Problem w/ DNG Converter 6.6

I recently downloaded Adobe DNG Converter 6.6 (for Mac OS X10.7) in order to convert Canon's proprietary CR2 images from my Canon 60D camera so that I can use Adobe Bridge (CS4) & ACR (v5.7). When I attempted to convert a folder containing 43 CR2 images, the DNG Converter would "hang up" after about 10 images were converted. This required a "force quit". Same problem occurred when I attempted to convert CR2 images from another folder containing 5 images.
Thank you kindly for any help or suggestions. I truly appreciate it.

I just downloaded and installed this version on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits.
I can report it works great with my Raw DNG files, from camera:  Pentax K-m/ K2000.
Probably also with all other Pentax camera's.

  • Problems opening DNG converted file in Photoshop CS3

I have used Adobe DNG Converter 5.4 to convert my Panasonic DMC-FX150 raw images. The conversion goes well, but the resulting file throws an error when opening in PSCS3: Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.
The only thing I can think of is that the images were taken in the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Lightroom will render the image to a tiff, which I can then open in PS, but this is a PITA.
Is the 16:9 ratio unsupported in CS3? appoligies for not pre-searching the forum other than looking for "16:9"

well, problem is back. DNG radomly failing to process all images. I took 6 pictures all at the same settings, and out of the 6, only two converted successfully. No errors in DNG, but in Finder, for the files that don't open in PSCS3 don't have thumbnail icons.

  • Problem running DNG Converter from command line in Windows XP

I'm a frustrated user trying to run Adobe DNG converter from the Windows command line - more specifically from a batch file.
    - Am reasonably conversant with writing batch files
    - Have read the PDF file provided by Adobe
I just can't figure the correct syntax for adding the command line parameters and, unfortunately, the Adobe PDF file doesn't have verbose examples for idiots like me. Nor can I find any such examples on the Net, or any discussion of this problem in the forums.
    The Adobe PDF instructions state...
"The parameter list includes the conversion options you want to use, followed by the names of the files to convert."
As there is no switch to prefix 'the names of the files to convert' I assume I just leave a space and include the path to the source files at the end of the parameter list?
Here is the batch file line I am trying to use...
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter.exe [parameter list]"
Where I want to specify in the [parameter list] that...
    (a) The destination directory (-d <directory> parameter) is c:\DNG_files
    (b) And the source files are in directory c:\RAW_files
Here is the batch line with the parameters entered...
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe DNG Converter.exe -dC:\RAW_files c:\DNG_files"
I've tried variations of this with space between -d and C:\RAW_files and C:\DNG_files\*.* for the source files parameter.
I just keep getting DOS erros like "The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect"
Can anybody help me. I'm clueless how to solve the problem. :-(
I'm running DNG COnverter version 4.2
    Thanks in anticipation.

    Thanks for responding G Sch.
LOL. Well this lemming doesn't habitually rename .exe files (e.g. Adobe DNG Converter.exe) to a non-spaced alternative either! (Adobe_DNG_Converter.exe)

  • Big problem with DNG converter

    Hi
I would like to convert all my RAW CR2 canon to DNG (The format RAW CR2 change every time) and work with my PSE
I downloded DNG converter 6.5 and make a test but there is a big problème, the date of the .dng is not the date of the RAW, it's date of the convert...for me, it's impossible i want keep the original date.
    Please, could you help me......
    Thanks
    René

    rene_ladole wrote:
The problem is that the file date is changed by dng converter, when I want to rename the file with DNG as a parameter of the date of creation of the photo, the renamer is in the name of the date of creation dng, it can not go to my ranking of my photos ....
There are three potential dates with a digital capture, the Date/Time the file was created, the date/time the file was modified and the EXIF metadata Date/Time Original which is recorded by the camera at the moment of exposure. It is this final Date/Time that you would want to use in a name. Any time you create a new file–which is what DNG Converter is designed to do, you'll get a new date/time of that file's creation. That's not something the DNG Converter can change. If you take the DNG into ACR/Lightroom and modify the settings, you'll get a new date/time of the modification. However, the EXIF metadata will still correctly indicate the moment the capture was created in the EXIF Date Time Original tag.
So, what are you using to rename the files? If you are using Bridge to rename the file, the Date Time option when set to Date Created should be using the EXIF Date Time Original tag as the source of the date/time. Other apps should also be able to be set to use the EXIF Date Time Original tag.

  • Problem With DNG Converter

I just installed the DNG converter and can't get it to work.
When I first installed it, it let me go to the correct folder one time, but after that one time, when I click the Select Folder button I get this error message:
"There is no disk in the drive.  Insert a disk into drive
    /Device/HardDrive5/DR15"
It makes no sense to me.
    I'm running Win 7 64bit

I get a message like this, sometimes, not with the DNG Converter, but just in general, if I leave my card-reader plugged into my computer after I have removed my card, so the computer sortof sees it but not entirely.
From your description I would guess that the DNG Converter is remembering the location of your previous conversion and that was on a removable drive or other device, that needs to be plugged in, again.  What was the path for your successful conversion, initially?
Can you do another conversion from another location or does the error prevent selecting a new location?

