Problem when using own domain name

Hi,
I recently updated my site and gave it a fresher look. I have my own damian name and use iweb and mobileme to host it. the site works fine but the one problem i have is that no matter what page I view of my site it always says my web address in the address bar. For example my site is thecarpetfitter.co.uk. It this site I have 7 pages plus some pages of photos. Now when i'm viewing my about me page the address bar still only says the main site address not thecarpetfitter.co.uk/about me. It does this for all my pages. It's a problem because nobody can bookmark an the actual page they want only the first pages that loads up (welcome page). How can I change this?
cheers

It sounds like you're using Forwarding rather than CNAME to link to MobileMe. See this article for the difference in the browser address bar:

  • New issue breaking Gmail when using custom domain name

I have been using my own domain name in conjunction with Gmail since the launch of Gmail.  The use case is fairly straightforward -- I have my own domain name and have created an email address alias on this domain ("custom email address') that forwards email to my Gmail account.  I have configured Gmail to override the From field with this custom email address.  With this configuration, Gmail is happy.
On my Z10, I had created a Gmail email integration account via the Advanced Settings with my custom email address in the "email address" field and my gmail email address as the username with the appropriate gmail server settings.  When I continue from the advanced screen, I was taken to the Google account login screen where I grant permissions for my BlackBerry to access my account.  On this screen, I logged in using my gmail email address.  This worked fine and I received email without incident on my Z10 since I bought it on the Feb launch date ... until this past weekend.  My Z10 then suddenly reported that my settings had changed and nothing I could do could convince it to accept the above settings as correct.
If you have a similar configuration and have noticed recent issues, there is a solution.  This new "issue" appears to be that when you log into the Google permissions screen during the BB10 email account configuration process (i.e. the Google login page after you enter all the server settings in Advanced section of BB email account setup), you are no longer allowed to enter a username that differs with the custom email address you are setting up.  It won't ever tell you that this is the problem.  You just get a vague email settings error at the end of the process and you can't get your mail.  It is possible that Google is the one who introduced this glitch, since the solution is within your Google account configuration, not BlackBerry.  Simply put, you must associate your custom email address with your gmail account login within Google.
To do this, log in to Gmail using your usual gmail address.  Click on your Gmail address in the top right corner, select the "Account" link in the drop down.  Click the "Edit" link to the right of the Email heading.  At the bottom of this edit page add your custom email address in the field next to the label "Add a new alternate address".  After you add it, you will need to verify this address via an email that will be in your Gmail account.  I probably should have done this long ago, but never had the need to until now.
Now you can get BB email working again.  Go back to the BB10 account settings page for your Gmail account.  This time when are kicked over to the Google login page to grant permissions to your BlackBerry to access your account, use your custom email address as your Google username and use your usual Gmail password.

    Amazing, Thanks !

  • Using own domain name , duplication of web address HELP !!

    Hi all,
Although this is not a big problem it is quite annoying. I am currently building website within Iweb 09. I have managed to set up my own domain name with no problems at all. The only thing is I get a duplication of my website name on the browser here it is :
I would ideally like to just have *http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk*
Anyone have any ideas on how to do this ??
    cheers
    T

One way would be to use standard domain name forwarding (not CNAME) and enable masking. That would put http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk in the URL window of ALL your pages. The downside to that is visitors can only bookmark your first page which may or may not be a problem. My tutorial site, http://toadstutorials.info , is set up that way.

  • Using own domain name on Business Catalyst / Muse

I have a 'complete plan' subscription to CC and I believe 5 free sites with Business Catalyst.
From checking this forum and FAQ it appears I should be able to link a domain name I currently own to a BC site so my URL drops the businesscatalyst.com element of the name. I have changed teh NS to ns1.worldsecuresystems.com  (and ns2 / ns3) and the next stage is to go to Site Settings and enter the doman name.
My problem is where do I find the menu Site Settings as I can not see it within Muse?
    Peter H

    Hi Peter
The settings to add the domain is not with Muse but in Business Catalyst domain settings.
You would need to publish the site first to Business Catalyst and then make the site live.
After performing the steps you can add the domain.

