Problem with ChemDraw structures when converting word doc to pdf

I am trying to convert a word document with ChemDraw structures in it to a pdf.  When it converts, I doesn't hold the chemical structures together.  Is there a quick solution?

I realize that many word processors have an option to turn off the printer metric use. I finally found it in OFFICE 2007 and it is indeed off. It is not off in OFFICE 2003. Though it is available to folks, it is far from an obvious option in WORD. In the word processor I use it is NOT an option and there is actually a warning in the help about the printer metrics. The fact that there may be a switch in a package is not a given and the information I provide is not incorrect, though adding a comment about a switch option is reasonable.
Yes it's on in prior versions that wasn't ny uncertainity. I wasn't positive it was off in Office 2007. Why do you make a strawman argument over something that isn't the point of contention ? <sigh>
You were incorrect. Printer Metrics is the only answer because it's a global switch. You're not helping by telling people to use a solution that's not permanent. It's a clumsy hack.

  • Problem with image location when converting word document to pdf

    Hello all,
I am new to all this and this question may be already answered, but when I try to convert a word (2003-2007) document containing images (inserted photos) into a pdf document using Adober Reader 8, the images are moved from their original location and the size and ratio are changed.  Is there either a process for preserving the images as they are in the word doucment or a way to fix the problem?  Thanks for any help you can give.
    Regards,
    Rose

Really not sure what you are trying to do since you can not import images into Reader. Since Reader can not create PDFs, we are at a loss of your problem. If you mean Acrobat, then tell us exactly the steps you are using to create the and what versions of both programs Like AA8.1., WORD 2003 (possibly release also) or WORD 2007. The different versions of WORD also also interact with Acrobat differently.

  • When converting word doc to pdf with Acrobat words getting cut off?

    Hi all,
As you can see from this example:
When converting from word document the words on the pages in the final PDF are getting cut off on the edge of the page?
I've adjusted the margins in page layout in MS Word to Normal, Moderate & Wide etc, etc
Never ever had this problem before...does anybody have any idea why or what I could do?
    Thanks in advance.

As a quick check, set the printer to the Adobe PDF printer in WORD and then check for the proper operation. Also be sure the paper dimensions and orientation of your document and the printer properties match up (I have had some problems with the orientation when I have auto-rotate on). You may have to play some to get something to work. I have done that before and settled on a process that works for me, but I can't claim it all makes perfect sense. To many things are going on in some sense.

  • When converting word doc to pdf, my images with text only show the background color of the text box.

I have a word doc that I am trying to conver to pdf.  I have jpegs with text boxes on top of them on one page.  It looks great on the screen but after I convert to pdf, the text boxes only have half the text, the first half of the text box is just white - the background color.  If I take the background color out of the text box, the text converts over fine but I need the background color.
I have tried many things here on the print settings, standard, high quality print, unchecking the compression on the images.  Any help?

  • Font changes when converting Word doc to PDF

I have Acrobat 9 and MS Office 2007. When I convert to PDF a Word doc with Heading 1 set to Arial Bold, the Heading 1s does not convert correctly. The font style, size, and bold all change. If I change the Heading 1s to just Arial the Heading 1s convert to PDF just fine. Any else run into this?

Yes.  I found it will work okay if you select a regular font and then select bold.  Don't select a BOLD FONT type.

  • When converting Word Doc to PDF Acrobat converts all words and tables but will not convert graphs

This is very confusing; what actually coverted the document - Word, Acrobat, or CreatePDF (now renamed to "Adobe PDF Pack") ?
    Either way it's not an Adobe Reader problem;
if Word: post in the Microsoft Word forum
if Acrobat: post in the Adobe Acrobat forum
if ExportPDF: post in the ExportPDF forum

  • How to retain the hyperlinks when converting Word doc to PDF?

For adobe acrobat 9 pro, I can't figure out how to keep the hyperlinks working. If I create pdf from word doc by save as, it can't embed fonts, but links work. If I use "print" in word, it embeds fonts, but some hyperlinks didn't work. What to do to keep fonts embedded and links working? It drove me crazy! HELP!!!

Depends on the version of WORD. With OFFICE 2007, go to the Adobe menu and select Create PDF (this is PDF Maker). That will save the links. A similar process is needed for OFFICE 2003. With OFFICE 2010, you will have to upgrade to AA X or add them in Acrobat manually.

  • How do I change the pixel size when converting Word doc to .pdf?

When converting a Word Document to .pdf the file size is too large. How do I reduce the pixel size?

Typically a Word file's content is text which has not image association.
For whatever images might be in the Word file you'd want to adjust image resolution in an image editor prior to bringing the image into the Word file from which the PDF is made.
    Be well...

  • Problems with some photos when converting Publisher files to PDF using Acrobat 9

I tried to make a pdf of a publisher document that has a number of photographs. Two of the photographs appear grey with streaks -looks like some of the colours are not converting properly. The same document works fine with Acrobat 8 but not with version 9. Anybody have this experience?

