Problem with ALT codes on Apple Wired Keyboard

May I just note, I have posted this in the "Boot Camp" forum, but run the normal Windows 7 on my computer. I was unable to find a forum purely for Apple hardware.
I am using a Apple Wired Keyboard (MB110B/B) -- British-bought -- on a Windows 7 PC, and I are having some issues with ALT codes. The array of symbols I have to type (pi, sigma, etc) becomes tiresome to insert via the Character Map (on Win7). Basically, entering "alt" (left handside) then 227 does not insert "π" but rather "Ò". alt + 228 (Σ) inserts õ
I don't know if this problem is common for Apple keyboard users on Windows, but is there a way to alter this.
Thanks, Jordan.

For a third opinion, be cautious of using a dishwasher as the temperature can get pretty high. If the spill is on the 456 on the number pad, you can try holding the keyboard vertically, soak just that part in distilled water for several minutes to disolve the spill material. Run some denatured (rubbing) alcohol over the numpad, then dry with a hair dryer.
You could also try to remove the key caps...slip dental floss under the key caps in two loops, one from the top one from the bottom. Pull the key caps off one at a time, the wipe the area clean...see if there is any material sticking that needs to be cleaned off.
I do not know what keyboard you have or how it does the switching, but most keyboards today do not use mechanical switches. The switches are sealed capacitance switches so if you clean all the material from the keyboard it may work again.
Or, if you don't feel like going to this much trouble, a visit to your friendly Apple Retailer to purchase a new one may be a good idea.

  • Problems under Windows USB Drivers (Apple Wired Keyboard)

    Hello guys,
somehow I have some issues after installing Windows 7 regarding the USB Drivers: if I install the "Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Installation Disk - 1E31"-drivers, doesn't matter if I do it from Intel's or Apple's webpage, the USB Ports of my Apple Wired Keyboard (A1243) don't work anymore; it says "Not enough power". I have already tried that workaround found on the web, by increasing the output mAh through regedit, but the point is that after installing these drivers, the section "Power Management" isn't shown anymore in the device manager.

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
    The Forums are at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology. Here is a link;

  • PROBLEM WITH ALT-V WHEN USING CROATIAN KEYBOARD

    Hi,
When Typing ALT GR+V (@ sign) in Croatian Keyboard, all the text from clipboard is copied into the text box (as it is pressed CTRL+V) plus the @sign.
There were some bugs filed long back regarding a similar issue for the German keyboard where the customer was using the AltGr key for special characters, same as in our case.
Below is the list of those bugs:
    (1)     Bug 757614: GERMAN USERS CANNOT USE ALT-GR KEY TO GET SPECIAL CHARACTERS
    (2)     666925
    (3)     767865
    (4)     768658
I have gone through the descriptions and mail chains mentioned in these bugs, and it seems that the issue was fixed in OJDK.
Please go through the above mentioned bugs once to get more details.
It seems that this is not ORMS issue. It seems to be an Oracle Forms or OJDK issue.
Can someone please advise on this as why is this happening. We are using Oracle Forms 10g.

What do you mean by that? The problem being talked about here is an inability to make French accented characters on a German keyboard. What is your problem exactly?
I've posted here because I guess it may be the same bug.
After upgrading I wasn't able to do special characters, including some accented vocals, like "ì", very common in italian language.
Then I've added an english keyboard, removed the italian one and added it again, so the problem with missing accented vocals was solved.
I still have the same problem with special consonants, like "z" and "c": if I hold my thumb on such letters, I have no options like, say, "ż" (such characters are very important for my field (linguistics) and if Apple won't solve this problem I'll be forced to look elsewhere).

