Problem with Camino
Okay, I have this issue when I use Camino with my Macbook. Whenever I open Camino on the Macbook, it connects automatically with my iMac. If my iMac is not on at the time I open Camino, I get the beachball and the app locks up while it attempts to connect to my iMac.
I do not understand why it is doing this nor what I did to initiate this automatic connection. Furthermore, I haven't the slightest idea how to cancel this as I would love to.
Any suggestions as to what I need to do to put an end to this?
Thanks!

Brian I,
what do you mean by "connect"-It opens the Network
connection to your iMac?
Are you sure the Camino icon you are clicking on
isn't linked to Camino on your iMac?
Re-download Camino, and make sure it installs
correctly on your MacBook in the Application folder,
then click from there (not the dock)
What is your start page set to?
Yes, it opens the network connection to my iMac. I tried what you suggested and deleted and reinstalled Camino but I still get the same results.
Any ideas? My start page is set to apple.com.

Problems with Camino and Safari browers on sites streaming audio and video.
The Camino browser (latest update) will not allow me to type anything if I am listening to a site with streaming audio or video. As soon as I start typing, I get white patches all over the place. The only solution was to use Safari for listening and do the typing on Camino. Now, Safari freezes on every single site that has any streaming. The Safari version is 3.03, and it was working fine a few days ago. Any ideas?
Hi,
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file. Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. Try a .flv file. If it downloads the file as it should then move the .plist file to the Trash, otherwise move it back to the Preferences folder.
If that didn't help, back to the Finder window, Home folder, Library / Safari. Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash. Restart Safari. Try again.
And check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Could be an Extension causing a conflict. If you have any installed, turn that off, relaunch Safari, try again.

Problem with Firefox freezing/crashing
Anyone having problems with Firefox. I have the latest installed on my MBP but it crashes frequently. Usually when trying to shut down, it'll just freeze. the computer is stable (26 days uptime and counting). The only issues I have are Firefox, Illustrator & Dreamweaver (rosetta apps)occasionally crashing and Firefox's frequent lock ups and crashes. I'm assuming when I can afford to cop the Adobe's latest, the Adobe/Macromedia apps will be fine. But I need help with this browser. Anyone figured out how to resolve this?
I wish Camino worked as universally well as Firefox cuz I'd just hope over to it. Advise me please.this is really long and looks cryptic but here goes...

I'm having a lot of problems with tables not reflecting their formatting when I open them in a browser. I've tried opening in Safari, Firefox & Camino with the same results. For example, a row with the following html content has a much larger height & aligns the text to the top when opened in a browser:
<tr>
<td height="15" colspan="3" valign="middle"><h6 align="center">Summer 2009</h6>
</td>
</tr>
If it matters, this is a row in a table nested in another table. Here's the code down to the row in question (all tags are closed properly in the remaining code):
<table width="600" border="2" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td align="center" valign="top"><img src="images/events.jpg" width="250" height="35"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left" valign="top">
<table width="100%" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="0">
<tr>
<td height="15" colspan="3" valign="middle"><h6 align="center">Summer 2009</h6>
</td>
</tr>
I am using a style sheet for text. Here's the code for "h6" if that matters:
h6 {
font-family: Verdana, Geneva, Arial;
font-size: 14px;
font-weight: bold;
color: #660099;
Any ideas is appreciated. This is driving me nuts. Spacing and alignment sometimes work and sometimes don't work. Dreamweaver is supposed to make such things easier!
KevinHeader tags are usually used round a bit of text, not parts of a table, and if you don't specify the margins on them, can force different amounts of space below in different browsers. Try making the bottom margin on h6 zero, and confine it to text within a cell.
Also, if you can upload your page somewhere and let us have the url it will be easier to troubleshoot. -
Is Anyone Having Problems with the newer version of Firefox?
I still have my older Mac OsXv10.4 Tiger software. I wasn't exactly happy with Safari browser as it would block many sites and were considered incompatible so I downloaded the free Firefox browser (the 2.0 version) of which I STILL have. I'm aware that there is a much newer version and would like to download that, but I've heard a lot of people saying they have been having severe problems with it, but then they have PCs and not Macs.
So my question is for you Mac users that use Firefox, have you had major problems with the newer version? I'm real hesitant to download if I'm going to have the same problem PC users are having...like constantly crashing. Also would my old Tiger software be compatible? I don't want to upgrade to Leopard.Yes. I had problems with Firefox 3.5. The primary problem was very slow or never-ending loading of certain websites (particularly secure sites and sites with many features). I also have had similar, but not as bad, problems with Safari 4. I never had these problems with Safari 2 or Firefox 2. It just seems that with each update, the problems increased for me. I have read the Safari and Firefox forums and tried many fixes with little improvement. I have come to the conclusion that there is some kind of compatibility problem between the latest versions of Safari and Firefox and Shockwave Flash and/or Javascript and OS 10.4, particularly on PPC Macs. I expect there are many who will disagree and I cannot argue or prove the point. This is just my opinion. And I recognize that my problems could be caused by my setup and not by the browsers. By the way, I do not use any add-ons with any of my browsers. Anyway, I got tired of dealing with it and installed the latest version of Camino about 2 weeks ago. I also did a clean install of Firefox 3.0.13. Camino is working out great for me. It is simple and it works. No problems at all. So currently I am using Camino as my primary browser and Firefox 3.0.13 as my backup. I hope this helps.

