Problem watching videos in IPhoto

I used to be able to do this - but no longer! The camera icon is there but doubleclicking does nothing. I've just got myself a new Probook, copied everything over  from the Imac (which was running Mavericks) and the same applies.
Recently imported photos have not included videos (apparently) as the ones I know I took are not visible. Actually they are not visible on my camera either although I know they must be there (it's a sony RX 100 Mk II).
No problems with stuff imported from my or others iphones. Any clues?

What system and iPhoto version are you using?
Go to your Home/Library/Quicktime folder and remove the Flip4Mac & Perian components if they are there.  Launch iPhoto and try again.
Another fix you might try is described here:

This solved my questionRe: ios update problem - 7.1 11D167 iphoto not picking up new photos
Mar 20, 2014 7:15 AM (in response to JdinPa)
I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.
Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

  • Help - SYNC problem watching video on Fancast

On both of my computers , When I watch a video on Fancast and other sites that use Flash Player the video and voice is not in sync. The longer you watch the farther the voice and video gets out of sync. The voice is ahead of the video. The video is also a little choppy. I use Firefox and Explorer browsers and both have the same problem. I have updated both as well as Flash Player on both computers. When I watch videos that use other players I do not have this problem. So if anyone can help please do ,it is not good to watch shows so out of sync.
    Thanks

  • Growing problem watching videos in Elements 7

I initially installed PSE5 and Premiere 3 as part of a package a couple years ago. At the time I was easily able to watch videos in Elements 5, including relatively unusual formats such as .m2t, as well of course as .avis.
I upgraded to PSE7 a few months back (no upgrade for Premiere however). Around about that time I found I could no longer watch or import .m2ts or .mp4s. I cant say for sure if it was at the time of the upgrade the problem occurred, as I hadn’t tried using either PSE5 or PSE7 for that purpose for a while.
Within the last week or so, I have found that I can no longer even view .avis. I definitely have been able to do so in PSE7 in the past. Now whenever I try, the whole of Elements will crash (one of the few times I have seen PSE7 do that). .
Other possibly relevant changes to my computer that have occurred over that time are the installation of Sony Vegas Movie Studio and some Pixela viewing software for that came with a Canon AVCHD Camcorder.
I appreciate that this could be a highly technical, highly tedious question dealing with codecs and the like. Any direct help would of course be fantastic, but barring that even some help on the basics as I try to sort it out would be great.
    1. Is the viewer in PSE7 dependant in any way on having Premiere installed?
    2. What other programs could possibly be interfering with PSE7s ability to show video? Is there a way to troubleshoot something like that without ‘Uninstall other software first….’
    3. Is there a codec pack I can download or buy that would solve these issues? I don’t mind spending a bit more money, just want to get it to work.
    4. Can anyone suggest a Photoshop Elements website or book that deals with video issues such as this, or have people who deal a lot in watching videos within PSE7 itself. Every time I try to search for PSE7 and ‘video’ or ‘movie’ I am inundated with links to generic training videos etc. And the 446 page Adobe PSE help PDF was no help, neither was Kelby’s PSE7 book. 99.999% of the info out there that I have been able to find deals with pictures not video. I understand most people use PSE7 for photos, but I like to use it to organize my videos as well.
Any help, any at all, that can be given, even if its just pointing me in the right direction, would be great.

Maybe there are compatibilty issue between the PSE7 and PRE3.Try upgrading PRE also.

  • Problem importing videos into iPhoto 9.5 on Mavericks.

I have had Macs and iPhones for years but I have never used iPhoto until now.   I am trying to import a large collection of pictures and videos into iPhoto 9.5.  Pics import well, but for videos (avi, mp4, mov, etc) I get an error message "The file is an unrecognized format" and then I get a list of hundreds of videos that have failed to upload.  These videos are mostly ones taken with iPhones.  I have tried a few things and have even resorted to creating a new library, but the same result each time.   Anyone have suggestions?

I launched iPhoto while holding down option, I deleted the old library in finder and created another but the same thing happened. In my case the exact same count of 554 avi's and mov's weren't imported. It lists the files that
weren't imported in a scrollable window. I opened a few of the listed files in quicktime without issue.