Getting Bluetooth set up initially in Bootcamp is a bit of a hit and miss affair in my experience, but persistence pays off, and connection is reliable. I gave up with the keyboard on my Mac Pro at one stage, tried again a few days later and it worked.
    How did you do it?
Persistence and repetition, reading lots of threads and getting snippets from various sources, can't recall any silver bullets.
Have you searched this forum, there are a LOT of posts on the subject.
Links please? I can't find any.
If you type "bluetooth" in the search box while at the top level of the Bootcamp section you will get six pages of hits. Here are just a few, not necessarily the best or a complete list or in any particular order, but they contain relevant info.
I can't remember the detail now but one of the key steps for me was launching the bluetooth "service" mentioned in some of these links. Initially option wasn't appearing at all. Also mine (and others) seems to need a single click after boot to be activated. If you try and move it before a click it won't respond so you might think it wasn't working.
BTW I am assuming you have successfully installed the Boot Camp 3.1 drivers?

I am unable to download updates to my I-Phone.  It is version 5.1 and I am using a PC and version ITunes 6.0 and have made sure that funds are available in my account to download apps as well as verifying my billing information several times.  However, it is still indicating an error message of:  Security Code is invalid
Any thoughts on how to resolve this problem?

Your payment method is being rejected. If you're sure the information is correct, contact the issuing bank to find out what the problem is. If they show no problems, contact iTunes support.

  • IPod,  iTunes Syncing on Leopard + Apple Wired Keyboard = Hang and problems

Sorry for the cryptic topic title but I search liked crazy and through several different sites I managed to hobble together a configuration that reproduces my problem. Maybe those terms will helps others...
Anyway, I have Mac Pro with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and a 5G video iPod. Just recently during iTunes syncing it began to randomly hang quite early on in the process. No itunes is still responsive but it just stays on the same song forever, never making any progress. I did restore, auto vs. manual, disk space enable/disable every combination of iTunes and iPod settings I could try.
The crazy part is that I HAVE fixed the problem but I wanted Apple and others to know what to do and that is needs to be fixed correctly
Recently (same time iTunes started failing) I got the new Apple wired keyboard (love it!) but it IS the problem (or rather the combination of stuff). If I just unplug that keyboard during the iTunes sync it works every time, plug it back in and it hangs again next time iTunes syncs.
So maybe someone else is having this problem, I hope you find this forum and I hope Apple already knows about this glitch.
    Thanks!

I'm only going to tackle one of your issues; that of "recently added" playlists being whacked out when added to iPhones/iPods.
Here's the issue: You set up a smart playlist with a "recently added" criterion. The playlist looks fine in iTunes, and it displays all the recent music you've added to your library properly.
You then sync to your iPhone, and low and behold, all the tracks in that playlist do not match anything that had shown in iTunes. Believe it or not, this is a really old iTune bug. If memory serves me, it goes back to iTunes 6 or maybe earlier.
There are two known work arounds:
    1) you turn off "live updating." This is very poor work around, because most people use a recently added playlist to automagically add their newest music to their device. Turning live updating off defeats the point.
2)create a second smart playlist that points to the first one. What I mean is, if you have a playlist called "Newest 250 tracks" and that is the smart playlist that shows up incorrectly on your iphone, then set up a second smart playlist called "Newest 250 tracks iPhone" and the only criterion in it, is that is populates from playlist "Newest 250 tracks." It will then look identical to your first playlist, but because it doesn't contain a "recently added" criterion in itself, it will avoid the bug. So sync to that second tiered playlist, and all is well.
Yes it's stupid to have to make a second "meta" playlist for every recently added playlist, but c'est la vie.

  • Apple Wired keyboard with numeric keypad works for 10.5.6??