So I'm having a problem with flash player, and was wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing, or might be able to help.
- Upgraded 2 computers to snow leopard, macbook pro laptop, and mac Pro tower (intel proc).
- Laptop has no problems, everything renders fine, and without any difficulty.
- Mac Pro doesn't display any dynamic data, text fields show up blank, some flash player controls don't work, brightcove player won't load completely... things are just not working right.
- Main browser is Safari, but same problem exists in Camino, Firefox, etc...
- I've had Safari Stand installed, but have since removed it.
- I've removed GROWL notifications completely
- I've got debug and developer menus turned on (but have that with the laptop also.)
Please see the screenshot attached. This graph should have text data on it showing the x/y axis, the key, as well as data when you mouse over each block, but doesn't show anything.
The second screen shot shows a brightcove player from our website... There should have full controls at the bottom, and nothing shows up. If I right-click, and go to 'view full screen', I can't then get out of full screen by clicking escape key on the keyboard, I have to use any player controls, or right-click again, and hit 'exit full screen'.
Anyone have any suggestions? It's something to do with my computer, rather than snow leopard, because flash works fine on my laptop, but not on the desktop. Any help is really appreciated !Hi!
I reached your post because I was having the exact same issues as you and I found a fix that worked for me! The problem is a font issue: I logged in with the guest account that had no users font installed and flash was working fine, so I logged back into my account and moved all the fonts in my 'User>Library>Fonts' folder in a folder in the desktop. Then I closed and reopened Safari and Flash was working!
In the end the problem was with a version of Arial that I had in my users' font folder: I deleted just that, put my users' font back in the folder and the problem disappeared.
I hope it hepls!

Problem with Dark Room theme.
I have created a homepage in iWeb 3.0.1 with the Dark Room theme (web.me.com/jmsuijkerbuijk). Everything looks fine (that is: the way I intended) in Safari 4.0.3 and OmniWeb 5.10.1, incomplete in Opera 10.00 and Camino 1.6.10, and plain terrible in Firefox 3.5.3 (you really don't want to know the result in Internet Explorer under Parallels!).
The problem is manifest with pictures that are titled and/or drop a shadow. In both Opera and Camino the shadows are missing; in Firefox the shadows are present, but are not titled with the picture itself, which returns a ridiculous result.
Is there something I can do to have all or most browsers show proper imaging? Thanks in advance!Camino 1.6.10, however, has problems rendering the pages in a number of areas. I don't worry about Camino as it's not used by many.
There are just two pages that look to have problems with Firefox 3.5.3. The Biography and Score Samples. The photos have both a drop shadow and reflection. The drop shadow is misbehaving. However, on the Welcome page there appears to be both a reflection and drop shadow on the three image and they look fine. The difference is that those three are links. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Opera just doesn't support the java script create drop shadows. As for IE you'll have to really dummy down the site to get it to work with IE. Roddy has a number of posts and a site that gives many tips on making a site more compatible with IE.

Problems with Safari 6.0.1 on OS 10.7.5
I'm having massive freezing problems with Safari 6.0.1 freezing up on me in the last 10 days or so. I'm running OS 10.7.5 on 27" iMac Intel circa mid 2011. Any help appreciated.
Okay. At the beginning of this discussion I was on 6.0.1. However, I responded to an update since then and since I didn't realize 6.0.2 wasn't compatible with Lion I responded and updated.
Now, with your message, a clean 6.0.1 installation sounds like a great idea. However, I've downloaded it from your link and when I install just from the install program, I still have an "About Safari" showing 6.0.2. I then tried setting up a separate Safari folder in the Applications folder and installed into that. I only got some Safari-associated folders and items there but no new Safari app icon... and the Safari 6.0.2 icon (which I hadn't gotten rid of since I don't want to lose my bookmarks, etc... want to transfer those once the 6.0.1 is there) is still there.
All the hanging-up problems are still happening, btw... and probably even worse. Right now I'm using Camino, a good browser but Safari has features I'd like to get back to... got Firefox, too, and like it, but I've got it set up for other family members to use and Safari here for me.
Any help on how to get 6.0.1 installed again without losing bookmarks greatly appreciated. -
I updated the ITunes on the computer and that went ok, but when i went to go and update the IPhone 4 it went to restore it to the factory settings and then something happened where it wouldn't let it update and now the phone is stuck in Limbo world with the apple symbol showing and a status bar, but nothing else. also the phone is not showing up as being plugged in while in this limbo faze.
Yes.

We are having a lot of problems with pages loading slowly or not at all. We get this message all the time...server not found...even on pages that have just recently been visited. We have this problem with Safari, Firefox, and Camino. I don't have Internet Explorer installed, but why should I just keep adding new browsers. My ISP assures me that the connection is fine. I have emptied caches, cookies, whatever I can find to empty. Did I empty too much? We use a Netgear router and a company called Digitron. Any suggestions?

