Problem with cross reference

Hi,
This is my first post.
I was getting behind on a particular project so my boss asked me to commission a design agency to complete work being done on some prospectuses I started designing.
The agency did their bit and sent the Indesign files back to me but the cross references I create do not work properly. The cross referenced page numbers just wont show.
I have tried copying the text frames to new documents and the cross references work. It's as if someone turned off a switch in that particular document.
There are 13 individual documents in all, each with a minimum of 20 pages, which I intend putting together using the Book panel - so its important the cross references work.
Please see the last lines on pages 2 and 3 of the attached document. the 'please see pageXX' is what I mean. these are pages from the rogue document.
Any help/suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
please download the sample indesign file using this dropbox link

I don't know exactly what is causing the problem, but I can definitely see it in Story Editor.
In the screen cap below, the story editor windows on the top row are your file, and the bottom row are a new file with your text pasted in and new cross-ref added. Note the differnce in the tags:
I cant find any casue for the difference, and I don't know what the defective tag is all about. I thought perhaps it was related to a third-party x-ref plugin, but I don't see any sign of that, either. I'm stumped, and the pragmatist in my says copy and paste and move on for now, but save a copy for further exploratin when you have time.
And ask the other agency to tell you what they did and if they use any third party plugins.

  • Crashing with cross-references

    We are still crashing when trying to work with cross-references. Running CC 9.2.1. Is another update coming to fix this?

    We are having the same problem.  Whenever we open a file that was created using Cross References Pro, in a previous Indesign CS version, InDesign CC crashes immediately.  I have installed all of the recent 2014 updates, and the problem continues to happen.  The Cross References Reader will not install on my system, as I only have InDesign CC now, and it will only install on systems with up through CS6.
    Please find a solution ASAP, as we cannot open our old documents to make any changes or reference the links.

  • Problem with Assign reference document.

    Hi all,
    I defined transaction input parameter type Xml.
    I used Reference Document Loader to load document (structure.xml) below.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <SO_VALIDATION>
        <L4_SO_ID/>
        <L4_SOI_NO/>
        <PPC_STATUS/>
        <PPC_INFO/>
    </SO_VALIDATION>
    I used menu command Assign Reference Document, to assign above document to transaction input.
    I tryed to use this transaction in vs.net application as a web service.
    But there is no xml structure in InputParams in web service.
    I tryed alot but i did not achieve.
    What must i do?
    Thanks.

    cml_bzl,
    I'm using version 12.04 and I have not had any problems with assigning reference documents and using .NET.
    You should not have to do anyting special to get the transaction inputs to show up in .Net. To map the output I do the following:
    1. Create an output transaction variable and assign it's type as XML
    2. Using a XML document block to create and XML document for your output transaction variable
    3. Assign the XML document as the reference for the output transaction variable.
    THis works for me every time. If you change the transaction parameters, make sure you update the web service form the .NET side.

  • Problem with Cross tabs

    I have a problem with cross tab.
    When I do grouping on date according to month and summarize the units I am getting the result as 58
    while I do grouping without the croos tab generally in the details section I get the result to be 64.
    I am not able to understand where is the problem.
    Even when I write a query i get the answer as 64.

    Hi,
    Summarizing with a Cross-tab and creating a summary of a group are one and the same; I mean, the summary results are always the same.
    Could you check the summary operation in the crosstab, could you confirm if it is not count or something else?
    Also, create a summary and place it on the Group Header/Footer. It should be same as the Crosstab results for the that particular group.

  • Trouble with Cross-References

    FM11 / DITA 1.2
    What could cause a particular cross reference to consistently NOT work? I know that's vague. I'll try to give a more specific example:
    Let's say I have a collection of xrefs across several XML files in a DITA map. Some xrefs might even point to the same item (usually a <title> tag with an ID attribute). On output to a book with FM components, particular xrefs just will not work (they output as "unresolved"). I can fix it manually in the FM file, but I'd rather it work correctly in the first place, especially since I deal with translation in to several languages, and if I can't get an xref to just work, I have to fix it many, many times.
    I've tried deleting the xref and starting again; I've tried changing the ID attribute in case there was some kind of conflict...I still have trouble with that particular xref (and this happens with more than one xref). What else can I try?
    Again, I know this is vague. I'd be happy to elaborate on relevant points. I just don't currently have time to write a massive description and I want to get this question out.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ohnehosen...
    Are you up to date on your FM11 patches? It's hard to say what could be causing this problem .. does sound strange.
    While this shouldn't be the problem, you might try linking your xref to the container "topic" element (topic, concept, task, whatever is the immediate parent of the title you're pointing at). While in theory you should be able to xref to a title, that's not really the intent, your cross-ref is referencing a "topic" not the title within the topic. The same goes for a figure or table, you reference the fig or table element not the title within those elements.
    I'd assume that the code in the FM-DITA plugin was designed to work by referencing the container ,it probably wasn't tested the way you're doing it, and there may be some flakiness that would cause this to not always work.
    Give it a try .. let us know how it goes.

