Problem with applet since Java 6u3
Hi all,
I have an applet that gets images continuously from a server by means of Toolkit.getImage(url) method. Since I have upgraded Java to version 6u3 in the machines where I use the browser, the first time the applet requests that method (Toolkit.getImage(url)) there is a delay in this method execution. I have tried to downgrade again to version 6u2 and that delay disappeared. With versions 6u5 and 6u10 (beta) the problem remains the same.
I have seen server logs, and there is a delay between applet method execution and server (servlet) request reception.
Another strange thing here is that I have also checked with a different server (this server is connected to Internet through a different router) and the problem doesnt appear (there is not delay the first time the applet try to get an image). Obviously there is something to check into these servers and routers, but it's also clear that there is something in this new release 6u3 that causes the problem. I have read 6u3 release notes, and there is a bug related to applets and proxies, but I don't see relation with my problem.
Does anyone have heared or readed anything about this?
Thanks a lot
You either don't have the version you thought you had or it is not associated to the Regitry key. Just download it and it should not appear the next time.

Problem with win2000sp3 and Java web start
I have JRE and Java web start (1.2.0_01, build b01) which come downloading file j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586-i.exe from sun.
I have win2000pro running on my PC.
I had updated win2000 to service pack 2 and everything was fine.
Now i decided to update to service pack 3 (in the process I also updated other components) from Microsoft and:
1) Java applets seem to be running fine within i.e.
2) If i try to run an application from java web start my PC freezes and I have to restart it.
3) Staroffice 6.0, which runs on Java, seems to be fine.
I reinstalled both sp3 and jre etc, with no result.
Is this a known problem?
Thanks to all.
MaurizioI suspect that you have hit a known problem with Swing on Java 1.4.1 with buggy video drivers. Do you have an ATI card? They are the worst offenders. ATI released new drivers for its Radeon line today. They fix the problem.

I have a problem with iCal.Since 2 days ago,I couldn't add new event in iCal on my ipad2.It Keeps saying 'No calendar has been set", then if I go to Calendar field,choose one calendar,it gives this msg "That event doesn't belong to that event store". I can add event from iCloud and from my iCal on my iMac. Please help
Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.) -

Anyone else having problems with popups since the new security upgrade? can't get rid of them
anyone else having problems with popups since the new security upgrade? can't get rid of them
You may have inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it. It ought not to be related to any Apple security update.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required. -
Problems with Mail since update Yosemite
Hello
I have a MacBook Pro 13" from approx. Dec. 2010.
I made last weekend the update to Yosemite. Since then the Mail.app does not work correct anymore. I can send mails and I can get mails from my webmail server if Mail.app is open. When I start Mail.app new I can not get the incoming mails from the webmail server. Mail.app does not download the incoming mails arrived in the meantime as the Mail.app was closed from the webmail server. I tried to create the mail account new but that did not work. I can not create a new mail account either.
Now I tried to create a new main account and I installed one of my mail account. there. In this new main account the mail.app is working well again and got all mails downloaded.
So it looks that during the update of Yosemite my existing main account got an error.
I could work now on the new account. But how can I bring all adjustments and data's out of the existing account into the new account? Is this possible to do?
Or how can I fix the existing account that has an error? Do I have to go back to Mavericks again? And how can I go back to mavericks like it was before the update to Yosemite?
Hope I can get some answers that would help me in this case.
Thank's in advance!
RetoHere is my list of problems with Mail since upgrading to Yosemite (all was working just fine before) ...
[MacBook Pro, Retina 13", late 2013, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB, 500GB running OS X Yosemite 10.10]
Mail is very slow (seems to be a memory leak?)
