Problem: Windows knows the iPod is connected but iTunes doesn't

I know there is a section at the Apple Support place. I've tried that but it hasn't worked. I also checked these forums, but the ones I've seen havn't helped me either. I've also called Customer Support, but the answer I got hasn't worked and right now the Customer Support is not answering. So I've decided to find my answer here.
I have installed the latest iTunes and iPod Updater. I've also followed the directions to uninstall iTunes and reinstall. When I open iTunes, there is a popup that looks like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/soccah/ipodprob.jpg
I've also tried the 5Rs (Restart, reinstall etc.), which hasn't worked. The iPod is not on drive C:, it's on drive S: --so that's not the problem either.
I have songs on iTunes, I just can't download the songs onto my iPod. I have the new video iPod and my brother has the iPod nano--both of them don't work and we've tried switching the USB cables--still doesn't work.
Can somebody help me? Please? Thanks!

Okay, I've called customer service twice and neither has worked. First time, they told me to uninstall and reinstall--I followed their directions exactly and it didn't work.
Second time, they told me to uninstall and reinstall with disabling popup blockers and virus scanners. Still didn't work.
HELP PLEASE!!!!!! I REALLY WANT TO LISTEN TO MY IPOD!! NOT JUST PLAY THE GAMES AND FIDDLE! THANKS!!

We have downloaded apps to our pc but we can't get them on our ipod touch.  We have synced our ipod to our computer.  We can't even get them when we are some where there is wifi.  We don't have wifi at our home and was hoping to be able to plug it into our computer and get everything from our computer to our ipod but it doesn't work.  What do we do?

Sync them from your iTunes library:

Note that you can only sync apps from the one syncing computer/library that yo can have. If the iPod was synced to another computer/iTunes libary or set up via wifi then to make this computer/itunes library your syncing computer/library:

  • I have synced my new ipod but no music is stored on ipod but is when the ipod is connected to itunes

    Hi
I have transferred cds to itunes and followed instructions to sync ipod. It went through a long process syncing music to devise then said it was completed however no music is on the ipod even though when the ipod is connected to itunes when you open up the ipod from the menu options on itunes and click on music all of the music is there. When connected it also says used and free space and the used space correlates to the music downloaded.
If you try to re-sync is tries to synch, disconnects and then an error message appears the ipod "Emma's iPod" cannot be synced. The required disc cannot be found.
I have tried re-starting it and restoring. I'm now ready to throw the thing out of the window - can anyone help so that I don't waste £200!! I wonder if it is faulty?
Thanks to anyone who is able to reply

Nope.  You can report the theft to the police, and that's about it.

  • My car stereo, an Alpine CDE-121, won't recognize my iPod mini.  I get an Error 02 message indicating that I need to update the iPod's software, but iTunes tells me that the software is updated.

Is this particular car stereo stated as being compatible with your iPod Mini?  If you aren't sure, check the manufacturer's support site or give the car stereo manufacturer a call.

  • Why won't my iPod work on iTunes or my computer?  It shows up (not on iTunes) and the iPod shows connected but it has to be "formatted." And why are half my songs unable to play on it anymore?  It just skips them!

I've read through several discussions and I've seen a lot of similar issues but none that were quite like mine.  Every time I plug my 3rd gen. iPod nano in it shows it connected on the iPod screen and iTunes opens up but the device does not show up in iTunes.  The icon on the iPod shows connected and gives the arrows circling showing syncing even though it still says connected.  But it won’t show up in iTunes.  It shows up on my windows computer but I can’t click it or make it do anything.  It keeps saying “You need to format the disk before you can do anything.”  And when I hit cancel it beeps and says "Location not available.  Dara error (cyclic redundancy check)."  As if I know what that means!!  And I have 800 songs on it but they aren’t all on my computer and some are on my parents’ computer but I can’t get to that one.  It shows it is a “FAT32” which I have no clue what that means but I’ve never noticed that before.
Windows "can't access the disk" and I don't know why.  It gives me that notification if I try to check the drive or disk or device for problems.  And if you click it on Windows it pops up a screen with formatting things (which I don't know anything about).  And then it closes and says that it CANNOT format the device.
The iPod works almost okay when it isn’t plugged in, but I’ve noticed that half my songs won’t play.  You click on it and it plays the next one in the album.  And it isn’t always the first song in an album but random songs.  And songs I listen to a lot.  You can’t go back (you can only go forward and you can’t skip over the ‘missing’ song) or even click to select those songs.  But other songs play normal, just not half of them that are on the iPod but all of a sudden no longer work.  And I don’t know why.  I have another 3rd gen. iPod nano that doesn’t have ANY of these problems.  It hooks up, it doesn’t need formatting, and all its songs play.  I don’t know what is wrong or what to do.  I’ve tried re-downloading iTunes and everything.  I don’t want to have to reset my iPod and lose everything.
I’ve tried locating the device in iTunes and it shows the iPod but it gives this weird symbol and I can’t select it.  It’s like a white box with a box that is outlined in blue with six random icons in the middle.   I’ve seen it before and it always means something is wrong or a file (which is where I have seen it before) is corrupted.  And like I said I have a second iPod nano of the same generation and it does not give this weird symbol.  Plus it connects just fine.  It’s this one iPod.
I don’t understand what is going on.  It worked just fine and then all of a sudden I noticed songs wouldn’t play so I went to plug it into iTunes and nothing has worked.  I’ve searched discussions and none of the tips help.  But I want my songs to play again and I want my iPod back.

