Problem with Adobe 9.1.3 (AIP) and previous Reader versions?

Hi all,
I'm new to using Administrative Installs when it comes to Adobe Reader, so please bare with me
I've put together an AIP for Adobe Reader 9.1.3. I took the 'base' of 9.1.0, and integrated 9.1.1, 9.1.2, 9.1.3 and also did some final customisation with the Adobe Customisation Wizard.
To help give you some background scenario:
Our initial workstation image originally went out a few years back, so we've got lots of these still around our site (perhaps 1000). These were originally installed with Reader 8.x. In the meantime, a newer image went out with Reader 9.1.0.
As our users are allowed to have full admin rights over their workstations, they are able to update their Acrobat Reader's when the update window pops up, however, in reality, some users are always updating as soon as the update is made available, other's don't seem to update hardly at all (luckily, we push the Windows updates down so they don't get a choice with those!!!).
As we don't automatically re-image all users when a new image is created (it's more based on whenever they get a new PC, or experience big problems), this has led to a situation, where our workstations (approx. 2000), can have any version effectively of Adobe Reader - from 8.x to 9.1.x.
I built the integrated incremental update install in the expectation that this would basically update anything that is currently out there, i.e.
Reader 8.x - update to 9.1.3
Reader 9.1.0 > 9.1.2 - update to 9.1.3
Reader 9.1.3 - no update
Having tested this by distributing with SMS 2003, it appears that our 9.1.3 admin install version will happily update Reader 8.x (tried 8.1.0, 8.1.2, 8.1.6) fine, yet as soon as it encounters any occurences of 9.1.x, it fails with the error "Another version of this product is already installed...."
I would have presumed that a 'slip-streamed' 9.1.3 install would still be able to detect earlier versions of Reader 9 (9.1.0 > 9.1.2) and update them, as surely the Upgrade tables in the MSI's would support this - in fact, I've looked at the Upgrade tables in our 9.1.3 integrated admin install and they do have the ness. upgrade codes for 7/8/9.1.x, so I'm confused as to why this doesn't work.
I'm presuming that if I tinker around with the Upgrade tables, I should in effect be able to force this MSI to always upgrade a 9.1.x, but has anyone else suffered with this previously when using integrated updates in admin installs? Do you have any details on what I could alter in the tables, as I don't understand why this shouldn't work?
Thanks in advance, this is proving to be most frustrating!!!

  • Activation problems with Apple TV 3 rd gen and the latest version of YouTube for Apple TV

Since the latest version of YouTube for Apple TV you need to connect your iPhone Youtube account to your Apple TV for Youtube to use a personal account. It does this through youtube.com/activate. I have two Apple TV and have implemented the process the same on both. After that, everything works fine in about 12 hours, or as long as the Apple TV is "awake". Then, randomly, I have to once again carry out the activation process to use my personal Youtube account on my Apple TV. I consider this to be a big failure and a clear deterioration of YouTube for Apple TV. Does it really have to be this way? Why does my Apple TV forget the "pairing"? All of my devices (iPhone 5, Apple TV gen 3, latest software) are on the same wireless network.

I don't have an answer for this, unfortunately. I've even had my Apple TV replaced (yesterday), and after about an hour of normal operation, it now fails to connect to servers, or connects intermittently and poorly, and it can no longer connect to the iOS Remote app. These are the exact symptoms that prompted the Genius Bar to replace the original unit.
Either there is a basic flaw in Apple TV, or I'm extremely unlucky. All my other Mac and iOS devices have positively no network problems. Very frustrating.

  • Possible Permissions problems with adobe

I have been dealing with a problem with Adobe Creative Suites where Photoshop and Illustrator either crash or simply refuse to open files, "Cannot open filetype" errors.
So I attempted to reinstall the programs from the original discs twice and they still would not work. For some forgotton reason I created a new User Account on the Mac and installed Photoshop in that User and it worked perfectly. I really do not want to have two Admin users on this machine so I would like to get the first user to work properly.
Anyone know what could possibly be wrong with the permissions on the first user?

  • Lion Font Book problem with Adobe FontFolio 11

I have a fresh install of Lion. My problem is with FontFolio 11. It installs well, finds duplicates etc. The problem happens only after i deactivate all of the fontfolio fonts. After they have all be deactivated, if I click on any other font collection, fontd jumps up to 99% CPU usage and Font Book not responding. After 5 minutes of this Font Book's Real Mem usage slowly starts to increase, sometimes up to 3 gigs. Eventually, I am able to click through collection with no delay, however, after a system restart or just a Font Book restart, the process starts over and i have to wait.
    I have tried:
Clearing every font cache file I can think of.
Using Font Finagler to clear font caches.
    Restarting in safe mode.
    Creating a new user.
Nothing has made this problem go away.
So, what exactly is happening? Why is Font Book fast and responsive with my 427 fontfolio fonts active, but when i deactivate them it slows to a crawl and goes through the same CPU/memory cycle every time? I have research and experimented for a solid week. I can't waste any more time on this. I'm this close to giving LION and Font Book the big thumbs down and buying something that actually works.
I never had a problem with snow leopard using Font Book and the same version font folio.

    Same here. My thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15995212#15995212
I've had no replies. Have you looked at Activity Monitor while this is happening? check it out. I think i'm just going to go back to Leopard, don't know what else to do. Do you have an SSD in there?