  • Problem Using DNG converter Vers 3.5

Converted images from canon 1ds mark11 and Nikon d2xs and images only appear as large as thumbnaills from both cameras.I know the D2xs is not supported yet but this problem has now occured with the Canon, Any advice ?

That doesn't work for me. I created the DNGs directly from the NEFs and CRWs using the 3.5 converter. I double-checked that all the settings were as per the Apple instructions.
It's clearly a problem with the decoding of DNG files. With DNG version 3.4 and earlier, I get the proper size image, but no white balance information. With 3.5 I get the "as shot" white balance, but only the thumbnail. All versions of DNG open correctly in Adobe Camera Raw and Lightroom (hardly surprising as it is an Adobe format).
Fingers crossed that Aperture 1.5 and/or 10.4.8 will resolve this. However, I suspect that as long as camera RAW formats remain closed, proprietary, and even encrypted (à la the D2X) RAW decoding issues will remain for all vendors.

  • New adobe DNG converter and CS4 quality problems - EOS 7D

    Hi,
A friend of mine uses Adobe Photoshop CS2.
He plans to buy Canon EOS 7D or EOS 5D Mark II in the future but first we did some tests and conversions.
We found many problems and quality issues.
First Problem is that CS2 doesn't support Canon EOS 7D directly so user has to use DNG Converter to convert the EOS 7D file from .cr2 to a .dng.
When i use and test this, CS2 recognizes and opens .dng file correctly then i optimize sharpness, color etc etc in the photoshop and save the file from the file menu (Save AS) as .jpg file.
Adobe Photoshop CS2 fails to save exif data.
It just saves the camera model nothing else.
On the other hand if i use CS4 it saves all exif data (without dng):
    The next problem is quality.
If i use indentical settings in RAW converted between CS2 (dng) and CS4 (cr2) CS2 images look sharper and have more "per pixel sharpness" than CS4 raw images.
Here's a sample (raw file taken from dpreview.com) that i tested it using both raw converters:
So these are two problems that i don't like nor does my friend and i am asking you if you would fix that and why such hudge difference ?
As the CS4 is being the newest the best of all photoshop it should had better picture but in this case the older version has better picture and i don't see any logic in that.
So if user wants to go for better quality he/she will pick CS2 but have a disadvantage - Exif is not saved in the .jpg file.
I also think that if dpreview would have used CS2 instead of CS4 they would get much higher "per pixel sharpness" from Canon EOS 7D as they did now.
    Thanks.

You can't use the exact same settings since the settings in ACR 3.x (Photoshop CS2) don't match up to ACR 5.x (Photoshop CS4).
Seriously, there was a major change in ACR 4 and then 5 that make comparing ACR 3.x and 5.x pretty pointless...
Fact is if you aren't getting optimal results from Camera Raw 5.x then you don't know how to use it...simple as that.
ACR 3.x had a very crude image sharpening process compared to either ACR 4.1 and above of any 5.x version.
Seriously, Photoshop CS2 and Camera Raw 3.x is way old tech...if you can't get better IQ from 5.x you are doing something wrong.

  • Problem with the DNG converter.

I change my hard disk in my computer and I had to reinstall all my programs, CS3 included, as well as the DNG converter. I follow the instructions as if they were the Bible. The bottom line is that after several intents, when I open the DNG converter and try to use some raw files to make a boot tease in my web site, I get the followng message: "THERE WAS AN ERROR PARSING THE FILE" . How  can I fix this problem and what does it mean. (from a computer point of view not grammatical)

If you are reinstalling everything, are you sure you used a new enough version of the DNG converter?  The current version is 6.6

  • Adobe DNG Converter Problem - Won't recognise files!

    Hi
I have downloaded Adobe Digital Negative Converter as a way of converting Nikon NEF files from a Nikon D3000 to DNG so I can edit them in Photoshop CS3. Currently the images from the D3000 won't open in CS3.
When using the DNG converter, on clicking on the 'Covert' button it is coming up with the following error message:
"The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files". The source folder I have selected contains the Nikon D300 NEF raw images I have downloaded from the camera.
Any help on this would be gratefully received. Am I carrying out the process as I should do? I cannot see that I am doing anything wrong!
    Many thanks
    Carl

You must be using an older version of the DNG converter. Click on the button "About DNG converter...", it should show 5.6. something, or higher.
    Download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/

  • DNG converter 8.6 problem

I have Elements 6 and a Nikon D7000. I have downloaded DNG converter 8.6 to convert my NEF files to DNG. I am running Windows 7. When I try and open my DNG files, I am told there is a program error.

Update your pse 6 camera raw plugin to version 5.6
I tried with the camera raw 4.2 plugin that ships with pse 6 and got the same error as you, no matter the compatibility setting in the dng converter.
After updating to camera raw 5.6, the dngs opened fine.

