Problem with a ratio

Greetings Gurus.
I have a problem with a ratio, this  load in BW, but when reporting it in the BEX Analyzer, this is well-off, for example in the cube I have 83.7, in BEX gives 84, this ratio this associate to a unit of measurement, if somebody can help to solve this problem me I will thank for it.

hi,
can try to set decimal point for that keyfigure(s) ?
2 ways :
1. in infoobject keyfigure maintenance (transaction rsd1), tab 'additional properties' >> 'business explorer' >> decimal places
2. from BEx Analyzer, change query >> right click your keyfigure >> properties >> number of decimal places

  • Panasonic sdr-s150 / problem with aspect ratio

    Hi all,
I'm about to purchase the sdr-s150 as it fits my needs regarding size vs. picture quality. Before doing so I wanted to make sure that footage from the camera can be edited with the all new imovie 08. And here's my problem with that.
I downloaded some 16:9 sample footage out of the internet and imported this into imovie 08. The icons imovie creates in the import and project areas are all looking good regarding aspect ratio. In the project settings I choose aspect ratio 16:9 and 'fit to frame' (don't know the exact setting in the english version) for the clips being added to the projects.
The preview of the clips and final export know shows black bars at top and bottom and the footage ist squeezed together.
I already tried sdcopy and ran the clips through this before importing into imovie 08. No change.
Any ideas ? Please also feel free to comment on the quality of the footage of this camera once processed through imovie from your point of view.
    Thanks,
    JasperJunker.

    hey there Derek100,
i've experienced the same thing w/ FCP & iMovie (in NTSC). it's that the FCP easy set-up is "anamorphic", which is a 4:3 image made to appear as 16:9 & so that is how FCP works w/ the image. i really have no other explanation. i suppose if you create a custom set-up, you could eliminate the bars @ the top & bottom. there should be something in the Manuals, though i don't know where--i've never looked. sorry not to be of more help, but now i'm gonna investigate for myself.
    good luck.

  • Cam Optia problem with aspect ratio.

Hello, i bought a subject camera today. And when i try to chat with my friend through some online services, which capture image from cam with 76x44 resolition my friend see video picture with incorrect aspect ratio (stretched up and down).
Also i have similar problem with 352x258 resolution.
How can i solve this problem?
P.S. My friends, that have another camera, didn't face to this problem.
    Thank to all!

    Any capture shots to see?

  • Problems with aspect ratio metadata filtering, am I doing things wrong?

    Hi,
I tried to filter out all my pictures in a collection that has a portrait aspect ratio but LR is doing it all wrong.
As you can see, there is a mix of landscape and portraits even though portrait is filtered.
I tried to look at some of my other collections and see if this was an isolated issue but found that I have the problem here and there.
    Found this example:
Even though the dimensions in the EXIF-info on the right says 3456x2304, LR thinks that the picture is square.
Could I be doing something wrong here or could I somewhere help LR on the way or is it a bug of some sort? I'm using LR 3.3 on a Mac with Mac OS 10.5.8
    Thanks in advance,
    -Jimmy

Many thanks. Didn't think of that but I cropped all the wrong pictures to landscape and then did a reset to the crop and that did the trick. There were almost 4000 pictures wrong so I'm glad that I could use the auto-sync feature to do it faster.

  • Problems with aspect ratios on export

    Details:
CS4 PPro with all current updates
    Win 7 64bit machine
Editing using the DV NTSC widescreen 48kHz sequence settings. Pixel aspect ratio 16:9 (1.21)
All of my graphics and video looks fine in the preview window as you can see in this screen capture. That logo is round.
Here's where the problem arises, when I export it to Adobe Media encoder it also appears to look ok.
But once the clip is exported and I playback the .mov file the video is squeezed and the logo is now oblong.
Not sure what to do as I've edited this entire video and do not have time to start over from scratch.
Here's the screen capture of the file in Quicktime. It does the same thing if I export it as an avi and play it in WMP.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the workflow to sort this out.  (Note : QTPro)
Open your mov in QT Pro
    Show Movie Properties (Ctrl-J)
    Click on Video Track
    Click on Visual Settings Tab
Un check the Preserve Aspect Ratio box
(Here is where you now need to do some math to change the 4x3 to 16:9 ratio) 16 divided by 9 = 1.7777 (1.78 is close enough)
Divide the Vertical Pixel Dimension by 1.78 and enter the result in the Vert Dimension box
Ensure the Preserve Aspect Ratio box is UNCHECKED
Hit Tab key and notice the image in the QT window change.
In the QT Window Menu - File>Save
    Heres an example:
    QT movie Original is 320x240
    Divide 240 x1.78 ( ie. 240/1.78=134)
Note- It is important to SAVE. This process is only changing the Header flag info in the QT file.
    Bingo!

