Problem with Brother DCP7040 printer

I'm having trouble printing out a test page to a remote Brother DCP 7040 printer, whose driver isn't readily available in the repositories or AUR. Whenever I try to print the test page (from the system-config-printer tool), cups gives me the error:
/usr/lib/cups/filter/brlpdwrapperDCP7040 failed
Here is the diagnostic output

I, like the person in link, also ripped DCP7040.ppd and brlpdwrapperDCP7040 from $pkgdir/usr/local/Brother/cupswrapper/cupswrapperDCP7040-2.0.2, and I followed the advice on that thread, but still get the same error messages.
Since I'm trying to connect to a remote printer on a Windows computer via samba, the problem might also lay within that. I've noticed that whenever I try to add the printer from the system-config-printer dialog  and try the SAMBA option, sometimes my wireless adapter shuts down altogether, forcing me to restart, but that may be irrelevant.
Can anyone help me find out what's wrong? I may be too much of a novice to understand what's going on.

Is it 32 or 64-bit. If it is 64-bit, the print driver for AA7 does not work on that system. You can install AA7 except for the printer for a 64-bit system. In that case, you will have to install another PS printer (like the HP 4500 PS) with the port as File:. I also suggest you change the name to be the Adobe PDF printer that you are substituting for. You then print to file and open the file in Distiller to complete the PDF creation (watched folders are also possible from Distiller to automate the process somewhat). You have to provide a folder as well as the file name when you print, such as "C:\adobeapps\test.ps." Then run test.ps through Distiller. You will have to follow the extra steps to create PDFs with AA7.

    Hello there, @jesseangelique ,
    Welcome to the Community!
    I would love to help you with the printing issue you're having, since the Windows 8.1 that was done.
    Please run the Print and Scan Doctor. Write me back with the results or post a screen shot of the results and I will have a look at them.
    This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results.

  • Problem with countinuous paper printing in dot matrix printer

    Hi All,
      I have problem with dot matrix printer (Devise Type EPESCP) while printing continuos printing. If  i am printing 2 or more than that prints at a time, 2nd page is printing 5 lines up.
    I have developed one smartform for this and i have used A4 size page format.
    I have tried to change the Printer initialization code to 86 lines for DINA4.  Still no change in continuous printing.

    Can any one help me.
    Thanks,
    Vishnu

    Hi Vishnu,
    Above you have the following commands:
    set line spacing 6 LPI
    \e\0x32
    set page length 86 lines
    \e\0x43\0x46
    46 HEX = 70
    So the above settings mean 70 lines at 6 LPI = 11.66 inches.
    So is the paper length 11.66 inches? If not, you should adjust the settings accordingly.
    Regards,
    Aidan

  • Problem with Photoshop Elements Printing

    I have been using Photoshop Elements for a couple of years now and know it pretty well.  Today while attempting to print, a strange problem came up:  After going through the protocol to make a print, just before the image prints PE does a very fast auto correction that basically ruins all the color correction I have made on the image.  How do I disable this function?

    Hi and thanks for your reply. I checked the settings under "Print", "More Options", then "Color Management" and it only has "Print Space", none of the three options that you said I should have.  Am I looking in the wrong place?

      Check your color management by clicking More Options in the print dialog There are basically three options:1) Printer Manages Color2) Elements Manages color3) No color Management Make sure everything is consistent e.g. if you choose Elements manages color make sure color management is switched off in the print driver.

  • Cannot print due to a problem with the current printer

    Cannot print (anymore) due to a problem with the current printer is the message I get every time I try to print something out. I tried to reinstall the printer's software, I changed the cables, but nothing happened. It seems to be something related to the printer setup utility. Any big idea on how to solve this? I was printing without problems until this afternoon. I have a HP Laserjet 1022 and sometimes I use Adobe Acrobat Writer. None is currently working.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Problem with the MVMapView.print(printMapDiv,) function.

