Problem when migrate MS Exchange to virtual machine

Hi,
I have a SMTP node defined in my Solution Manager which send mails to external MS Exchange host without problems.
There is a project for migrate Exchange to a virtual machine. When I modify the SCOT configuration for send mails to new virtual host, i get an error connection message.
I check the exchange relay for my SAP machine and it looks right. There is no problems with net connections between sap system host and exchange host.
Is necesary any special configuration or adaptation in SAP when migrate exchange server to a virtual machine???
Thanks for all.

  • Exchange Server Virtual Machine Move

    Hi team,
Here's my focus area. There's an Exchange Server 2010 (Hub/CAS/MBX) in a virtual instance(Hyper-V 2k8 R2). Everything is running smoothly, except the engineer who deployed it had taken a snapshot after 2 months of use which is dated in 2012. Since then no
back-up has been taken and is running without an issue.
Now, they want to move all the virtual machines into a NEW physical server. All the other VM's are to be Exported and Imported. However, with Exchange 2010, I want to know if the Export > Import theory will work.
    My concerns are;
Is the snapshot taken in 2012 going to be an issue when Exporting and Importing?
Since both Active Directory and Exchange are virtualized, will exporting these two make any issues?
What would be my best option if Export > Import is not going to work?
As the last place of resort, I'm thinking of adding a ADC, make it Primary. Then add a secondary Exchange Server, Move mailboxes, Calendar, connectors n then, demote the second one. But it's going to be a lengthy task.
    Thank You.
    Chris!

I wouldn't use snapshot for Exchange 2010 (and thus Active Directory) as those are point in time restore which will bring you back to the time when it was taking and will lose the data or all updates since then...
Besides snapshot is not supported in Exchange 2010 as mentioned here... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj126252(v=exchg.141).aspx
Some hypervisors include features for taking snapshots of virtual machines. Virtual machine snapshots capture the state of a virtual machine while it's running. This feature enables you to take multiple snapshots of a virtual machine and then revert
the virtual machine to any of the previous states by applying a snapshot to the virtual machine. However, virtual machine snapshots aren't application aware, and using them can have unintended and unexpected consequences for a server application that maintains
state data, such as Exchange. As a result, making virtual machine snapshots of an Exchange guest virtual machine isn't supported.
Install Exchange on physical server and move mailbox, connector and all other services from Virtual to Physical and then uninstall Exchange from Virtual server properly. I know it is lengthy process but gives you peace of mind as no data or change lose...

Yes, definitely check your zoning/masking.  Remember that with vHBA you have twice as many WWPNs to account for.  Performing a live migration makes use of both pairs during the transfer from one host to the other - one set is active on the machine
currently running and the second set is used to ensure connectivity on the destination.  So if you are using Address Set A on Host1, Host2 will try to set up the fibre channel connection using Address Set B.  If you do a quick migration, you would
continue to use the same Address Set on the second host.  That's why you most likely need to check your zoning/masking for the alternate set.

  • Problem in ACS 5.2 on Virtual Machine

    Hi Everyone !
I have a problem with the interface on the ACS 5.2 , The inferface work fine but going down unexpectedly and only if I make (for example) a ping to the default gateway it come back.
Please somebody can help me ??
    Regards.
    Rodrigo

We say that it's not tested by cisco, You will be able to install ESX 4.1 just fine but there might be some issues with services/processes . In that case TAC won't support those issues. Vsphere is a Vmware  managment tool. ACs 5.x doesn't support/run on vspehere. ACS 5.3 should  officially support ESX 4.1
    Virtual Machine Requirements
The minimum system requirements for the virtual machine must be similar  to the CSACS-1120 Series appliance hardware configuration.
Table 6-1 lists the minimum system requirements to install ACS 5.2 on a VMware virtual machine.
    Table 6-1     Minimum System Requirements
    Requirement Type Minimum Requirements
    CPU
    Intel Core2; 2.13 GHz
    Memory
    4 GB RAM
    Hard Disks
    500 GB of disk storage
    NIC
    1 GB NIC interface
    Hypervisor
    VMware ESX 3.5 or 4.0
Note You  can use VMware Server 2.x only for an evaluation version of ACS 5.2.  For an evaluation version, the disk space must be between 60 GB and 500  GB. Evaluating ACS 5.2
For evaluation, ACS 5.2 can be installed in a VMware Server 2.x virtual  machine or a VMware ESX virtual machine. When evaluating ACS 5.2, you  can configure less disk space in the virtual machine, but a minimum disk  space of 60 GB is required.

