Problem with ATV

hi this my first time using this support so please forgive me if i am being stupid.
i am trying to get mirroing up and running with ipad2 and second gen ATV my ATV is saying all softwere is upto date but it is only at 4.1 and i know i need 4.4 to get mirroing going
any sugestions

With my particular Apple TV setup and TV combination, I find that setting to 1080p (60hZ) gives my the best all-round round results.
This does result in -slightly- jerky motion with 25fps material (especially old British TV shows), but it's bearable. It's particularly noticeable with sideways scrolling text and credits.
The one thing that is peculiar on my setup is if I use 720p (either @60hz or 50hz) and watch an iTunes-purchased HD episode that is encoded at 24fps I get very odd motion effects indeed. Every few seconds the video appears to speed up almost like it is 'catching up' with lost frames - very hard to explain exactly how it looks. Anyway I set to 1080p and this effect is gone completely. It also goes away if I set to 1080i. I think something queer is going on with 720p on the Apple TV (at least with my TV there is). This happens with both HDMI and component outputs.
It may be worth trying 1080i at either 50 or 60Hz if your set can't do 1080p.
I would also suggest that 60hz in theory should give a smoother motion for 24fps playback than 50Hz.
My basic problem with all this is that on even a cheap DVD player if a disk is 50Hz, the player switches to 50Hz output and if it is 60Hz, it will change to 60Hz. The Apple TV stays fixed. It's a shame it can't autoswitch refresh rates.

  • Sync problems with ATV per HDMI and optical out

Have some sync problems with ATV (actual), TV is connected via HDMI, sound goes over optical cable into DAC (Rega) and then to the amplifier, when using only TV-sound everything is fine, switching to the external speakers brings up a little delay, around 1/10 second. Any chance to fix this?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I believe this delay is caused by the DAC, I don't think there is anything you can do about this.

  • Problem with ATV refresh rates and frame rates

I live in Australia and as such I am subject to PAL, so when I set my ATV up I set it to 720P 50Hz, when I purchased a TV season the episodes were running at 25fps and played back flawlessly with no dropped or added frames. My problem occurs when I download movies, all the movies I have bought are running at 24fps and suffer from quite noticeable jitter, almost like the 24th frame is duplicated and added as the 25th frame, I assume it is something like this as the pause happens every second.
So has anyone had a problem similar to this and if so what do you do about it?
Does the ATV playback all sources (24/25) smoothly even if it has to convert?
Could it be caused by my TV?
Any help to any of these questions would be great.
    Thanks.

  • Problems with subtitles on atv 1

Hi, I have problems with subtitles shown in films on my atv 1. After they are shown they are not be hidden automatically - ?

Couple of problems have appeared recently with IE11 on Windows 8.1 Pro - everything was fine, but I am assuming a recent patch has caused the problem.  Problems are not seen on IE11 on Windows 7 Pro or on other browsers.  I'm running on auto-update,
so should have the latest software versions.
    1) Extra white space is inserted before a table.  It happens on multiple web sites.  Length of the space varies and could make you think the page has failed.  It appears to be consistent for a page but I see no pattern between
    pages.
    2) Multi level Menus implemented through CSS with drop downs to the side are suddenly inordinately sensitive when moving into the drop down making the menu almost useless.

  • Loaded atv 4.2.2 problem with netflix login.  Has anyone solved this problem?

Cannot login to Netflix on Apple TV after the 4.2.2 update.  Ihave done a restore, unplugged and restarted, called netflix and they changed password.  Was able to login to Netflix on Mac Air.  Netflix says call apple.

I am also having this, and I am 4.4.3.  I'm guessing it's a problem with the Netflix app and how it send the password.  It seems that only passwords containing all numbers work, but I would like to have a more secure password protecting my Netflix account.