    Hello,
    I have a problem with the MVMapView.print(printMapDiv,) function.
    My FOIs are displayed correct on the screen but on the printed letter
    the stroke(border) color and the labels of a circle are not displayed.
    the fois have a custom style:
    var xmlDef = '<svg width="1in" height="1in">'+
    '<g class="marker" '+
    'style="width:40;height:40;stroke:0xff0000;fill:0x00ff00;stroke-width:1.5">'+
    '<circle r="20"/>'+
    '</g>'+
    '</svg>';
    markerStyle = new MVXMLStyle("my_vector_icon_" + i + '_' + j, xmlDef)
    and are created like this:
    v_result = new MVFOI(p_geofeature.foiId, p_geofeature.foiGeomertyObject, markerStyle, null, 30, 30);
    v_result.setHTMLElement('1',0,0);
    Browser: I can see the map with a green circle, a red border and '1' as a label on
    top of the Circle.
    Printed Letter: I see the map with the green circle but no red border Color and no label.
    The implmentation of the printing function uses the same techique like the "Oracle Maps Tutorial"
    It is a javascript function called through a href link:
    function mapPrint()
    var a=document.getElementById("printmap");
    global_gdi.mapviewer.mapview.print(a);
    Version is Ver11_1_1_5_B110527
    Does anbody know how to print the map properly including the contents of the
    MVFOI class set trough setHTMLElement function?
    Greetings
    Andre

    Thanks for your reply but it is not working and i can prove that.
    I have a small example based on the mapviewer print tutorial. To run it you need a
    mapviewer installation and copy the text into a html file. In the browser you can see
    a green point with a red border and red label text on a map.
    If you use the print button everything except the label text will be printed.
    I think this is a mapviewer css-api bug.

    Hello,
    I think you answered the question yourself. You upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and now the scanner isn't working as it should.
    You need to update the Brother drivers. Go to their web site, download and install the software, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.
    Since you are trying to scan into Adobe software, there might be a TWAIN driver necessary to update.

  • Anyone got luck on Brother DCP7040 printer?

    I just got this DCP-7040 and installed by modifying the DCP-7030 PKGBUILD on aur. CUPS seem to recognize the printer alright, but the printer does not respond to any job sent to it, and cups shows all the jobs are completed.
    CUPS is giving the error in its log:
    Unable to set ACLs on root certificate "/var/run/cups/certs/0" - Operation not supported
    What does it mean?
    So I blocked usblp, set up the udev rule according to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cup … CUPS_1.4.x. The device is now 0664 owned by root:lp. The scanning function of it is setup working fine. The printer works normal under windows.

    Once everything installed I noticed a few further problems and finally got things working (I'm running 64-bit Arch), maybe they will help you.
    One other caveat: my DCP-7040 is connected to a remote machine and in my CUPS installation I'm connecting to it via IPP, not locally through USB.
    So there may be other issues that I haven't run into because of this.
    make sure /usr/lib32/libbrcomplpr2.so is linked correctly: mine was linked to where I ran makepkg and not to /usr/lib/libbrcomplpr2.so (which I now corrected)
    go through every binary in /usr/local/Brother/[inf|lpd] and make sure that running "ldd" on it resolves every library correctly, and that the same is true for each library successfully found (that's how I found the above problem)
    go through every shell script in /usr/local/Brother/[inf|lpd] and make sure that all internal programs/paths are correct.  I found one occurence of /usr/sbin/pstops instead of /usr/bin/pstops, and several references to "a2ps" which was not installed - I have since installed it separately
    Once I did these things I was finally able to get a test page printed.
    I believe they were quietly failing, because CUPS kept showing successful jobs even though nothing ever made it to the printer.

