Problem with Caps Lock and Num Lock after 10.5.1

I noticed after updating to 10.5.1 my caps and num lock lights were on, i thought this odd as I did not push the buttons, pushing the buttons to turn the lights off however actually turns the caps and num lock features on.
In short, the light is backwards! when caps is OFF the light is on and when caps is ON the light is OFF!
the same is true for the num lock key/light...???
anyone else notice this problem?

Same exact problem... after updating I noticed that my numbers lock and caps lock were on. Didn't think much of it so I turned them off and then I notice that they are working in reverse. Caps lock on gives me lower case letters and numbers lock on I only get the symbols associated with that key above the number....mmmmm.
Anyone found a fix yet? I have looked in preferences and other places but found no solution.

Possible liquid damage.
Immediately disconnect all peripherals, power cord & remove the battery. Turn the computer over with the lid partly open and the hinge facing upward to let the liquid drain. Do not flop it over and lay it flat - you want to separate it from the moisture. Place paper or cloth towels under the machine to sop up the mess.
After the computer disgorges whatever you spilled on it, don't turn it on for 72 hours or longer. You want to computer to dry out completely before turning it on again.
Some users here swear by hairdryers. Blow drying the innards may bake whatever was in the liquid onto delicate computer components. Better to let the computer air dry.
Use plain tepid water to clean out the computer. If you spilled iced beverage more than likely this ice fried the hot motherboard.
Sugary, acidic or milky drinks will almost always cause problems later on as the residue starts slowly corroding the computer innards.
Swab down any sticky parts with distilled water or denatured alcohol.
If none of the above works, you will need to take the computer to a repair shop. Apple Care does not cover liquid or food damage. Believe me, they can tell. So the old "my computer stopped working" line is not going to work.

MacBook starts with caps lock and num lock ON

From time to time after upgrading to Leopard, my caps lock and num lock lamps are lit after startup. However, all other keys work normally, caps lock and num lock are not actually turned on. Is there a way to avoid this misbehaviour?

Do computers have child diseases? My computer's immune system now seems to have taken care of the caps lock/num lock problem. I haven't had any inverted startups in weeks now. Very strange!
In my experience, the treatment is to ignore the fact caps lock/num lock is lit, and to restart the computer. If you need to log in to restart, do it as if startup was normal, since caps lock/num lock is not actually turned on.
And hope for the natural healing.
Does anyone have different experiences?

hi- so when the caps lock and num lock are lit my keys type lower case. when the caps is not lit and the num is lit my keys type upper case. when the caps and the num are not lit just the num keys work meaning j=1 k=2 etc... any ideas how to get back to normal? thanks patch

DV4 flashing caps lock and num lock lights

My laptop, an HP Pavilion DV4-2040US, has stopped booting up recently. The day before this problem come about I was using the laptop perfectly fine. I then went one day without using. When I turn on the laptop it booted up but nothing showed up on the screen. Then the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK lights started to blink on and off.
I did some researching about the blinking lights and what they mean but I don't think mine is listed on there. It says the pattern will repeat a couple of times then shut off, but mine doesn't. The pattern is the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK both blink once every 3 seconds (about) and keeps blinking every 3 seconds forever. The only time they stop blinking is when I shut I down by holding the power button on the laptop.
I've tried disconnecting everything and holding for 15 seconds and even tried holding it for 30 seconds and that still didn't fix the problem. I called HP support and the guy who I talked to told me it sounded like a motherboard issue, but he wasn't sure exactly and told me to ask here for help.
If it matters, I can hear the fan turn on for about 2 seconds then stop. Also all the touch sensitive buttons light up too$

Please, someone, anyone help me. I am having this exact same problem as we speak It happened after i put the laptop to sleep overnight. The LEDs for capslock and numlock blink consistently but slowly-approximatelt 2-3 seconds. When started up, i hear the fan come on for maybe a second or two and then comes off.I've tried all the mentioned solutions - i removed the battery for a while and put it back in-i tried the four arrows-i tried started up with AC adapted but without battery - and still no fix. What i am worried about is the documents and files on the laptop. Are they recoverable? Please help me on this someone. Please. Thank You.