  • "there is a problem with adobe acrobat/reader. if it is running please exit and try again. (523.523)

We are getting the following error "there is a problem with adobe acrobat/reader. if it is running please exit and try again. (523.523)" and a gray screen appears (Image not viewable) with multiple users. We are using Adobe Reader XI (11.0.05) and (11.0.06). The current workaround is to log off the website and log back in. Once the user logs back in, the pdf will appear. However it occurs anywhere from 2-8 times in a day. Anyone else having this issue or know of another workaround? Any suggestion with how to fix? Please help!!

    Hi Valerie,
Please let me know the version of Adobe Acrobat/Reader & operating system installed on your computer?
    Also, try this:-
    Launch Adobe Reader/Acrobat.
From the menu, choose Edit -> preferences -> General
Uncheck the option for "Enable Protected Mode at startup"
Restart the Adobe Reader and web browser.

  • Hi I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me. The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reade

    Hi
I've a big problem with adobe acrobat reader XI pro and I hope you can help me.
The problem is; when I past copied text from some pdf books (not all of them) it past symbols only! wherever I past it! and even if I coped that text from another pdf reader (adobe pdf reader, internet browsers, ...etc.).
This problem started to happen since yesterday when I installed adobe acrobat reader XI pro to try it before I buy it, and before that when I was using the free adobe pdf reader I was totally able to copy any text from any pdf and past it anywhere with nothing wrong.
    What can I do?
    thank you a lot.

There is no product called Adobe Acrobat Reader Pro. There is
    - Adobe Acrobat Pro ($$)
    - Adobe Reader (free)
Which do you have? And are you a programmer?

May be that the HP software doesn't support Adobe Reader 9.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader Plug-In (7, 8, and 9) on Windows XP

We are experiencing a problem with the Adobe Reader plug-in and viewing documents hosted at our site.  The problem seems to happen with larger (over 5 MB) PDF files enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem never happens when viewing PDF image only files which are not enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem happens inside and outside our firewall, so it is not a firewall problem.  My organization has been hosting PDF files to the web at least all this decade, and this is the first time we have experienced and documented this problem on this scale.  We have ruled out the program creating the PDF file is causing the problem as I have eight sample PDF files created and modified by a variety of programs exhibiting the same issue.

I can reproduce the problem with Internet Explorer 8.0.6 and Firefox 3.5.4 using Adobe Acrobat Plug-In 7.0.9.50 running on Windows XP Professional SP3.  Others have reproduced the problem with 8 and 9 versions of the plug-in on Windows XP Professional and Home.  Oddly, no one has been able to reproduce the problem with Unix/Linux versions of the plug-in or third party plug-ins.  This points to it being something wrong with Adobe Reader.
The problem is when I attempt to view one of the eight PDFs in my browser, I can severely stall or lock it up if I attempt to view more than the first page before the whole document downloads.  Sometimes if you wait it out, the browser will unlock, but not display text on the pages.  Sometimes if you wait for the whole document to load before switching pages, it works.  Sometimes you can start switching pages and the document will not lock up at all.  All eight documents can be viewed without issue if downloaded to the PC's hard drive and then viewed with Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
Can anyone point me to a technical document or reason why we would be experiencing this issue?  Even better, does anyone know the solution to these issues?
Any help will be much appreciated.

I looked at a few documents. They appear to be scans and scans that have been OCRd. It is also likely they have not been optimized for page view. This means that the document has to be fully downloaded before viewed. That means the browser may appear to freeze until the entire document is downloaded. Downloading the entire document appears to be a reasonable way to handle these files.

my operating system is Win 7 and I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0

  • I get this message when I try to open .pdf files in Mozilla: There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (1014:1014)

What can I do to get this to work?

We were getting the same error on a Win 7 machine which had Acrobat 7 (running in compatability mode) and Reader X installed.  When the user was trying to open the link from an email the error 'There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat.....(0:521) would appear and the pdf would not load.
Investigating the problem I can across an article to uncheck the option "Display PDF in browser" (in the application choose Edit -> Preferences -> Internet).  Undertaking this procedure in Acrobat Reader X however, I could not uncheck this and the path the app was showing was for Acrobat 7!?!
Therefore, opened Acrobat 7 and undertook the same procedure.  Unchecked the "Display PDF in browser" (in the application choose Edit -> Preferences -> Internet) which I was able to do, saved and closed the application.
Rechecked Acrobat X and the "Display PDF in browser" could be deselected and the path was now for ..\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
Retried the original email with the link to the pdf and it now opens without error.
Not too sure if this will help but just thought I would share.

  • There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again.

We have Adobe Reader 8.1.3 set to open in the browser.
We are trying to open PDF files within IE Browser. While opening multiple documents in the IE Browser, we get "There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and try again." error, once we click on the "OK" button, PDF file opens in the Adobe reader. This happens randomly while some files open up in IE Browser and some files get the above mentioned error message and open in the Adobe Reader.
We need to open all the PDF files in the IE Browser. Any input is greatly appreciated.

    I may be better off without the tool bar, but I have found anohter solution;
    .  Open Adobe Reader,
                go to edit menu,
                under Preferences
go to Internet, uncheck "Display pdf in browser"
The pdf files then open, but not in the browser
