Problem with AOL

Hello
I have AOL imap email set up on my phone 3gs.
It generally works ok, however very frequently outgoing emails get stuck in the outbox.
Sometimes it works right away if I retry, othet times I have to keep retrying for hours.
Anyone else having this problem??
Can't find any support on this from AOL - well they have no support at all for free email users!

anyone?

Hi, My connection to the AOL IMAP server has suddenly failed - Says "Not Connected" on Accounts page
I haven't changed anything and this just started failing this morning.
I've saw same issue on my Blackberry PlayBook 64GB.
Is anyone else recently experiencing AOL IMAP Errors?
    Solved!

Yes! Same thing happened suddenly to my Z10 this morning. No AOL.

  • Very often I get a contact error message when I try to use my contact list to send an e mail. If I use internet exployer I don't have a problem, so it can't be a problem with aol.

  • Serious Problems with AOL

I hope Ali B sees this posting. Looks like you are the AOL Whiz. But I will be just as grateful if anyone has suggestions. I am new to posting, and as other newbies have asked, please forgive my inexperience.
When I saw rsw90's dilemma about continuous problems with AOL, it hit a nerve. I have been an AOL member for decades as well, and have had to deal with cross-platform issues and file cabinet incompatibilities as I went from being a MAC man since 1984 to being forced to the Dark Side by business demands and returned to sanity. The problem is that AOL has seriously neglected MAC, and I seek the mercy of the enlightened about how to navigate this minefield.
In August, my file cabinet (AOL 10.3.7) stopped allowing me to save inbox mail to my personalized file folders using the "save to" button. I communicated with some very lame AOL personnel in Mumbai who promised to escalate the ticket, and I never got any sensible help. Then, the file cabinet froze up and shut down my AOL every time I tried to access. AOL help was useless. It was then that they told me that AOL doesn't automatically back up the file cabinet for MAC as they do for PC users and told me to accept the file cabinet was "corrupted" and "unrecoverable" -- something I cannot accept because there were over 20,000 saved e-mails that have serious impact legally.
As it turns out, the signs were there earlier that the file cabinet was becoming unstable due to the storage volume and I could have protected this by transferring or deleting. I could also have been instructed how to back up externally if they had thought to tell me. Another interesting fact is that the corruption only affected my main user sign-on ID, and none of the others.
Nevertheless, I made copies of the file cabinet that was inaccessible in the desperate hope that someone out there could help me move them to another program and open them, or repair the corruption. I learned from Ali B's posting how to install AOL Service Assistant, which touted that it can open corrupt file cabinets in Mail, but I'm not figgerin' well. I did set up the IMAP for my current AOL, but it only imported the file folders from my current AOL File Cabinet (post-crash e-mails) -- none of the contents. It did start importing my inbox, however. What I am hoping is that I may be able to set up a separate Mail account where I can attempt to import the saved corrupt File Cabinet and plan for the big celebration.
    Any ideas?

    Hi stevekinney2!
You probably have a corrupt PFC - Your AOL Personal Filing Cabinet, caused by an excess amount of stored items.
And I am assuming, that you do not a system backup, correct?
NO guarantees, but try this procedure.
First, If you are able to, open your Filing Cabinet from the AOL Menubar's contextual File menu. If you can't do that while signed on, try signing off, but don't quit AOL, and try again.
If there are things in there that you can't bear to lose, there are a few ways you can save them.
Method 1. Drag the item/items to a New Folder on the Desktop. Name the folder something like Old PFC. This folder can later be placed wherever you wish.
Method 2. Open the item/items, select Save or Save As from the AOL Menubar's contextual File menu. The files will be copied to the Desktop. You can then put them all in a folder, as in method #1.
    Method 3. Open the item/items and make copies in a Word Processing application and again, save to a new folder. This folder can also be placed anywhere you choose, such as the Documents folder, in your Home Account folder, located;
HD > Users > Your Home Account > Documents
After you have verified, that the Email transfer was successful, sign off, and quit AOL.
Go to: HD > Users > Shared > America Online: HERE, you'll find (Your Screenname)'s Filing Cabinet.
Move that file to the Trash, but DO NOT empty the Trash. If this procedure does not rectify your situation, you can replace the new PFC with the old one. But I wouldn't recommend it.
Load AOL, Sign-on and see if it's fixed. If all is well, and you've made the copies of important data, there's really nothing in the old PFC that you need, so you can empty the Trash.
I've never had this particular problem, but I seldom keep more than a few items in my AOL PFC.
If I want to keep an article of mail, I use method #3.
If that doesn't clear it up, sign off and quit AOL. Pull your AOL Your Screenname's Favorites folder, which is located:
HD > Users > Shared > America Online: HERE, to the Desktop.
When you relaunch AOL, a new Your Screenname's Favorites folder will be created.
If the problem is corrected, you can drag the old copy of Your Screenname's Favorites, that is on the Desktop to the Trash, and empty it.
If that doesn't do it you can replace the new Your Screenname's Favorites with the old copy of Your Screenname's Favorites, that is on the Desktop, but again, I don't recommend it.