    Hello!
I have a iBook G4 1 Ghz 256 mb of ram. I want the apple wired keyboard
With numeric keypad. My iBook is running 10.5.6. Would this work on leopard?
I don't care if the launch pad and mission control keys don't work since I have leopard.
However, on the box it says that the minimum requirements
Is 10.6.8 but some people say it'll work.
    Please Help!!!
    Thank You So Much

ok thanks for the tip and yes i admit i didn't see that...
but it seems a little weird to have to upgrade all the OS to Snow Leopard just to use a keyboard.
That kind of new device should be configured through a driver to download...shouldn't it ?
I presume there's no keyboard driver that can solve my problem.. ?
so you confirm that if i pay for Snow Leopard and upgrade my OS, my keyword will definitely work correctly with my Mac Mini ?
    Thanks

  • Apple wired keyboard - certain keys not working with shift

I treated myself to a new Apple wired keyboard MB110B/A for my mac mini.
My previous keyboard worked fine, however the new keyboard causes the computer to enter the Hardware Test mode every time the computer is restarted. The computer only starts normally without the keyboard connected (or with my old keyboard connected).
Once the computer has started, if I plug the new keyboard in, it appears to work normally with the following exceptions. The following keys do not register when the "shift" key is pressed: 2, w, s, x. This fault does not occur with my old keyboard.
As these keys are in a line, I think there may be a wiring fault inside the keyboard. If so, would this explain the computer entering Hardware Test mode every time it is started with the keyboard connected?
    Thanks in advance.

Definitely sounds like a hardware fault in the keyboard to me. I assume it's the same whichever USB port it's connected to? (and if you plug it into another Mac, too)?
Of course, as that keyboard is glued together in final assembly, it's completely unrepairable.
If it's a reproducible fault (and new anyway): take/send it back for replacement. You shouldn't have any trouble with Apple arguing.

  • I got a external Apple Wired Keyboard (w/ NumPad), caps lock mapped to control doesn't work with tab + caps lock + shift

I got a external Apple Wired Keyboard (w/ NumPad) since I'm a developer. I have used control panel > keyboard > modifier keys to make the caps lock key the control key. I can't get it to work when I press caps lock (which maps to control) +shift + tab (which I use to change tabs backwards).
Any ideas? It works when I use the regular control key, and it works on my built-in MBPro keyboard. Thx!

Hi Steve, Welcome to apple discussions.
Hmm, that is a strange problem. Well, you've already done what I would suggest which is to go to the keyboard settings and click the "Restore defaults" button in the modifier keys window and try again. If that doesn't work then you can restart the computer and check. If that doesn't work you can try to reset the pram. Hold the optioncommand+PR buttons after you hear the startup chime, it should chime again, I let it chime a third time just for good measure and see if things look better.
If that fails then you can try making another account and seeing if the caps lock works in the new account. There might be some strange error on your account that would be corrected for in a new account. After that it gets more labor intensive. Do a system re-install, do an erase and install.
You might consider a trip to the apple genius bar there in Honolulu if can. The should be able to run through all that for you. You're still under warrantee so take advantage and get some help.
Oh, and just a disclaimer that I learned from Adam on the maccast podcast. Make a full, complete backup including a time machine and bootable (like superduper or carbon copy cloner) disk before you do any of the above or take the unit it for service.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can i Use The Apple Wired Keyboard With Camera Connector Kit

Can i Use The Apple Wired Keyboard With Camera Connector Kit
    3g 64gb verizon

People report it is still possible to use a wired USB keyboard with the CCK, if you use a powered USB hub to get around the "not enough power" error message.  (I have done this with an older Apple USB keyboard my non-jailbroken iPad1 on iOS 4.3.3.)  Normally, powered USB hubs have a AC power adapter so you lose portability unless you can find a battery powered USB hub.  At this point, the (in)convinience of the USB hub becomes an issue, depending on what you get.
And wired USB keyboard were never supported for the iPad.  So there's no guarantee that it will continue to work with future iPad updates from Apple.  So best to go with a Bluetooth keyboard unless you have a specific USB keyboard that you "must" use.  If you have all the equipment already, I say give it a try.  But I would not recommend trying a USB keyboard if you have to purchase anything.

  • Will any usb extender work with my apple wired keyboard?