  • A slightly different problem with aspect ratio and DVD Maker

I am converting VHS movies to DVD. All are 4:3. Using Microsoft Movie Maker, I create the desired final result, a WMV file that plays perfectly--aspect ratio, sound, whatever.
The problem comes when I use DVD Maker to create the DVD. The picture gets squeezed pretty much to a square (from the 4:3 original). DVD Maker correctly shows 4:3 as the desired ratio.
Ironically (considering the solution offered in several similar posts), when I convert that WMV file to AVI, and _then_ use DVD Maker, all appears fine. My only complaint at this point is that the result is "window-boxed." That is, there is large black space
    on all four sides.
I see nothing in DVD Maker to adjust (in hopes that the original WMV might work for me), but just thought I'd ask.

    Hi,
There’s similar thread discuss the DVD maker for 4:3 or 16:9 you can refer:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpromedia/thread/cd5edb7b-a4dd-43c9-ae95-20ac5692b2c6
And I find someone has submit it as a bug to our website, if our development team recognize it was a bug, they will fix it on next update.
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Problem with aspect ratio

    Hey everybody
Back with another question, this one also a beginner question, but I'm extremely puzzled by this problem. I'm editing my movie and in the source window the picture shows up just nice, however in the program, source window the picture is small on both sides. I have a sense that it is the fact that Premiere will only let me export in 720 x 576, but I'm not sure and it's very anoying losing material like this, since every shot is different than intended.
Is there some way to change this?
I'm working in Adobe CS3 Trial, until I get my CS4 version. Can this problem be helped in the new version or where did I go wrong?
    Thanks
    Jeppe

It sounds as though you have a mis-match between your Project Preset and your source footage. I believe that the two Monitors that you are referring to are your Program Monitor Panel (displays the footage on the Timeline, per the Project Preset) and the Source Monitor Panel, that displays the source footage. If each is set to 100%, they *should* display the same, if everthing matches.
Check your Project Preset (how you set the Project up, initially), and then in the Project Panel (where all of your Assets are shown) Rt-click on one of the "faulty" Assets. Choose Interpret Footage, and see what the listed specs are. You can make changes there. You can also Rt-click and choose Properties, if you just want to check these Assets' Properties. No changes can be made there.
My guess is that you will find a disparity between the Project and the Assets. You might be better off creating a new Project with Presets to match your footage. This is always the best approach.
    Good luck,