  • How do I use my own domain name  with Mac server with iWeb

For a number of years I have had my own domain name that when typed into a browser it would redirect the browser to my site on the .Mac server. I hear with iLife ’08 I can have my own domain name hosted by .Mac so I know longer have to have the long addresses for each pages the I have now for my site (i.e. the http://web.mac.com/thewildhearts/WildheartPhotography/NatureGalleries.html). How do I go about getting my domain name (wildheartphotography.com) so that Mac will host it and do I need to notify the current host that Mac will be hosting my site now?
Thanks. I really appreciate the help I get from this forum.
    Pat

It's very easy, really. You go to your domain control and redirect the address. IPower, for example points the domain name very easily: you just type in the URL of your site and it will point to your mac server.
I've used GoDaddy before and it is a bit more difficult to "point".

  • Using my own domain name

I'm thinking of changing my broadband to BT infinity.
This a warning I'm consistently getting from others...
"If you're looking to move to BT I'd strongly recommend you get e-mailed confirmation that the service they provide will allow you to send e-mail out from your own domain name, as many of the consumer BT packages don't allow this, forcing you to use a BT based address. Clearly not suitable considering you have your own domain etc."
Can anyone confirm that using another providers SMTP is permitted, and will work?

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
Not sure where you got that warning from, as in general it's not true.
The only thing that is true, is that ISPs typically prevent access to their smtp servers when not connected to the ISP, and if using a non ISP email address - that needs extra steps to be able to send using the ISP smarthosts (e.g. mail.btinternet.com).
"Home ISPs" are different to specialist domain sellers.
I use BTinternet and my own smtp server name for my domain without any issues.
It actually depends how your domain name has been set up and whether it's just a name, and not specifically using any associated smtp server.
In this case, you need to go through something called address verification (with BTinternet) and associate a domain email address with the BTinternet email address (e.g. see my shortcuts - link below - option 0e).
You typically can't use mail.yourdomain etc as the smtp server, unless that's been specified as part of your domain package - usually at extra cost as you would be using the domain seller's servers.

  • Error message when publishing to MobilMe using GoDaddy domain name

    Hi all,
I am trying to publish my site from iWeb '09 to MobilMe. I am using a domain name purchased through GoDaddy. When I publish the entire site in iWeb, it seems to publish fine, but when I click to "visit site", I get a page with an error message, "Looking for something on MobileMe?
The account you requested doesn't exist or is currently inactive. Please make sure the URL is spelled and capitalized correctly, and try again.
MobileMe Login | MobileMe Support | Learn more…
I have checked my login info, etc. I have no idea why this isn't working. Any thoughts???
    Thanks so much - Chris

That Vist button has been a problem for others also. Why, I don't know. Try using the File ➙ Visit Published Site menu option. That has worked for me when the Visit button wouldn't.
If that menu option works you can try the following to see if you can get the Visit button to work:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Using your own domain name on your Verizon personal website

If you go to the Verizon Site-Builder page and then click FAQ, you read this for #13:
    13.  Can I use my own domain name?   Answer:  If you own a domain name and would like to use it as the main address of your site, you will need to make arrangements with your domain name provider to redirect visitors to your Verizon Online mysite.verizon.net address from your current domain name.
Verizon Online does not currently offer personalized domain name registration, but we are working on providing this option to you in the near future.  Updates will be provided on the Site Builder home page, so check back often.
The above statement has been listed for quite some time.  Does anyone know whether this option is now available?  (There's no updated statement about it on the Site Builder home page, and there is no one to ask!)