Graffit's suggestion did not work for me.
I work for the Ontario government, and we are still using Office 2003. I am not sure what version of 9 we are using as we get bulk licences to use the program. I only got the program in August 2010. I used the default settings in the program.
I try to open the publisher document in Adobe. I have also tried opening the publisher document, then converting it to the PDF. Both have two of the photos that don't convert properly. The other photos are fine.
The two photos in question were given to us by the Communications department. I don't have the originals. The photos were copied from other document. I don't know what the format of the orginal photos were. The person in Communications has not responded to my request yet.

  • Trouble with margins when converting Word doc to PDF

When I convert a word document to a PDF (using Print >> Save as PDF), the resulting PDF (in Preview) cuts off my page numbers which are centered at a half-inch from the bottom. They have to stay there. I've tried changing the non-printable area to "User Defined" at 0 but that didn't work. Any help would be much appreciated!

How to convert word doc into pdf - which product of adobe i need to use- what upgrades - am a newbie -  simple answers please - Thanks in advance.

@Pipeline2007 - which version of Microsoft Office have you got? Older versions of Acrobat aren't compatible with the latest versions of Office, see this link for info:

  • Preserving HTML links when converting Word docs

I created a document in MS Word for Mac 2011 (ver 14.5.2)
When I used Adobe Pro 11 to convert the document into pdf format, all the HTML links are lost.
I have tried converting from MS Word, opening the word version with Adobe Pro, printing from MS Word to pdf.  Nothing works. Even opened the MS Word document using Apple's Pages software, re-formatted and then converted to pdf.  Still no live links.
Best work around so far is to convert and then use the edit feature in Adobe Pro to re-insert the HTML links as invisible rectangles on top of the still-blue-and- underlined text.  So to the user it looks like the html links are still live, but what a pain for editor.
I have seen this issue raised in other posts, but none of the answers seem to work. And the work around described above is clearly less than ideal.
Very curious, as reading other posts, the issue apparently does not arise when the word doc converted from a Wintel computer.  But I can't imagine Adobe writes software one way for Intel and another for Mac.

Imagine it. this has been 15 year fued between Microsoft and Adobe.  Adobe Claims that Mac office doesn't hav ethe proper hooks for URLs. Microsoft says the fault is with adobe.
Since a Word Created file will work when opened in the windows version  and saved as a PDF, the links work just fine. Just opening and not saving, but converted to Pdf does nothing to the actual Word File.
They had it fixed last year  in Acrobat X if your dropped the file on to Acroabt directly. But broke it again with the upgrade to XI.
IF you have iWork and Open the word file in Pages then exported as a Word.docx file then create The PDF the links will become active.  Also if you Open in OpenOffice and export as docx file the resulting PDF when open in Word and PDF is Created the links will become active.
If you have neither you will have to open the PDF and add the links. Note the Links will be hot (active) but the links will not turn Blue and  be Underlined
Mac Office2011 is a Conversion of Office2010/2007 code.  So there should be no pproblem.
Also Don't use the Save As . . .  PDF Method. Instead go to Print Menu  click on PDF wait for context menu > the choos Adobe Quality PDF or Adobe PDF (uses Adobe's PDF engine).
wait for next screen that shows qualtity leave as sent unles you need specific job options. click okay then next screen File name. Rename as necessary the browser to desired to location then click save.  Or you can drop the saved Word document (with Word quit.) on to Acrobat and after a minute or so the PDF will be created. (Using this method in AcrobatX would actully show URL s or Mailtos as active - They broke this in Acrobat XI PDF still can be created but hot links no longer work).
Well it seems it does work on occasion  see: http://www.screencast.com/t/cib2kcYG

  • Problems with Capture Date when converting from PSE9

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem I'm having when converting my PSE9 catalog to LR3.4. Specifically, about 20% of my images (abouit 2,500 out of 12,000) didn't import with capture dates. I can clearly see the correct capture dates in PSE9 Organizer, but when I view the same imported images in LR3.4, there is no date. This occurs with dates that I've modified in PSE9 as well as dates straight out of the camera.
This is a major problem for me because I'm used to organizing my photos in PSE9 using capture dates. On a related note, PSE9 allows you to set the capture date to a known year and unknown month, day, and time, but when imported into LR3, these dates are converted to Jan 01 of the known year. Sorry, but Jan 01 is not the same as unknown. Is there a way to correctly display unknown portions of a capture date in LR3 similar to the way it's displayed in PSE9?
Sorry if this has been discussed before.

How did you convert your catalog?  Did you use File > Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog, or did you use File > Import Photos?  You should use the former; the latter has many problems, among which PSE doesn't always correctly write medata (e.g. capture dates) into files. If you used File > Upgrade Photoshop Elements Catalog, post an image here and we can take a look at its metadata to troubleshoot.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
On a related note, PSE9 allows you to set the capture date to a known year and unknown month, day, and time, but when imported into LR3, these dates are converted to Jan 01 of the known year.
Even though Adobe's XMP metadata standard allows for unknown month, day, or time, most programs including LR don't support it -- PSE is the only program I know of that does (and it has problems).  I use the conveniton of 1/1 12:00:00 to represent unknown values.
See this FAQ for other issues with converting PSE catalogs to LR:
