Problem with After Effects startup: "empty" panels

Hi,
I'm experiencing a wicked problem with AE CS4. First of all, it crashes frequently, most recently every time when trying to RAM preview a composition which used CC Particle World-effect. The main problem occurs when I start AE again after a crash. I get the following startup image:

It seems that AE is actually "working" correctly, it's only that it doesn't show anything on screen. Sometimes it returns to normal if I close Photoshop, Illustrator, Firefox or Spotify. Sometimes I have to close all of them and then restart AE. Right now I tested restarting AE after about 15 minutes after the above images were captured without closing any other programs, and surprisingly it's running fine now. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think that this after-crash-problem has occured before even with compositions which do not have Particle World applied.
I'm not exactly a wizard with computers, but I'm guessing this has got something to do with my graphics card? I'm running Windows XP with Intel Core i7 processor, 3 GB RAM and Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 graphics card. Oh, and I always have OpenGL disabled in After Effects.
Any advice how to get rid of this annoying bug? Also, if anyone has any insight about the Particle World crashing on me, I'd appreciate the help. I read somewhere about a similar problem with Macs, but nothing with Windows PC.

I was so sure it wasn't because the amount of apps running in the background, since crashes and the "after-crash-problems" didn't happen all the time. The computer is my employer's, and I think it was built with 64 bit Windows 7 in mind. For a reason I don't know they decided to go with XP after all, which is kind of weird since there actually is 6 GB RAM inside, but XP can use only half of that amount. Now I guess I just have to start harassing my boss to buy me a 64 bit Win 7.
Todd, I have the latest update installed. Do you think the CC Particle World crash happens also because of low RAM and all this Edsel-thing (had to look that one up!)? I have used the effect many times before with the same computer with no problems at all.

Problem with After Effects CC 12.1

Hello,
I have a problem with After Effects CC ver.12.1. It does not work on my mac (with os x mavericks).
I am a member of Cretive Cloud and I have a latest version of After Effects and it does not work.
Other programs, like: Photoshop, Adobe Premiere or Illustrator works fine.
But when I run the AE I get the message "You can not start After Effects -10810"
Where is the problem?

Same here, I get these messages - I'm confused as to why it says version 12.0 as it should be 12.1!

Problem with After Effects crashing machine when rendering

Ive been having a repeated problem with after effects crashing when I try to render a sequence.
The render halts then first After Effects becomes unresponsive then every other applications follows and I have to hard-restart my machine.
Can anyone help me find out how to stop this happening?

What exact version of After Effects? Include the minor version number---e.g., After Effects CC (12.2.1) or After Effects CS6 (11.0.4). Do not just say "After Effects with the latest updates" or "After Effects CC"; give the specific version number.

Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)

What were you doing when the problem occurred? What is the exact sequence of steps that you are taking?
Performing a render, the render gets partially through but stops at different parts and hangs, then the computer hangs and I have to hard reset.
Has this ever worked before? If this worked before by doesn't work now, what has changed on your computer in the intervening time?
I had a similar problem two days ago, i thought it could be a problem with some animated png sequences and a "matte feather" effect so i replaced the sequences with non animated versions and it seemed to fix the problem.

QUADRO CX & Open-GL problem with After Effects

Hi,
Im using Adobe After Effects CS4 on my 8-core intel machine with a brand new QUADRO CX graphic card i just bought.
With After Effects I noticed that when I apply the Turbulent Noise OR Fractil Noise and turn on OPEN-GL it shows a different pattern than when I turn off OPEN-GL in AE.
I think this is a problem with OPEN-GL. Does someone have the same problem? What do I need to do? I mean I bought this card for a high price and it shows me this strange problem..

Most likely it's a bug that somehow skews the random seed. Beyond that - no idea. I'm still saving money for a new computer and a CX simply isn't in the budget, so chances are slim that I will ever be useful in these matters. ;-) Just make sure to file it on the official bug report form: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish. Otherwise, as a joint venture product, the CX certainly comes with some kind of extended support on Adobe's end, so a call to support might provide some help (after the 5th of January).

Problem with After Effects Compositions

In my Premiere project, all of my videos are replaced with After Effects compositions. Everything was fine and then one morning half of my compositions were empty. All of my compositions are still there, they are empty.There is simply no videos anymore. Like if someone deleted everything I had in my composition. What should I do ?

Have you opened the comps in After Effects to see if they're empty there? Chances are they came unlinked somehow in AE and you simply need to relink them there. Try that, and then post back and let us know what happened...

Problem with After effects present text animations

When I want to use the text animation presets I get an error message, an example is when I want to use a text "animate in" preset and got the following error message: After Effects error: Can't import file "Fly In From Bottom.ffx": unsupported filetype or extension. ( 0 :: 1 ). I have check my bridge script settings and they are activated for After effects.

Sounds like you are trying to import a FFX file instead of applying an animation preset. Some users are reporting problems with Bridge. Just type the name of the animation preset into the Effects and Presets panel and apply it from inside AE.

Problem with After Effects and Yosemite

I have CS5 and I have installed OS X Yosemite and now using the eyedropper in Keylight (1.2) makes After Effects crash and with Ultra Key in Premiere Pro, the eyedropper just don’t work. I have removed and reinstalled both programmes and it didn’t help. I also failed to update the programs after installation. Anyone who knows something about this?

My graphics card has 512 MB of vram. with 200 mb allocated to After Effects (it was the default, can it be safely increased?)
I'm running 2560 x 1024 (two 19 inch monitors in horizontal span mode). but deactivating a screen and restarting doesn't make a difference (1280x1024).
as for visual styles, I only had the default windows xp theme, but switching the the classic windows 2000/98 look didn't make a difference, even after rebooting.
I'll contact technical support right away! But any suggestions anyone might have are still much appreciated!

