Problem viewing iWeb pages on PC

Hi, this may have been addressed already, but I didn't see it anywhere. I believe I have v1.1. I have a couple of issues. One, the fonts that are "loaded" to the template, don't even show up correctly on safari or any other browser I have. So I had to go with very generic fonts.
The main thing, though, is once I get the site published, it looks fine on my mac. But when I try to access the site on a PC, the text and pictures sit on top of each other, so you can't read anything on the blog.
Anyone know how to fix this??
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'm having similar problems... Everything looks fine on the mac but PC's can't view the page correctly... now I am attempting to post videos and my question is, does iWeb require quicktime to view video files even if they are avi, or wmv? Because on the PC's I have tested windows media player does not attempt to view.. it just wants me to download quicktime.

  • Viewing iWeb pages in other browsers/platforms

Any known issues with viewing iWeb pages in other browsers like IE (older versions especially) or on a PC platform? I'm ready to build a big but simple family site, but my first test page (jnmobecker.home.comcast.net) is not playing nice. I see it fine on Safari on my Mac, other Macs (at work for instance) see it fine, one friend on a PC sees it fine, others on PCs do not. Specifically, all they can see is the top banner image of the three kids. I did try it on a PC at work today on IE, and I watched as the progress bar loaded 20+ images (the thumbnails and slideshow components I presume) but then nothing but that top bar. Thoughts and any sugggestions are much appreciated, thanks.

There are still problems with Firefox and IE: in particular, the font changes. In Safari it looks as it should, but others it reverts to some courier or verdana font.

  • Viewing iWeb pages with browsers

I know iWeb is WYSIWYG but I miss the facility I had in PageMill to quickly switch to view the page I'm working on in browsers. Is there any way to do this with iWeb? I currently upload my site before viewing it in Explorer or Firefox and I'm sure there must be an easier way. I just can't see what it is…!
Thanks in advance for your help

Doesn't that seem like a really ,really bad idea as a
basis for designing an application used to create web
    pages?
Personally I find it novel and ingenious. If you want the usual kind of program there are lots to choose from, and there's hardly a need for another one like them.
Would if it were at least possible after a site has
been published into a local folder that visting the
site took you the the page you were viewing to start
    with.
iWeb doesn't visit published sites itself. How is your browser supposed to know what page you were viewing inside iWeb? Maybe there's way to do that.
How about if you publish a site it doesn't have to
load every single page on the site every time you do
it, but rather just updated the changes? Nobody's
going to be able to make a site with any complexity
    like this.
Sounds like a likely future improvement. If you use .Mac, only changed pages (in red) are uploaded, unless you add pages and thus change the navigation header so all pages need revision. If you don't use .Mac, there are ways to use ftp programs to upload only changed items.
I'm not a web designer or anything like that, but
building a site of more than a dozen pages and
linking them is going to be painful to do with this
    thing.
I don't think it is intended to fill every need. People who need more complex stuff should use something else.

  • Problems publishing iWeb page to my website

Hello, I'm having a heck of a time trying to get my iWeb page published to the free host server I chose. I have a subdomain name and account at atspace.com and no matter what I do, the darn webpage will not work. I'm a complete newbie to webpage publishing although I have decent knowledge of computers. I went through the entire process of making my page on iWeb, then published it to a folder on my computer, and then have been trying to upload the page to the site using cyberduck, and yet every single time I try to upload any file from the web page, cyberduck connects, but then says the following: ftp error cannot create folder, /About _files About: Permission denied. I've followed all of the steps I'm supposed to from help sites on the web about how to publish an iWeb page to a free host server and it even is connecting to my server, but when I try to upload the actual pages, it won't work. I even downloaded WebEcho as well, and same thing, WebEcho says it worked and that everything is great, and yet I visit the site and nothing works. If I go to my website address it just comes up blank and says that safari can not find the server. I am at my wits end and am becoming incredibly upset with the whole thing. I don't know if iWeb is not working, or the server is not working. I have an account with the server though, I registered the subdomain name, and when I test the connection, it works, but when I type the website address in my browser, it doesn't work. If someone could help me figure this out, I would be very happy and appreciative. Thanks in advance.