my understand is: "we can use Hyper v, instead of Virtual box or as VMware player". I think in windows 8, hyper v server is not installed. does that is the problem? Why do we use it ?
Actually I wanna configure Kernel Debugging over Virtualized COM port. So what can I do next ?  please help me...
Note: Virtual Machine Management service  is running.

    Hi mrCracker,
    >>am using windows 8, 64 bit system inside VMWARE in Ubuntu 14.04 .
If I understand correctly , it is nested installation .
    Windows Hyper-v is bare-metal hypervisor  .
Please try to install win8 on real hardware then enable hyper-v to install VM .

  • HT3231 Migration Assistant and vmware virtual machine

I would like to use Migration Assistant to move my information from a MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air. Before I perform that, I would like to make sure I  don't migrate any problems in the new machine.
How do I choose for example NOT to migrate the VMWARE virtual machine in my older MacBook Pro so that the new MacBook Air becomes lighter?
    Thanks

During the setup of your MacBook, it will ask you to restore a backup, so choose the option to restore data from another Mac and follow its steps. You will be able to choose what you want to restore.
If you haven't modified anything, VMware stores virtual machines in Documents folder, so the only thing you have to do is to untick the Downloads folder and the virtual machine won't be migrated to the MacBook Air. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/SetupLion.html
If you are going to migrate applications, it's important to check that they are compatible with Mountain Lion. PowerPC applications aren't compatible and you will be wasting space if you transfer these apps

  • TNS listener problem when migrating access app to oracle

I am migrating an access 2000 DB and application to oracle 8i. I have done this successfully on my test machine many times. I am working on the customers machine, and the problem is when I go to migrate the access application, it will not connect to oracle b/c of the TNS listener. The workbench tool ask for a username, pwd, and ODBC driver, but there is no place to put the oracle service name. I ran into this problem at home and I appended the service name onto the password with the '@' symbol, which works for oracle anyway. Like this, 'pwd@sname'. It worked at home, but I keep getting an error here that tns could not resolve service name. When migrating the data, there was a field to put the service name in, but not for migrating the application. I have tried variations in the ODBC driver also, but with no luck. Any other ideas?

    Hello,
Is it possible that odbc driver is nor properly installed? If so you may have to re-instlal the odbc driver. If not try out the following steps:
    * Go to DataSources [On win2k: start -> settings ->control panel ->Adminsitrative tools -> Data Sources (ODBC)]
    * Click Add for the user DSN [say "testDSN"], and select oracle driver here [check if you have oracle 8 driver, if not you may want to install one]
    * In the "Oracle ODBC Driver Configuration" window, give you your oracle databse connection details, click the "Test Connection button", it will ask for username and password, give system's username and password
    * Use this DSN [testDSN] name in the migration work bench
    Thank you and kind regards,

  • ODBC Problems with SQL Server 2012 on Virtual Machine

I am having problem with my application after my IT department upgraded to SQL Server 2012 with error "ConngetDataToModify.vi:1"<ERR>Object 0x2222222 is not valid.  I have 4 servers running the same executable without problem before the upgraded. However, after the upgrade 2 of these Server are having the problem with the ODBC connection. Here are my setup, the application was created using LabView8.5, we have 2 physical server box running Window Server 2003, 2 Virtual Machine on Windows Server 2008, and a Virtual Machine with SQL 2012 Server. The 2 physical server running the executable without a problem after the upgrade, but the 2 Virtual Server were unable to connects to the ODBC connection. Anyone have any idea why this is happening , it is the problem with compatibility between my application with Server 2008 and SQL 2012 Server, or is there a problem with both beings Virtual Servers? As I said, the 2 physical Server seem to be running without any problem with the upgrade.