Updating caps lock and num lock status

I need to keep track of the status of the caps lock and num lock keys in a status bar of my frame.
I get the current status with a code like this

capsLockState = toolkit.getLockingKeyState(KeyEvent.VK_CAPS_LOCK);

where fireChangeEvent() updates a label in the status bar. The code is invoked when any of the caps lock and num lock keys are pressed (while the window has the focus) and when the window is activated. This code works while the window has the focus (i.e. the status of the keys if correctly tracked). It does not work correctly when the window is activated.
Specifically the following scenario fails:
- The window has focus and the state of the keys if correctly reported by the code above (say caps lock up, num lock
up);
- The window loses focus, i.e., another (non java) window gains the focus;
- The user presses any of the two keys (say the caps lock key);
- The window regains focus.
When the latter event happens the code above is invoked (as a consequence of the window being activated) but it continues to report the status of the keys at the time the focus was lost by the window (caps lock up, num lock up).
It seems that the toolkit does not automatically updates its internal status if a key is pressed when the java window does not have the focus. If I press the caps lock key (so that it returns to the up state) after the window has regained focus the status is updated and the new state is correctly reported. I need to manually realign the status by pressing the keys to have them correctly reported by the toolkit.
Some ideas on how to have correct key status even after the window looses the focus?

the only is though it is not sensing the keyStrokes but if window looses focus because of another window gains focus it changes the values when it get focus next by ne means.
Provide a short executable code might be the problem lies there.

Satellite C55-A and Ubuntu - Caps Lock and Num Lock key leds always off

I use Ubuntu Desktop 14.04 and Mate Desktop and LightDM. My Toshiba Laptop is Satellite C55-A-1JH (PSCG6E) model.
Cap Lock and Num Lock is working , but their leds always is off.
I don't find any Linux driver in Toshiba support web site.How I solve this problem?

Hi. Are you sure this is a Linux-issue? Please try this: reboot the unit and press F12 several times when the Toshiba logo is shown. When the boot menu is shown try Caps and Num lock again.

When backlight is off Caps Lock and Num Lock keys flicker slightly

I recently noticed that on my very new MacBook when I leave the backlight to turn off, the caps lock and num lock lights flicker green. This is a very low level of light coming from it. Is anyone else having this problem and is it very serious?

I doubt it means anything. You might consider leaving it like that for a while and then checking to see if your battery ran down like the computer was awake. Or you could close the lid. At least that way you don't have to see the flicker.
If you said the lights flicker at full intensity, that might mean a loose connection or a bad resistor on a chip, etc.

OSD for the Caps Lock and Num Lock is not appearing.

Hi all,
I recently discovered that the Caps Lock and Num Lock OSD has stopped appearing when I activate/disactivate these functions. The functions still work, just that the notifications do not pop up.
All the rest of the OSD notifications still DO work, like volume, ThinkLight, brightness, etc.
I've checked the on-screen display settings in Control Panel and found that it set to 'enable' with fadeout at 3 seconds.
I've turned it off and on to 'reset' it but to no avail.
Help, please.

They're not supposed to show up on T400's because the indicators exist as physical indicators on the lower bezel.

OSD indication for caps lock and num lock on Thinkpad Edge 540

Hello !You may know that the Thinkpad Edge E series have a keyboard lacking the caps lock and num lock leds.On Windows, one can have an OSD display (temporary or permanent) for these two indications.I still need to find something equivalent on Linux.So I ask : Is there a way to have such OSD on Linux ? Hard reboot with binking caps lock and num lock lights DELL XPS M1530

After returning from work I saw my DELL XPS M1530 had hung and there was blinking CAPS and NUM lock indicators, I had to hard reboot.
This has happened with me some times.
How can I investigate? Is there some log which i can see after hard reboot?
I am on kdemod 4.1.3 with nvidia stable driver

I used to have that problem on my laptop also. It seems to plague a good number of XPS 1530 owners. From what I can tell the problem seems to be either graphics card drivers or wireless card drivers. Do you happen to have the intel 4965agn card? If not, what hardware do you use for wireless and graphics?