  • Problem with the cache hit ratio

    Hello,
I ma having a problem with the cache hit ratio I am geting. I am sure, 100% sure, that something has got to be wrong with the cache hit ratio I am fetching!
    1) I will post the code that I am using to retrieve the cache hit ratio. I've seen about a thousand different equations, all equivalent in the end.
In oracle cache hit ratio seems to be:
    cache hits / cache lookups,
where cache hits <=> logica IO - physical reads
    cache lookups <=> logical IO
Now some people use the session logical Reads stat, from teh view v$sysstat; others use db block gets + db consistent gets; whatever. At the end of the day its all the same, and this is what i Use:
    SELECT (P1.value + P2.value - P3.value) AS CACHE_HITS, (P1.value + P2.value) AS CACHE_LOOKUPS, P4.value AS MAX_BUFFS_SIZEB
    FROM v$sysstat P1, v$sysstat P2, v$sysstat P3, V$PARAMETER P4
    WHERE
P1.name = 'db block gets' AND
    P2.name = 'consistent gets' AND
    P3.name = 'physical reads' AND
    P4.name = 'sga_max_size'
    2) The problem:
The cache hit ratio I am retrieving cannot be correct. In this case i was benchamarking a HUGELY inneficient query, consisting of the Union of 5 Projections over the same source table, and Oracle is configured with a relatively small SGA of 300 MB. They query plan is awful, the database will read the source database table 5 times.
And I can see in the physical data statistics of the source tablespace, that total Bytes read is aproximatly 5 times the size of the text file that I used to bulk load data into the databse.
Some of the relevant stats, wait events:
db file scattered read     1129,93 seconds
    Elapsed time: 1311,9 seconds
    CPU time: 179,84
    SGA max Size: 314572800 Bytes
And total bytes read: 77771964416 B (aproximatly 72 Gga bytes)
the source txt loaded to the database was aprox 16 G
Number of reads was like 4.5 times the source datafile.
I would say this, given the difference between CPU time and Elapsed Time, it is clear that the query spent almost all of its time doin DB file scattered reads. How is it possible that i get the following cache hit ratio:
    Cache hit Ratio: 0,92
    Cache hits: 109680186
    Cache lookups: 119173819
I mean only 8% of that Logical I/O corresponded to physical I/O? It is just not possible.
    3) Procedure of taking stats:
Now to retrieve these stats I snapshot the system 2 times. One before the query, one after the query.
But: this is not done in a single session. In total 3 sessions are created. One session two retrieve the stats before the query, one session to run the query, a last session to snapshot after the query.
Could the problem, assuming there is one, be related to this:
"The V$SESSTAT view contains statistics on a per-session basis and is only valid for the session currently connected. When a session disconnects all statistics for the session are updated in V$SYSSTAT. The values for the statistics are cleared until the next session uses them."
What does this paragraph mean. Does it mean that the v$sysstat only shows you the stats of the last session that closed? Or does it mean thtat v$sysstat is increamented with the statistics of each v$sessionstat once a session terminates? If so, then my procedure for gathering those stats should be correct.
Can anyone help me sort out the origin of such a high cache hit ratio, with so much I/O being done?

    Hi,s
first of, let me start by saying that there were many things in your post that you mentioned that I could no understand. 1. Because i am not an Oracle Expert, i use whatever RDBMS whenever i need to. 2. Because another problem has come up and, right now, i cannot inform myself to be able to comprehend it all.Well, could it be that you need to understand the database you are working on in order to comprehend it? That is why we strongly advise you to read the concepts manual first, you need to understand the architecture that Oracle uses, as well as the basic concepts of how oracle does locking and maintains read consistency. It does these different than other database engines, and some things become nonsense if looked at from the viewpoint of a single user.

It would be useful to see the execution plan jhust in case you have simplified the problem so much that a critical detail is missing.
    First, the query code:
    2009-10-20 15:11:59,141 INFO]: OUTPUT_GOBLER:>SQL> CREATE TABLE FAVFRIEND
    [2009-10-20 15:11:59,141 INFO]: OUTPUT_GOBLER:> 2 NOLOGGING TABLESPACE TARGET