Problems with AOL e-mail and Droid Charge
After setting up my AOL email account on my Charge, it has been syncing new messages ok, but I've been having other problems:
    - Syncing AOL mail: I have the Charge set to sync 50 emails (set up the same way as my Comcast Account) but the AOL account pulls up the last 50 old emails and delivers them to the phone. (Comcast does not do this). If I delete these old messages, it just pulls up the same amount of even older mail. Very frustrating. Because of the 2nd problem below, some of these messages were actually deleted on my AOL account before I realized what was happening. It seems I have to just keep 50 old mails on my Charge to prevent this from happening. Any ideas?
    - Second problem (kinda related) Deleting Old Mail: When I delete AOL emails I have read on the Charge, they are also deleted from my 'old mail' folder on AOL and sent to deleted mail. This is not how it worked on my BB Storm2. After deleting them with the Storm, the AOL mail would show them as read and put them in 'old mail' unless I told the Storm to delete them from the server. I cannot find any "choice" option on the Charge. I hate this because the "deleted mail" folder on AOL dumps its contents much more quickly than the "old mail" folder. How do I stop this from happening?
FYI, both Comcast and g-mail are working as they should.....
    Thanks,

    Dear Richs10,
As to the second problem, I have seen this before in other threads. The only solution I can come up with is to delete the AOL account and set it up on the phone from scratch. The reason for this is that the ONLY time you are able to see the option for leaving email on the server (or removing them) after reading on the phone is during the account setup process. After the account is set up, there seems to be no way to access this setting again. Kind of dumb, IMHO, but that seems to be the case.
If you need step-by-step walkthrough of the account setup, PM me.

  • Deauthorizing computers on itunes - problem with aol email

I understand you can only authorize up to 5 computers per apple ID and cannot combine apple IDs.
I am trying to play old songs purchased with an old aol ID. It appears that myscreenname and [email protected] are two different apple IDs.
I am able to sign into itunes using [email protected] and it says 3 computers are authorized
I am not able to sign into itunes using myscreenname because it says "you need to change your account to use an apple ID. To continue to use the Itunes store you must create an apple ID." When I hit update account and try to make one, it says I already have an account with this email address and that I can just log in.
But when I click on the old songs it prompts me to type in my password for myusername NOT [email protected]
    I know this is confusing...
I believe I need to "deauthorize" all computers on myusername but I cannot log into that because of what I described above...

Ok i figured it out! Just putting this up here in case anyone else had this problem:
    In response to:

I did this but changed the email address to a new one that I actually have now, which took me to the original old account but called it by this new email address. From the account page I could deauthorize all computers.

  • Mac Mail Problem with AOL

Hi. I keep getting the following pop up window error message with my Mac mail: "Mail can't connect to the AOL account...." Is there anything I can do to resolve this?  Please help.  Thx! :-)

After 9 months with the  macbook pro and no problems watsoever, my AOL mail suddenly started having problems but not on my iPad or iPhone.  There's no doubt that the problem was intitated by a change made by Apple to the software on my computer.  As others have noted files with the email settings get scrambled.
The symptoms come and go,  sometimes closing the mail program and rebooting will cure the probems.   Apple recommends waiting 10 minutes ,  are you nuts?  Trip (with appointment ) to Santa Monica Apple store  and the tech was less than helpful , struggling under Apple's   work two customers for their allotted 15 min.
Sorry for ranting in tech space but one of the benefits of paying the premium for Apple products is that they work.  Apple we have a problem here, but you have a far larger problem .....  as a iPhone, iPad, MacBook and Apple stock owner I see the handwriting on the wall....