Pavilion DV5 1111ea CAPS lock and NUM lock continuously blinking

I recently upgraded my dv5 pavilion 1111ea to windows 8.1
Due to an issue with the OS, it doesn't resume from Hibernation, as described here.
I held down the power button until the laptop swithched off.
Once I tried to put it on again, it couldn't get to the BIOS screen, the CAPS lock AND NUM/SCROLL lock LEDs were blinking continuously, once every 3 seconds.
No disk activity at all.
I checked HP Notebook PCs - Blank Screen LED Error Codes but non corresponded to continuous blinking.
I have a spare CPU which I removed from a discarded dv5, the CPU is exactly the same model with mine (AMD Turion x2 RM-72).
I've troubleshooted by removing both RAMs and testing each individually in different ports, yet no solution.
I'm suspecting the CPU because about a year after purchasing the PC, it began to overheat and hibernate automatically to prevent the CPU from burning. I had to underclock the CPU so, for over three and half year now, I've been running at 50% CPU speed. In total the laptop is 4.5 years old already.
Please I need suggestions as to what to do. I don't have the required tools to replace the cpu myself.

I took my PC to a repairer and he claimed to have replaced the CPU with an AMD Sempron from his collection of scrap laptop CPUs.
After about 3 months, the same problem has recurred.
I opened it up, only to find my former CPU model inside!
Whether the repairer had a spare Turion, or he only performed a trick to make my original CPU to work (and billed me for a replacement), I can't say for sure.
Now I've purchased another CPU from eBay.
Fixed it and...... got dissapointed again.
Still blinking the CPU error code.
From other posts I've come across here, I think HP/AMD combo is to blame for all these.

Windows 10 Caps Lock and Num Lock dosen`t work

I've developed registry settings that both enable the "Filter Keys" feature in the Ease of Access center and use other values for which there are not UI fields to set repeat values to slow things down, but use values a little different
than those provided by the UI.
With this registry file the start of auto-repeat is slowed to 440 milliseconds, and the keys repeat at a reasonable rate of something around 30 per second.

MacBook Keyboard Caps Lock and Num Lock are working in reverse!!!

Ok, this sounds very strange...my keyboard on my MacBook only works when both the num lock and caps lock keys are depressed (so the green lights are illuminated). if the num lock is off then the keyboard does not work. if num lock is on and caps lock is off then the keys only type in ALL CAPS. if both num lock and caps lock are on (green lights) then the keyboard behaves as it should--except it's supposed to be that the num lock and caps lock keys should be off! I've checked system prefs for keyboard and mouse and for universal access, i've reset to defaults, i've restarted the machine...NOTHING works!
Has anyone ever seen this before? Any clue what to do?

hi my lenovo t60 1953d9u capslock and numlock wont show up on the
OSD.
it shows up on my dad's t61 7665d61
and my uncles thinkpad edge AMD on the edge it shows a graphical capslock and on the t61 it says capslockn/capslock ff

It shows up on my T61 - which has physical indicators on the screen bevel - there's a small text-block coming up over the clock in the lower right corner, saying "Caps Lock on/off" and "Num Lock on/off" and "Scroll Lock on/off"
So the physical indicators got nothing to do with it.
Running Vista Pro 64 with an odd assortment of Lenovo-apps running/installed (not entirely sure which one is responsible for this behavior, unfortunately, since I've reinstalled and removed several on and off to see which ones I really need and which are useless).
