Problem with COM port opening

I made an application using COM port to dialog with a microcontroleur and i have some troubles with the opening of the port. i developed it under window XP pro and labview 6.1 and i have no problem when i launch my application on an XP PC having labview installed or on a window 98 PC without labview (just the runtime engine). But when i launch it on an XP pc with only the runtime engine, it seems to launch correctly but in fact, there is a problem with the COM port opening. The menu allowing to chose the port number is inactive and has no effect, like if the software wouldn't recognize the material port on the PC. And consequently, nothing happens when the dialog should start.
Thank tou for your precious help

Is the VISA run-time engine installed? I don't understand why it would work on the win98 machine unless you have an older installation of it there.

  • Problem with Com port

Hi guys. I have written a driver to communicate with a COM port (FTDI serial adapter).  On the pc from which I'm writing now (windows XP) it works properly, but when I try to use the same driver on another pc (win 7) labview see the port but isn't able to comunicate . I tried also to use a software like Tera Term to see if the com works and trying the echo it works good...so I don't understand where the problem is on this w7 pc...
should I install some labview drivers on the w7 pc? I have already installed
    NI run time installer
    NI max
    NI Visa run time

NI Serial won't help (its for NI serial cards not 3rd party USB-Serial bridges)
LabVIEW sees the VCP in Win7 but does not communicate: Works on XP: "Something" happens with Echo on from teraterm.
    I'l guess either:
Wrong serial cable or settings and you are fooling yourself with the tereterm app and are seeing the echo only.  With Echo on any character sent should be doubled.
Outdated FTDI Driver that does not support Win7.

Hi I have problem with itunes, i opened by mistake song in itunes and after my itunes were like deleted ? Can you help me please ?

For general library squiffiness following an upgrade the easiest thing is to restore your last backup, but I guess if it were that simple you wouldn't be here.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps youshouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • If you're having problems with USB ports, read on...

i'm reading that alot of people on here are having problems with their front (or top) usb on their cases not working with their k7n2 boards.  i have come across the correct solution to this problem in one of the posts (after having solved the problem on my own), however noone has posted the solution by itself on this forum so everyone can easily see it.
The trick is to make sure that pin 10 (at least on a K7n2 delta-L), the pin labeled USBOC (USB Open Connection), is wired to NOTHING.  If the connector to your front usb ports is fused into one giant connector and it HAS a wire that will connect to this pin (labeled GND2 or Shield or something), CUT THAT WIRE.  Pin 10 on JUSB2 (at least on a K7n2 delta-L) must be OPEN.  If this pin IS connected to something (even if it is only GND), the motherboard will think something is connected to this usb port and you will get many unknown devices listed in your windows device manager and the rest of your usb ports may or may not work.
As a general rule of thumb, if a pin on a motherboard is labeled OC for "Open Connection" and you wire something to it, you're asking for trouble.
If you cannot understand this you should not be attempting to wire a motherboard in the first place.
Here is a picture to go along with this discussion.  If you cannot see this picture, I am sorry for it has probably been removed from the place I posted it online as I cannot attach pictures physically to this post.  If someone here has a way to permanently host this picture and post it to this thread permanently, that would be wonderful.
In summary: all usb ports/headers have only four pins associated with it (VCC, USB+, USB-, GND).  If the connector (whether it's one big connector or individual sockets) to your front/top usb port has 5 sockets, don't connect the 5th socket to anything.  That goes for any case/motherboard combination.  This is what i'm talking about above.  I have no idea why motherboard and case manufacturers have a 5th pin involved in any way on either the pin or socket side.  It is not used for usb.
EDIT:  I just noticed this has already been discussed in the trouble shooting guide in the above sticky post.  oh well, now we have a pretty picture to go along with it (i hope).