Read emails not being marked as read (sporadic - sometimes it works just fine)
Deleted emails not being deleted (sporadic - sometimes it works just fine)
When replying to a message, does not close original message (sporadic - sometimes it works just fine)
When dragging a message to a folder cannot scroll up (can scroll down)
Message is sometimes blank (but the same message opened fine previously or later)
Message is sometimes one line of text and it is not possible to easily scroll horizontally to read the message (two finger side swipe on trackpad works but not Magic Mouse ... easiest way to read emails is to forward or reply)
Calendar invite messages not closing or being deleted when invite RSVP is completed
I should roll back my OS but this is a real hassle so I am hoping for Apple to submit an update to Yosemite or Mail & Calendar.
Has anyone else had any of the above problems? Anyone got any temp solutions until updates come from Apple? Perhaps changing settings can resolve some of the above issues - I have tried but failed. -
Problem running Java applets since Java update 2 (1.6.0_20)
Hi,
Since I upgraded to Java update 2, Java applets started having problems. The most noticeable ones are:
Non-modal windows appear behing the browser Window (tested Safari 4, 5, Chrome 5).
Double buffering not working as usual (slower, white boxes appear when dragging a window, etc.)
Slower rendering in general
The same applications run perfectly using Java Web Start. And they used to work very well also in Java update 1.
The application can be tested here (press ok if a login prompt appears):
Java applet: http://jmap3.k2geospatial.com/montreal_applet/
Java Web Start: http://jmap3.k2geospatial.com/montreal_jws/dockingClient.jnlp
Our applications running in applets use the new plug-in 2 with JNLP files.
Notice the Java startup splash (the animated sun-like logo) is not moving as smoothly as usual. It is very jerky now.
Are these problems known by anyone?
How can I downgrade Java to previous version?
sorry I cross-posted this in Unix forum also. I think it is better here.
Thank you,
Jean-Robert
K2 GeospatialSince the last Java update on mac, all my OpenGL applets stop working and now just shows a white screen on Chrome, Firefox and Opera. They was working well on all browsers (Safari/WebKit,Chrome,Firefox,Opera) just before the update.
The trouble maker seem to be the java plugin 2 and the new offscreen rendering pipeline, as reported by jrhaddad with the disucssion linked to the different Java/OpenGL community forums.
This is a huge regression for me, and I think for all hobbies/ independent developers and all companies who are doing some Java/OpenGL develoment. All our work just stop working since this update.
If would really want to know from Apple if they are working on this problem and/or how this can be solved.
Should this be fixed by Apple with a new java update, or should the various browsers must upgrade their applet support plugins according to the new java plugin 2 changes ?
Best Regards,

assume that any step has been taken, unless it's been
specifically identified. I'm sure that makes it all
the more frustrating, since you are a very experienced
user.
Now, then:
-- since you have reinstalled the Java Update; and
-- if you open your Help >> Installed Plug-ins, and
scroll down the list and find these three items:
Java Plug-in for Cocoa -- Java 1.4.2 "JavaPluginCocoa.bundle"
Java Plug-in (CFM) -- Java 1.3.1 "Java Applet Plugin Enabler"
Java Plug-in "Java Applet.plugin"
-- and if Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are checked in:
Safari >> Preferences >> Security, as you say they are; and
-- if Enable Plug-ins is checked in the same section,
as you say it is; and
-- you have repaired permissions, as you say you have; and
-- you have emptied your Cache; and
-- your Icons folder ({YOU}/Library/Safari/Icons) has been
trashed if it is over 750 KB; and
-- you have Quit, then relaunched Safari after all this,
as you say you have; and
-- your {YOU}/Library/Caches and {YOU}/Library/Caches/Safari
folders have read and write permissions
...then, I'm currently at a loss as to what else to suggest. -
Problem with Applets in same page
Hai to all,
I am having a problem with GUI in applets
My first class extends a JPanel named A_a
import javax.swing .*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class A_a extends JPanel
JButton jb;
JTextArea text;
public A_a()
setLayout(new FlowLayout());
jb=new JButton("Click me");
//add(jb);
text=new JTextArea(5,20);
add(text);
public void text_appendText(String aa)
System.out.println("I AM IN A_a");
text.append(aa);
text.revalidate();
revalidate();
/*public static void main(String ags[])
A_a a = new A_a();
JFrame frame=new JFrame();
frame.getContentPane().add(a);
frame.pack();
frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
public void windowClosing(WindowEvent e) { System.exit(0); }
frame.setSize(200,200);
frame.show();
and then I am using other class B_b which is an applet carries a exitsing panel (A_a) inside it .