To summarize: you use Cyberduck to upload the files to the server.
If that's the case it's not an iWeb issue. Its role ends when the pages are published to the folder on your desktop.
If Cyberduck cannot create folders on the server then you have to find out what the problem is. Either on the server or with Cyberduck.
On basic question is : do you publish to the correct folder on the server? It's usually named public_html, html-docs. Check with your webhost.
+*Not sure what you mean by is it published to the correct folder on the server. I published the page onto my computer, it's in the sites folder on my hard drive. iWeb says it's uploaded or whatever and would I like to visit the site. So I click yes and it takes me to this website: file:///Users/ryanfick/Desktop/Ryan%20Fick/About%20.html This is not the server or the subdomain name I registered so I'm not sure what this is. It works though and I can navigate around the website, but when I go to the website I have a subdomain name at, it doesn't find it. Plus, I have no idea what public_html or html-docs means or is, you would need to explain that to me for me to know what or how to find it or use it.*+
BTW, why not use iWeb to do the publishing. Enter the details in the FTP setup. But check the details with your host first. If Cyberduck cannot publish the pages, then iWeb cannot either.
+*I have already tried to use iWeb to publish the site as I mentioned above, but nothing is working. Thanks for the quick response, but I'm almost completely lost on almost everything you asked or talked about. I'm a newbie to webpages and ftp and such. I have no idea on most of the questions and comments. I do have a few questions. Do I need to manually go to atspace.com and upload all the files individually? There are like a thousand files under the main files. And second, I've been trying to use Easy iWeb to publish it and it is asking me to input a folder to input on to the website that your iWebsite will be published to. I have no idea what this means or what it wants. It says to leave blank if you want to publish it to the top level of your website. So I left it blank and clicked on check configuration and it says configuration OK. So then I go back to the main page and click on publish to web and it says Ready, uploading, then failed to upload file: About .html at /Users/ Does this help at all? What do I need to do, what is going wrong? I feel like I am in bizarrO world right now where right is wrong and wrong is right and nothing works. Thanks*+

  • Family has problems viewing my page + other questions about iweb 08???

Hello: I have been using iweb 08 since it came out and have had nothing but good things to talk about it. I ususally test my website on the library pc's or on my mac using firefox. I never see anything not working. My family and friends however always tell me about things not working and not showing up. They say it takes a long time to load - I am not sure if that is the problem overall or if it comes from them using Pc's (windowns xp mainly).
    My questions:
    1. How can I make sure that the content of my page does not take too long to load if I am using music, videos and images? (I know to look at the file sizes of all of them, but is there another trick)
    2. Can I have a main page for everyone to view my welcome page and then password protect the rest of the page only to my family? Or even make some pages only available for eg. Mom and Dad with another password?
    3. Does a Hit counter not work when publishing to my own domain? If yes, why do comments and password protection work then?
    4. Is it possible to link a page from my start page where I incorporated a picture and enable my viewers to see it larger when clicking on it without me making a new site that shows up in the top panel (just like about me, blog, photos, movies)
    5. There used to be a page to look at .mac customers and what they did with their membership. Starting their own business, military wife uses web gallery etc. I can't seem to find this page again, does anyone know the link.
I know this is a lot, if I could I would offer a reward for all the answers I need. Thanks though for helping me out, I try to help out as much as I can myself. Thank you. Sabina

Your site is loading OK but slow in Windows XP running IE V 7. The form is loading too. Maybe its a Vista problem?
My general rule is that if your site locks IE then you have to reduce the page size and optimize.
If it loads slowly and shows layout anomalies, then optimizing will usually cure it.
I have been using Web Site Maestro for several years and can highly recommend it. Download the trial version which will optimize 50% of your files and watch the screen to see how much it reduces the individual file sizes.
For an example of photo file reduction see....

  • IPad Safari FAILS to correctly view iWeb Pages

If you view this address on your computer, you get everything correct, but if you view the same iWeb-generated site on an iPad, many of the pages are screwed up:
    hdslrreview.com
Why is this? Is it a failure of the iPad, iPad Safari or iWeb itself?
    (iPad 32 GB)

Clearly, we are all going to need updates to the 1.0 software. There is a site that I access that is used for communication. There is a reply window and I cannot type into that window using the iPad tho it works just fine from my other Macs. I was on another site and things did not line up correctly on my iPad screen. This iPad is a work in progress and it will require some patience while Apple works to resolve issues like this one and others.