My guess is that the problem is not specifically with LV. This should be relatively easy to check if you create a UDL file and double click it. This opens a Microsoft wizard which allows you to configure and test DB connections (the UDL file itself is basically just a text file which holds a connection string). If it doesn't work there, it won't work in LV.
As for what the actual problem is, a common culprit is the firewall, which is easy enough to check by disabling it. Another option is the surface area configuration of SQL Server, which will not allow network connections unless you tell it to.
It should probably also be noted that LV 8.5 is not officially supported on Windows Server. I'm assuming that's not the issue, but be aware of it.

  • Problems with Disc Permissions for Java Virtual Machine

    hi,
My machine (10.6.6) crashed. I had the spinning beach ball.
Force Quit and On/Off did nothing.
I needed to unplug and remove the battery to restart.
After that, I did Repair Disk Permissions.
It finds a bunch of things for Java Virtual Machine/1.6.0/jdk
    It says it fixes it.
But if I reboot and and run Repair Disk Permissions again,
it still finds the same problems.
How do I get it fixed?

    Hi,
these permission errors are normal. There's nothing to be worried about. If you search around (you did search around first, right?) you'll find that most, if not all, Snow Leopard users see these messages.

  • Problem installing SCE 2010 on a virtual machine

I'm having issues while installing SCE on a clean Hyper-V virtual machine running Windows 2008 R2.
    I've tried several options:
    - all-in-one from scratch, no SQL or serverroles/features installed -> error 1603
    - seperate SQL and SCE Management Server -> Management server installation fails, error 1603
Different variations including and excluding reporting and VM Management with the same results.
I then went and tried to install tbe Management server on a physical box -> success!
However, I can't use this box for SCE and need to virtualize the whole thing.
I'll dig through the SCE setup log files to see where it goes wrong.
In the mean time, any ideas/suggestions anyone?

    Hi Guys,
I am having the exact same issue. I have verified all prerequisites and can find absolutely nothing I am doing wrong with regards to what is prescribed in the guides. I am also trying to install SCE 2010 on a Hyper-V guest on Windows Server 2008 64Bit. I
tried several times and troubleshooted my way through all the blogs. This is what I have done:
    Re-imaged the server (twice),
Verified NetBios and FQDN is similar,
Opened all required ports first and also disabled firewall eventualy,
    Using Domain Admin account,
Removed ISS and reinstalled(SCE still complaing IIS needs configuration),
Removed ISS again and let SCE setup fix prerequistes (SCE still complaining IIS needs configuration),
Also below please find my exact log... The sucess of my SCE 2010 installation is VERY KEY for us, but I believe for the product team as well. We are busy building an Enteorise Management Architecture in a hosted/multi-tennant environment and at this moment

  • Setting up Time Sync when all domain controllers are virtual machines?

We have 2 existing server 2008 domain controllers on 2008 Hyper-V.  We plan to set up a third domain controller in a new AD site at a remote site that will be Server 2012 R2 on 2012R2 Hyper-V.
PDC role DC is on one of the DCs in the original site.
How should time syncing be set?
From what I've read, all Hyper-V time synchronization between the virtual domain controllers and their Hyper-V host should be disabled.
So, do we set up the PDC virtual machine to sync to an external site source and then expect the other 3 domain controllers to automatically sync with the time of the PDC?
What happens with this process during a PDC reboot or if that PDC role domain controller becomes unavailable for any other reason? Does one of the other DCs then take over the role of domain time source even through they don't have access to the external
    time source?
Should we also turn off Hyper-V time syncing for every Hyper-V guest that is a member of our domain (since they should also be getting their time from a domain controller) or only turn off the Hyper-V time sync for the domain controllers alone?