  • How do i use my own domain name with creative cloud?

how do i use my own domain name with creative cloud?
i don't want to post web pages from behance.net. i want to use the domain name i have for my material. is there a hosting service for this? if not, can someone give me some pointers so I can publish?
    thanks!!
    Lori

http://forums.adobe.com/community/behance is where you would ask about publishing to "something else" from that program
I use OLD Dreamweaver, and upload my HTML with an FTP program to my own web site... I will GUESS you can do that, if you can save HTML to your hard drive to then be able to upload to your web site

  • What is the point in this "BScatalyst" if can not use your own domain name?!

the marketing of adobe BScatalyst is a enigma for me. What is it? when you can´t use your domain name?!

I think you need to do a lot of research and a lot of reading.
The point is: adobe has NOTHING TO OFFER besides the software (muse) for
    developing a site.
Sorry to repeat this a lot but your not correct here as well.
Muse came recently and is a simple tool to help get people into making sites from the graphics and design industry basically. BC Has a full template, layout and code system:
    http://docs.businesscatalyst.com/dev-assets/reference#!/module-reference/photo-galleries/m odule_photogallery.html
It has API Access, it can be developed using any coding software from Dreamweaver to Coda 2. This for many is the primary method of creating BC websites and has been for years, even before Adobe purchased the BC company.
It is always being updated as you can see with the new rendering engine and liquid markup:
    http://www.businesscatalyst.com/bc-blog
The point is the CC atracts amatures, like my self, to devope sites, but
they have NOTHING to offer on the hosting side of the work.
Sorry, but none of this is correct. CC is a service created by Adobe to take all its software into the cloud, it is not just there to develop sites. In terms of storing your work in the cloud that is one of its primary functions. Ignoring BC and websites you can store your files, PSD's through your Creative Cloud account.
Your post was put under moderation automatically by the forum software because how you posted it. The caps will do it.
everything above here are without ANY interest for the common amateur muse developer. Why do you think we use muse?!
I communicate, I read and know a lot of Muse developers, Again your not correct here as well. Sorry for repeating this but this again simply not true and pretty much everything you have said so far is that.
A lot of Muse users develop very nice looking but basic in function websites, there are a lot who would like to do more such as eCommerce etc, you are not the norm in your thinking off what everything is from CC, BC and the web.
CMS me here, SAAS me there, and business analysis me over again. IT IS OF NO INTEREST FOR US MILLIONS OF MUSE USERS!
Again, this is not true. Most of the posts I see from Muse users is how they do more with BC and many want and ask how to upgrade their CC BC to offer more features. The Creative Cloud version of BC is the VERY BASIC version of it, it does not have most of the abilities it has if you have one of the higher plans.
    See here:
US Yearly Pricing | Adobe Business Catalyst
A complementary product to Muse is HOSTING!
Creative Cloud is Adobe moving into the Cloud space for their products and services, Muse is an entry level designer based peace of software to create basic websites. Business Catalayst is what you do not want to research into and hosting is just storage basically.
    Adobe Business Catalyst
In terms of your website, people make sites just for family etc and put them on the web, Real domain or not you can build a site for what ever you want. But its a website and will be out there on the web. Search engines like google will index such sites so if you do not want them out there on the internet do not create them to make them available.
I do not mean to be rude, but your comments are not valid and going no where. You not really understanding what anything is, your complaining about things are not true or things that you think do not exist when they do.
I have been developing sites on the Business Catalyst platform for over 5 years and using other coding platforms and other CMS's for longer then that. I am considered one of the people outside BC who know the platform for the most so please trust in what I am saying here.
If you want just hosting just use Creative Cloud or something like dropbox.
If you want to learn more about the web or building sites etc I suggest you go lean, there are many great resources out there.

  • Using your own Domain Name

This is what I have as my url now...
    http://web.me.com/seanfahey/Black_JackPress/Welcome.html
I'm trying to put in my own domain name that I purchased from GoDaddy.com. Please help!
    Much appreciated.

You need to enter your domain name into your MobileMe account first - log in under System Preferences and then go to the Personal Domain name settings and enter your domain name in here.
Then go to the DNS settings at GoDaddy and set up a new CNAME with your alias as your domain name - 'www' that is then forwarded to web.me.com which is your host.

  • Income email set up using company domain name

Ive just jumped ship from PC to Mac (lion) and im trying to set up my email account. My company has its own domain name which appears to be the problem and although outgoing mail is working ok (o2 broadband) i just cant configure incoming. Ive used the same Pop3 and SMPT info as on the PC but it just dosnt like it. This must be a common problem but i dont seem to be able to find any threads that explain, im also surprised that Apple didnt explain when i purchased the unit as they had my email address which clearly shows the domain name?
So i would be obliged to know if anyone has a solution?
    Many thanks
    Kind regards
    Lusso

I had the same problem and discovered that I had to migrate to the new ATT email service powered by Yahoo.  I had received notices each time I went into by bellsouth email account that I needed to migrate by following a procedure provided and was asked whether I wanted to do that "now" or "later".  I always chose "later".  Then Saturday, when I got my Pre, I had the same problems you had and even wnet back to the Sprint store and the Palm rep could not figure it out.
So, I returned home and decided to migrate to the new ATT email platform.  After that, I used the Pre email setup routine and had no problem.  I now receive by bellsouth email on the Pre and can send replies to email I receive.  I have not tried to send new email directly from my Pre yet.

  • Can't seem to get my own domain name to work

First of all I'm sure this has been asked a lot so apologies if it's a repetitive post I'm just at the hair pulling stage!
Well. I've had no issues joining mobile me (joined a week ago) and publishing my site from iWeb.
But then I wanted to get my own domain name.
(i got it from 123-reg.co.uk just in case that is is anyway significant.)
This is where my question becomes a bit "Balloon" shaped.
When setting my CName on 123-reg I was asked to enter info into two boxes. (That seemed to tally with the help files I have read.)
I entered web.me.com into the first box and my domain name into the second. I'll just call it for now www.mywebsite.co.uk
Then it asked me to enter my website IP which I located by using one of those pages you can type a domain into and it searches...
Sorry if this is dumb but does that sound about right?
    Some questions-
-Is it correct to put www.mywebsite.co.uk as well as web.me.com or should it be something else?
-Would there be any mobile-me issues while I'm still on the free trial?
-Are some domain name providers incompatible with mobile-me?
-And if I change the CName with the registrar should I delete and reconfigure myown domain in my mobile me-account?
If anyone could enlighten me they would basically be my new hero!
    Thanks.

    Oh one more thing..
When asked for the IP of your website does that mean the IP of your own website or the host (being Mobileme of course? i.e. the IP of www.web.me.com/mywebsitetemporaryname or me.com?

  • How to publish custom web site with own domain name?

Hey out there. I wonder if anyone can give me any tips on how to publish a web site with my own domain name.
I have a web site I'm building and I want to purchase a domain name and then publish the site using that domain name.
I know how to buy a domain name. I have a .mac account so I'm hoping that .mac can host the site. What I don't quite understand how to do is get .mac to host the site using that domain name. I looked through Apple Support but couldn't find what I was looking for. Just wondering if anyone has been in this situation. Thanks in advance.
    Dave
    [email protected]

Dave ~ Welcome to the discussions. .Mac was re-branded as MobileMe last July. If you're not building your site with iWeb, it's considered to be a "custom" website. These Apple docs may help:
MobileMe: How to publish a custom website
iWeb ’08: Using your own domain name
...Use this search page to find such documents:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=search
Note that you don't need to have iLife '08 to be able to direct your domain name to your custom website published to MobileMe. As someone wrote on another thread:
"My personal domain is linked to my MM but i don't even have ilife on my mac. When you go to the options in MM to link your personal domain to your MM it provides directions that will guide you with setting up your godaddy settings."
    ...Where "MM" is MobileMe here:
    http://me.com/account
...+Personal Domain+ tab, and "godaddy" is wherever your domain name is registered.
