Problem wit auto response on my .mac mail -- keeps sending.
I set up an auto response for my mac mail address. I then sent myself an email to see if the auto response was working. It works, except it works like spam. It just automatically kept sending me email after email after email, up to 20 of them. So I closed out my email on my computers, then reopened, and they started auto sending again.
I've been having an issue with mail doing this. I had an app on iPhone and then deleted the app. I kept getting automatic mail sent to me that was like I sent an email to THEM, except I never did. I would get up to 250 emails as fast as they could be sent BING BING BING BING.
Happens anywhere I get .mac and .me mail.
Anyone know why the auto responder went whacko? LOL
Thanks
So, if I'm understanding correctly, you're not currently having this problem, but did before you set up iCloud? Or is your old MobileMe auto-responder still functioning, but not showing up in iCloud in Mail's rules or vacation message settings? If the latter, you'll need to contact Apple about that, so they can fix it on their end.
I don't remember how it worked in MobileMe, but in iCloud, you can set up some very basic rules and there is a separate setting for a vacation message. An auto-responder provided by the server like that ought to be okay-ish. It shouldn't create mail loops, since the people who wrote the code for it know their stuff when it comes to e-mail protocols. However, if you used a rule that you created yourself (which doesn't look possible on iCloud, as there's not a "reply" action), that could cause mail loops.
Of course, even the best auto-responder is only okay-ish, because there are going to be messages that you get that you wouldn't want it to reply to, but it's going to anyway. Like spam that didn't get caught by spam filters.
As to the forums, I'd guess this would be best posted in one of the iCloud forums, probably the iCloud on my Mac forum. I can ask the hosts to move this topic there, but in the future, what you want to do is go to the home page and scroll down to the list of "communities" (ie, forums) and select one first.
Thanks for the info on how you posted... many of us regulars have been wondering why so many misplaced posts have been showing up in this forum lately! That's valuable information that we can use to alert the hosts to a potential problem with the interface of the site.

mac mail keeps sending emails from my different accounts even though it says correct email in "sent" folder and correct email account was highlighted. Recipients reply and it goes to different email address. So confusing and annoying.
Hi Mike,
I had the same issue and managed to solve it.
Go into Mail>Preferences>Accounts
Then in the account information tab, at the bottom should be outgoing mail server (SMTP) and click the drop down box
Mine had a few different servers in it so i went into edit SMPT server list. Click advanced and it will tell you which ones are going from which email address.
Delete the ones you dont want, and it should work or instead of deleting click use only this server, i imagine that will work to
Hope This Helps

The interactive responsiveness of my Mac Mail has gone to **** since I installed Lion last week. I can type a whole line ahead before it echos the characters. What's with that?
Is spotlight finished re-indexing?
If it is not a drive problem, maybe it is a runaway application. This article shows how to use Activity Monitor to check for that:

A have new problem that has appeared in my Mac Mail. When I type a frequently used email into the 'To: line' it populates the correct name but with 8 different email addresses not associated with that name. I have gone to the window pop-down to 'previous recipients' and deleted that addressee as well as all the email addresses it is assigning to that name. I have also deleted the account entirely from my address book. I have have run repair permissions and also full defrag in iDefrag. Still the problem persists. Any suggestions?
Hello CarolineLongEaton,
I noticed you posted this problem quite a while ago and wondered if you managed to have it fixed in an alternative way then posting here. It is too bad no one has posted a solution here. I have a similar problem and if you have had yours solved since this occurance how you accomplished it may help me with mine. I am interested to know what you have done about yours.
If you are interested in comparing the problems to see if your solution (if you have found one) might help me also then here is the link to the discussion.

If your problem has not been solved then I will comment here again if/when my issue is resolved as it may help you too. My hope here is that we may help each other. To quote you "all ideas gratefuly recieved". I hope your problem was resolved, ernestly for your sake and selfishly for mine also. I wish you and yours a great day!

Help setting auto response rules in Apple Mail
Hi,
I am trying to setup an auto response for my Apple Mail. I need to configure my mail account to automatically respond to someone when they email me. However, if that individual were to email me again, they would not receive a response because one was already sent. I know this may be slight confusing so I included a step-by-step outline below:
1. I receive an email from a client
2. An auto response replies, "Thank you blah, blah"
3. The same individual sends me another email
4. No automated response because one has already been sent to this sender.
Thanks again for anyones help and or direction!Mail does not have such a feature. I'm not even sure there's a third-party solution for you, but check at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Hey Guys,
i'm just a bit helpless. Mac Mail keeps crashing every time i open it... the problem appears once a week and i have to reset all my accounts including my exchange-account.
Thats realy bad and it costs me hours to fix this problem once a week. My App terminates itself directly after it started up.