  • I phone 4 - problem viewing web pages

When I open any webpage such as google or my email, I can only see the webpage in a tiny sliver at the top of the screen. I can scroll through it, but it appears to be blocked by a white page. Any ideas how I can view the whole page or get the white page to go away?
    Kelly

It's hard to tell from your description what you may be seeing, but here are a couple ideas:
Zoom is on? If so, go into settings and turn zoom off. settings > general > Accessibiliy - OR
You have White on Black on? (same page in settings) - OR
Reboot your phone. Hold the home and power button at the same time until the Apple Logo appears (keep holding past the swipe to turn off). THen when you turn it back on, see if your problem is solved.

  • Problems viewing all page content in portrait mode

Have just tried authoring first iBook using templates and when viewed in portrait mode I get titles of pages but content is missing so have to go to landscape mode.
There seems to no way of starting at front of book as it opens automatically at page one  and only scrolls forward. To ensure continuity and visuals do I author in portrait or landscape mode.

Layout in landscape....edit in portrait. Verify in both.
Note some elements have a 'share in portrait' attribute you can set in the Inspector.

  • Adsense problem on iweb pages posted on .mac

with iWeb we have a perfect tool to publish easily from our mac on me.com
BIG PROBLEM: Google adwords does not allow you to post via mac on me.com and wants you to use the complete and total reference, instead of the simple and easier sitename.
trying to talk to google people is fairly impossible, like talking to a wall. they don t understand that
    a. me.com is the general mac site for iweb users
    b. posting an ad with something like me.com/mepossem/user/bienvenidos.html is a bit counterproductive, and www.alicanterestaurante.com is 'a bit' easier.
makes one wonder what the intelligence level is at google ...
conclusion: don t lose your time if you have an apple mac website, and just simply go to yahoo. unless someone can come up with a solution ....

ok Roddy, you made your point we should not host on .mac etc. so if someone can (maybe) come up with a solution that has any sense?
or are we down to 'forget about .mac'? not very interested as i want to keep the management of the site to myself, due to frequent changes I have to make into it, and both .mac and iWeb suit me perfectly. I am about once or twice on national TV or radio here in Spain, and updating the website with this combination of tools is what I want.
imho Google are just simply being fastidious, as the real influence is about nil ....

  • Problems viewing updated page

    Greetings all,
I created a website for my high school arts department and I've encountered issues that I can't seem to resolve. Someone please help this teacher out!
The site I created is www.jghsfinearts.com
I updated one page on the site (visualart), published the site changes, and uploaded the following to my Lunarpages server: visualart.html and visualart_files. I uploaded them to public_html folder just as I had everything else. However, since making the changes nothing appears on the updated page on my site. When I visit the site, I see the status bar working but when it gets to "Done" the page is completely blank.
I feel really stressed because there is a lot of student art there and I don't want to let the kids down because of my technical incompetence. Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks.

I took a guess at it and I was right. I had exceeded my storage capacity with my webhost Lunarpages. I cleared out some space and now all my pages display correctly.
And now my next question: why can't I get my podcast subscription to work? But that is for another post.

  • No scrolling when viewing man pages with Gnome terminal?

    Hi all,
I have just installed Oracle Solaris 11 on x86. For a long time I've used Solaris 9 on SPARC. I like the new OS, but I'm having a problem viewing man pages with Gnome terminal. When I view a long man page, e.g., "man newfs", I don't get a functional scroll bar on the right hand side of the window. And although the space bar works to advance the page, when I reach the end, it doesn't return to the command prompt. It just beeps, prints "END", and I can only exit by closing the window. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Chris Tidy

It does sound like you're using "less" instead of more. When you see the "(END)" prompt you can simply type "q" and it will exit back to the command line prompt making it unnecessary to close the window. See the "less" manual page for more detail on the less command. Under Solaris 9 the paging was done with the "more" command. If you set the PAGER environment variiable to "more" the man page will use more and revert to the behavior you'd be used to with Solaris 9. Less erases the text you've already read when you type that final "q" which is a behavior I don't like. I didn't bother to determine if there is a way to fix that with less, I just went back to more. The choice between "more" and "less" is a personal preference.

