Problem with airport after snow leopard upgrade.

I know there are several threads about this already but none of the "answers" to those threads fix my problem. I just upgraded snow leopard and installed the new update. Since then I can connect to my wifi, but nothing will load. My airport says that I am connected and that I have a full signal, but whenever I open my internet browser (firefox, safari), nothing will load, it just stays on the screen that says "loading" at the top. I've tried deleting the "Automatic" airport option and creating my own but that has not worked. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?? Right now the only way i can access the internet is be plugging directly into the router.

Hi swftrules,
It's probably worth trying just to ensure that the issue is (or isn't) location specific. Preferably to go somewhere that you've never connected before and has free WiFi without crazy encryption. An Apple Store is a great location to try.
If it does work at the new location, I'd be inclined to reset the router and set it back up (open network) and see if that works and then add encryption from there.
If it doesn't work at the new location, then I'd consider reloading the OS if you've already tried the new network location.

  • Cannot turn on AirPort after Snow Leopard upgrade with Parallels 3

Since I have upgraded to Snow leopard, my wifi does not turn on, I have seen some comments about parallels causing the problem, does anyone know if this is true and if so how to turn of the ports they are using.
I cannot open the parallels environments as I need to upgrade to get them open.
I now have lots of applications which have stopped working since the upgrade, this is the one thing Microsoft does well making sure the backward compatibility, used to be a advocate of Apple OS's but this one has tarnished my view on them.
    Any help very much appreciated.
    Rgds, Tony

I find the idea of perpetual compatibility of programs with new operating systems to be unrealistic. The programs that you bought still work with the OS that they were designed for (Tiger and Leopard). In the case of parallels, version 4 has been available for Mac since November of 2008. Version 3 came out in June of 2007. So it looks like they are trying very hard to keep up with the changes that the new Apple cats bring every couple of years.
Since you don't wish to purchase programs that are certified for the operating system you have upgraded to, then you will either need to find freeware replacements or install an operating system that is compatible with the versions of programs that you currently do own. A lot of third party developers are going to insist on getting paid for their continuing efforts. You can also use Apple's BootCamp to run Windows on your Mac. It's free with the OS, but I don't care for it and I'm willing to pay for a program that provides services that are not available in the OS.
Parallels upgraded their software to version 4 for a reason, probably many reasons actually. I expect that part of the reason they decided to rewrite their code was to enhance compatibility with the virtual machine and Leopard.
I was having some issues using version 3 that I bought during the Tiger era (I think - actually started with v2) and they went away with version 4. Version 4 does work with Snow Leopard, and Parallels did come out with a free incremental update for v4 - 2 days before the Snow Leopard release. I suppose that this latest update was also supposed to provide better compatibility with Snow Leopard. Parallels was probably one of the vendors that took advantage of developer's access to the Snow Leopard beta's and they seem to be trying to keep up with the new OS's changes in design.
Now I'm waiting for Parallels to build a 64bit version of their program (which I expect to pay an upgrade fee for). I'm guessing we'll see some pretty good speed improvements if the code is re-written again (probably v5) to take advantage of the new architecture.
If you don't wish to upgrade to programs that can take advantage of what Snow Leopard was designed to do, then Leopard or even Tiger will probably work fine for you. Apple is still going to maintain security updates and bug fixes for them for the foreseeable future.
in what is billed as a simple no impact upgrade
What Apple actually said is that there would be very few changes to the GUI. They stressed that this update is mainly to enable a better 64 bit platform for future programs, the ability to use an absurd amount of ram, and compatibility with other systems like MS Exchange.
I have now eight different applications which are developed for the Mac OS
I guess you mean a Mac OS. This is far from the hundreds of applications that were rendered useless by the Leopard upgrade which dropped support for all OS9 programs. Many people had to find new games that were developed in this century or new word processing programs, or even convert their old graphics files to gifs and jpgs.
That was really painful for some as there are no replacements for some of those programs at all.
    no WiFi
Certainly some sort of corruption, or even an actual bug. That's the nature of a bug. It might have just gotten fixed with the 10.6.1 update, or it will be with one of the next updates to come out, or you have a problem in your user account preferences, or some other issue. Anybody who works for a living in the IT industry knows better than to upgrade a computer to a .0 version of any program or OS, and they have backups in case there are serious problems. Let others break in a new OS before you break down. Hopefully, the machine you upgraded wasn't used for income, without having a bootable backup?
My first computer training was on a Burroughs 3500 Mainframe in the early '70s - Many computer hardware's have come my way away since then. They all cost a bundle at the time, and I used each for the best performance I could afford. You'll have to decide the value of any upgrades or updates and that does require research.

