Problem with a number of applications hanging up

Hi,
I am running a Dual G4 1Ghz mac under OS X v10.2.8
Certain applications have now started crashing including iDVD, System Preferences, Print Center. The crash occurs when I attempt to do anything with the menu bar on the the top of the application's window. If I go to save a file under FILE save I immediately get a spinning beach ball. The only option left is to force quit the application.
Other applications like Photoshop, InDesign and Iphoto do not display this error.
Any ideas as to what can cause this?
Thank you in advance

Adding to what Peggy said:
AppleWorks (and the Mac's) numerical precision limit is 11 places, so when you entered the 14 digit account 'number', it would be displayed either as 31003913250000 (in standard form, rounded to the 11th place) or as 3.100391325e13 (the same 'number' in scientific notation).
I've placed single quotes around the word 'number', because for mathematical purposes an account number, like a UPC or an ISBN, is really a label, not a number. It's not used for any calculations beyond the comparisons used in sorting. As a label, it should be entered as text (in the various ways suggested by Peggy).
One additional method is to split the 'number' into two sections, each of them shorter than the 11 digit limit, then use a formula to rejoin the two as a single string of characters.
Example:
In cell A1: 31003913
In cell B1: 249809
In cell C1: =A1&B1

Hi Pete. The repair of disk permissions can help resolve  any application crashing or misbehaving.
As for Lion and the two camps, I think that is a reasonable observation. In my office we have about a dozen Mac's and about one third of those Mac's had problems after updating from 10.6 to 10.7. The main problem for these Mac's was a loss of wifi stability. But for the other two-thirds, Lion was a smooth transition.
Personally, my Lion experience was fine. But I did get a new i7 MacBook Pro with Lion already installed and only had to migrate my user data from a 10.6.8 TM backup.
So I think that is a key for Lion's operational success. A clean install of Lion on a new Mac would not cause too many operational issues. But an installation, or more correctly, an update to Lion from SL increased the chances of failure for some users - especially when old software & plugins resided on the Mac. And I would say that they were the people that you saw at the Apple store.
As for the "latest release of Lion fixed my problems" statement, my experience with these and other forums is that people mostly only go there to complain about the problems they are having. If they are having no problems then they either keep it to themselves or they try to help the users who are experiencing trouble...

In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
    * Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
    * Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear
You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.
    * Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    * chflags nohidden ~/Library

  • Problem with ClassCastException in web application

    Hello,
I'm trying to deploy a web application in WLS 5.1 and I'm getting the
"dreaded" ClassCastException every time when JSP tries to read a bean
from the request or session. Under my architecture (actually it's just
the regular "model 2" ) bean is populated by a servlet, set on the
request and then retrieved by JSP (servlet forwards to JSP). Everything
work fine when I register servlets in weblogic.properties, but
ClassCastException is thrown on any attempt to read from the request if
the same JSPs and servlets are deployed as web application.
Has anybody come across the same problem?
              Thanks in advance for help.
              Alexander

    Hello,
This is all well and good as a temporary bug, but it's totally unrealistic for
              the future. Two points:
              * The ClassLoader doesn't need to be discarded, it just needs to be cleared.
              * Other servlet engines seem to be able to handle this.
Hope it's on its way to resolution!

  • Problem with layout in Web Application Designer

    Hi all,
I am working with the BEx Web Application Designer. Well, I execute a web template in the browser, click on right button and  choose enhanced menu, query properties and mark the check box Display Rows as Hierarchy and Expand to and from the list of values (combo-box) choose the last field that can be expanded.
Once all the lines have been expanded and the layout of the template is longer than a page, we look for a line that is not in the first page and contract it. The problem is that when we contract the line, the layout shows  the first page, instead of the page where the line had been contracted. I have tried to solve this changing the properties that appear when the template is designed, but I haven´t found the solution. Is there any way so that i can solve it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mª del Mar Bonilla.

    Bonilla,
    Welcome to SDN...
    Try this out...
In the Query designer view , right click on the rows structure and select display as hierarchy. In case this option works fine , the behavior pointed out by you could be a possible bug.
Just update the result of what I have mentioned above...
    Hope it helps..

  • Problem with installFolder in air application

hi! happy new year !!! enjoy for 2011!!!
so i have 1 little problem with  <installFolder>
i need to install my app in documents directory...
    is possible?
    i put my path:  <installFolder> C:/Documents and Settings/Utente/Documenti\</installFolder>
    but nothing . . .  why??
    help.....

It seems you are doing right thing. But what could possible is , on Siteminder Policy Server, there is Parameter called ACO that will have a definition for Logging off url . Its LogoffURI parameter. Unless it is set , though you clean up the session in browser when user click on logoff url, the session is still available on siteminder policy server cache. Thats why when user access the application url within the same browser window he is getting application pages. So check with siteminder administrator on your end...