  • Problem with NIReport.llb\Print HTML Report using IE.vi on different machines

    We have 5 machines here in our workgroup which have the same state regarding security patches and other system updates. We recently found out that there is a problem with the NIReport.llb\Print HTML Report using IE.vi on the different machines.
    If I would open the VI on MachineA the control could be loaded. If I would open the VI on MachineB the control could be loaded. If I would copy the VI from MachineB to MachineA and open the VI the control could not be loaded. If I would copy the VI from MachineA to MachineB and open the VI on MachineB the control could be loaded. MachineB could load the version from MachineA and MachineB but on MachineA only the own version will load. I have seen that both versions have the same GUID for the Microsoft Webbrowser but are different in some other aereas.
    Since printing HTML Reports is part of the application which will be distributed as application I want to know if someone else have seen such a behaviour or has got problems distributing an application.
    Also I want to know which additional information is stored in an Active-X container about the control beside the GUID.
    We have Win XP Prof SP2 with MS IE 6.0.2900.2180 on all machines in the workgroup.

    Hi Tom,
    this is the VI <vi.lib>\Utillitiy\NIReport.llb\Print HTML Report using IE.vi copied from a machine that can load and run the VI and it will print. On this machine the control in the VI is white.
    This VI will give the "Control could not be loaded" message on my machine.
    The file shdocvw.dll is 2006-10-23 16:18 size 1.460 KB and I verifyed that both machines have the same version of this file.

  • Problems with stopped HP Print Jobs on Mac OS 10.5.

     I have several Mac Stations with different Mac OS X versions (Mac OS X 10.5-10.7) and bought 2 HP Laser Printers:
    - HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dw
    - HP LaserJet Pro 200 M276nw
    After installing the HP Driver SW on all Mac Stations I changed then on the Printers the dynamic IP address to static ones. The printing didnt work anymore from the Mac Stations. I re-installed all Driver SW on every Mac Station. Then Printing worked on every Mac, except only on the Mac OS X 10.5. Station the Print Jobs were always stopped after any Print attempt.
    This appeared on the Mac OS X 10.5. Machine in the Printer Spooler Job Message Window and within the error_log File content:
    - can't create PictWPSDoc from `/private/var/spool/cups/xxx'.ERROR during execution of pictwpstops. Error number -9783
    As it seems like problems existed with file permissions I ran a complete Disk Utility File Permission Repair. Then another reinstall of the HP Driver Packages. - Still the same failures with stopping Print Jobs.
    Then I read the README file of the Installation Package. And the quite simple solution was:
    DE-INSTALL the HP Driver SW FIRST (with the HP Deinstallator), BEFORE RE-INSTALLING the HP Driver SW again.
    So I did this, then no Print Jobs were stopped anymore and both Printer are happily printing.
    The conclusion is, I guess, Mac 10.6..10.7 does not have problem with multiple re-installation of the HP driver SW. Only the Mac OS 10.5. did NOT work anymore after another reinstall of the Driver SW Package, and without de-installing it properly. The bottom line is to de-install the driver SW (and maybe disk repair) properly BEFORE another insallation wants to be done. This however solved my printing problems on the Mac OS X 10.5. machine.

  • HP Laserjet 1020 problem with double-side printing

    Hi, everyone!
    I have a problem with my printer HP laserjet 1020. From the community I know that there is no driver for 1020, but there is for 1022 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907). I installed it and everything was fine until I tried to print 2-sided page... It appears 2-sided option disappeared and I don't know how to fix this...
    Can anyone help, please?
    Thank you for looking.

    AMW122,
    The part in the photograph appears to be part of the fuser assembly.  If it is part of the fuser assembly, I would recommend you replace the fuser.  An internet search on "LaserJet 3300 fuser" found several links.
    From what I can see, it appears that the fuser sleeve is damaged which will continue to worsen.
    If it is not the fuser, can you post another photograph further away so that we can see the location on the printer where it is located, etc...

