Problem with Autofill and adding songs

Question

I just purchased a second generation iPod shuffle. When I first loaded my iPod all of the songs in my itunes library automatically loaded onto my shuffle. The problem is, that I now cannot add or delete songs. I keep getting the error "the iPod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to".
After reading some posts I downloaded the reset software and reset my iPod, but again I had the same problems. What I did to resolve this was to delete songs from my Library that I did not want on my iPod, then I reset it and the songs in my library automatically loaded again.
Still I cannot change the order, or add songs, or I get the same error message. Can anyone help?

In order to stop the iPod getting filled automatically, you need to follow the steps below.
Click on the iPod icon on the source list under "Devices” and to the right we will see the settings/contents tab. Under the "settings" tab click on the "Restore" button.
Once it is restored, we will see a "iPod setup assistant" where you can name the iPod. Just below that you will get an option to "Automatically choose songs for the iPod" . Uncheck that option and click on OK.

Moreover with Windows XP we need to have service pack 2 installed as its the basic system requirement for iPod and iTunes.
Click on the START button, click on RUN and type "winver" and then press ENTER.
You will see "Service Pack" (SP) followed by a number in a pop up window.
If you do not have SP2 , I would suggest you to install the "service pack 2" for the operating system from the below URL:
