Problem with blurring background

After spending several attempts over a few hours I would appreciate some help.  I've followed the elements tutorial regarding blurring background.  I get to the step whereby I've grouped the blur layer with the adjustment layer.  After choosing the brush tool and foreground to black, I select the layer mask thumbnail and should be able to paint to reveal the sharp portion of my photo.  When I paint, nothing happens.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a print screen showing the layer structure. I painted black and the McD sign shows up in focus.

    Hi
    The fact you are using a Mac is why both myself and JCellini assumed you where using a pre IE7 version.
    But the code you are using to test in IE will cause a problem with any 'virtual machine' such as crossover, because it cannot reference anything outside its own assigned section of the drive, and referencing the png in the way you are would be for it an invalid reference, it also would not work in any browser when you uploaded the site.
    Change - background-image:url(file:///Macintosh  HD/Users/myname/Documents/websites/test/Test/images/test_back.png);
    To - background-image:url(images/test_back.png);
    But if the region is not editable I would suggest you temporarily make it so, externalize your css to a css file, insert a link to the external css file in your head content, then lock the region once again. This way you will always be able to edit your css without worrying about 'locked regions'.

  • Problems with the background image size in a photobook

    Hi there, I really need help here. When I make a photobook I want to display my images large, taking the whole page. To do that I put the image as a background and it's OK. My problem is that when I do this, iPhoto always crops it. I have to use the move tool to move the image up and down, left or right to chose a best position. I don't want to do this, I want my image to be shown perfectly from end to end. I have to resize the image in many ways, even used the book's native resolution but it still doesn't work. If I choose "fit photo to frame size" I end up with two stripes at the top and the bottom of the page.
    Please help me, what size should I resize my image to, so that iPhoto displays it as it is?
    Thank you

  • Problem with Blur filters in effects browser

    Has anyone had a problem with the blur filters? Whenever I try to skim or apply any blur effect it freezes the viewer. Other effects are fine. Other functions of FCPX still work ok. The audio is ok, skimming works etc but the viewer is frozen. FCP then hangs on shutdown and requires a force quit, but relaunches fine. I have trashed FCPX permissions, repaired permissions for the OS, repaired the HD and redownloaded the application all to no avail. I also have FCPX installed on another startup drive and it does the same thing there. My computer is an iMAC 27 inch I7 with 4 gigs of RAM runing 10.6.8. FCPX is version 10.0.3.
    I did open a copy of the zoom blur effect in Motion and the only unusual thing I noticed was that there is a project loop end marker set at frame 1 of the project. Don't know if that is a factor. Any help greatly appreciated!

    I am refering to any of the blur category filters in the effects browser. I think there are like 6 of them sharpen, gaussian, prism, radial, and zoom. What happens is if I select a clip then go to the effects browser and scroll over the filters I will initially see a preview as you are supposed to. But very quickly that stops and if I go back to the timeline the viewer is frozen showing the previously selected clip. All the rest of FCP works normally ie you can scroll the timeline, select clips, use the tools etc. Only the viewer is frozen. You have to force quit FCP and restart to get back to normal. None of the other effects in effects browser cause any problems.
    I said in my first message all the things  I have tried unsuccessfully. This one is a real puzzler for me.

  • Tiny but annoying problem with desktop backgrounds

    Whenever I use fast user switching to switch from my admin account to the standard user account it briefly shows a picture that was set as the background a long time ago and then shows the currently set background. Its that close up of a bright scarlet rose that comes with the OS. But its been changed several times since then and it doesn't do anything similar when I go from the standard to the admin account. I know its a tiny problem but its starting to really annoy me every time I see that overly bright picture flashed on the screen for a second or two.

    I managed to sort it out by myself.

  • Problem with gray background in SmartForms

    Hi all
    I have uploaded a logo via SE78. The logo have white background both in windows and in the print preview in SAP (SE78). When I insert the logo in my SmartForm the background gets gray, not white. I have tried just to upload a picture that is only white, but I get the same problem here. It is white in the print preview in SAP SE78, but in SmartForms it gets gray background. If I upload it as a black and white picture it gets white background, but I need it to be a colored logo.
    Any one got input on this issue?

    Hii Johan ,
    The problem is the sap conversion,
    it converts every image imported into the system to
    <b>256 colors</b>, converting white (RGB 255.255.255 to 252.240.240 )
    so using <b>Microsoft Photo Editor</b>,
    make the white font transparent and
    then save it as bmp (discharging the transparent converts it to true white)
    define  the graphic in color or black/white. You could define also the dpi .
    also check it by taking print in other printers ..it could as well be drivers problem .

  • Problem with Gradient Background

  • Problems with changing background in Mountain Lion

    After I upgraded to Mountain Lion I went into the System Settings - Desktop & Screensaver and selected one of the included images  - Earth and Moon, as my background. Afterwards I went back into the settings and I get the Beachball of Death and it is telling me "loading images". It will set there and do nothing never loading the images. I have to force quit the app. I have tried several way to enter the settings with same result.
    Eveything else seems to work OK. What Broke??????