I'm about to buy a apple wired keyboard with the numeric keypad on ebay. I don't have an apple USB extender but I do have a normal usb extender that came with my old pc wifi dongle. Will this work with the apple keyboard? I've tried googleing but I've gotten many mixed answers, some saying yes some saying no.

Yes, a USB extension cable with a male and female end will work.

  • Apple Wired Keyboard Gibberish

I guess this problem has never been solved but i thought i would let people know I'm having this problem to see if anybody has found a fix for it. I am using a MacBook Pro Retina (mid 2012) running Yosemite 10.10. When i use the wired keyboard a s d f g h j k l looks like å ß ∂ ƒ  ˙ ∆ ˚ ¬ . I have tried just about everything i can think of besides buying a new keyboard and seeing if it is the keyboard itself. Anybody else have a similar problem or possibly a fix. DO NOT tell me to try another computer, make sure the USB ports are working, try a windows PC, try a different Mac, reset the SMC or PRAM, check fonts for duplicates. It does the same thing on a mac mini, and in windows it acts like control or alt is being held down. One would think that would make it like the keyboard is at fault, but at one point in time tonight during my adventures on learning how to troubleshoot a APPLE keyboard on an APPLE computer it worked about 80% except for several keys would type two letters when one was pressed. b = bn . Im out of ideas besides buying a new keyboard and crossing my fingers.

  • Apple (wired) keyboard stopped working

    Hi everyone,
I bought a 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon "Nehalem" processor Mac Pro (model MC560LL/A) in April, 2011.
1 year and one month later (after the warranty expired, natch), the apple wired keyboard (MB110LL/B) that came with the computer stopped working. No stuck keys or repeating characters, just stopped working altogether.
I didn't drop the keyboard, or spill anything on it. As a matter of fact, I kept the keyboard clean with a cover. I tried the keyboard in every USB port, no dice. I've rebuilt permissions and zapped the PRAM, still no dice. I'm stuck using the clickety-clackety black keyboard from my G4.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Since it's been one month (and 2 weeks) out of warranty, should I still try to get Apple to replace it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    p.s.- OS 10.6.8

OK, it looks like Christmas came early.
I called Apple (and spoke to a WONDERFUL service agent named Hannah), and she agreed to send me a replacement keyboard at no charge, even though the warranty on my non-working keyboard expired 38 days prior.
I was wanting to replace the wired keyboard that I have with another wired keyboard, because of the numeric pad. Unfortunately, Hannah informed me that Apple no longer sells the wired ones and that I would be getting a wireless keyboard as replacement. Bummer.
I ended up buying a new wired one, because I really need the numeric pad. I'll have to send the wireless one back. I feel awful that the good will was wasted. At least I left a glowing review for her and suggested that she get a raise!

  • Apple wired keyboard freezing/delaying on Windows  7

    Hi there,
    First post here!
I bought an Apple Wired Keyboard last week for my PC running W7 Ultimate, Worked fine before, but over the last 2-3 days, It has been delaying inputs, Not doing what I tell it to do, Or repeating an input so I get a stream of the same letter or spaces, Or it deletes everything I have written.
I synced my iPod Touch 32GB 3G yesterday, and the keyboard was almost unusable!
I'm wondering if it is a faulty product, or just something that comes with having it on windows.
It's been a challenge writing this!
    Hope you can help!

Hey, I have this same problem. I think it's something to do with Win7 not being able to manage the fact that this keyboard is also a 2-port USB hub. I've found other people with similar logitech keyboards who can't use them in Windows 7.
Sad, because this keyboard worked beautifully in windows XP, and is now almost unusable in 7.
You find any solutions? I'm surprised no one else has had this problem, but I guess there aren't a ton of people buying apple accessories for Windows PCs.
I'm about to go buy a cheap old USB keyboard and use that, but kind hoping it won't be necessary. I thought there might be a way to disable the USB ports on the keyboard, but it doesn't seem possible.
