Problem with Bluetooth Keyboard and Lion?
I've just purchased a 21" imac running os x lion 10.7.3 and although the mac sees the keyboard when I set up the Keyboard from system prefs, it says 'keyboard cannot be found even though the Bluetooth prefs says it's there'.
Second, there's an on/off button on the right hand side which glows green for a second when it's pushed, and ditto if you push it again, so I don't know if the keyboard is on or off! Surely it should glow grren when ON and not when OFF or is there a problem with the keyboard itself?

Hello:

Is the KB working on the system or not?

That is the way it is designed. When you turn the KB on, the light is on for a brief period of time. It does not stay on.

[K8N NEO3-F] Problem with USB keyboard and PS2 mouse after upgrading BIOS
Hello everyone!
I have upgraded BIOS from 1.1 to 1.4... I have Sempron 2600 (64bit) so BIOS v.1.1 did not recognise it.
The motherboard works, but after upgrading I have a small problem with my keyboard and mouse.
When I use USB keyboard my PS2 mouse doesn't work. When I connect PS2 keyboard mouse works!!!
Can you tell me what's wrong?
Thanks, bartull@
PS. Does BIOS v.1.3 recognise Sempron 64bit? Can you give me a link to it?I think that the problem may have been caused by flashing either with liveupdate or with winflash. I had the problem when i used winflash correctly (shutting down all programs, checking all the boxes to clear bootblock and cmos) but had usb keyboard connected during flash. My suggestion is to reflash with floppy to last bios version that worked using only ps2 mouse and keyboard with the following instructions:
DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
If that works, then reflash to the bios you tried before with the same procedure. Once you have stable system with ps2 keyboard and mouse working, re-enter bios and enable usb and keyboard support as a lot of bios' have it disabled by default for some strange reason.
Good luck. -
I have just bought a mac mini and am trying to set up. The unit is asking me to swith on bluetooth keyboard via pic 1 then pic 2 shows another switch.
I can't see this switch. can anyone help before i launch this thing out the window!Symptoms
When using Setup Assistant to configure your Mac mini or iMac for the first time, the Bluetooth keyboard may have difficulty pairing.
Resolution
Use a wired keyboard to configure the Mac mini or iMac with the Setup Assistant. If a wired keyboard is not available, follow these steps:
Press and hold the Power button until the computer turns off.
Press the Power button to start the computer.
When a language selection appears, press and hold the power key on the Bluetooth keyboard so that the green light is flashing (discoverable mode).
Use the mouse to click the language you would like.
A code should appear on the screen. Enter the code on the Bluetooth keyboard and press Return. Note: No visible feedback appears on the screen while you enter the code.
The computer and the wireless keyboard should now be paired.

Problem with wireless keyboard and wireless mouse
All of a sudden, after more than 6 mos., I am having problems with both the wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. I am getting a "connection lost" message on the screen with a picture of the keyboard. It only stays there a few seconds, disappears, then the keyboard is ok again.
The mouse is even more frustrating. I am not using the ball for scrolling, just moving the mouse to move the pointer. It will be working perfectly, then for 15 to 30 seconds will either not respond, or be extremely slow, then be ok again. This has repeated a number of times today, especially when I am in iTunes. The batteries are fine in both devices, since I had the problem, changed the batteries, and still have these problems. Any ideas?Brian, I called Apple and I think they fixed the problem with the keyboard. Unfortunately, I did not write down the exact keystroke sequence they gave me, but let me tell you what I did. I unplugged the computer and waited 60 seconds. After I plugged in back in, I was told to immediately hold down 4 keys. I think they were something like Ctrl, Command, Shift, and R. Those may not be the exact keys, maybe it was Option instead of Ctrl, and maybe R is not right. I am not sure. Those keys are held down until the second beep is heard after the computer was turned on. Supposedly, this re-established connections between the computer and the keyboard. Sorry I did not write down the key combination. If you can, call Apple and get the proper key stroke combination