    Quit System Preferences if it's running. In the Finder, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
    and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Problem with changing background colors in JPanels

    Hi,
    I have made an applet with Grid Layout and I have added JPanels in each grid. I have assigned a background color to all panels.
    Now what i am trying to do is, change the clicked JPanel's background color to "blue" on a mouse click and convert the previous changed JPanel's background to originally assigned color.
    This is the code that I have used:
    JPanel temp=null, m;
    String tempc, m_color;
    public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent me)
              m=(JPanel)me.getComponent();
              if(m!=temp)
              m_color=m.getBackground().toString();   // retaining current background color so as to change later
              m.setBackground(Color.blue);
                   if(temp!=null)
                        temp.setBackground(Color.getColor(tempc));  // change back to original color
              tempc=m_color;       //tempc and m_color are Strings
              temp=m;               //temp and m are JPanels
         }When I am executing the above logic, background color changes to blue on a mouse click but the previously changed JPanel is not changing back to original color.
    Can anyone please tell where is the above logic going wrong??
    Thanks
    Rohan

    Hi Camickr,
    I tried to do it without changing Color to Strings but i was getting an error in the line temp.setBackground(Color.tempc);, so i decided to change it to String and retrieve it's value in the method.

  • Problem with Transparent Background

    Something happened and now when I go to edit a photo, something weird is happening.
    If you notice the border of the overlapped... thats how the work area in CS4 should look but its not. I dont know whats wrong.
    Running Photoshop CS4 on 32 Vista Home Premium. ATI 4800 series graphic card...

    I think you confused me. I thought you were having an issue with the photoshop border.
    Now it sounds like you are having an issue with the document it self.
    Should I assume you are talking about a new blank document?
    If so, when you create a new document the pop up window will let you specify a background color such as white or a transparent background.
    After the document has been created and you have a white background. Select the layer in the layers palette and double click on it and click OK. This will unlock that layer. Now you can use any of the selection methods or go to the menu and select>select all. You should see a dotted line around the outside edge of the document, this tells you the entire document is selected. Just hit the delete key and the white background will be replaced with the transparent background.

  • Problems with coloured background in Dreamweaver CS6

    Hi,
    Probably best if I attach images rather than describe the problem, so that's what I'll do.
    As you can see there is a grey bar to the side of the page and it is the same at the bottom when I zoom out. I'm making this website as part of my Uni course and I have to follow a specific template so, please, don't judge me on what it looks like... lol.
    The code for the background section looks like this:
    body {
              background-color: #CC9966;
              background-repeat: repeat-y;
    I have also coloured the footer.
    #footer {
    colours for text within the
    footer division, ie <p id="footer">
    color: #2D2D2D;
    background-color: #CC9966;
    So what do I have to change to make the colour fill the background entirely? I'm an amateur so please don't use too much technical language. I'm sure it's a simple fix, anyway.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Problem with Inserting Background

    Hi there,
    when I'm trying to insert a background movie or picture, LiveType crashes and gives me this error message:
    (-NSProTextFieldCell setNode:displayState:: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1a5031b0)
    Can someone help me out?
    Thanks

    Are you using the *Place Background Movie* or Place... commands from the Edit item in the menu bar?
    Or trying to do this another way?

  • Problem with Desktop Background

    So I've tried researching and figuring this out on my own but I nothing's working.
    I few weeks ago I changed my desktop background to an image I have on iPhoto, changing the picture through the application itself, if I remember correctly.
    About a week ago I decided I wanted to change my desktop background. I go to System Preferences and click on an image in a folder and, within minutes, the image I had before is on again. I've tried different pictures, different settings in "Desktop & Screen Savers," I've tried deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.preference.desktopscreeneffect.plist as suggested in http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10696928 yet to no avail.
    Any other suggetions? Thanks.

    It sounds like you might have already done this, but make sure the Change Picture option is off in System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver.

  • Problems with "Background Eraser Tool" and "Blur". The tools don't affect the whole area but just connect the start and the last points.

    Hello!
    I have some issues with Photoshop CC 2014. The tools "Background Eraser Tool" and "Blur" won't work correctly. When I’m holding down the left mouse button and trying to erase or blur some area, the tools don’t affect the whole area but just connect the start and the last points – like drawing a line. These troubles exist with mentioned tools only, other tools work correctly.
    I’ve restored each tool separately, restored all the tools together, installed new drivers for tablet, re-installed Photoshop and even Windows. Nothing helped. These tools worked correctly earlier with the same adjustments, but one day something went wrong.
    How can I make the tools work correctly?
    Some information about my computer:
    • Notebook Lenovo Y560
    • Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 x64
    • Intel Core i5 2.53 GHz
    • 4Gb RAM
    • ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 1Gb
    • Tablet Wacom Bamboo CTL-470

    Hi,
    I have a similar problem with the Background Eraser tool as well. It's the same both on my PC and on my laptop, both running Win 8.1 and PS CC2014. Would be great to have a solution for this. Did you managed to find a fix?