  • Can this be done with Cross References?

    My document has 10 figures (photos, e.g.) with corresponding cross references in the text. Due to a series of changes, I now need to delete Figure 5. The old Figure 6 now needs to be Figure 5, the old Figure 7 needs to be Figure 6, etc. And the corresponding text sources need to update as well.
    Is this possible with InDesign's built-in Cross References feature? If not, is there a plug-in out there that could solve my problem?
    Thanks.

    Are you asking how you could set it up in the past so that in the future you could automate the process? If so, yes. I'm doing a book with a slightly similar feature. But it only handles the actual text in the ID document. It doesn't handle changing the names of the photos that have been placed. So if you need to rename the placed PSD files, I can't help you.
    But, if it's text only, here's what I'm doing.
    My figure captions are numbered lists. The format is "Figure #" and then the text. They have been set to run across stories.
    When I x-ref the figure, I have the x-ref set to pick up the number of the paragraph but not the actual text of the paragraph.
    If, in your example, I were to take out figure 5, I would take out the figure photo and caption. This would leave a missing x-ref in the body text. That's fine. I would delete it. Then all the rest of the x-refs would need to be updated.
    Similarly, I could insert an x-ref. I believe the auto number would come from its position on the pages of the text.
    HOWEVER, you would need to have set this up initially. It won't help afterward.
    PS: I hope you're asking this for the future and for many more than just 10 figures.

  • Discover group problem with cross tab report

    Hi, I'm working on a cross tab report in discoverer 4i and I'm having a problem with two of the colums. I'm doing a count on one field but because they are called something different they are being shown as two seperate columns rather than 1.
    I have one called 101 -AVG and another called 101-AVG. My condition pulls every result back that starts with 101 in the table. So because in the table the values are different it breaks the count into totals for 101 -AVG and 101-AVG.
    Is there some way I can group these results together into one field?
    thanks,
    Ian

  • Intermittent problem with cross dissolve and chroma key

    It seems that in 1 out of 10 videos I produce in Final Cut Pro there is a problem with the cross dissolve effect and chroma key. What happens is that during the cross dissolve, clip A fades out with a green tint and clip B fades in with a green tint.
    Today I am working with two videos that I captured using the same work flow on the same day. One project exhibits the tint while the second project does not. If I import the problematic footage into the good project the tint problem follows the footage. In the good footage, the cross dissolve produces a result that does not have a green tint. If I re-capture the "bad" footage the results are the same.
    Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have an idea how to resolve this problem?
    Thank you.
    Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    In my project, both clips are source clips with Chroma, Color Smoothing and Matte Choker applied. A dissolve from non-chroma clip to chroma clip works fine. Only problem is with two chroma clips. In my dissolve, the error appears as red fringing in the area between the two masks.< </div>
    You're using creative shorthand that doesn't help. "Chroma clip" means the clip to which you have applied all of these effects? What masks? Where are you getting the masks?
    To understand what's going on with all them itty bitty pixels in a stack of interactive effects, do me a favor: render out a short piece, say 10 seconds of each of your chromaclips as separate movies over transparency using the Animation codec. Reimport them and put them over a solid colored Dissolve between them using different types of dissolves. Post back and tell us (me) what's going on.
    I still consider this to be a bug -- nesting adds more steps to the workflow than if this bug did not exist. < </div>
    It's not a bug. Your pixels are running down a pathway. It's a question of building the correct pathway and having the correct pixel wranglers with the right kinds of cattle prods.

