned it and have since been considering other weighted keyboards. I am simply wanting a keyboard with Aftertouch, either 76 or 88 keys, weighted keys and very importantly, hammer action where the action is fast. I don't care for other controllers on the keyboard, on-board sounds, iPad compatibility or whatever.
    My Questions:
Q1) Can you recommend any keyboards meeting my specifications?
Q2) I can't imagine any of the Blue or other USB mics competing with my ADK and I'm quite happy with it. For vocals and when I've wanted to play the keyboard in as audio (not as a midi controller) I've used the Focusrite compressor to boost the sound. I'm not using many functions/presets on the compressor as I know it's best to record the sound of vocals mostly raw, is this correct, and if so is it worth me continuing to use this compressor or sell it?
Q3) Do I need to have the MOTU micro lite (midi to usb) unit? Don't most keyboards these days connect direct usb to usb on the computer?
Q4) I'm happy and used to the sound out from my Quested monitors. I'm happy and used to the sound in using my ADK microphone. What do I need for these to work best with the Mac Mini? Is my MOTU 2408 good for this, or is another MOTU product needed, or another product altogether?
Q5) Depending on (Q4) do I need a soundcard installed in the Mac Mini as I read on a forum that these days the audio interface acts like the soundcard?
Q6) I have such a bad connection to the internet it's like I have Dial-up!!! I use Airport Wireless which is connected to a router downstairs, which is 02 Broadband. Internet's not an issue downstairs on my girlfriend's intel PC which also uses a wireless connection but not Airport. Is this a problem because of my Airport, or do I need to get a router for upstairs, or should I connect it directy to the router downstairs by ethernet cable?
    Many thanks!

Is there a reason you don't want to use your current Tascam?

  • Using an audio interface with multiple inputs

    Hi,
I'm currently facing an issue where I need to be able to use the audio from a microphone and a keyboard through Skype calling. I have them both plugged in to a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 audio interface. The problem is that only the microphone plugged into input 1 seems to be coming through, as if Skype will only address one channel of the interface. Is there any way around this or a different method you have used in a similar situation?
    Thanks,

I stumbled upon this thread in searching for some deeply hidden feature in Skype, but alas, there may not be a fix within Skype.  I realize the parent topic is very old, but I hope this can hope anyone in need of a solution (or get skype to incorporate some sort of summing feature).
That being said, there is an alternative for those of us with interfaces that have fully customizable routing.  Fully customizable routing, and more than your standard two (stereo) outputs, and at least one more input than you need in total for microphones.
What we're going to have to do for our podcast (one member is on vacation, states away), is hook all microphones into inputs that are not input 1. As far as I can tell, Skype will only recognize input 1.  In your interface's output routing software, you will need to create a submix/monitor mix (whatever they will call it) that sums (combines) all of the microphones together.  While you have the ability to add the software/daw return to this mix, you typically will not want to, as it could create feedback for the person joining the conversation via skype.
After you have created this submix/monitor mix (and be sure to double/triple check that input 1 is not involved with this mix at all) you will assign this to an auxiliary output... so say, your interface has 4 outputs, assign it to output 3.  Then lead a cable from the physical output 3 into the physical input 1 on your interface.
What this accomplishes is we're effectively sending all microphones into input 1, so your Skype recipient will be able to hear a mixdown of all microphones.  Certain interfaces will also allow you to do this routing without cabling.
There are more things to keep in mind, like if you're recording the call, you'll want to run a parallel output from your Main DAW/Software return into another physical input, but again, quadruple-check that you are not monitoring that track into your main buss as it would create a horrible feedback loop.  Generally I'd have the caller record their audio through Audacity or something free, but getting their recording on my end makes for syncing the call to the room recording so much easier... SO MUCH.
    TL;DR
    1) Make sure you have more than 2 outputs, and 1 more input than you would normally need for mic's.
    2) Plug microphones into inputs 2 and on, saving input 1.
    3) Use interface's software/routing mixer to sum all microphone inputs (EXCEPT 1) to an unused physical output.
    4) Route or connect that output into Input 1.
0-5) For the love of all audio gods, make sure you are double checking to avoid feedback.
I also recognize that with the appearance of things like WavTap and Soundflower that there are other solutions -- but this is one option for those of us that do not wish to explore those options.

  • Input problem with UCA202 usb audio interface and Garageband

Hello, i've tried to connect my guitar in my UCA202 Bheringer audio Interface, and the sound goes fine for few minutes and after i get a noisy distorsioned sound with a big delay...
I dont know if the problem comes from the MacBook, the sound card, Garageband or else...
it come only from input guitar device.
    Thanks to help.
    Alex

There are other posts concerning this problem. I also have a UCA202 and a Peavey PV10 USB mixer. It seams that anything using the 10.4.11 or 10.5.1 mac USB drivers are having this issue. I had to go back to 10.4.10 to resolve at this point. My recordings are clean when going back. There is 10.5.2 comming soon and it is not known if this will fix it. Check this thread for updates.

  • How do I use an audio interface with iMovie?

I'm trying to shoot a short clip of a musician playing. I want to use an interface with my higher end mics, and use iMovie '09 to shoot video. I have a Presonus Firebox as my interface. iMovie just doesn't seem to want to recognize it, nor record through it. This isn't something I can share to GarageBand because the timing between the video and audio has to be perfect. Any help?
    Thanks

Just buy the proper adapter cord, such as MiniDisplay port to HDMI for example.  Plug it in and it will be automatically recognized.  Use System Preferences > Displays to set options.
The display can Mirror your primary desktop or Extend the Desktop.