  • Problem viewing videos on my iweb site - Macs only

    Hello,
I recently uploaded some .movs (Quicktimes) to my iweb site. They were exported from Final Cut Pro using Compressor, using the Quicktime streaming option, size 320x240. When I publish, anyone using a PC (presumably Firefox) can click the play button on the quicktime and watch it. However, when viewing the page on a Mac (tested on a few different systems) you can't click the play button, you can't even scrub through the video. On a laptop you can ctrl+click and it will play, but I can't get it to work on a desktop (either with ctrl+click or right click). The website was published on a computer with Tiger, and iLife '04.
In case it's important, I've had success publishing videos on sites made with iLife '04 but with the Leopard operating system (on a different computer), but I'm thinking this shouldn't be a problem.
Anyone heard of this problem or have any solutions for me?

Update: just discovered that it has nothing to do with desktops and laptops, but in Safari you can right click the play button and it will play. In Firefox on a Mac, there is no way to get it to play. In Firefox in a PC, however, you can just click it normally to play.

  • Iweb pages not easily viewed by windows Explorer users. FF&NN more better.

My work colleagues, who are all on windows computers defaulted to use internet explorer, can't load my iweb pages.
The music halts, the pages stutter and stagger and it takes forever to load. and then one can not scroll... The problem seems to disappear when i have people download firefox and netscape navigator and call up the site with those browsers. But some folks don't want to take the time to do that. Default Internet Explorer should work with iweb-built pages. Is there a fix?
Also, on my mac.com page, the number of hits is no longer reflected. I recently upgraded to iweb (ilife) 08, (from earlier version that came with the Macpro when i bought it in july)Before the upgrade, I could always see the pages and how many hits all in one place! i have rebuilt the pages and added other pages in the new iweb 08, but still can't see the hits. do you have a fix, does anyone have a fix?

There's been a lot of stuff written in this forum about Internet Explorer. A quick search will keep you reading for hours!
A lot of the problems disappear if the user has the latest version of IE and QuickTime Player installed.
Also they have to have Java Script enabled.
One good idea I saw on a website was an announcement that "this website is best viewed in Firefox" with the Firefox download logo beside it. Get it here...
    http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates/homepage
Try to educate the we surfers one at a time!
I would post your hit counter issue as a separate topic since a lot of people will not bother reading about IE as so much has already been said.
I am answering this because your topic was getting ignored and the hit counter issue may get a better response if you try again.

  • I have more problems in iWeb than I can begin to describe.  For one, after an "unexpected shutdown" of iWeb, it just deleted 10 of my published pages.

I published the updates to my site last night.  Today I have had to make some adjustments.  I saved iWeb before I left for lunch just in case.  After lunch, I made more changes and through an issue with a photo album, iWeb "unexpectedly quit".  When I went to Revert to Saved..., it did revert to saved, which I didn't realize until then that somehow iWeb had deleted 10 pages before I saved it.  So now I have lost 10 pages.
Every time I open iWeb, it tells me it no longer has the links to documents or any of the pictures.  Every time I work on iWeb, I have to reattached all the documents and re upload all the pictures all over my site.
I could write for hours about the problems with iWeb.  Certainly I am doing something wrong ... but my IT company has no idea what is wrong or how to fix it.
    I have iWeb version 3.0.4 (601)

First replace your domain file that's in the Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder with a backup copy that was made before this happened.
If you don't have a backup copy try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Is it possible to widen the page view when drafting iWeb pages?

I'm drafting web pages via iWeb and figured out how to make the page content wider (in page layout/content width), but would like to be able to have a view of the entire page while I'm rearranging the text and images on the webpage. I cannot figure out how to be able to view the page without having to scroll left and right. Is it possible to see what the finished product looks like in its entirety before and/or after publishing to iWeb???

    iLyzzard wrote:
Seems like my iMac with a 21.5 monitor should do the job. The webpages look great online, but how can I widen my draft-view so I don't have to keep guessing as to alignment of my text and images? Please advise.
I'm not really understanding your question since the way things look in iWeb is pretty much the way they look online.
In what way do your iWeb pages not look like what you see online?
This is really a feature in iWeb (and one which costs iWeb excessive code if anything): to be able to provide a WYSIWYG canvas on which to build.