Can anybody help me please?Do a backup.
Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail. Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.
Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder? I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder. Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks. I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages. If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad. -

when I am sending one message, mac mail shows sending several (6 last time), is it virus?
mac mail also freezes from time to time and closes for no reasonIt is not a virus. It's a bug in Mail that fails to reset that count, so it keeps incrementing each time you send a message. When it says it's sending 6 messages, that really just means you're sending the 6th message since you last opened Mail.

How do I stop Mac Mail from sending an unauthorized "Out off Office" reply to several, not all, of my associates emails? Only happens with me.com mailbox, not Earthlink. Am not getting some important e-mail from brokerage and business associates.
If Earthlink is unaffected it is probably a settimg in me.com. Log into me.com account in a browser such as Safari (will get icloud.com) and select the settings (gear) icon bottom left, and then click on the airplane icon. Make sure vacation setting is unchecked.

Mail keeps sending messages before I'm ready
My desktop Mac (Intel) keeps sending my messages before I'm done with my mesage
This smells like a permissions issue, and it cannot be fixed repairing permission with Disk Utility.
Well, I looked up the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded
files to see if they were being written to and saved
(updated). Basically, I was just checking the last
saved dates on them.
And the result of looking at them was?
And there were only 3 POP folders
where these MessageUID files were in.
These files are what Mail uses to keep track of which files have already been downloaded. There should be either one or two of them in each POP account. What you're saying indicates clearly that there is a problem with these files.
Does the multiple downloads problem happen with all accounts or only with the one that lacks the MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file? -- sorry if you already knew this, but just to be sure, to know which account a "POP-" folder is associated with, just look at the folder name. It's formed by appending the account username and the incoming mail server to the account type (POP).
In the Finder, select the account folder that lacks a MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file, and choose File > Get Info (⌘I). Under Ownership & Permissions, are you granted "Read & Write" access. Expand Details. Are you listed as the owner of this folder?
Note: There are several bugs in the Finder that make troubleshooting this kind of problems harder that it should be, and you may end up reading wrong information and/or incorrectly "fixing" non-existent problems if you play too much with it. If your problem ends up being a permissions issue, are you willing to troubleshoot it using the CLI in Terminal? -

How do you sync the auto-complete facility in mac mail from one device to another?
Hi - Autocomplete in mac mail works fine on my macbook pro. I just got a Mac Pro and it want to do the same but it doesn't. It seems only to read the addresses in my address book and not memorize any of the ones from the "TO" field in Mail? Thanks....
As Studio X pointed out, you open a huge can of worms when you work with sequences of different specifications, but try this -
once the clip has been pasted into the sequence, click on it on the timeline so that it is selected. Now Control-click on that clip, and from the drop down menu, choose Remove Attributes.
When the remove attributes pane opens, check the box for Basic Motion and Distort (if they are not grayed out) and click OK. This should reset the clip size.
If this is successful, you can do this to multiple clips all at once by selecting them, then clicking on any one of the selected clips and doing the above.

Help!! Mac Mail I send is showing up as spam, or not at all(!!)
I am sending email from Mac Mail, but it's regularly showing up in other people's inboxes as spam or not at all - especially when there are attachments or links of any kind. (Even just an MS Word File.) The problem got so bad that I switched ISPs (from DSL to cable), because I could never tell who has received what - especially bad professionally!! - but that didn't help.
Same problem: Lots of people saying, "No, I never got that email from you."
The weird thing is, sometimes the same person will get some pieces of email from me and not others. And seriously - no weird attachments or files here; most of my emails are no more than a paragraph long and they're all text.
So what's going on? And what can I do??
I'm on an older MacBook, running 10.5.8, but I just got a newer MacBook Pro. Holding off on transferring everything until I get this figured out, because I wouldn't want to bring the same problem onto the new computer.
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated...
JenYes, but did you check your present IP, or the last one?
I'm also wondering if it could have anything to do iwth the fact that I have very big inboxes & sent mail boxes.
Not likely.
Wasn't sure if rebuilding my mailboxes might help - my mail program isn't finding files properly either.
Not likely to do with the sending problem, but...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist. -
Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. Over the last week I've been having trouble with Mac Mail for the first time. Mail itself opens ok, then I can literally send one email or send and receive once before the spinning colour wheel appears and the app freezes up. I have to force quit and try again.
I've tried repairing permissions from the OS disc and this hasn't made any difference? Anyone any ideas?
Thanks in advance.tyeardley wrote:

This may not help, but I'd select each mailbox and use the menu bar item Mailbox -> Rebuild to rebuild each one. If you have more than one e-mail account, you'll have to open each mailbox with the "disclosure triangle", then select an individual mailbox.

There are large classes of Mac OS X problems where repairing permissions doesn't help at all.