  • Problem with Type Reference "TYPE' in JCO

    Hi All,
    I am facing a weard situation when i am creating a custom RFC function module. This FM is called by Java program with JCO. But, if i define the FM parameters with Reference type as 'TYPE', the Java application is not able to get the data. But the same time, if i declare the parameters with 'LIKE', it is working successfully.
    Can anybody advise me, why it is behaving differently? Is the problem with JCO which is not able to recognise the 'TYPE' reference or from SAP side?
    And, any solution to use 'TYPE' reference successfully?

    hi Sailesh,
    You are right. SAP doesn't recommend the usage of Like in PROGRAMS/REPORTS - mind it, only REPORTS.
    But when it comes to RFC enabled FMs, JCo Understands only LIKE. what you had observed is true. LIKE creates a WA and JCo looks into a workarea. TYPE can refer to a pool of variables but your JCo can't differentiate them. So, you use LIKE.
    Again, you use LIKE only Remote enabled FMs not in Reports/Programs. so, you may use TYPE as your company remommends in reports but in RFMs, use LIKE.
    Hope this cleared.
    Regards
    Ak.

  • Problem with cross

    hey there,
    i have a problem with a cross for two sequences.
    in a earlier cross the is the cross between the scenes. at my problem here the cross is only in the second part of those scenes.
    there is no possibility to put it between both scenes.
    i´ve looked ...there is no space between the scenes.
    how can i solve this problem ?
    thaks for help.

    It may be that the outgoing clip has no remaining frames after the out point..
    If, for example you want to produce a 12 frame dissolve equally across two clips, both the outgoing and incoming clips must have 6 frames of material available before their out/in points.
    If that is the case, shorten the clips by 6 frames and then place the dissolve.

  • Problem with Cross Dissolve: The video cuts out during the transistion

    I'm encountering a problem with the Cross Dissolve transistion wherein during the period in which the transition should be happening the video instead drops out.  There's plenty of heads and tails available on both clips, but as soon as the timeline hits the start of the transition "from' clip cuts out, revealing the background or black if there's no background underneath and then the "go-to" clip cuts in at the end of the transition.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I've been having this issue and it's driving me crazy.  It's random, that some cross dissolves work, and others don't.  Seems to affect AVCHD footage.  Adobe seems to be aware of the issue.
    The work around that I've seen posted by a forum user "Mitch W" is to apply a GPU accelerated effect to one of the clips in the pair.  The effect can be turned to "0" so as not to alter the video.  The act of doing this, makes premiere see the clip differently, and render the cross dissolve correctly.
    Fast Blur, set to "zero", seems to do the trick, and allows it to work with CUDA acceleration turned on.  I did notice that the work around was broken by changing the playback resolution in the viewer window.  In that situation, I had to apply the GPU effect to the other clip in the pair to make it work again.
    I don't know what will happen if I change my playback resolution again...

  • Problem deleting cross-references: Deleted cross-references do not convert to correct text

    This helpful page states that, "When you delete a cross-reference, the source cross-reference is converted to text."
    I use InDesign to create user's manuals, which are full of cross-referenced page numbers.
    The cross-references are all internal to a single document, they do not link to other documents. Each cross-reference is linked to paragraph text and the cross-reference format is Page Number.
    I find that whenever I delete a cross-reference, the cross-reference does convert to text; however, the text—which in this case is a page number—is wrong.
    For example, this sentence is on page 16:
    "You can measure your heart rate using either the handgrip heart rate monitor or an optional chest heart rate monitor (see page 21 for information about the optional chest heart rate monitor.)"
    Screenshot:
    However, when I delete the cross reference, the sentence now reads:
    "You can measure your heart rate using either the handgrip heart rate monitor or an optional chest heart rate monitor (see page 16 for information about the optional chest heart rate monitor.)"
    Screenshot:
    Now, to my mind, the cross-reference should have converted to the text "21," since that is what the cross-reference said (and it is the correct page number for the optional heart rate monitor text that is being referred to).
    Instead, the cross-reference converted to the text "16," which is the number of the page that the sentence is actually on, but is most definitely not what the cross-reference said and is not the correct page number to boot.
    Do any of you know the reason this happens?
    Is there a way to make the text convert to the correct page number when the cross-reference is deleted?

    Update: The cross references work when I export the book as Print PDF. Sadly this solution does not work in my case, because all my interactive element are disabled when exporting as Print PDF.