    [2009-10-20 15:11:59,141 INFO]: OUTPUT_GOBLER:> 13 ;
Now, Althought it is clear from the query that the statement is executed with the NOLOGGiNG, i have disabled the logging entirely for the tablespace. There are certain rules about nologging that may not be obvious. Again, this derives from the basic Oracle architecture, and if you use the wrong definitions of things like logging, you will be led down the primrose path to confusion.
    >
Futhermore, yes, the RDBMS is a test RDBMS... I have droped the database a few times... And I am constantly deleting an re-inserting data into the source database table named PROFILE.>
I also make sure do check all the datafile statistics, and for this query the amount of RedoLog, Undo "Log", Templife used is negligible, practically zero.Create table is DDL, which has implied commits before and afterwards. There is a lot going on, some of it dependent on the volume of data returned. The Oracle database writer writes things out when it feels like it, there are situations where it might just leave it in memory for a while. With nologging, Oracle may not care that you can't perform recovery if it is interrupted. So you might want to look into statspack or EM to tell you what is going on, the datafile statistics may not be all that informative for this case.
    >
Most of the I/O is reading, a few of the I/O is writing.
My idea is not to optimize this query, it is to understand how it performs. Well, have you read the Concepts manual?
I have other implementations to test, namely I having trouble with one of them.
Furthermore, I doubt the query Plan Oracle is using actually involves tablescans (as I I'd like it to do); because in the Wait Events, most of the wait time for this query is spent doing "db file scattered read". And I think this is different from a tablescan. Please look up the definition of [db file scattered read|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/instance_tune.htm#sthref703].
    >
Do you really have to use sessions external to the query session ? Can you query v$mystat joined to v$statname from the session itself.
No, I don't want to that!
I avoid as much as possible having the code I execute being implemented in java. Why do you think java has anything to do with this? In your session, desc v$mystat and v$statname, these are views you can look at.
When i can avoid it I don't query the database directly through JDBC, i use the RDBMS command line client, which is supposed to be very robust. Er, is that sqlplus?
So yes, I only connect to the database with JDBC... in very last session.
Of course, I Could Have put both the gather stats before query and gathers stats after query a single script: the script that would be also runing the query.
But that would cause me a number of problems, namely some of the SQL i build has to be implemented dynamically. And I don't want to be replicating the snapshoting code into every query script I make. This way I have one sql with the snapshoting scripts; and multiple scripts for running each query. I avoid code replication in this manner.Instrumentation is a large subject; dynamic sql generation is something to be avoided if possible. Remember, Oracle is written with the idea that many people are going to be sharing code and the database, so it is optimized in that way. For SQL parsing in particular, if every SQL is different, you get a performance problem called "hard parsing." You can (and generally should, and sometimes can't avoid) use bind variables so that Oracle doesn't need to hard parse every SQL. In fact, this is one of those things that applies to other engines besides Oracle. I would recommend you read Tom Kyte's books, he explains what is going on in detail, including in some places the non-Oracle viewpoint.
    >
Furthermore, Since the database is not a production database, it is there so I can do my tests. I don't have to be concerned with what other sessions may be doing to my system. There are only the sessions I control. No, there are sessions Oracle controls. If you are on unix, you can easily see this, but there are ways to see it on Windows, too. In some cases, your own sessions can affect themselves.
    >
then what it the array fetch size ? If the array fetch size is large enough the number of block visits would be similar to the number of physical block reads.
I don't know what the arraysize you mention is. i have not touched that parameter. So whatever it is, it's the default. You should find out! You can go to http://tahiti.oracle.com and type array fetch size into the search box. You can also go to http://asktom.oracle.com and do the same thing, with some more interesting detail.
    >
By the way, I don't get the query results into my client, the query results are dumped into a target output table.
So, if the arraysize has something to do with the number of rows that Oracle is returning the client in each step... I think it doesn't matter. You may hear this phrase a lot:
    "It depends."
    >
As for the query plan, If i am not mistaken you can't get get query plans for queries that are: create table as select. What?

    Explained.
    JG@TTST> select count(*) from plan_table;

This query plan was taken from sql developer, exported to txt, and the PROFILE table here has only 100k tuples.
Right now I am more concerned with testing the MODEL query. Which Oracle doesn't seem to be able any more... but that is a matter for another thread.
Regarding this plan. The Union ALL seems to be more than just a binary Operator... IT seems to be Neray.
The union all on that execution plan seems to be taking as leaf tables 5 99sono.Profile tables, and be making a table scan to them all. So I'd say that the RDBMS should only scan each database block once and not 5 times.
But: It doesn't seem to be so. IT seems like what oracle is doing is scanning completly each the table, and then moving on to next select statement in the UNION ALL. Because given the amount of source table that was read, 5 times greater than the size of the source table. Oracle didn't reuse read blocks.
But this is just my feeling.Your feeling is uninteresting. Telling us what you really hope to accomplish might be more interesting.
Anyway, in terms of consistent gets, how many consistent gets should the RDBMS be doing? 5
One for each table block? It depends.