Perhaps the easiest way to sort this out is to set up a separate Network Location for your connection:
-Location - set up a personal location by clicking on the drop down menu and selecting "add a location". Use a name familiar to you. Once established, select "apply".
-Next, click on the "Show" drop down menu and select Network Port Configurations. Only Airport ought to be checked. Move it to the top of the list (you can drag it). Select "apply".
-Back to the "Show" menu, select "Airport". Click on the TCP panel. There, enter 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1 (separate lines) in the DNS servers box and select "apply". Also, you can always call your Internet Provider to find out if they have specific codes.
Creating a personal location, plus adding the DNS codes seems to speed things up. Otherwise, the "automatic" function has a tendency to "search" for available locations, hence creating the lag you are seeing.
Lastly, in the Finder, go to your Applications>Utilities folder and select "Terminal". Once the screen is open copy/paste lookupd -flushcache and press return. This clears out the DNS cache. Once done, quit Terminal.
If the above doesn't help, I suspect the Router is the problem. Perhaps you need to upgrade its firmware. Check at the Netgear site>Support.

Problems with browser loading and finder menus
I have a MacPro Tower using airport to connect to a DSL modem. Recently I am having problems with very slow loading of web pages, often showing "Can't Find Server" errors. The problem is not with my DSL provider, because I have two older Macs in the house using the same DSL line and they are working fine. Video tutorials on Adobe's site are freezing about two minutes in and never load entirely (not a problem on the other Macs). This happens with any browser so not a browser problem. Also when quitting applications on occasion the finder menu continues to show the menu for the application I have just quit and seems reluctant to go back to finder or another application.
Anyone have any ideas?Similar problem here: sometimes ALL browsers (Safari, Camino, Firefox) stuck randomly on certain web pages.
If I force close the browsers, the program remain in Dock (but not in Process Monitor or in Terminal) and the machine refuse to restart (but others programs works as well).
Even if I submit a "sudo reboot" the machine remains in unknow state.
The only way to exit from this situation is to do an hard reset. -
I have two issues that I'm trying to take care of. The first is that there are times when my computer will and won't run applications until I choose to quit them. In other words, they just quit without explanation.
I thought I had found the issue, I ran a popular memory test (forget the name) and I found a problem with one of the sticks. The ones that are currently in there run all the tests fine.
Now with that said, I'm still having trouble. I thought if I tried to reset my pram then I might be able to limit some things down.
But here's my second problem - I CAN'T EVEN RESET MY PRAM NOW!! Heh. Frustrating it is. Honest.
So with that new problem, I tried to restart in open firmware. Not responsive. Went straight to my desktop.
I'm running 10.5 so I don't know if keystrokes have been changed... but any ideas to try to fix this would be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Q

Thanks for getting back with me. I fixed the keyboard issue. It is an Apple keyboard, but it wasn't plugged in to the right location. It actually was plugged into my USB PCI card.
Now with that said, even after resetting everything, Single User going resetting nvram and holding command opton p and r for PRAM reset.. I'm still having multiple hangs.
Typically it seems to occur when the computer wants to access some of its resources that it doesn't use all the time.
Whenever the Mac needs to "think" about something is when it usually seems to crash the applications that's up. Sometimes this on Youtube, sometimes it's as things are being normally quit. Sometimes there's no warrant. I can pretty much expect it if I leave something running overnight that it will have crashed in the morning. Especially Camino or another browser (Safari, Firefox)
iTunes doesn't seem to cause the problem that much, nor does Mail.
Sorry that I'm throwing up a lot of random things up. I just want throw out there the symptoms. -
PROBLEMS WITH ALL BROWSERS!
I used to use Safari when i first got my Macbook, but i couldn't go to certain sites so i started using Firefox. Recently i have been having problems with it not responding. So i installed Opera, and still having the same problems, i have to force quit BOTH opera and firefox 4/5 times a day because the site stopped responding. It cant be the websites because i go to all different kinds of sites, and this isn't when im watching any kind of video. i really like the way opera is set-up, i just want one browser that works and i can have all bookmarks on one. Tried Netscape, terrible browser, and from what i hear IE isn't available for macs anymore. What browser is left for the mac? This doesn't seem normal, anyone have any advice??
Hi,
Welcome to macbook forum,
If your browser cannot play certain video, maybe you should install flip4mac:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
Also install the plug ins that the browser need:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7
Also repair your permission might help unresponsive application:
Hard disk (finder)> Application > utilities > disk utilities > repair permission.
Also did you give Camino a chance?
Good Luck -

I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?
Thank you in advance,
LeftyThis was one solution from the socket programming forum, have you tried this??
public Thread MyThread extends Thread{
boolean active = true;
public void run(){
ss.setSoTimeout(90);
while (active){
try{
serverSocket = ss.accept();
catch (SocketTimeoutException ste){
// do nothing
// interrupt thread
public void deactivate(){
active = false;
// you gotta sleep for a time longer than the
// accept() timeout to make sure that timeout is finished.
try{
sleep(91);
}catch (InterruptedException ie){
interrupt();
}