  • IPhoto Problems With AOL

    Hi,
Recently some of the folks I've been emailing photos to from iPhoto 6 have been unable to view the photos. Other folks using AOL have had no difficulty viewing the photos. Does anyone no what's going on here and what can be done to fix things.
    Thanks,
    Win

One of the AOL folks on my email list tells me that he "sometimes" is able to view photos and sometimes is not, but adds that he has always been able to see the photos I've sent him.
Well that means that at least sometimes the mail is being sent correctly, and frankly, can this person be sure the problem is not on his side?
Another respondent tells me that she "can see the photo you just sent accessing AOL through Internet Explorer while on the road - at home where I have AOL software downloaded on my PC, I would have to download any attachment to see it."
So, is working perfectly for her. She's getting the Mail and can see it in IE or on her Computer. (And of course she has to download an attachment to see it!)
Yet another friend using AOL has never been able to view any photos that I've sent him.
Again, we know the pics are being sent correctly (person 2 demonstrates this), so it has be a issue at the other end.
    Regards
    TD

  • Problem with AOL mail being recognized in sent mail using Apple Mail

    Hi!
In Apple Mail, when I click on the Sent Mail icon, I see the two accounts that I use (one is a POP-gmail, and one is an IMAP-berkeley.edu), but not AOL mail. Its sent files go into this folder that is not included.
Also, AOL mail and calmail (the berkeley.edu mail) have these two icons under the inbox and the sent mail that are black circles with an @ sign in the middle, when clicked on they have several folders about contacts, sent mail... but it is very annoying to have them.
I would like for all sent mail to be included in the sent mail tab, and for these two @ sign tabs to be removed.
Thank you so much for the help!

    also...
is there a way to constantly synchronize my gmail account to the gmail.com inbox... what i mean is: whenever I read a message sent to the gmail inbox on Apple Mail and delete that message, then when I sign on gmail.com the message is no longer there
This somehow happens with the calmail server, when I delete a message using Apple Mail the calmail message is gone when I log onto that website and check the inbox
Thanks so much for all of your help!

Interesting. I tried the demo, I have IE 6.0 and JRE 1.4 beta installed. It told me my JRE was ok and to click proceed to the demo. I clicked proceed and it gave me this mess:

  • Installed Mountain Lion and now all sorts of problems with Aol?

Since I loaded mountain lion my screen names have gone and I cant get my emails via my normal aol site. Any magic solutions?!!

The iMessages application in Mountain Lion supports adding AIM accounts from preferences > Accounts.
    More info here.
And in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars, you can set up an AOL mail account.

  • Having the same problem with Aol not sending my mail and getting error message. If I delete this account, what will happen? This is on my iPad, and I also have a gmail and Yahoo account.

This happened after I was hacked.

If you delete that account from your iPad, all messages from it will be removed. You can then go back into Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars and 'Add Account' to add it back onto your iPad.

  • Problems using AOL ISP number

I FINALLY made the switch from PC to macs. However I'm having a difficulty using my AOL account information to access internet via the Apple modem. I've entered three different ISP numbers, unplugged the magsafe powercord while the USB of the modem was connected, and still no connection. After the modem dials, it connects briefly to then say failure to authenticate the user, and then proceeds to disconnect me. I'm positive I'm using the correct master account and password from AOL. Any suggestions or similar problems with AOL users trying to use AOL ISP's? Thank you.

I've never used AOL but I do remember a time (maybe it's still this way?) when users had to use specific AOL connection software to connect. Is this still the case?

  • HT4864 Server connection problems with ymail. Port 993 timed out. Any advice on fixing problem?

I'm having trouble receiving my ymail emails on my iPad 3. No emails since 12/20/12. Error message says connection server timed out. Does anyone have any assistance to offer to resolve this problem?

Seems to be a problem with AOL, not with your Mac.