  • SOP: Problem with ratios in Info Structure

    Hi,
I am defining an Information Estructure (Ap: 41 - Logistic in General) and I have some fields in some tables I would like to include as ratios in my structure.
Well, I would like to include the field "MATKL" of the table "MARA" as a ratio in my structure. The problem is that I cannot find it in any field catalogue and if I try to create my own new field catalogue, there is not any chance for selecting the mentioned table (MARA).
We would be very grateful if someone could help with this problem.
Thanks in advance and best regards.
PS: I have the same problem with the fields "MATNR" and "WERKS" of the table "MSSA".

    Hi,
Create your own field catalog using the required field and table.

Sounds more like a problem with your Display Resolution than iPhoto.
Go to: Apple / System Preferences / Displays and in the Resolutions list select,

  • Problem with Imovie and IDVD 16:9 aspect ratio

I've recently converted to a mac. The main reason for this was to take advantage of the superior video / dvd editing capabilities. However, I have hit upon a problem with the aspect ratio of the final video.
I have connected my video camera (a sony DCR-HC42E PAL which is in theory 16:9 aspect ratio) and imported the DV tape into iMovie. It recognised that this is a DV widescreen (i.e. 16:9)movie and imports the video and then "letterboxes" the video for some time. In the clips window it then shows each clip as it should in a widescreen mode.
I have created a final video then exported this to iDVD for burning to a disc. When it arrives in iDVD it is however elongated - i.e. 4:3 aspect ratio.
Is there any way of avoiding this / working around this problem?
I understand that my camera may not be videoing 16:9 but rather 4:3 then converting it itself - but in previous windows environment this was fine and the pre-loaded free windows movie maker software managed to cope with this - can a mac?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Brilliant!
Thank you very much. I've spent the last 4 hours trying to solve this and also spent a good half hour on to apple care, not even their "teir 2" imovie experts in san fransisco could solve this problem - you are a star!!!!!
I was just about to throw the mac through the window and revert to windows - you have restored the faith!
I've done as you said (although the "auto pillerboxing tick is in "import" tab (not general) on my version 6.0.3 of imovie!) The movie has appeared in 16:9 format as suggested.
I would also comment that for general information, I pressed on with the higer frame setting and edited the full movie with the wrong setting on the macbook all the way through which looked weird - then burned a dvd via idvd and used the 16:9 setting as you suggested and the final video looked fine - therefore, the only place where the movie is incorrect was on the mac screen.
Overall I would agree that this is definatly a imovie "glitch". Thanks again.

  • Aspect Ratio problem with Premiere Elements 10

I had old super 8 cine film transferred to video for me in December 2011 and put
it onto a Blu Ray disc as AVCHD files.
The disc is copied onto my computer and displays in the correct 4;3 aspect
ratio on the Desktop and plays correctly in VLC media viewer.
I have Adobe Premier Elements 10, but the video is “squeezed” narrow, e.g.
a circle displays as an oval in Monitor, Timeline and Sceneline views.
When I save the work to a disc it is also “squeezed”.
Pictures/footage from my Sony AVCHD video camera display correctly on the
Desktop and I have not had the above problem when editing it in Premier
Elements 10. I have also edited 4:3 photos and 16:9 video aspect ratios together into
    without problems
I would be grateful (and relieved) if you can tell me how to fix this
    please.

Thanks to people who showed an interest and replied.
Thanks especially to Kevin at digitacopycat who pointed me towards a workable solution within a couple of hours of posting the problem.