We have 2 existing server 2008 domain controllers on 2008 Hyper-V.  We plan to set up a third domain controller in a new AD site at a remote site that will be Server 2012 R2 on 2012R2 Hyper-V.
PDC role DC is on one of the DCs in the original site.
How should time syncing be set?
Simply make sure that time sync is disabled on your Hyper-V VM. For time configuration in AD domain, I have documented that here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18573.time-synchronization-in-active-directory-forests.aspx
From what I've read, all Hyper-V time synchronization between the virtual domain controllers and their Hyper-V host should be disabled.
So, do we set up the PDC virtual machine to sync to an external site source and then expect the other 3 domain controllers to automatically sync with the time of the PDC?
They don't take over the role of PDC. The downtime of your PDC should not take a long time. That is why it is important to regularly monitor the health status of your DCs using SCOM or third party tools. The one I usually recommend is
Lepide Auditor - Active Directory: http://www.lepide.com/lepideauditor/active-directory.html. The solution allows you also to trackchanges
    in your AD domain.
Should we also turn off Hyper-V time syncing for every Hyper-V guest that is a member of our domain
(since they should also be getting their time from a domain controller) or only turn off the Hyper-V time sync for the domain controllers alone?
I would recommend turning off the Hyper-V time sync on all your Hyper-V VMs that are domain-joined.

  • Error when try to power on virtual machine after creating

I created the virtual machines from the virtual machine templates in the OVM server Manager console. After creating, status of the virtual machine turned to be power off. Then I tried to power on it. But it prompt error as "     failed:<Exception: no server selected to run vm('/OVS/running_pool/18_Test01') mem_size=1024>".Then I check the /var/log/xend/xend.log. I can found messages of "VmError: HVM guest support is unavailable: is VT/AMD-V supported by your CPU and enabled in your BIOS?".
How should I deal with this error?
    Thanks a lot,
    Mary

Please check whether your box support fully virtualized guest or not beforehand. There are two main requirements for the hardware virtualization is to be enabled in a system:
    1. BIOS should be setup for virtualization
go to "BIOS Setup" to enable "Virutalization Technology"
    2. The CPU should support virtualization
check the keywords( "vmx" for Intel cpu "svm" for AMD cpu) from /proc/cpuinfo

  • An error occured when trying to start the virtual machine

I am getting an error whn trying to start an hyperv vm. The error is shown attached. any idea?

    Hi,
Please confirm you dismount that guest VM disk first and did you install the AV soft on Hyper-V host? If yes, also please try to disable the AV soft then try to start the
    guest vm again.

  • App store and apps problem when migrated

I am going to ask this here because Apple support has not been able to fix this.
    Old computer = iMac core 2 duo 2.4GHz 10.6.7
OK so I just bought a new iMac quad core i7 2.93GHz (2010 model on closeout) and from the start I selected to migrate from a time machine backup. Took a long time but worked (well execpt for this problem).
So one thing I noticed after the backup was that there was no app store program installed. I then noticed the OS that was on the machine was 10.6.4 (pre app store). So I did the upgrade and and it's now at 10.6.8.
Problem is the apps won't load (click and nothing happens, click on ones in dock and it bounces once then nothing). So I load up the app store and log in, seems to take my login OK but won't let me do anything like make a purchase or do an update to an older app. It tells me they were purchased with a different account when I try to update and tells me I don't have a valid account when I try to purchase.
Well it's a good account and I went back to the old computer signed out and back in with the 'exact' same info and it works fine on that computer, even did the update to the program that was older"
Called Apple support, ran me through a dozen things (I could tell he was running out of ideas) and he finally said it must be a problem with your account (I seriously doubt it as I use the same account on the old computer, a laptop and 2 'i' devices with no issue).
I think it has something to do with the fact that the migration happened when the OS was older than the app store.
Not sure what to do but I would like to be able to use the apps I purchased and be able to purchase more in the future.
    Any ideas?

Well looks like the fix was to download the stand alone 10.6.8 updater and re update the OS.