  • Remote App on iPad not working with ATV

The remote app on my iPad (1st gen) was working fine with ATV last week. I noticed when using ATV there was a message about updating the ATV to a new version. I skipped the update each time as I just wanted to watch the program. However, we recently had a power outage which caused the ATV to shut down and I'm assuming launched the update as I didn't see the update message last night. However, I'm not able to use my iPad remote app with ATV any longer. When the remote app launches it indicates that it connected and it sees both ATV's. Yet, there is no ability to control the ATV. My iPhone 4S does not have this problem; It still works perfectly. I also have an iPad 2 and 3 and will check that shortly. Does anyone know for sure if the recent updates caused iOS 5.0 users to loose functionality?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Problems with iTunes syncing with Apple TV 1st gen

all of a sudden today I am having problems with itunes 10.6.1 syncing with apple TV gen 1. Everything was fine when I upgraded itunes and iphoto 11.
Today the apple TV shows up in devices but when I try to sunc it manually (it won't start autmatically even though it is supposed to,
    I get a message
If you try to sync content your Apple TV (1st generation), this alert appears in iTunes: "The Apple TV '(Your Apple TV's name)' is not responding.  Check that any firewall software running on this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689."
My firewall is turned off. I operate Lion on my laptop
Please help. seems like I had this issue before but do not remember what caused this and how it was resolved

I have a similar problem. ATV1 (3.0.2), itunes 10, connected via wireless time machine (hardwired to router) + airport express wireless extender. ATV showing in itunes menu. All TV shows, movies, music etc showing on ATV (not sync'd) EXCEPT 4 episodes of one TV show that was purchased as a series on iTunes (not on the ATV).
I have also had the firewall error - intermittently.
Have rebooted iMac. Have factory reset ATV and re-set up. Tried just sync'ing the 4 episodes I want to watch. No luck. Tried marking episodes as watched. No luck. rebooted everything. Twice.
ATV1 accesses all other info on iTunes (music, movies etc).
    Infuriating.
    Any ideas?

  • A series of problems with Time Capsule

I was an early adopter of Apple's "Time Capsule," which in theory sounds like a great idea but has been a disaster for me in practice. This is the story of my nightmare.
In theory, Time Capsule is supposed to enable wireless, automatic backups of my hard drive via wifi. I liked the idea because I thought it would save me time and make backups so convenient that they'd be sure to happen.
In practice, it's been slow, aggravating and buggy as ****.
After I bought the device, I brought it home and set it up to do the initial backup of my laptop computer. My first mistake, as I learned later, was to try to do the initial backup wirelessly. The Time Capsule has an Ethernet connection that works faster than the wireless connection. (It ought to have a USB or Firewire port, which would be far faster than Ethernet, but apparently the Apple gods decided to save a nickle at the expense of quality and convenience.) It would also have been nice if the manual that came with the thing recommended using Ethernet for the initial backup, but it didn't, so I didn't discover that this was even an option until I had already wasted several days.
Yes, days. Not hours, but days.
I started the initial backup on a Wednesday night. My laptop's hard drive had about 130 gigabytes of files on it, and after the initial backup had run for a couple of hours, I did a calculation based on megabytes/minute and figured that it should finish up sometime that weekend. This meant that I couldn't take my laptop away from the house or turn it off, but after I'd already invested a few hours in the process, I figured I'd just let it run until completed.
Unfortunately, the longer the backup proceeded, the slower the megabytes/minute rate became. By the following Monday morning, it was only 2/3 completed, and the copy rate had slowed to such a crawl that I had no idea when it would finish. I therefore reluctantly interrupted the process, since I had meetings to attend where I needed my computer.
By that time, I had done some further research online and learned that people were recommending doing the initial backup via Ethernet, so when I got home that Monday night, I decided to do it that way instead of via wifi. However, it was unable to resume the interrupted backup, so I had to start over from scratch. Over the course of several attempts to do this, I discovered moreover that the interrupted backup had corrupted the disk somehow, so eventually I had no choice but to erase the Time Capsule entirely before beginning a new backup. Each of these attempts took a half hour or an hour, so I wasted my Monday evening doing nothing but try and retry to start the backup. (Somewhere in the middle of this I also did a tech support call to Apple, which also meant time on the phone, sitting on hold, etc.)
Finally, sometime on Tuesday I got the backup started, and by late that evening I had my first incremental backup. Hooray! Or so I thought.
The thing ran OK for a month or so, and then for no apparent reason I discovered that backups were failing. Why? No idea. I called Apple tech support again. An hour or so on hold, then talking to an operator, then trying various things. Eventually the tech support guy told me I'd have to erase the hard drive again and do a new initial backup. Great. At least I knew by then that I'd need to do it via Ethernet, but of course it took the better part of a day for the backup to run, and starting over meant losing all of the history in my previous backups. But I did it.
After that, I had a good run for several months...maybe six months. Then, for no apparent reason, the backups started failing again. This time I managed to get the backups working again by unplugging the Time Capsule, plugging it back in, and doing some reset procedures.
A month later, the Ethernet connection started failing.
I have an old iMac upstairs that I plugged in to the Ethernet connection so it can access the internet and file-share with my laptop. One day I noticed that the iMac's internet connection was no longer working. After some testing, it turned out that neither the iMac nor my laptop is able to connect anymore through the Ethernet connection. I tried several cables, tried playing around with settings, to no avail. I had a trip to Hong Kong coming up, so I decided I'd worry about the Ethernet connection after I got home.
On the Saturday before my Monday morning flight to Hong Kong, my laptop died.
It was working fine on Friday evening. I went to bed, got up, and the screen was black. In a panic, I drove to the Apple store and, after much pleading, got them to look at the thing in a hurry. Their tests showed that the logic board was bad. Fortunately, they had a replacement in stock, so they were actually able to repair the laptop in only two hours.
Since then, however, I haven't been able to get backups to work at all on my Time Capsule.
When the laptop died, I figured I might need to restore files from the Time Capsule, so I unplugged it and took it with me on my frantic drive to the Apple Store. After I brought it home and plugged it back in, the laptop recognizes that it exists, but instead of doing an imcremental backup, Time Machine wants to start all over with a backup of more than 140 gigabytes.
    No ******* way.
My plan at this point is to make an appointment at the Apple Store and take it in to someone at their Genius Bar. Maybe they can figure out why Ethernet isn't working and why the incremental backups aren't happening. In the meantime, I don't know if any of the backups that it has done to date are any good, so it's an uneasy feeling. And, of course, I've wasted more time than I care to think about just tweaking and nursing the thing.
    It just isn't worth it.
If anyone has any suggestions for what I should be trying at this point, I'd love to hear advice.

