Problem with Audiobooks

Hi all.
Don't know If I have a problem or if the Ipod (5th Gen) just automatically does this. I downloaded and converted a number of quite large audiobooks. The conversion went perfectly.
In iTunes 6, under Audiobooks, I had 1 author, (in this case J.K. Rowling) and several Audio books (the Half Blood Prince, Goblet of Fire etc), and within each book were the chapters. Great I though and synced them to my Ipod.
Here's the problem though. When I check on the Ipod, under Audiobooks menus, none of the book names showed, only the chapters from all 6 books. In otherwords, although Itunes can split the chapters into their relavent books, the Ipod seems to disregard the book name folder, and group all chapters from all books under 1 folder the Audiobook menu.
Am I doing something wrong ?

This issue sounds very similar to one that I regularly have encountered. A significant amount has been written about it at http://www.splasm.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=276 . There are many other places to read about the issue, but I believe that the essence of what is happening is described well here.
As for solutions, that is more complicated. Many people have opinions and have tested many ways of resolving it, but I've only found two ways that actually work for me. First - Use content from Audible.com. I have never had the problem with their audiobooks regardless of length, and others support this opinion. Secondly, limit your audiobook file lengths to 2 hours 15 minutes or less. This is less convenient, but seems to work for me on books created from CD using the Audiobook Builder application.
If you find other solutions, let me know.

Problems with audiobook bookmark?

Anyone else having problems with audiobook bookmarks? I'm listening to an audiobook and whenever I turn off the ipod (hold the top button for 3-4 seconds and slide to shut off) it would loose my place when I turn it back on again.
It seems to happen to my other audiobooks also. I think this is a bug?!

I have the same problem. The only "solution" I found so far is to first play another audiobook. As soon as that other audiobook resets and starts from the beginning it is save to change to the audiobook I want to listen. This audiobook then remembers were I last paused, plays from the correct time on and keeps playing. If I don't choose another audiobook first, the desired audiobook plays for 1-3 seconds and then resets to start from the beginning.
Very annoying. I use audiobook builder to build all my audiobooks. Is there anybody out there using audiobook builder that doesn't have that problem? In other words, is this a problem of the iPod touch or audiobook builder?

Hi, i have problems with audiobooks, chapters from diffrent books stand togheter, the book is mixed with another book, does someone know how to fix this

If i synchronise one book there is no problem,
when I sinchronise more books then chapters from diffrent books stand togheter.
In I-tunes the books are not mixed.
In my ipod classic the books are mixed.
I use the latest version from i-tunes
I work with windows vista pro NL

The easiest thing to do is to make a playlist for each book. I have about ten audiobooks on my iPod and have the same problem with everything being put together in one long list. The iPod does not treat each book as it does an album by grouping each audiobook in one folder, it just lumps them all together in one long list.

I am still having problems with audiobook files that go silent after playing for a few minutes on my iPohne 4S and iPod touch. This is happening to others but I notice no support being offered. I downloaded them from iTunes. Any ideas?

This problem only surfaced a couple of months ago. Audiobook files which used to play fine suddenly startted to cut out after a few minutes (playing according to the countdown but silent).
I tried restoring, resetting, etc but nothing worked. THen I deleted some and redownloaded. BIG MISTAKE. iTunes tried to bill me for these again!! I have been in dispute for week about this and they have finally promised to refund this as it is a 'special' case, but there are still book that are cutting out!!!
This is frustrating and there seems to be no way of sorting it out. The files play perfrctly through iTUnes from my PC but each time a update, the same problem occurs.

Wow, just posting and it seems that there is a solution that is working for me...
What I've did is I turned off iTunes Match on my iPhone, then turned in on again. Now in my iTunes library on my mac I can get the duplicates to be matched or uploaded to iCloud with a right-click, add to iCloud. iTunes Match starts to check the songs and everything is done correctly. Pretty nice!

Problems with Audiobooks and sorting

Hi,
I am trying to put my (old) collection of .mp3 audiobooks onto my nano but am having a few problems.
I have sucessfully imported them into i-tunes, i have set each one as an audiobook (from options) and all looks correct in Itunes (if I go to audiobooks in the library) I see the books (just like he albums in the music library)
However, on the Nano, when I go to audiobooks I just see a long list of the individual .mp3 files (they are grouped together with the right picture) but NOT showing just the books (like an album) - also, the order isn't always quite correct.
How do I get the audiobooks to work the same way as music albums while keeping then in the audiobook library ?