EDIT: forgot to add, about video drivers, I'm using the latest yes. I've also tried the one just before the latest. And I'll have till tommorow with technical support since they're closed now, bummer ):
Another edit: heres something interesting, I turned hardware acceleration in display settings off completely. This fixed the problem.
The only problem is, now I have no hardware acceleration at all, giving me close to no performance at all in pretty much anything. Obviously After Effects doesn't run well like this.
But at least this makes it almost certain that the problem is related to the graphics card.

Starting Problems with After Effects

Today I bought my 1 year membership for the creative cloud. Now I have some problems with starting After effects. First of all, after downloading the program reported Error U44M1P7. I ignored it and opened the program. After 5 minutes, it showed me the next problem: A plug in could not be opend After Effects CC\Support files\(Media Core plug ins)\Common\ImporterJEPG.prm. I klicked OK an saw the next error "The plug in Anywhere2.aex , MediaBrowse.aex , RQ Monitor.aex coulnd't be loaded, (39§ 23) is not supporting and finaly "After effects can't work" - end of my story.
I hope you can help me as soon as possible!

Ohne vernünftige Systeminformationen wird das nix. Entweder werden die Plugins blockiert oder die Hardware ist nicht kompatibel mit den entsprechenden hardwarebeschleunigten Funktionen für Videodekodierung und Anzeige. Ansonsten:

Auch gut möglich, dass das Ujpdate einfach in die hose gegangen ist und dadurch inkompatible Komponenten entstanden sind. einfach das Cleaner Tool drüber und neu installieren.

Memory problem with after effects... help!

hello,
i am having a strange issue where my pc will lock up after i minimize After Effects and try to access the file (quicktime, wmv, etc...) i just created. i am new to AE but i'm sure this isn't normal.
any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Mmh, if it gives you virtual memory errors, you have too many system processes running and your RAM is full. Not directly related to AE, but it explains the delays. What happens is, that any additional program you launch on such a crammed system forces other memory pages to be moved into the swap file so that RAM becomes available, making things slow in terms of user feedback. it also sometimes effectively disables file associations (it's a timeout in Windows' internal messaging system). Do you by any chance use Render Multiple Frames Simultanously? If so, try to render without it. Other than that there is not much you can do but sift through task manager and your Services control panel and see, which applications and tools consume al lthe resources, then try to disable unnecessary stuff. This would in particular apply to the millions of tools that place themselves in the system tray like virus scanners, update checkers, messengers, other widgets. Also close down other programs during rendering. Even a simple thing like a web browser can consume more than 120 MB of RAM (Firefox with a few extensions).

Problems with After Effects/Premiere CS3 in Vista

I have read through a bundle of solutions to this problem and haven't found anything that has worked yet. I ran After Effects and Premiere Pro on Vista up until two days ago when it refused to open. When I try to open Premiere, it gives the message "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attemp to save your current project." When I tryo to open After Effects, the firts try does nothing. The second attempt will open After Effects, but all interfaces are missing and all the dropdown menus are grayed out. When I close it, it says After Effects has crashed, contact support, error 0:42. I have uninstalled/deactivated and reinstalled, run codec sniper, removed xmi preference settings and nothing works. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you run the CS3 Clean Script? If not, please do so before attempting any reinstalls. More info on such stuff here and here.

Problems with After Effects CC & OSX Mavericks AFTER installing 12.01 Patch

Ok, let me give the details. Everything working perfectly previously. Update to OSX Mavericks this morning, (had read about the issues), predictably After Effects wouldn't open. I then applied the 12.01 patch as directed by Adobe. I now get this error message, and After Effects won't open. It attempts to, gets to this same spot, then crashes.
I want to re-iterate that my whole rig was working fine until this so it is definitely related to this update. I have already tried reinstalling patch, resttarting computer, and updating Cuda driver. I have too many plugins, pressets, and scripts to just willy nilly reinstall After Effects as a "let's see if that works". I am on my work computer and need After Effects to work.

I disabled my firewall, but still got this error Not sure what it means at all, also not sure how to configure the firewall to not block dynamiclink. I am using Handsoff on Mac and All adobe connection requests and all dynamiclink requests are allowed so I don't know what else to know, although it seems to not be the whole problem. Problems with After Effects video in Premiere CS5

I've run into an interesting problem using sequences in Premiere Pro CS5 that I create in After Effects CS5. Here's the skinny: I created a sequence in AE, 1440x1080. I exported the composition as a movie (avi). I then imported it into my 1440x1080 Premiere project. It looked great when playing it in the preview monitor. But - when I place the video clip on the timeline, I first get a green bar and then a red bar - even when the clip is the only video on the timeline. And sometimes the red bar even extends to a clip that's adjacent to the AE clip. When I render the effects in the sequence, the red bar problem goes away - BUT the quality of the AE clip is compromised. The image gets noticeably noisy and degraded. Does anyone have insights as to why this is happening? Am I exporting the AE sequence incorrectly? Many thanks.

Having problems with After Effects preset

When I want to use the presets I always get an error message, an example is when I wanted to use a text "animate in" preset and got the following error message:

It use to work in the past, I use the text tool type and then go to Animation - Browse Presets, Opens up in Bridge and I select the Animation In or Out and double click on the preset I want and then I get an error message similar to my original posting. Its all of the presets, I played around with 60% of them including the background and so forth and keep on getting error message

Im having a problem with after effects identifying a files location(desc)

I recently added music to a after effects project from my desktop and it worked fine, then I moved the music file from my desktop to my music folder and now AE is saying the file is missing or cant be indetified. Is there a way to let AE identifying it without moving it to my desktop or re-importing my clip to my project.(mac)

in your project panel right click (ctrl click) on the missing music file. Select replace file and then navigate to where you moved it to.