I've got some time here as I wait on my computer (more on that in a moment), so in the meantime I re-read Smokerz's reply to my message. Upon re-reading, I thought I'd respond again.
Smokerz is saying basically that Time Capsule is great for purposes OTHER than backing up my computer's hard drive: "Make your primary TM backup using an external FW800 drive first. ... I don't do TM on TC but use TC as my internet file server for my family who all lives far from one another and stream movies to my ATV. Much better use of TC, eh?"
There might be a case for that use of Time Capsule, but the product is advertised and sold primarily as a wireless backup device. The main page for the product on apple.com describes it as "Automatic wireless backup for your Mac. ... Time Capsule is a revolutionary backup device that works wirelessly with Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard. It automatically backs up everything, so you no longer have to worry about losing your digital life."
Smokerz is therefore arguing that I should be happy with a product that doesn't work for the purpose for which it is primarily advertised and for which I bought it. I don't have any use for it as an internet file server or to stream movies. To say I should be happy with it for those purposes makes no sense.
Here's a little update on my experience with this thing. I made an appointment and visited the Genius Bar at the Apple Store yesterday. My appointment was at 10:40. I spoke with *** ****, who by the way is "Lead Genius" at the West Towne story in Madison, WI. I've got no problems with him. Like every other Apple employee I've dealt with locally, he was competent, courteous and and helpful. He quickly fixed my Ethernet problem, but the more important problem -- the failure to connect to my existing backups -- left him stumped as it did me. The problem apparently is that when Time Machine uses the MAC address of your computer's logic board as part of its way of identifying your system. There is a file on the backup drive that stores this information. It's filename consists of a period followed by the old MAC address. There is a procedure for renaming that file and changing some other settings which is supposed to make the backup work again. The procedure is detailed here:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6893237
The problem in my case is that the file was missing when I went looking for it. (I hadn't been mucking around on my Time Capsule, so I don't see any way that I could possibly have deleted it.)
After some scratching his head, *** asked me to leave my computer and Time Capsule with him at the Apple Store and come back at 2:30 that afternoon. When I returned, not much progress had been made. He had found a way to make Time Machine do another initial backup from scratch within the same sparsebundle as my older backups and thought that once that backup completed, there would be a way to connect up with the the older backups. By 2:30, however, the backup had only completed 4 GB out of the 130 gigs on my hard drive. The Apple Store closes at 9 p.m., so I would have had to leave it with them overnight just to get through that stage of the process. I think I mentioned previously that I live an hour's drive from the Apple Store, and since I had already burned another entire day trying to get this thing working, I had *** give it back to me so I could take it home and try to complete the procedure myself.
Once I got it home, I let the backup run overnight. It took about 12 hours to complete. Now I'm going through the procedure *** gave me, which is documented in a little more detail here on Sean Kelly's blog:
    http://seankelly.tv/blog/blogentry.2008-08-25.8041499927
I just finished spending an hour waiting for the computer to open my sparsebundle (step three of Sean Kelly's procedure). Only six more steps to go!

  • Problems with iTunes 10.6.1 and Apple TV 3.0.2

    Hi
I'm having problems with syncing my Apple TV (ATV) 3.0.2 to iTunes 10.6.1: Only a random sub-set of my music and videos appears against the ATV in iTunes and a different sub-set is actually showing on the ATV itself.  There are no error messages reported and the ATV is visible in iTunes. I have tried the following:
Rebooting the ATV - no difference
Disconnecting from iTunes and then reconnecting - no difference
Performing a factory reset on the ATV - when the ATV first came back (with software version 2.whatever) all of my media was visible against the ATV in iTunes and on the ATV.  However, once it had updated to the latest level (3.0.2) I was back to square one!
Has anyone else found this problem and, if so, is there a fix or work-around?
    Thanks

I have an old macbook too.
It seems like Apple writes new software that makes older computers not work as well.
I always have reservations about updating with an older model.

  • Problems with mirror play to Apple TV from macbook air

    Hi,
I'm having difficulty's streaming from my macbook air to the tv screen via the apple tv.
The Apple TV is conected to the Internet via wifi and it plays rented movies or streaming youtube fine but if i try to watch a movie from my laptop (stream of the net ) and watch it on the tv then it wont work properly , it has excessive lag and cuts out or wont connect to my laptop at all . it wont show the desk top intermittent either and massive delays when it does.
i think it may have something to do with an update or something ? I have mavericks on the air and everything is updated , i have 2 apple tvs and 1 is connected through Ethernet and it seems ok I've also tried to do the same through my imac with parrot but its the same problems even tho its connected directly to the router.
    Thanks in advance
    stu