Problems keeping bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected
When I upgraded to IOS Lion, I started having problems with my BlueTooth Mouse and Keyboard losing the connections multiple times a day - over a year ago I guess. I use an Intel iMac and run a home office for an online business. So I am on the computer all day! I tried every fix I could find within the Apple Support Community. I finally reloaded a fresh copy of Lion from a thumb drive as a last resort. Whiped the whole system.
I am now having the same problem and it takes about 3-5 minutes to get the keyboard to connect every morning now when I wake it from sleep. I have a Macally BTKEY BlueTooth keyboard, so I can have the 10-key. I have the magic mouse that came with the iMac.
Does anyone have a better solution or should I just take it to the Genius bar at this point. The problem is I use it to run my on-line business and it is problematic to be without. Thank you in advance!Have you tried making your Bluetooth devices favourites? Doesn't always fix things, but it did for me when I was having regular drop outs with the Magic Mouse.

Mapping problem with Wireless Keyboard and Japanese iPhone
Hi everyone:
This seems to be a slightly obscure question -- at least, I can't find a ready answer for it with the search terms I've tried, possibly because most people don't use this particular accessory with the iPhone.
I have an iPhone 4 that I bought from and use on Softbank, the carrier in Japan, where I live. While visiting the United States recently, I bought an Apple Wireless Keyboard from an Apple retailer. I wanted to carry it with me for use with my iPhone, so I would reliably have a convenient way to access the Internet without being confined to the touchscreen keyboard. (I live in a rural area where WiFi spots are uncommon, but my iPhone's access to Softbank's data network is fairly good and consistent.)
However, to my frustration, I can't use the keyboard due to a mapping problem. The Bluetooth connection is fine -- the iPhone can discover the keyboard. However, the mapping is off: typing "Q" gets me "A," typing "Z" gets me "W", numbers and punctuation are off, etc. The key point: This is NOT a problem with the International Keyboard settings (under the Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> International Keyboards menu). I have the Keyboard setting set to QWERTY, which is the layout of the Apple keyboard; I have tried all the other possibilities, just in case. None of them work. Setting the Keyboard setting to QWERTY does not make the external QWERTY keyboard map correctly.
The rather ironic addendum is this: While on a recent trip to Tokyo, I visited the Apple store in Shibuya and, after concluding the main business of my visit (discussing my MacBook's battery problems with an English-speaking staffer), I took out my iPhone and keyboard and asked him about my mapping problem. He started with the Keyboard menu, tried the same things I had tried, realized they weren't working, and puzzled over the problem for a while. Then he did this: He hit a key combination (I believe) that brought up a menu on the iPhone's screen. "Ah, there's your problem," he said, and selected a new setting. The problem was instantly fixed.
To my chagrin, however, I neglected to write down what "Ken" had done to fix the problem. Argh... I was looking at the iPhone upside-down; I'd already taken up more than half an hour; people were waiting, and I guess, being used to living in the countryside now, that I'm not used to Shibuya crowds any more. Anyway, I didn't take careful notes or ask him to walk me through it, and now I cannot recall or repeat what he did. And I still can't use my keyboard!
Any ideas or advice, anyone? How did "Ken" fix my problem, and how can I repeat it? Much, much appreciated, in advance.THAT'S IT. Sir, you have solved my problem. Thank you!!
And I feel a little silly; this will doubtless seem to an expert as if it should have been obvious all along. But isn't that always the way in hindsight?
Here's what happened: The key combination I was trying to remember was "Apple/command + space on the hardware keyboard," as you just said above. The "menu" it brings up is, apparently, a list of keyboards. I take it that this list is the same as the list of the "virtual" keyboards on the iPhone? I have never had more than one external keyboard -- the Apple Wireless -- but I do have several keyboards active virtually, as the iPhone in Japan seems to come with both the "Nihongo Ten-key" and the "Nihongo Romaji" keyboards active, and I added several other languages as well.
When I hit "Apple/command + space," this list comes up on the iPhone's touchscreen. Highlighted and checked at the top is "English," just as if it had been selected all along. But nonetheless, when I first turn on and pair my keyboard with the iPhone, I need to perform this key-combination action, as if to "reselect" English, and then the keyboard promptly starts working properly as QWERTY. I can only assume that one of the others had been default-selected before -- presumably one of the Nihongo ones? -- and that this was causing the interference.
Thank you again! You have made me and my wireless keyboard very happy. -
Problems with Bluetooth mouse following Lion upgrade
I upgraded my MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion, this morning, and now my Kensington Bluetooth mouse, which I have been using for nearly 2 years, has stopped working. The upgraded MacBook now only registers a connection with the mouse if it is held within about 10cm of the system, but even then it doesn't respond to any movements of the mouse. I have previously been using the mouse quite happily from a distance of about 50cm.
Is this a known problem associated with Lion?Well, after 2 days of completely refusing to work, the mouse suddenly requested Bluetooth pairing, and has worked ever since. I don't know why it took 2 days, though.