  • When I clicked on the Newest version of itunes something happened and now when I try to access the itunes store I get an error (-32-12) and it says to check my conectivity.  I have three ipods and the problem is with the on line connection with itunes.

After I clicked and downloaded the newest version of itunes I no longer am able to connect with the store. I get an error (-32-12) and it says to check the connectivity. The problem is with the on line connection. I attempted to reload itunes , still the same problem exists.

    ... and that's a new one that I wasn't expecting ...
Okay ... lets try a complete uninstall/reinstall as per the following document:

  • IPod says "Connected" but iTunes does not recognize

I plug in my iPod, it says "connected - eject before disconnecting", but iTunes does not show ANYTHING saying it recognizes or sees my iPod... Anyone know what I need to do? I restarted iTunes already and reconnected my iPod, not working...

Try resetting your iPod. This is probably different for different generations of iPod, but you can find the correct procedure in your manual. For mine, I first must flip the "hold" button on the bottom of the iPod to red and then to normal. Then press and hold the center of the click wheel and the top (menu side) of the click wheel simultaneously for 10 seconds. When I release the unit rests. It takes a minute or so. Then connect the iPod and iTunes will find it. If it still doesn't work properly try selecting "Restore" on iTunes while the iPod is connected.

  • I have the iPod Touch 3G but iTunes won't recognize it when I connect to my Windows 8 computer

So I have the iPod Touch 3G (5.1.1 version) and I had just recently updated my iTunes library to the 11.1.4 version. Ever since, every time I connect my iPod to my computer (I have Windows 8), my computer recognizes it but my iTunes does not. How can I fix this problem? I really hope this version of iTunes is not compatible with my ancient iPod because I really don't have money to go out and buy a newer iPod. It doesn't have to do with the amount of storage in it because I have the 32GB version and I have 16.8GB available. If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Windows freezes when ipod is connected but charges fine-HELP!

I've had my 80GB ipod video since October. Its never frozen before or anything like that.2 Days ago,I connected it to the computer and a few seconds later, the computer froze.Ever since, everytime I connect it,Windows freezes.I don't think there is a problem with the USB cable because it carges fine on my plug and also after the computer freezes,it keeps charging but no "Do Not Disconnect" on the screen.Thing is,it says "Do Not Disconnect" before th computer starts and then it stops and charges as soon as the Windows XP logo comes up and then the computer doesn't even start, freezes at the Windows XP screen.Help would be much appreciated.
    Thank You
    Ian

Usually theres no need for this, cuz when you uninstall iTUnes it does not erase the iTUnes Library, nor any music on the PC.
That said its always a GREAT idea to back up your music regularly. Apple covers this on there site by using iTUnes to burn backups on CD, but it doesn't include backup of the all important iTunes Library file that contains all the playlist rating playcount Ect ect here it is tho http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93033
Long as you have all your music in one folder like "My Music" you can just copy it to an external Harddrive. that will backup all the music AND all the iTUnes librarys and crap since its in the "My Music" folder by default

  • Audio book bookmarks will be deleted if the iPod touch connects to iTunes

    Hello everybody,
since I updated my iPod touch to OS version 3.0 the bookmarks of my audio books will be deleted if I connect the player to iTunes.
It´s really very annoying because it isn´t easy to find the location on the audio book I stopped before. So I have to write down the chapter information before connecting to iTunes. In some cases I forget it and I must begin to search. Even everybody who hears audio books knows that this is difficult and mostly you hear a passage ones more.
I have searched for a feature like it but I can´t find a function in iTunes which controlls this behavior.
I will be very grateful if there ist anybody who helps me. I have wrote this problem in some german forums but without any success. It seems that I am the one and only person with this problem.
Please excuse if there are any "language-bugs" - I am a german guy.
    Thanks for help!

You will only lose your iCloud data, That includes iCloud backup, iCloud Contacts and Calendar, Reminders, Notes, everything listed in Settings>iCloud

  • Ipod is connected, but Itunes says its not

Ok. So I just bought an 8gb 3rd generation nano. I've had the first gen nano since it came out and have never had a problem with itunes or charging or anything. I plug in the new nano and though its charging and the f drive says the ipod is there, iTunes says that there's no ipod connected. This is really frustrating. What do I do?

Thanks this worked a treat, spent over an hour trying to get my daughters 2nd generation nano to work with itunes after upgrading.