  • Problems with FCP after Snow Leopard Installation

I'm editing canon 5d footage in FCP. I use MPEG Streamclip to properly convert the footage before importing to fcp. Everything was working absolutely fine until I installed snow leopard.  Now, all of the clips in the timeline have those weird lines as if I imported the footage without converting it.  I have a deadline and if I have to re-edit this entire project it's not going to be pretty.  I have installed all of the updates for FCP and Snow Leopard.  I tried a test by creating a new batch in MPEG streamclip and the footage is fine. It appears that I might have to re-edit everything.   Can someone PLEASE offer some assistance?  I can't afford to re-edit this project.
    Thank you

Yes... I am aware of the canon plug in for converting 5d/7d footage.  I either use that plug in or MPEG stream clip and they both have been working fine.   "Properly" meaning... FCP does not recognize H.264 (5d and 7d) therefor we need to convert the video using either MPEG stream clip or the free canon plug in.  The best codec to edit this footage is ProRes 422LT  ProRes422 - I only use the 5d and or 7d cameras for my projects and have been editing this way for some time without any problems what so ever.  The problems immediately arose after upgrading to Snow Leopard. The problem lies in my EXISTING FCP projects that are already in the works.  I am still able to convert footage for new projects without a problem.  I am using the latest updated versions of SL and FCP. I did the following to trouble shoot:
    1. Did a clean reinstall of FCP - STILL HAPPENING
    2. On an existing project I deleted a few of the problem clips.  Took the original and converted it again using MPEG Stream clip.  Renamed it and from the FCP project, I located the new clip.  SAME PROBLEM
    3. On an existing project, I deleted a few of the clips completely. Converted the original again using MPEG SC.  Imported the entire new clip in FCP, re-edited it and dragged it into the time line.  NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    4. Opened a new project in FCP.   Took some of the original problematic clips.  Converted them using MPEG SC. Dragged into the timeline.  NO PROBLEM, WORKS FINE
    5. Played both the original clips (before conversion) and the converted clips in Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    6.  Exported part of a problematic project to Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    7. Opened up one of the same projects from the same hard drive on my other mac (Mac Book Pro) and there are NO PROBLEMS.  THEY WORK FINE
Based on everything I've listed above, the problem seems to be happening in the Viewer  and Canvas on my I-Mac which I just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The exported projects are fine.  Am I to assume that I should continue working with these existing projects and everything will be fine?  I've spoke to 5 or 6 friends that are experienced and no one can come up with an answer.

  • Problem with tiger to snow leopard upgrade

    Hi,
I wanted to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard and bought a retail 10.6 Snow Leopard install disc MC223Z/A. on the box. 2Z691-6428-A on the disc.
It would not let me install it unless I erased and partitioned the destination disc thus losing my settings and preferences like the old Archive and Install as it suggested in the article mentioned below..
I tried this after reading this article
    http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9137147/Upgrading_to_Apple_s_Snow_Leopard _OS_What_you_need_to_know.
I presume now that the article was written for upgrading from Leopard and not Tiger.
Perhaps I missed something when I tried.
    Any ideas from the experts.