  • N85 - interesting problem watching videos

    Hi Guys,
Daft question - but when I'm watching videos (either mp4's or self-shot) the screen goes dark like when you have the keypad locked (bit like power saving mode) - except it happens when the keypad is unlocked or locked, watching landscape or portrait at anytime.
It's been doing it ever since I've had it (over a year) & it's annoying but wondered if there was a bug or a workaround as I'm trying to watch The Pacific and it's quite dark already.......
    SW running: 31.002
    Thanks

First thing to try is disable Hardware Acceleration (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/891337).
If that does not fix the issue, please post some details (operating system, browser, Flash Player version, ...).

  • Problems importing video to iPhoto

I know that in order to import video into iPhoto, I just follow the same steps as for importing photos. However, when iPhoto recognizes my camera, it says that there are no photos on my camera, and so refuses to import anything. If I take a picture, it will show up with 1 photo - but then will import just the photo, not the videos. Thoughts?

iPhoto 4 does not support importing video at all. That's only available with iPhoto 5 or later.

  • Problems watching videos stored on TC

I recently moved my video library from a firewire external hard drive to my new TC (dual band). My movies are stored as .avi files (ca. 700mb) and I watch them using VLC. Now, when watching files stored on the TC the video pauses, and has other inconsistent viewing errors that happen approximately every 1-2 minutes and last for less than a second. It is very annoying-and not a product of the file. When i move the file to my desktop it plays just fine.
Is this a problem anyone else has seen or knows how to fix? It seems like maybe the TC is not broadcasting a consistent signal over wireless or that the internal HD of the TC has errors.
    Thanks

Welcome to the discussion area, LC 630!
The Time Capsule's drive was designed primarily as a destination for Time Capsule backups, not for primary storage for files that will be accessed on a regular basis. In other words, the Time Capsule does not function very well when called upon to work as a media server.
If at all possible, I would suggest connecting the Time Capsule to your computer using an ethernet connection to see if performance might improve with that type of setup.
Please let us know how the ethernet connection works if you elect to try this.

  • Watching videos on iPhoto 11

    Hi
I recently upgraded to iPhoto 11. With my older version of iPhoto I was able to pause the video I was watching and then hit the right arrow button on my keyboard to advance the video frame by frame. I can no longer do this with iPhoto 11, when I pause my video and hit the right arrow button on my keyboard iPhoto advances to my next video. Does anyone know if iPhoto still allows this function? It was great for viewing some of my videos in slow motion without having to go to iMovie.
    Thanks!

Try using the Control+Right Arrow(➙) combination. Does that give you a single frame advance?

  • Problem Watching Videos Online

About two or three days ago, I started having trouble viewing videos online from Youtube and others.  It seems not to matter which website I try, but the video will start and stop every 10 seconds or so, buffer some more, and then start playing again, stop again etc.  I tried using different browsers and it had no effect.  The browsers are not causing the problem.  It's obviously not the individual websites either.  So I suspect it's something in OS X, but I don't know what.  The first browser I had the problem in was Chrome, and I tried clearing the cache----no effect.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Well I think I found the problem.  iIhave a wireless router, and I had lost the connection.  I just noticed my Menu bar wireless icon was almost greyed out completely.  Two or three days ago I had restarted the computer, and I believe that had something to do with it.  The videos seem to play just fine now.  I was still getting internet though, because it seems I was picking up the signal from one of my neighbor's routers in the same building I live in that's not password protected.  Just a much weaker signal, and that is what was causing the erratic video viewing.
Thanks for your time anyway if you read this.

  • Problem watching videos

I recentely tryed to wathc a video using safari on my mac book pro off of NBC.com.  the video was a full length show the advertisements played but the actual episode never played.  Is this because the website was trying to access my internet connection info and safari blocked it?  i was able to get the video to play off of firefox.   Does anyone know why this happened?

No idea, however run through this list and especially OnyX routine, that shoudl clear out the corrupt cache file and make your Safari work again.