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
public class B_b extends JApplet
public A_a a;
public void init()
a=new A_a();
getContentPane().add(a);
public void text_appendText(String aa)
final String aaa =aa;
new Thread(new Runnable()
public void run()
a=new A_a();
a.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,200,200));
System.out.println("I AM IN B_b");
a.text.append(aaa);
a.text.revalidate();
getContentPane().remove(a);
resize(500,500);
}).start();
and the I am using the second applet C_c in which by performing a button action the old panel A_a should get removed and replace the new panel D_a (which is not here )in the applet B_b with all other components(namely button , text fields etc)
import javax.swing .*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.applet.*;
import java.util.*;
public class C_c extends JApplet implements ActionListener
JButton jbt;
JTextArea jta;
public void init()
getContentPane().setLayout(new FlowLayout());
jbt=new JButton("Click me");
jbt.addActionListener(this);
getContentPane().add(jbt);
jta=new JTextArea(5,20);
getContentPane().add(jta);
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent ae)
Enumeration e = getAppletContext().getApplets();
Applet applets = null;
while(e.hasMoreElements())
applets=(Applet)e.nextElement();
if ( applets instanceof B_b)
System.out.println("I AM CLASS C_c");
((B_b)applets).text_appendText(jta.getText());
((B_b)applets).remove());
((B_b)applets).getContentPane().add(D_d);
both the applets C_c and B_b are in same browser page
How can i achive that pls help .please help me its urgent for my project

Problem with Applet for Microsoft VM
Hi there!
I implemented an applet (first for SUN JVM 1.4.1_02) that has to communicate with a servlet via serialized objects. Therefore the applet sends a request and expects the response :
//establish connection
URLConnection l_con= l_url.openConnection();
l_con.setUseCaches(false);
l_con.setDoOutput(true);
l_con.setDoInput(true);
l_con.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/x-java-serialized-object");
//send request to servlet
ObjectOutputStream l_outputStream = new ObjectOutputStream(l_con.getOutputStream());
l_outputStream.writeObject(l_obj);
l_outputStream.flush();
l_outputStream.close();
//get response
ObjectInputStream l_obInStr = new ObjectInputStream(l_con.getInputStream());
l_response = (MyResponseClass)l_obInStr.readObject();
l_obInStr.close();This works absolutely fine for the Sun VM. Now I have to use the Microsoft VM (because I don't want the users to install anything on their clients).
I compiled the client classes like that:
javac -target 1.1 classname.javaThe applet starts correctly but there is a problem with the communication that I recognized in the console:
java.io.IOException: Cannot write output after reading input.
at com/ms/net/wininet/http/HttpURLConnection.getOutputStream (HttpURLConnection.java)
at myclass/MyApplet.callToServlet (MyApplet.java:109)
Does anyone know what this error means ?
Thanks a lot in advance.Hi there!
I solved my problem by removing all the System.out.println-statements that I used for debugging issues.
Anyway, I want to know if there are more restrictions concerning this matter for using the Microsoft VM instead of the Sun VM. (Because it HAS worked with the debugging statements with the Sun VM).
Thank you. -
Error loading class problem with applet (Newbie)
Hi,
I am new to Java applets. I try to display a simple sample. I put this into html file: <APPLET codebase="classes" code="NewApplet.class" width=350 height=200></APPLET>

Can anybody help please? Thanks in advance.Now I am able to load the applet on MAC OS X 10.4.11. This is due to network issue.
Now my problem with the applet functionality. My applet will display the map image. Applet contains the navigation arrow keys at the top left of my applet. These keys will be used to navigate through the map.