    :-D)Hello guys,
as promised I come back here to give the results of my tests... and I have to say that you saved my day (even if I had to open back 60 secured cases).
So the solution was the right one, when I unplugged the "ground" end of the front USB connector cable from the USBOC pin, those connectors finally worked as expected with USB 2.0 compliant devices.
So thank you really much for this very usefull information !
And even if maybe it's not only MSI's fault, I still believe that more information on those connectors in the user's manual would be really usefull (who knows what USBOC means except a few people and who could imagine that pluggin on it a "ground" cable would make it unserviceable ??). And who ever saw a user's manual bundled with a case ?? it's pretty unusual
Hope that someone at MSI will read that and take it into consideration, not for me (because now I'm aware) but for the thousands other consumers that will feel a little bit "annoyed" with that issue. I don't think that adding one line about it in user's manuals would be so much expensive
But I'm quite lucky myself... being able to understand and write english (even if I still have some progress to do  ) gave me the possibility to find the solution... but a lot of my french fellows can't do that... and there's no french forum here... How can they do ? They rely on user's manual
    Best regards,
    Nicolas

Sorry, that didn't work.  I get no drop down menu from the Hot Sync Manager for the Serial Port.  What comes up often is:  "The selected port, COM1, is not available at this time.  Hot Sync Manager will open the port when it becomes available."
Could it be the Norton Antivirus Firewall that is preventing the Hot Sync Manager to open the Serial Port?  Just a thought.  Thanks for your help.

  • I/O error with COM port

I have a RS485 line going into COM5 of my PC. Using HyperTerminal, I can talk to my serial device. However, there are problems with LabVIEW VISA functions. I can open the connection. I/O errors were given when I try to read or write. Is this because LabVIEW does not support RS485? What can cause the I/O error? Thanks.

    Some tips,
First off, computer com ports are only RS-232. Make sure you are using the RS-232 port on the
ADAM-4570. Do you have to configure this port as RS-232 with Advantech software? If the ADAM is
configured as RS-485, you won't be able to talk to it without an RS-232 to RS-485 converter. Stick
    with RS-232.
Secondly, make sure you have shut down all other software that is using COM5. Only one application
can use the port at a time and sometimes other applications don't release the port properly.
If HyperTerminal can talk to the ADAM, then everything is configured properly for a LabVIEW app. Be
sure to put a carriage return at the end of the command to the ADAM. HyperTerm does this
automatically, LabVIEW doesn't. Start with the basi
c commands you used with HyperTerminal.

  • Problems with USB port and song transferring;

Hi! I just got an iPod and I am having problems with it. My computer doesn't have a Hi-Speed USB port, even if it's 9 months old. Some of my friends don't have it either but they still are able to transfer songs onto their iPod. For mine, it keeps saying "Do Not Disconnect." I waited for 5 hours last time I got it and it still isn't working.
I also updated my iPod software today and the iPod icon isn't appearing on the bar to the left in iTunes. I'd really appreciate any help on this! As well as if I really need to do something about the ports or if it could function like this normally.

  • Problems with com.apple.IconServicesAgent taking up lots of memory

In efforts to clean up my Mac (Mavericks 10.9.4 on a 2008 iMac with 4GB memory, 278 BG free), I starting noticing a new process called com.apple.IconServicesAgent. It was the second largest hog of memory on my computer behind kernel_task. Kernel_task was taking up about 460MB (too much?) and this com.apple.IconServicesAgent was taking up 163MB.  Since I've only got 4GB memory, I wanted to curb this.
In Activity Monitor, I could easily click to Force Quit that process and suffered no ill effects. It would, however, within a few minutes, reappear at around 12-14MB. Over time, even with the computer idle, it would grow back to around 160MB. It doesn't seem to get much bigger than that, but it seems fruitless to delete this ever so often to get memory relief.
Since you can stop this process and force quit it with no side effects, is this just some superfluous file that Apple has put in to monitor something that doesn't need monitoring?  I can't seem to find anyone that knows anything about this process.
Perhaps one of you have had this same issue? There seem to have been a few questions, but none of them that I saw were definitive.  I clicked on a couple and they wouldn't open for one reason or another.
Thank you for your help, in advance.  Just trying to cut down on memory, since after boot I have about 2.80-3.2 GB consumed out of my 4.0 GB.

Check this site. Works miracles on this problem.

