Problem w/desktop pictures

I all of a sudden w/my desktop pics loading. I went under system preferences and my pics from iPhoto are not there. Then Dragged a pic from the desktop and loaded it and it worked. But the pic has to stay on the desktop to remain a desktop photo. If I trash it,it reverts back to default. I did read the post about trashing the com.apple.desktop.phlist but there is not one under the library preferences??? What the heck happened?

OK, go to this link and check this video, which is what I did and my background pictures stay. Not very good quality, but maybe you can check to see if anything is missing.

  • Resolution problems with desktop pictures?

at the beginning of ml my high resolution images, 60 mgb. were ok. now if I choose a vertical image to fit the screen, the image shows highly  noticeable pixelation. that did not happen in lion, mountain lion 18.8.1, nor in snow leopard. also is happening in the last update of lion 10.7.5. has anyone told apple this annoying problem?. there is also another problem, and this one is real big. black and white images show color, like when you saturate too much an image on "hue and saturation" in photoshop. I think this problem has to do with color sync.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.desktop.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac.
    See if that helps...

  • Changing desktop pictures locks system preferences

Re MacBook Pro laptop (OS 10.7.5)
Problem: Changing desktop pictures locks System Preferences
If I try to open System Preferences, I get windows for the Change Desktop/Background and the whirling beach ball begins until I go to Activities Monitor to Force Quit System Preferences, which informs me that my "System Preferences is no longer responding."
I have no trouble booting my Mac,
checked my Disk Utility informing me that there are no errors,
    checked Permissions without errors,
went to Users>"my name">Preferences>found the plist for com.apple.systempreferences, moved it to my desktop, tried the Apple System Preferences option with same result. Returned plist .  Hmm, just noticed that I have com.apple.systempreferences with one directly after Library ( i.e., not in any folder), and the other in the Library>Preferences folder. Could that be the foul up?  Perhaps one of these plists is misplaced.
    Any suggestions?

First follow the instructions in this support article.
If an iPhoto or Aperture library is the source of your desktop pictures, it may need to be rebuilt, or you may need to update the application to the latest version.
    Otherwise, continue as below.
    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
              Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
              Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following items to the Desktop, if they exist:
              Application Support/Dock/desktoppicture.db
              Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the items you moved to the Desktop back where they came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the items.

  • Problem with Prefences, desktop picture.

    Hi,
I think that a long time ago i did something wrong with my system prefences. By the section background for your desktop, all the pictures that are did stand by " apple pictures" , "nature", black&white" are gone.
I tried to go to the map with the same name, and there all the foto's where in there, How do i get all the pictures that come with mac os x back into the section desktop/background in system prefences?

If I'm understanding correctly, when you open System Preferences, click on Desktop & Screen Saver, and select the Desktop Tab, on the left hand side you can see the different sections for backgrounds (Apple, Nature, Plants, etc...), but there isn't anything on the right hand side. If this is the case the first thing you may want to do is go to /Library/Desktop Pictures. You should see some image files and folders in there. The folders will be named the same as what's found in the Desktop & Screen Saver System Preference. If there is nothing in there, then the only thing I can think of doing is an Archive & Install to get them back. You'll want to do a search 1st, though, just in case they were moved.
If they are were they're supposed to be, try logging into another account to see if it is affected as well. This will help determine if it is a system wide thing, or just user related. If it turns out to be user related, trashing the System Preferences .plist file (located at /Users/yourshortname/Library/Prefrerences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist) should get you back to normal.

  • Desktop Pictures missing in preferences but not in Library...

When I go to change my desktop picture in system preferences and I click on a folder (like "nature" or "abstract"), the pics in that category do not appear and the preview screen stays blank. I checked and the files are still under Library->Desktop Pictures and I can select them from there if a add a new folder to the system preferences desktop pics list. The problem is that this should not be happening... anyone have a fix?

Not a fix but something I found out the hard way.. When I use quartz images that do not have the same size as my desktop and I scale them to fit my desktop size my graphics in general give trouble. Screen savers that will not run in test mode. Screen savers running black in the background, Photo Booth issues. Depth of the screen is reduced. If you use custom desktop pictures don't resize them to fit your screen, center them or just have them full screen. They somehow don't scale well.

  • 10.9.3 on iMac 27", dock displays near middle of screen, desktop picture isn't covering whole desktop. Anyone else having this annoying glitch?

    Hello Everyone.
I upgraded an iMac 27" (3.4 Ghz, Intel Core i7, 3TB fusion) from Mac OS X 10.8.6., to Mac OS X 10.9.3 a few days back.
Ever since then, the 2nd user to login on a given day, gets the dock displayed near the middle of the screen. It still interacts OK (e.g. you can launch applications from there), but it is not in it's correct location. The desktop picture (in this case, a shade of solid dark grey), only covers the smaller desktop area (up to where the Dock is). The remaining area of the screen automatically gets a 'light grey' background colour.
So person A logs in, no problem. But when person B comes along (with perosn A still logged in), the user logins, and they get this 'chopped of' version of the screen, with the dock mid-screen. (See screenshot attached).
The users can still click on any dock icons, and the applications will open up. But the dock won't return to it's original home, and refuses to 'jump' back to their proper home (at the bottom of the screen).
I've tried using CSCREEN to change the resolution at startup, via a terminal command and Automator, but that only works on some occasions. Others (like the attached screenshot) boot with the two-colour background, and 'confused' dock. A manual screen resolution change in the Settings area (down and then back up again), resolves the issue for that boot.
I've tried stripping back all non-essential plug-ins, tried removing a variety of start-up items, add-ons etc. I've tried creating a 'test' account, and the same issues appear to this account too.
Is it just me, or are others having problems with a misbehaving dock / screen resolution, in Mac OS X 10.9.3 / on an iMac 27"?
    Thank you!
    D.

    Hi folks.
I found a solution...Looks like the Dock is the culprit it's self. So, I made an automator app that I fire up automatically at login time. The automator app runs a shell script command:
       killall Dock
(make sure you have a capital D on Dock)
The Dock gets closed off, and it then re-opens in the correct spot (bottom of the screen -- not the middle of the screen). Hope this helps someone else!
    Enjoy.

  • My desktop picture on startup reverts to apple pink space and not the photo I selected in preferences.

When I start my iMac the desktop picture is the apple red and pink space thing. In the preferences I have chosen a folder containing pictues and selected to change the pictures every 5 seconds and that works fine but when I shut down or restart the apple red/pink picture comes up so how do I correct this problem?

Thanks I have just rebooted it, but still to no avail, have you got any other suggestions? I've inserted a couple of
images to show you exactly what I mean. As you can see the toolbar at the top there are no buttons on safari or finder, only a couple the rest have disappeared.

  • Desktop Pictures: "Change Pictures" in System Prefs no longer works.

I used to have my Desktop pictures change every five minutes using a special folder of photos. This function no longer works. The setting appears to be in effect according to the System Preferences Desktop Pictures Pane but the function appears to be broken in 10.4.5. I have trashed the Destop Pictures Preferences file in the Preferences Folder, but it still will not work.
Can anyone using Tiger 10.4.5 get this to work?
    Griff

    OK, that was really dumb!
The reason for the problem became abundantly clear when I quit Pathfinder. Suddenly the picture change became functional again.
So, I guess Pathfinder will not follow the Finder when it comes to settings like this.
Hey Cocoatech, how about getting this into your next release?

  • Desktop pictures won't use all pictures in folder

When I created a folder in iPhoto of the pictures I wanted on my desktop, not all the pictures are used, only 4 of the 8 I put there. I deleted the preferences, logged out and in again, but the same thing happens. Then I deleted the number of pictures, but two of them still don't show up.
Can anyone help solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Joanne

Found an answer to my own question. Some pictures I import won't be recognized by iPhoto, but if I do an edit, then iPhoto does acknowledge them. After I slightly cropped each picture, they all show up, both in desktop pictures and screen saver.

  • My desktop picture is stuck in the stretch mode and I can't seem to change it. How do I change it?

my desktop picture is stuck in stretch mode and I can't seem to change it.  Help!!

Hewlett Packard already knew about this problem and they have also published a fix to solve the problem of wallpaper stucking on stretch mode. Download the hot fix from the ftp site here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45575.exe. This package changes the Wallpaper Picture Position function from Stretched to Fill, Fit, Tile, or Center.

  • Selected Desktop Picture Will Not Appear

I recently downloaded this picture from this site:
    http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details.php?id=654
I have done so on both my iBook G4 (12") and now my iMac G5 (20"). I selected the file for 1680x1050 to match my resolution settings.
I placed the file in the Desktop Pictures folder and opened System Preferences. A thumbnail of the image appears in the list of choices as the other images do and I select it. However, the image does not appear on my desktop, instead I get a solid default blue background and that is it.
Other images I have downloaded to not appear to have the same problem and I am able to open the picture with Preview with out issue. I have tried various File sizes and resolution settings with no effect. I did not have this issue on my iBook.
Any idea how to fix this?

    Hi, Jason.
I was able to reproduce the problem you are seeing with that image. I also tried the 1900x1200 download version: same problem.
I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that the details for the file (perform a Get Info on the image, open the More Info panel) shows:
    "Profile Name: Calibrated RGB Colorspace"
which is the ColorSync Profile specified in the image. I'm using the Cinema HD color profile with my 30-inch Cinema HD Display, so perhaps that may explain why the image cannot be used as a desktop image: lack of matching ColorSync profile.
I was able remove the specified ColorSync profile as follows:
    1. Open the file in Preview.
    2. Select File > Save As.
    3. Specify a new name for the file.
    4. Specify a location for saving the file.
    5. Select JPEG file type and desired Quality.
    6. Click Save.
I was then able to use the newly saved image as my desktop picture.
    Good luck!

  • Desktop Picture Changes to Solid Blue Automatically

I have never seen this problem. I have had one of Apple's standard black and white pictures as my desktop for years. All of a sudden (don't recall any changes to system) my desktop is solid "Apple" blue. If I change it to anything else it reverts back to the solid blue within a few minutes. I tried opening the console and viewing all messages to see if I could get a clue to what system call might be change it but I saw no messages occur as I observed the desktop picture being changed.
Can anyone tell me how I might track down what is changing my desktop picture?

Thanks, I should have thought of that.
I tried it and it didn't work. My desktop picture changed almost immediately after logging in. but it did lead to the solution. I noticed that the desktop picture changed at the same time as Entourage Alert's launched (this was turned on the same day that the problem started. So I turned off Entourage Alerts and logged in and out. The desktop picture has remained as selected.
I'm not interested in running Entourage so I don't care about the bug.