The Imac has the same problem with playing to the lounge room atv but no where near as bad, ( can actually watch a movie) it just cuts in and out a little but when you watch it on the imac screen its playing fine.
my modem is a netgear dual band and i have tryed both bands and still has the problem i also have a range extender and its bad through that but when I originally purchased the atv it worked fine with it.
I don't watch a lot of movies mainly stream music through the iphone on it and this is why im thinking that an update may have affected it cause it used to work fine but i also did purchase the netgear router and im thinking it may also could be a problem but what i cant understand is the problem is only with airplay or parrot depending on laptop or desk top and no real problems with the iphone streaming movies or the stream ok through itunes apart from some movies don't have sound in itunes .
When you say I can adjust the router could you tell me what to adjust or how ?
    Thanks for your help

  • Major Problems connecting ATV to iTunes

I am having major problems in connecting to my iTunes on my PC. The ATV is not showing up in the devices list at all. It started after I reinstalled windows and reinstalled all the software after having major problems with the internet connection. The ATV is connected to the router with an ethernet cable and I can see it on the router home page. I have also done a full factory restore several times. I can access youtube on the ATV so the connection to the router is good. I can connect to the ATV from my laptop so I can assume the ATV is ok. I have tried everything in the the forum that has been advised and I have tried everything in the apple support also and as some one mentioned in other posts I have a very hot paper weight that I can watch crap youtube videos on!!!!
Any help will be truely appreciated.

Not necessarily -- it can still show up in the list but not be properly assigned a network ID (and not available to join the network) if there aren't enough clients available -- are you sure you have it set to at least 50? And you need to make sure you've cloned the Mac address as well if you have a cable modem. It won't hurt to check this. And make sure you try pinging the net ID of the ATV just to make sure it is responding (if not then the ATV unit itself is probably defective).
Let's assume for a moment that both of these settings are fine and it does ping. At that point it almost surely is a permissions thing -- turn off security at the router if wireless (sorry -- this old man just got up and I can't remember if you are wired or not), turn off any firewall and if you have Norton turn it off as well (all of this just for the moment). Stop the iTunes service, reboot the ATV, and then bring up iTunes (which will start up the iTunes service).
I need to shower and then I'm off to the courts (and perhaps I will have awakened and realized something else).

  • Synching Internet Radio Stations Playlist with ATV - Doesn't always work!

I'm having some challenges with ATV Take 2 and itunes 7.6.1 to synch a playlist that contains internet radio stations. I can get it to work when I first sync ATV to iTunes, but then within a few hours, the playlist does not remain synched, and when accessed through ATV, it gives a message to the effect that "there are no songs in this playlist". The only way to fix the problem is to re-synch ATV, which is a pain.
Has anybody successfully set up a playlist containing internet radio stations in iTunes and managed to keep it synched in ATV Take 2?

I am having the same problem. This is one of the features that I was really excited about

  • For all those with D-Link routers and problems with iTunes dropping AppleTV

My setup: Custom built WinXP PC with iTunes 7.6.2. Apple TV w/Take 2. D-link DI-624 wireless N router, wired to the PC, wireless to the aTV.
I have an intersting phenomenon occuring with my Apple TV. I can sync the aTV to my PC and it works fine, but the first time we receive a phone call on our VOIP phone, the router drops the ATV connection to the PC. aTV still has internet connectivity, but iTunes on the PC cannot see the aTV, and I cannot sync.
A search yielded gobs of folks with D-link routers and iTunes/AppleTV connection issues. I just won an Airport Extreme router off ebay...as soon as I have a chance to test it out I will post back in this thread as to the results.
I know folks don't like the solution to be "spend more money", but I think it would be worth it to a lot of people if they knew a different router would solve their issues (rather than continuing to guess or throw money at the problem randomly).

I have a WinXP PC and a Linksys G class router. I am on Comcast broadband cable. Both ATV and PC are on wireless link. And I have tried a borrowed Apple Airport router (G class). That didn't help resolve this problem so far. I don't think it is a router issue as you will see that many folks on this forum have the same problem with a wide mix of environments. Many of them are on pure Apple components and so one cannot blame Microsoft and non-Apple devices.
Having said this, I hope the new router resolves your issues. In my case, the only option left is to keep calling Apple Care.