  • Problems with macbook after snow leopard install

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my macbook. Saved and backed up everything from my old one and then loaded snow leopard onto the new one. Since loading snow leopard my optus wireless internet is refusing to work (Saying it has quit and wont reload), my photos in iphoto are showing up as thumbnails but not letting me see them or save them as jpegs and a lot of programs are quitting unexpectedly as i am working on them.
My biggest concerns are with my photos and internet.
Anyone know some solutions? I am a bit of an amateur with all this and don't know a lot of jargon. THanks

no, i think donv means what kind of machines new and old you have. look at the profiles of most users here - they describe in more or less detail what Macs they have and what CPUs etc. All this would be helpful for donv to advise you according to your need.
As for moving your data to the new machine, check this link http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2169737

  • Problems with MacBook after Snow Leopard Update

I have an older macbook that I recently updated to snow leopard and since the update my fan is always running and my computer is slower in general. At times my computer starts having huge lag and all apps quit responding. This is incredibly frustrating and if anyone could help me fix this I would greatly appreciate it.
P.S. Since updating videos on youtube.com also will not play without lagging but movies on any other site are okay, even youtube videos embedded on other sites.

You might also try deleting the dynamic loader shared cache. This sometimes can lead to apps bogging down and delays all around.
The easiest way to do this is a Safe Boot this will delete dyld cache among other things.
Follow the link for more info or hold down the Shift key at restart, keep it down and power back on. Keep Shift down all the way to the desktop. This starts your Mac, more slowly, and ask for log-in.
Then restart as normal, which will take noticeably longer as cache files get rebuilt. See if this helps.

  • Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.

Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.
Is there any way to use a 10.5.7 wireless .kext files on Snow Leopard? And where can I find the files?

Ok, I have the fix!! After several frustrating days it finally just works.
    The process:
Upgrade your Macs to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Powercycle your modem AND time capsule / airport TWICE
Reset your time capsule with a pin or paperclip on the back
Follow the prompts to setup your time capsule / airport access
    -- On your Macs
    Go to System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced > TCP/IP
Click "Renew DHCP Lease" then click "Ok"
    Click Apply
    Turn off Airport
    Turn Airport on
    IT WORKS!!!
One of the magical people at tech support walked me through it earlier today. The whole process took about 1.5 hrs because Show Leopard takes about an hour to install on one machine.
    Hope this helps-

  • Isight no longer works after snow leopard upgrade

my isight no longer is available directly after snow leopard upgrade on my macbook black. Anyone else with the same problem? The isight does not show up in 'about this mac' under USB and I tried resetting SMC and PRAM.

    Hi,
In Leopard there was an App called iSight Update app that was in Hard Drive/System/Library/Core Services
This does not seem to be there in Snow Leopard.
An issue with some computers with the camera was that in System Preferences > Displays the Colours needed to be set to Millions.
Also check the Hard Drive/System/Library/Extensions folder and see that you have the Apple_iSight.kext (this is likely to handle the Internal iSights as well).
    One last thing.
Some Web sites can make use of the camera using Flash.
If that tab is still open the Browser may have use of the camera.
It sounds like you have done computer restarts and this will not be the case unless the browser is set to go back to that page.

  • Receiving email after Snow Leopard upgrade

Everything works fine after Snow Leopard upgrade 10.6.2 except I cannot RECEIVE email. I have checked with Comcast and verified my settings for both incoming and outgoing POP mail.

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
I had no problems of this sort when upgrading to Snow Leopard or 10.6.2. Were you already running Snow Leopard in an earlier version, or did you upgrade from Tiger (10.4.11) directly to SL 10.6.2?
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail. Locate any files named to include MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded. At the root level of the Mail folder you should find one named MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3, but look in each POP account folder also. There if you find any other, including MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded2 delete them from each POP account folder -- they are not used in versions of Mail later than 2.1.3.
    Relaunch Mail and test.