Problem with audiobook download

I'm trying to download an audiobook with my ITunes but it keeps downloading it over and over again without coming to an end. The moment the download is complete it starts over. Does anyone have a solution for this?

I'm experiencing the same thing - we're sitting on an OC-45 and I'm getting 5 - 10 KB/sec. :(

Have you tried using the iPod with another user account or computer, to help narrow down whether the problem lies with the computer, account, or the iPod itself?
Maybe try reformatting it, using the tools provided by Windows. Instructions on how to reformat your iPod can be found in this article.

Problem with a long tracks like audiobooks, half or more then hour

Please, help me to solve the problem with forwarding or other navigation with long tracks... when i try to forward some long track my ipad do it with repeating of short pieces of that track, twice or more... but the time counter are working correctly and count all the time. At last i have a track forwarded to the midlle or less but ipod thinks that is the end of the track and switching to the next

I think the best way to do it is to create linking text boxes, so that the overflow of text from one box appears in the linked box on the next page.
To do this, go to View > Show Layout, then click in the gray margin area to make your cursor disappear. Now when you insert a text box, it will be defined as Fixed On Page, allowing you to move it wherever you want. Insert the first box, then click on the little blue "ear" on the lower right of the box. That will create a second, linked box. Drag that second box to the next page. Move and expand the two boxes as needed.
Adding a background color to text is easy. Whether the text is on the main text layer or in a text box, highlight the text, click on the Text inspector > More button, then check the Paragraph Fill box. From there, click on the color box, crayons, then choose the color you want in the background. Drag that color from the swatch into the paragraph.

This is an update on the problem that I described below:
Windows Media Player
One problem I had was that Windows Media Player would not recognize my muvo players. It turned out that because I was using a USB hub for the players to connect WMP was not recognizing the players. When I used a direct line to the USB port on the computer, WMP has no problem recognizing the player.
Digital License.
As a test, I bought a WMA song file from WalMart to see if its Digital Rights Management was compatible with Muvo. There was no problem with the correct elapsed time showing. I will also test a file from Napster and add its license details here.
Here is something else I noticed - the differences in

I have been able to copy WMA with DRM audiobook files to my TX FM, but the elapsed time doesn't change with either play or fast forward. The file is from Netlibrary.com which supplies audiobooks to public libraries. The file plays, but the display stays all zeroes.
I have been sending information and getting replies and suggestions from both Netlibrary support and Creative technical support with no solution. I have the latest firmware and everything else. I have the problem on both Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers. I have downloaded several files, but none of them show elapsed time. I suspect it is something to do with the DRM, because I can play a preview file from Netlibrary - without DRM - with no problem. I'm primarily using my TX FM for netlibrary.com audiobooks and also get all zeros on the display.
I've been steadily complaining to netlibrary and my local library about problems/inconveniences, itcertainly is experiencing growing pains; we're the ones getting the pain, though!
I'll post here if I find a (legal) resolution to this.
What firmware version do you have? I have .2.04 and I see that .3.03 is available for download. I've read here that there are problems with .3 with volume limiting and I'm hesitant to change. I do notice that one of the listed fixes is:
Updates the elapsed time displayed during navigation within a long recorded track
so, maybe this is the answer?

Problem with syncing audionooks

I have an iPod shuffle 4th generation ..
I have a problem with syncing audiobooks. I have the audiobook file at my desk. When I drag and drop to the audiobooks section in iTunes it doesn't go to it's right place. Instead, it goes to the music section.
I tried to restore it but the problem still there..
can anyone help me please ?

Connection problem with iPod Shuffle 4th Gen.

Hello, I have problem with my iPod Shuffle 4th gen. One day i tried as always to turn it on and listen music but i heard only short "info" sound and saw short green diode impulse and nothing else. My computer (windows 7) also can't find it, after plugging it on, ipod's red diode turns on for 5 sec. Any suggestions?