The problem is while user using the navigation buttons, the image got squash and stretch.
This is happened only on MAC OS X 10.4.11 and Its working fine on PC and MAC OS X 10.5.5.
Please anyone help in this regard. Thanks in advance. -
Hi to everybody.
I've got a problem with simple applets.
I've built several applets using Swing components (JApplet, JPanel, JButton, etc.)
In my browser, the background color of my applets does correctly appear.
But none of my components does !!!! No text fields, no buttons etc.
Can someone explain to me which could be the reason of that ?
Thank's.I've just tried appletviewer. And I discovered that there is a problem while trying to acces to a jpeg file for my JBuutons and JLabel.
Appletviewer considers these files are on the client machine and refuses the acces.
But when I try my site, the server is my computer too ! So the jpegs are on the server side !
Furthermore, when I start my web page (that contains my applets), nothing does appear (no exception) in the java console...
How can I solve this problem (I'm newer with applets)? -
Still Having Problems With Applets!!!!
First i'd like to thank all who responded to my last post regarding a downloadable copy of the J2SE API Documentation. I have downloaded it and am quite content.
I am still, however having a problem with my applets (all applets at that). Like i said before. I can view any applets i want through the command prompt using appletviewer. My problem is residing in execution directly through Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x.
When i open the .html file containing my applet, the file loads in the browser but the applet does nothing. When i mouseover the applet a message is displayed in the browser's status bar stating "loading class. classname: class not found".
I have tried every applet i can get my hands on including downloaded applets from applet resource sites (even the example applets that came with the JDK1.4 when i downloaded it). They all react the same way, but will execute fine with the direct command prompt reference to appletviewer.
It's getting very irritating. I have tries everything including setting the classpath in the command prompt. I'm loosing hope of a solution so if anyone might have an idea of what i need to do to fix my problem, or anything i am doing wrong or haven't done, please give me a hint or help.
I am loving the java language and wish to further my knowledge and farmiliarity with it but i need to make sure everything works.
Sorry for rambling and i thank whoever offers a reply in advance.
ChanceH1. Check the codebase parameter in the html file that calls the applet
for example if you have an applet named MyApplet.class inside a directory applets and your html file outside that directory you should have a codebase like this "applets/".
<applet CODE="MyApplet.class" codebase="applets/" WIDTH=640
HEIGHT=480 ALIGN= center>
</applet>
2. Be sure that your IE support java check the properties and enable the JVM.
3. If your JVM version does not support Java 2, applets build on Java 2 will not work. -
Problem with applet file loading
I have a problem with loading files into a java applet. import java.applet.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.net.*;
public class main extends Applet {
private static ArrayList<String> SGM;
public void init() {
SGM = new ArrayList<String>();
String gameDir = getParameter("game_dir");
try {
File fHandle = new File(gameDir+"game.sgm");
Scanner fScanner = new Scanner(fHandle);
while(fScanner.hasNextLine()) {
SGM.add(fScanner.nextLine());
//System.out.println(SGM.get(0));
} catch(Exception e) {
System.out.println("Applet threw error: "+e);
...The problem is with File fHandle = new File(gameDir+"game.sgm"); I tried putting File(gameDir+"/game.sgm"); and appending / to the folder in the <PARAM> tag, but it still changes it to \, which means I can only run it locally, and in Windows. Why is it doing this, and how can I fix it?This file you were hoping to load: it's on the server, right? Not on the computer where the applet is running in a browser?
(At least that's a common mistake made by people when they write their first applet.)
If that's the case then you can't use a File object to access a file on a different computer. To access a file on the server, first you will have to put the file in a place on the server where it can be downloaded. Then in your applet you need to get a URL for the file. (The getDocumentBase() method can be used to prevent you from having to hard-code the full URL for the file.) Next, "this.getClass().getResourceAsStream(URL)" gets you an InputStream from which you can read the data from the file. -