  • Genius needs to help! problems with my video card and system

Hey guys! I'm going to post my specs first so that you get a good idea of what I'm running on:
    MSI Neo2 LS 865PE.....MAT=Slow
    Pentium4 2.4C.....FSB=233=2.8C hyperthreading enabled ~>1.55V
Corsair TwinX 1gig PC3700.....memory on "AUTO" in BIOS with timings at 3,4,4,8 ~> 2.7V
    Radeon 9700NP.....stock speeds ~>1.7V
AlienX case with 2 fan400 watt power supply and 6 case fans
    Zalman Alum/Copper heatsink fan
1:I've had this motherboard for a few months now. I upgraded my video card from a nVidia Ti4200(128meg) to a Radeon 9800 a month ago, but I couldn't get it working at 8X AGP, no matter what voltages I threw at it. I returned it for a Radeon 9700NP hoping that it would work, but it still won't.
I'm using BIOS 1.9 and since there is no option to select your AGP speed, I could only try using ATI's drivers. Once booted into Windows, there is a slider you can move to select you AGP speed. On my machine It says that It has performed some tests and has concluded that AGP 4x is the best for my system....but my system supports AGP 8X!
I've moved the slider over to 8x (which requires a reboot) at least 5 times with each card but the slider refuses to move past 4xAGP after the reboot.
2: My second problem: I had an old stick of KingMax PC3200 and decided to buy 3 more sticks. Unfortunatly, the 3 I bought did not match the one I had, so I only put 2 of the new sticks I bought into my system. Immediatly, My system would crash, lock up, files were corrupt, and I got PLENTY of blue screens of death with a long message containing: 0x0000007  with all these other numbers and "0"s. I did a search online and found out I had a hardware incompatibility problem. I never got this with my old stick of ram.
I returned the 3 sticks of Ram and replaced them with the Corsair. Put my new Radeon 9700 in, formatted my hard drive....and within 24 hours, my system locked up 3 times, rebooted itself 5 times, and gave me the same BSOD as mentioned above with the same long message.
I didn't change anything except for the memory and the video card. I've been wanting to overclock, (thats why i bought the faster memory   ) but I'm not sure what to do at this point.
I have my FSB at 233 but I'm scared to go any higher because of previous system instability at stock speeds. My RAM was running on 400 and MAT=Turbo with the most relaxed timings at 3,4,4,8.
I've given myself hours of sleepless nights formatting when my system wouldnt boot into windows; overclocking....etc. I NEED HELP. PLEASE. PLEASE. Anything could work at this point.
I'm trying to get more info on how to run my system at a 5:4 ratio, also.
If anyone has problems like me or knows what could be the problem with my system, please reply to this post, it would help me a lot. I've been trying to fix these problems for a few months now so anything is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot to you guys that responded. I brought my computer home this past holiday and I want to let you know where I stand as of now. I guess this thread is like my blog for my computer. I want to clear some things before my first post makes everyone confused.
1- I have only 2 sticks of memory in my system: the Corsair PC3700 TwinX 512x2
I returned the 3 KingMax I bought, and still keep my old stick just in case.
2- I am using the 400 watt power supply that came with the case. I read some reviews of the case and I know the reviewer did not have problems with the power supply. In my BIOS, there are some voltages it is weak on. Lets say: it it should be 5.00+, my power supply will be feeding it 4.96v or something like that, but I dont know, or think, that is a major problem...
3- My computer will refuse to boot if memory speeds are set at anything below 400. SO....if I want to use a 5:4 ratio and have to set my memory speeds to "333" in BIOS, my system refuses to boot.
4- This morning, I did manage to overclock my FSB to 250. Specs are as follow:
Memory Timing @3,4,4,8,4.....speed set at "AUTO".....MAT at "SLOW"
    MY 2.4C's FSB was raised to 250 = 3.0gig
AGP/PCI frequency: 67.xx/3x.xx (cant go any lower)
    CPU voltage: 1.5500
    Memory voltage: 2.75
    Video Card voltage: 1.7
Everything was fine for the whole day until I heard something click in my computer around midnight, and then seconds later, my computer froze and made a continuous beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. (you can imagine)
This "click" and system crash has been plaguing me for months now. I dont know whay it happens. I was just using AIM when I heard the click and my heart stopped.
My memory speeds have been set to "AUTO" even at the FSB of 250. But I don't know if this still means my system is at a 1:1 ratio. I know the BIOS then adjusts the memory to work at 500 if my FSB is 250...so I assume it is?    I love 3gig, but somehow I feel that 2.8 is faster, since the FSB=233 running parallel to my memory, also at 233
A FSB of 250 is good enough for me, that's what I've been waiting 6 months for. If anyone knows how to set other ratios to achieve a FSB of 250+, please let me know, but as I said, my memory won't boot if its set at "333"

  • Problems with applications: GPS Info QT - IM for N...