Yes ... pay attention to how and where you clip the shuffle. Moisture can enter the controls if in contact with damp surface, OR can enter through the earphone jack along the earphone wire... positioning the shuffle such that the earphone socket is down will prevent the latter.
I recently discovered that the mode switch on my shuffle is very sensitive and will change from play-in-order to shuffle with a tiny positional movement. Interestingly, that resulted in behavior that, on the surface looked like the shuffle just quit! I normally listen to to audiobooks and other spoken material which are set to NOT be shffled... however , I forgot to set ONE 1/2 hour radio show to not shuffle. When I accidentally nudged the mode switch, the shuffle switched to playing that show. Trying to get bact to the audiobook I had been playing by multiple << presses confused the issue totally since the shuffle now displayed absolutely no indication of the button presses...it behaved as if it were dead! Turning it off and on didn't help either. Since it was dark, I couldn't see that the mode switch was slightly out of its normal play-in-order position, either. I put the shuffle away and soldiered on listening to a different audiobook on my nano.

Problem with the "now playing"-function after timer sleep-mode

At first: sorry for my english.
I have the following problem with the Nano 6G: I set the timer of my iPod Nano to shut it down after a while of playing. When I turn it back on afterwards, the now-playing-button does not show the song that it played at last. Instead of that the nano is automatically set to shuffle mode which was not activated before and the now-playing-button will show any other song randomly.
This does not happen when I switch it to sleep-mode with the button on the top, only when the sleepmode ist activated by the timer.
Does anyone notice the same issue with his nano? How can I bring my nano to play the same song after the sleepmode, that it played before?

Hey Ipaqman, that strange behavior of the Nano 6G annoys me for exactly the same reason: audiobook in bed + sleeptimer = losing the place. As You say, the 5G works better with that and I also hope that Apple takes notice of that issue and will solve it.
Until that I got myself a "workaround". I create a new playlist on the device, with just the single audiobook in it, that is actually in use. This helps me finding back into it, as long as "now playing" will not work correctly with the sleeptimer.

I, too had this problem and spent a lot of time with AppleCare. After having me take my phone back to factory presets and finding no improvement to my audio files, the solution turned out to be quite simple: customer service re-loaded my iTunes audiobook purchases so the files were up to date. Just wish they'd come up with this solution before I had to completely reconfigure my phone.......

Do All Zens Not Work Properly With AudioBooks?

Do all Zens have the same issues with audiobooks? I bought two and they both have the same issues. I bought the second one because the first one wasn't working right.
To wit:
1. Regardless of how many bookmarks are made at different locations, recalling any one of them brings one to the same place in the book.
2. Pressing rewind or fast forward causes the recording to go to some place on the recording. Always the same place, regardless of where one is in the recording when one presses the button.

IPod Music Problems with the Latest Version

So I am happily using my iPod and iTunes 7 software with my Win2000 notebook and everything was working great.
Then I get a notice that there was a new version of iTunes (7.1) and do I want to download. So I download and then install the new version. All seemed well.
The next day, I go to work outside and I plug in my iPod to go to work and instantly notice, all my music is gone from it. And I think to myself, well that was really nice of the software upgrade to erase all my music off the iPod... some upgrade.
I open iTunes and see that it still sees all my music on the computer. Then I hook up the iPod and open the little icon to see what's on the iPod and all music seems to be shown there but it's all grayed out.
If I use the iPod menu to look for music, there is nothing shown on the iPod... no music, no playlists, nothing.
I did a restore using iTunes which seemed to erase the iPod and then a sync. During this process, I could see all the music being copied back to the iPod. Later, when it was done, I took the iPod outside with me to work and all my music was present and played fine.
Later I came back in and hooked the iPod up for a re-charge. My wife was about travel so I handed the iPod to her. Later I found out from her that there was no music on the iPod... she was not pleased.
So I look and sure enough, there is a later iTunes software update (7.1.1). I figure, there was a bug in the software and they have quickly recognized it and fixed it. So I download and install this version.
Same problem. No music on the iPod.
What's going on here? Do I have to go back to version 7 to get a functioning iPod again?

I'm having a similar problem since the update, but iTunes seems to be a bit more selective for me. Even though it is shown under audiobooks under the iPod on the taskbar to the left of iTunes, the latest audiobook I purchased from the store--Wintersmith--is not showing up on my actual iPod. I've tried restoring my iPod, etc., and it simply won't show up. So far, all of the help topics I've looked at have really kinda failed to answer this problem with a specific solution; they all seem to follow the "try resetting it and see what happens" script. Is no one concerned about what specifically is happening, why it happens, and how to make the iPod function properly without having to reset it every time a glitch comes along?
Any insight appreciated.