  • Help with firewall port opening

I'm a newbie at this, so please be patient. And my Time Capsule is less than a week old, so I'm still in the learning stages.
I purchased an iPod Touch and one of the programs from the App Store--Pocketpedia--requires certain ports to be open in order to sync with my Mac pedia programs.
I went into the Time Capsule>Advanced settings to try to open the appropriate 2 ports (one for the Powerbook and one for the Touch). I'm obviously doing something wrong. That wouldn't be heard since all of the terminology is foreign to me. I know that I need to open the two TCP ports.
I clicked on the + to add a new service/port. I wasn't sure if I needed the numbers in Public TCP ports or private, so entered them in both with the numbers separated by commas.
I thought that this would be "personal file sharing" so I tried to choose that under "Service". However, when I did that it said "A pulic TCP port number conflicts with a file sharing port on the base station. Disable file sharing or choose a different port number." Actually, once I choose "personal file sharing", it autofills in port 548 into the two TCP numbers. That's one that's opened within System Preferences. So it actually won't let me change that number at all. When I try to, it services menu defaults back to "choose a service".
Needless to say, I'm very confused. I did go ahead and create a service with the two port #'s and without designating it a specific "service", but that doesn't seem to fix my problem with allowing the Touch to sync with my Powerbook.
Any help would be much appreciated.

With port mapping (forwarding) you "open" ports on the router's firewall in order to allow Internet traffic to reach a host device on your local area network (LAN). In this case your iPod Touch and PowerBook. However, you can only map the same port(s) to only one device. For example, you cannot map port 548 to both the Touch AND the PowerBook, only one or the other.
The typical port mapping setup requires two basic steps:
    1. Assign either a static IP address or reserve a DHCP-assigned IP address to the host device.
    2. Map the appropriate port(s) on the router to this host device.
The following is a more detailed list of steps ...
To setup port mapping on the Time Capsule (TC), either connect to the TC's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the TC, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
    Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
    o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
    o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
    o Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
    o Click "Continue"

  • Headphone connection sporadic and must twist to get good connection; is there connection problems with connection port?

More times than not the headphone i purchased from Apple Store (Nike) and others do not get good connection in port of the nano so cannot play; if i twist it in the port it might hit and get sound but then can loose it with movement and/or get static; any history/problems with ports allowing good connections with headphones; it is surely fully pushed in; thanks

Thanks for the quick reply.  The use of a heat gun to loosen the adhesive complicates matters, but your point about the 4G's unsoldered jack brings it back into the realm of a possible self-fix.  I've read the notes by other users--some were successful with pipe cleaners or pressurized spray cans or both.  I'll try that first before going for disassembly.
The first repair place that comes up when I Google "iPod repair" prominently features headphone jacks for the iPod Touch, suggesting it's a pretty popular item.  Maybe the placement of the port, or even its angle, is a receptacle asking for trouble.  If I get it to work again, I'm going to look for a leather, or folio, type of covering that doesn't leave that hole exposed.

  • Problem with desaturation when opened in ACR

When I open a .jpg image as camera raw (v. 6.2.0.29), then immediately save that image as a .jpg (quality 12) from CS5 (v. 12.0.1x32) without any edits (but as a different file name), the newly saved .jpg is significantly desaturated in color when compared with the original.  This does not occur if I open the .jpg without going through ACR and then immediately save (as a new file name) without any edits.
In puzzling over this, I've also noticed that when I open a .jpg in CS5 as a camera raw, then immediately open the same .jpg without going through camera raw and compare them side-by-side, there are significant differences between the two histograms.
What in the world am I doing wrong?  Since it only happens when I open a .jpg as camera raw, and not in CS5 apart from ACR, I'm guessing that it has to be something in ACR.  However, I have not yet been able to find a problem with the settings in ACR, and no changes I have made in ACR seem to affect the outcome.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, or where I might go looking?
    Thanks in advance...

Check the ACR output colorspace; it's identified in the link at center bottom.  If it's ProPhoto then your jpegs will look very unsaturated when viewed in a non-color managed application, such as Internet Explorer.  Click on the link to change to sRGB for general email and web output.