  • Can't Print After Snow Leopard Upgrade

I have a home network centered around an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. The base station is wired to a Linksys network switch which, in turn, is wired to two computers - an Apple Dual G5 running OS X 10.4.11 and a and Mac MIni which, until yesterday was running Leopard. I have an HP Laserjet P1006 connected to the USB port of the AEBS and, until yesterday, everything worked fine. Yesterday, I ran the Snow Leopard Upgrade on my Mini and now the Mini won't print to the HP over the network. If I connect the printer directly to the MIni, it works fine; as soon as I reconnect the printer to the AEBS, the Mini will no longer print. The lights on the printer will flash but nothing comes out. I have downloaded the HP Printer driver update from Apple but this didn't help. I have reset the AEBS, to no avail. The G5 running Tiger has no problems with printing. And, my daughter just got a brand-new MacBook Pro loaded with Snow Leopard from the factory and she can print to the HP over the network without any problems.
    Any ideas?

When I upgraded iMac from Leopard to Snow Leopard 10.6 it also stopped printing wirelessly to Brother MFC6490CW.
I thought I had this same issue with my Epson printer when wireless printing. Actually, in SL, wireless printing is very slow at least with an Epson. Takes about 5 minutes or so for wireless print to even start. When checking the printing status app, it will start out saying "printer ready." Then after a few minutes it will say "looking for printer." A few minutes later it will say "printing."
When I go into the next room where the printer is, the green light is "flashing" letting me know that "printing" has started.
So I guess what I am trying to say is to check the printing status app after you click "print." It's possible "Brother" is just as slow as "Epson."

  • PS3 and Safari crashes after Snow Leopard upgrade

How is everyone enjoying the crashes after their Snow Leopard upgrade? I can't save a photo using PS3, or download a photo to flickr or facebook without a crash. PS3 crashes, Safari crashes and work flow is at a crawl? Spoke with tech yesterday and they told me that this would stop if I downloaded Snow Leopard again, which I did, but the problem wasn't resolved. To top it off, I lost permissions on the iMac and can't use the computer. Please tell me where all of the accolades came from? Were the reviews done by people who actually work on their computers or by people who play on them? Oh, and another thing, lost my wireless access to the router and had to start all over. Be careful here, this has not been fun!

Excuse me, I meant to write CS3 instead of PS3.

  • Finder search "aliases" missing after Snow Leopard upgrade

I'm dealing with a crazy annoyance after upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard - currently running 10.6.2
I have 2 duplicate, external, 1TB WestDig Drives. I have no problems accessing these drives from the Finder, but if I use Finder search or Smart Folders, the corresponding folders on the external drives never open on the first try. I always receive the message:
+The alias “…” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.+
On the second try, search result folders open fine and I don't seem to have any further problems with a folder once it has been opened successfully from within search.
It seems that after my Snow Leopard upgrade every search on the external drive reveals "missing" folder aliases although the "aliases" appear as regular folder icons.
I tried re-indexing Spotlight but this did not solve the problem. I also trashed my plist files for Finder and Spotlight which didn't help either.
External Drive volume info from Terminal:
    +drwxrwxr-x 21 782 Mar 14 17:18 PHOTOGRAPHY ARCHIVE+
FWIW I've found others having similar problems on the Apple forums HERE and HERE. I've tried their suggested PathFinder workaround without success.
This is driving me bonkers because it renders Smart Folders somewhat useless. Additionally, these external drives work fine on my old installation of 10.5 Leopard
    Thanks for any help!

    HI,
    Try repairing disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Black screen in Iphoto after Snow Leopard upgrade

Hi, I've just upgraded the OS to Snow Leopard and now when I try to view or edit in iphoto the photo appears and then the window goes black - has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions how to fix, I've rebuilt the photo library but this hasnt helped.

Sometimes it helps to know you're not alone. I'm facing the same thing. Called Apple Support. They told me to reinstall iPhoto '09 (which I did), rebuild the libraries (which I did). Still getting the same problem.
I also find often that when I attempt to crop a photo, the screen image distorts and stretches to the desired size, instead of crops.
Something to do with the way Snow Leopard uses Open GL?