  • Problem with exporting and printing from pages to PDF

    I have a problem with my Pages
    My font will not be embeded in my pdf files.
    I have saved as a ps file and in to the destiller and my fonts are missing.
    I need to send my file to the print shop but they will not accept my file and i now understand why.
    fonts are missing...
    Is there a workaround.
    I have no problem in Indesign or quark but pages.....
    I need help
    thanks a zillion

    The font is coming from a notation software Sibelius 4 and is namned opus
    Hmmm ... Sibelius is a music notation software and notations are marked up in MusicXML. Presumably the font file is an SFNT with TrueType splines, but it is probably not installed in OS X system folders - rather in an internal Sibelius application font folder. So presumably you do not see the font in FontBook and OS X font auditing does not apply to the font.
    Sibelius exports EPS files, right? If memory serves, an EPS is still legal even if the font resource is not embedded. And in any case, we know from the behaviour that the font resource is not embedded for some reason. So how do you get Sibelius to put the font resource inside the graphic ... normally there is a button in the EPS export procedure that gives you the option to Embed All Fonts.
    You do not seem to get this button, though. Or why else would you not have checked it already and the problem would have gone away already.
    The next point in troubleshooting this is that you are not following the path that would let OS X detect that an external font resource is not embedded.
    I go from pages-print-printer- acrobat Pro 8-save as Pdf-x
    What you are doing here is telling Pages to tell OS X to generate a PostScript program within which is nested your Encapsulated PostScript program with the call to an unresolved external font resource.
    So why does Acrobat Pro not detect the unresolved external font resource? Hmm ... did you try the Preflight option in Acrobat 8 Pro? It should provide information on unresolved embeddings.
    I have also tried pages-print-printer- acrobat Pro 8 and save pdf as postscript and put the postscript file in destiller 8 pro with defalt setting high quality print
    The whole problem with EPS and PS is that this sort of situation is possible in the first place (plus, what is worse, the PS program can include custom additions to the graphics model that then fail in the PS interpreter whence Apple GX normalizing, Adobe Distiller normalizing, and Apple Quartz normalizing). You want to get as far away from EPS and PS as possible, believe me.
    So, you have not done what I posted that you should do in the first place. If I were you, I would first get rid of the problem that the EPS is making a call to an external font and then get rid of the problem that the PostScript is preserving the external call.
    To get rid of the problem that the EPS is preserving an external call, simply open the EPS in Apple Preview which includes a NORMALIZER for EPS/PS, and then save out the graphic as PDF. Alternatively, if you don't trust Quartz for some reason, set up a hotfolder for Distiller, make sure the option to embed all fonts is enabled, and convert the EPS to PDF.
    Now replace your EPS in Pages with PDF in Pages, and don't save PostScript to disk but save PDF to disk through the proper procedure which is File > Print > PDF > Save as PDF/X [for your custom configuration of the PDF/X-3 filter considering that no sane person in North Europe prints lowend US SWOP, we use ISO].
    If you begin by telling OS X that you want PDF within which fonts are supposed to be embedded ALWAYS, then you have started the right way. Otherwise, you have not told the operating system what you want to do, and this then leads you into places where you are unlikely to have the expertise to troubleshoot problems.
    So, forget placing EPS in the first place, place PDF. And forget saving PostScript to disk, save PDF to disk. If that does not sort your problem, here is the dirty solution for professional prepress.
    Adobe Photoshop has an EPS rasterizer that has wide tolerances for poor PostScript programming (so does Adobe Illustrator 6 and higher by the way).
    Therefore, if an EPS is posing problems, one workaround is to rasterize the EPS at high resolution in Photoshop and place that high resolution PDF in your layout.
    Take care that you rasterize as 1 bit at the required resolution of the print provider, probably 2450 dpi. When you save the 1 bit as PDF, Photoshop automatically compresses to a very, very small file (don't be surprised if 15Mb compresses to something like 0.5Mb).
    Rasterizing in Photoshop should not be necessary if you simply start by telling the operating system what it is you are trying to do. Then the operating system should be able to take the right decisions for you, and tell if you if finds problems it cannot resolve without turning to you.