Partition problem with Win 7 and Lion
I have a 2011 Mac Mini with two hard drives - the original 500GB drive and a SSD. The SSD is laid out as follows:
$ diskutil list
/dev/disk0
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *60.0 GB disk0
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS OSX Lion SSD 19.0 GB disk0s2
3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3
4: Microsoft Basic Data BOOTCAMP W7 40.2 GB disk0s4
It has my two bootable operating systems and works fine (for now) so I am happy to leave it alone.
The problem is with the second drive. It has:
1) EFI partition 200M
2) Original Lion install 40G HFS+
3) Original recovery partition 650M
4) Space set aside for OSX HFS+ 160G (has some big files in it)
5) Space set aside for Windows NTFS 300G (no files in it yet)
I think there is a problem with MBR vs GPT and Disk Utility vs Disk Management.
Disk Utility or fdisk calls it
/dev/disk1
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk1
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk1s1
2: Microsoft Basic Data 37.6 GB disk1s2 (these entries are wrong)
3: Microsoft Basic Data 650.0 MB disk1s3
4: Microsoft Basic Data 161.5 GB disk1s4
5: Microsoft Basic Data NTFS stuff 300.1 GB disk1s5 (this entry seems right)
and I cannot access the partitions in Lion.
Gdisk calls it:
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.1
Partition table scan:
MBR: hybrid
BSD: not present
APM: not present
GPT: present
Found valid GPT with hybrid MBR; using GPT.
Disk /dev/disk1: 976773168 sectors, 465.8 GiB
Logical sector size: 512 bytes
Disk identifier (GUID): 0000303E-4D40-0000-1B4C-0000F9090000
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 976773134
Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
Total free space is 2061 sectors (1.0 MiB)
Number Start (sector) End (sector) Size Code Name
1 40 409639 200.0 MiB EF00 EFI system partition
2 409640 73900919 35.0 GiB 0700 Customer (name is wrong)
3 73900920 75170455 619.9 MiB 0700 Recovery HD
4 75170456 390588423 150.4 GiB 0700 stuff
5 390590464 976773119 279.5 GiB 0700 Basic data partition (name is wrong)
Windows Disk Management is happy to see inside the HFS partitions, so I know all my files are at least still there. I had a 5th NTFS partition formatted, but upon going into Lion and back, it disappeared.
I think ideally what I would like to have is a spare Lion + recovery partition on this drive in case my SSD barfs, then a big NTFS partition to hold my Windows files. I guess merging the 40G OSX and 160G HFS+ partitions will be ok. Could the problem be related to MBR having a limit of 4 partitions? There isn't any data on this drive that isn't backed up, but I would rather do this partition fixing shuffle without having to restore big files. Any suggestions on how to proceed?I managed to fix the problem. First I used Disk Utility to delete the NTFS partition. It hung during the process, so I quit it, and the partition was deleted anyway. Next, I used gdisk to change the partition type from 0700 to AF00 and AB00 for the Lion and Recovery partitions respectively. It worked and I can access the partitions under OSX again. Thanks, everybody, you've been super helpful.

After some event, I am not sure which one, keyboard stops responding.
Mouse cursor works, but I can't click on anything.
I can't switch to text console.
But I can kill xorg with CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE.
Have you noticed something similiar?

I had that a few days ago, couldn't reproduce it. I was also running xfce4. I havn't had it today and im running xfdesktop+xfce-mcs-manager+pekwm+xfce4-panel... so it may have been xfwm4.