Problems with GPS Info QT: new update v1.25 (cancelled by Nokia recently) has a gap with the coordinates in longitude because the error is 1 degree 56 minutes more or less (big problem). But it is an excellent applications: when can we obtain it again?
Problems with IM for Nokia: it has been  impossible to install the updade of this application. I have installed it several times and uninstall again, but I always see the word "error".
What happens with the Ovi Maps? before I could see the satellite maps in old version (like a google earth) but when Nokia updated to version 00.02.43.117 I cannot see it. (Maybe it had errors with the Nokia Maps.

    Only for larger conurbations however:

  • Mac Pro (First Generation) problem with 1TB Seagate Barracuda

    Hi Macianer,
I have a first generation Mac Pro which was sold with max. 750GB Hard drives for each bay. At this time I am grabbing for straws and maybe someone has any info on this problem.
I purchased 4 x 1TB Seagate Barracuda hard drives ( Model: ST31000340AS / Firmware: SD15 ), did a regular format after I purchased them ( GUID Partition Table, Journaled HFS+ File System). I am using 2 of them internally (they get quite hot and i didn't want to put all 4 of them in there) and two of them externally (backup purposes). The other two internal bays are covered by 2x 500GB Barracuda drives.
I put all four 1 TB hard drived through a 1 week stress test to make sure I am not dealing with bad apples. So far this practice served me well.
Now 2 weeks later one completely crashed (internal boot drive). It sounded to spin up alright but was not accessible at all. I went to BestBuy and GeekSquad said this drive is crashed and I returned it.
Since I had a backup I didn't worry too much. I put the back up hard drive in as the new boot drive (since it was a SuperDuper duplicat) it worked like a charm. Now the second hard drive starts temporarily freezing the system for 2-4 minutes and seems to get stuck showing the great colored ball of doom. After the freeze it continues to operate normal again and I am able to continue my work.
I ran the Disk Utility and I got the following message:
    INVALID KEY LENGTH
    VOLUME CHECK FAILED.
ERROR: FILESYSTEM VERIFY OR REPAIR FAILED.
It just seems weird, I never had problems with hard drives and now I get these problems with 3-4 week old hard drives.
I was in a chat with seagate support. First question to trouble shoot: Do you have access to a PC. My answer was no since Microsoft Vista I donated all of them to the Salvation Army. He asked if I formatted the hard drives low level and MBR with HFS+. I said since I do not have access to PC nor do I plan on using my hard drives for PC I formatted it regular with GUID and HFS+. I asked if there is any history of these drives that would help explain my experience. I was hoping for a recall or something of that sort or something that a firmware upgrade would remedy.
I guess my question is, is the first generation Mac Pro, even though it seems to format and run them fine, not able to handle 1TB hard drives on a daily basis. Or am I dealing with hard drive problems? The Seagate guy didn't seem to be of any help.
Any help is appreciated or even pointers that would help me in finding the problem.
    Cheers,

Excellent questions, I too am looking at SSD.
Some things I know about SSD:
    1. Intel recently released new firmware for their SSD drives to improve long term performance including Trim/Garbage collection.
    2. SSD drives can be setup as SLC or MLC - SLC is faster read 2X, write 4X over MLC, however SLC is smaller capacity. SLC also has a longer life span.
    3. Intel plans to have an 320GB X25-M (MLC) and a 128GB X25-E (SLC) out soon.
OSX does not fully support Trim and I'm not aware of any 3rd party software for OSX that helps in the garbage collection area. Diskeeper 2010 for Windows 7 provides full support for all variants of SSD, but nothing on the Mac side.
I'm probably going to wait for 2010 to see what comes out, SSD appears to be good news, but it still also seems to have issues. Given the cost of these drivers and the frequent firmware updates, a wait and see is my choice.
I've thought about going with a SAS RAID controller and 15K RAID drivers, but the cost/performance ratio comes out about the same and the 15K drives are noisey and power hungry but they're a "known" entity.