  • DNG Converter install problem

    Hi all-
I didnt know what forum to post this in but since I run elements, I figured I'd post it here.
I have a new camera and was looking to get DNG converter to bridge the gap until I get Lightroom-3
    Current set up:
    iMac 24
    os 10.4.1.1
    Photoshop Elements 6
    Camera Raw 5.6
ACR 5.6 does not handle my Sony a580 .arw files.  PSE-6 cant upgrade to higher than 5.6 ACR.
I tried to get Adobe DNG converter so I can convert my 580's .ARW files but when I donwload and install version 6.5, all seems to go well except program does not open.  The icon in applications folder bounces, starts to show on the dock then dissappears, no program open.  I started going back versions to see if I could get any to run and the newest I could get to was 5.5.  5.5 opens and seems to work, I havent tried with my older file.  But, it dosent support the a580.  So I tried to run the upgrade to 6.3 (supports the 580) but installer says there is "nothing to install" on clicking install.  Tried to upgrade to 6.5 and back to not opening.
Am I doing something wrong? DNG converter 6.5 says it is OK on os 10.4, I cant figure it out.

Try installing directly too the desktop rather than applications.
Make sure you are using the correct download link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5257
You then need to launch from the desktop icon and:
    1. elect the folder of arw images you would like to convert to DNG.
    2. Select the location you would like the new DNG files to be saved.
    3. Choose rename if desired.
    4. Click convert.

  • Adobe dng Converter 8.7.1 problem

My camera is a Panasonic FZ200 which takes Rw2 images as listed under 8.7.1.
I have Adobe PSE 10 but the Converter is set as a Windows default
program for converting Rw2 to Dng formats and works independently of PSE.
The Converter does not recognise my Rw2 folders although Windows does.
    My system is:
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1
System architecture: Intel CPU Family:6, Model:5, Stepping:5 with MMX,
    SSE Integer, SSE FP, SSE2
    Physical processor count: 2
    Logical processor count: 4
    Processor speed: 3210 MHz
    My monitor is a 23inch  16x9 with1920x1080 pixels it's maximum.

When you are trying to locate raw images in the DNG converter, are you just choosing the FOLDER and not opening the folder? The DNG converter works at the folder level, and if you open the folder you will be notified that there are no files to convert.

  • DNG Converter Problem

I have a Nikon D7k which I have been shooting in RAW and converting using Adobe DNG converter 6.4 to process in Lightroom 2. (I have a G4 (PPC) Mac with OS 10.5.8. LR2 is the last version this Mac can run.) The converted files look rather poor and require substantial effort to achieve an acceptable result in LR. JPEGs look much better out-of-the-camera. I looked at some of the RAW files in Nikon ViewNX2 and they looked much, much better. Unfortunately, there is some sort of color space conflict with LR2 which I have been unable to resolve.
Does anyone have a suggestion other than shooting in JPEG, which I am presently doing, until such time as I get a new computer which will run the latest versions of LR and PS?
    Thanks!

If you find some LR settings that are consistently better than the defaults, then make new defaults, or at least some presets with those alternate settings that you can apply en-masse or upon import.
Use Auto Tone if the JPGs look better because you have Active D-Lighting enabled in the camera.  If it’s more the colors then use the Camera Standard profile instead of Adobe Standard.  Generally, learn how to use Lightroom and you won’t have to rely on the camera doing things for you.

  • Problem with dng raw converter

I install 8.5 raw converter but Lightroom did not see that Why?

These are two separate programs that do not know about each other's existence.
You use the DNG converter as a standalone program to convert RAW photos to DNG. Then you import the DNGs into Lightroom.

  • Can't open .CR2 files in PhotoShop CS5, Camera RAW or Adobe DNG Converter

Firstly take note I shot these with a Canon EOS 450D (or Rebel XSi)...
I see a lot of answers speaking about having the most up to date version of the Camera RAW Plug-in.
I have a similar issue with my .CR2 files... I cannot open them in Camera RAW because it tells me that my camera model or make is not supported by the Plug-in, and so I was directed by other forums to just try converting the .CR2 files to .DNG. I already had the Adobe DNG Converter (version 6.5 I believe), so I tried this. It too told me that my files or camera make were not supported.
However, I have always been able to successfully both open my .CR2 files AND convert them to .DNG. I had not updated anything on my camera nor on my Adobe programs and for some reason this last attempt to open RAW files failed me... I have no idea what change would have led to it. Luckily I shot in both RAW and Large JPG but I certainly don't want to rely on my JPGs of course... Any idea why this problem might have arisen now if it had always worked easily in the past?
    Thanks!

Are these the same exact files you've opened before that you cannot now open?
Or are they newly copied files (camera or CF card to computer)?
Can you not open ANY Canon 450D files, even those you find online and download?
What I'm getting at with these questions is to try to eliminate or suspect data corruption of the files on your disk.
Exactly what versions of the various tools do you have, specifically (don't guess - go check)?