Problems with Bluetooth Status and Startup Times.
For the past little while my MacBook Pro has had slow startup times and the Bluetooth status icon in the Finder does not appear when I first start up the machine.
The Bluetooth status problem has only started in the last week or so. In order for me to get it to display again I have to open up System Preferences, go to Bluetooth, uncheck "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" and then recheck it again and it will appear. Occasionally, it will show up on startup but to the right side of the clock when it normally appears far off on the left side.
As for startup times, this has been only recent as well. I upgraded to 2 Gb of RAM a few months back and everything was fine, now within the past few weeks it has been starting up much slower than it would.
These may not be issues that can be solved. I am debating whether or not I want to re-install Mac OS X or tough it out until Leopard comes along.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
AaronInitially I thouhgt this problem with playback of music had something to do with bluetooth but I'm not so sure anymore.
The problems with music apps stop working correctly after connecting or disconnecting a bluetooth headset led me to beleive that it was a purely blutooth related problem. Now I think that this might have something to do with an incorrectly configured audio device.
The various symptoms so far that can be replicated
Frequent drop outs (short breaks of silence) in playback of music when using a blutooth headset, at least once per musical track
Frequent short moments of stuttering in music playback when not using a bluetooth headset
Drop outs/stuttering is more frequent when display is turned off
Music player freeze if bluetooth is turned on during playback, tapping play/pause doesn't work
Music player freeze if playback is turned off during playback, tapping play/pause doesn't work
If you use the playback buttons on the bluetooth headset immediately after connecting the bluetooth headset during playback with the standard music player you will get a message on the x10 display giving you the option to "force a shutdown" of the player
Ringsignals are stuttering and double speed when using a bluetooth headset
Sounds recorded at a sample rate of 11 kHz on the x10 (for instance using an app like fourtracks) will playback at double speed -
How to fix shortcuts problems with foreign keyboards and photoshop in english
Some shortcuts won't work with a non english keyboard and you'll have to switch to english keyboard to fix this but it's not always practical
You can use a program from Microsoft available here to customize your keyboard
http://msdn.microsoft.com/fr-FR/goglobal/bb964665.aspx
It works well with Win 7 64 bits and it's easy to use !
And you can still use your normal keyboard with others application (windows can switch automatically keyboards)There is too much nonsense talked about HDMI cables. For a start they shouldn't be sold as 1.2/1.3/1.4 etc compatible, the HDMI standard expressly forbids this. There are standard (cat 1 - < 75 MHz) and high speed cables (cat 2 - < 340 MHz) and both will work with the Apple TV.
Strictly speaking a cable should meet the HDMI standards before it can be sold and if it doesn't work you should ask for it to be replaced. Higher cost cables cost more because of quality, quality that is represented in quality control or tolerance, higher price cables will likely have a lower failure rate, but that doesn't mean cheap cables shouldn't work when you buy them.
Uniformity in diameter and in length are paramount. If one component is 1/3200 th of a mm longer than another the signal will become out of sync, variations in diameter can cause the signal to bounce back along the cable.
Personally, I'd never buy an expensive HDMI cable but I'd also avoid the ultra cheap ones, they should work out of the box, but throughout their life they will likely be pulled, bent, tripped over and run over with the vacuum cleaner, better cables are likely to have greater resistance to such treatment. -
Serious problem with sr1901wm keyboard and mouse lock after compaq sign windows vista

Here's what I've found happening between the iPhone & Pioneer for bluetooth streaming audio:
1. The track/artist info no longer displays.
2. The track skip buttons no longer function.
3. The pause/play button no longer functions. It may SEEM like it does, but it simply mutes the audio, the content continues to play (silently) on the iPhone.
4. The content no longer resumes when the vehicle is started.
5. The content will pause when the vehicle is turned off, but a couple of seconds continue (silently) on the iPhone.
6. If content is paused by the vehicle being turned off, it will resume playing on the iPhone speakers following an incoming phone call, whether answered or not. (This can be a little embarrassing, depending on the content of your prefferred podcasts! )
