Problem with cvs
i want do download the whole working copy of the project jug-avis
on the url https://jug-avis.dev.java.net/
my username on the site is francis_mwangi_chege and pasword is mypassword
am using netbeans cvs tools.
it gives this format: (:pserver:username@hostname:/repository_path/)
am typing :pserver:[email protected]:/
and in the password field am tying mypassword.
am getting the error that either username,password or repository is wrong
what may be wrong?

Problems with CVS and improvements required
Developing with JDeveloper 9.0.3 preview we have found some bugs and some improvements that would be very useful.
Problems
1) Overlay icons on versioned files dont show the real state of the file as described in the Using Concurrent Versions System (CVS) With JDeveloper section of the Using Support for Team Based Development help manual (this issue was solved with a patch for the 9.0.2 release but it cant be applied for the 9.0.3 preview).
2) When CVS finds revision conflicts on the project file (.jpr) or on the descriptors of BC4J objects and packages, it overwrites (properly) the source file with the <<<<<< and >>>>>> comments to denote the conflict, and the warning for the conflict is signaled in the CVS log; but it would be nice (because it is annoying to check everytime the CVS log especially for a critical message like a conflict) having a message box reporting these critical messages.
3) During the import module function to import the project files into the CVS server, the image files (such as .GIF and .JPG) ought to be automatically added as binary files, or better still, it would be useful a configuration fuction to enumerate the extensions to be added as binary files.
4) After some types of CVS commands the CVS editors and CVS watchers windows becomes suddenly closed.
Required Improvements
1) It would be useful a function showing all the files to be added to source control in a list and in a more general case, the versioning status of all the project files, without having to expand all the nodes of the project tree.
2) Its uncomfortable the current behaviour for the check out/edit on the project file (jpr) that automatically selects all files included within it. It would be useful to explicitly select to operate only on the project file or to include also the files within it; or at least to place the project file at the top of the list.
3) The Edit Files command for the CVS source control ought to support the cvs edit option -c (to check that working files are unedited) and an option to execute an update command before the edit one, to have the most recent revision of that file.
4) The opportunity to treat every type of BC4J object as a single CVS entity, taking all the files required by the single BC4J object grouped together and then checked-in, checked-out, etc. in a simple one-click operation.1) Overlay icons [cut] Has the problem returned in 9.0.3 and if so can you give me details of your cvs client version i.e CVSNT 1.0.11.1.3 etc.. It would be really helpful in tracking this down. The CVS version in use is (from the cvs --version command output): Concurrent Versions System (CVSNT) 1.11.1.3 (Build 57a) (client/server). The JDeveloper version is 9.0.3.988 preview.This is the client version we test against and recommend. We have seen no problems here and can't reproduce this. Could you help us track this down by supplying the answers to the following questions?
1, What OS and CVS version is the server using?
2, For a file that is showing the incorrect overlay could you check the timestamp in the CVS\entries file and post that and the timestamp on the actual file system file?
3, What timezone are you currently working in and is daylight savings time in operation?
and finally
4, Is the CVS server in the same timezone?
Hopefully this will give us a good start on where the problem is.

We have already configured cvswrappers to properly handle binary files, but the cvs import function seems to ignore these settings, while cvs add uses it. If you try to import a project with some gif files using jdev, having configured cvs as described, these files will be corrupted. After this, if you add another gif file using cvs add function (not add binary) the settings will be used and the file are correctly stored.
It seems that to make the import command work properly, file types have to be explicitly specified for each binary file (-kb option) on the cvs command line. To verify this we have tried the same operations using wincvs client. Inspecting the log window, we see that the client explicitly force the file types (they use an internal filtering to recognize binary files instead of file extension):
cvs import -I ! -I CVS -W "*.gif -k 'b'" -m "no message" testmodule avendor areleaseRight, I'll add this information to the bug and make sure it gets evaluated.
4) After some types of CVS commands the CVS editors and CVS watchers windows becomes suddenly closed. Could yet tell me what these operations are so I can log a bug? We dont know if its effectively a bug, but the window becomes closed when automating layout switching occurs (if its enabled in preferences), for example: Im in the ide without any open editors (current layout Editing), I get the editors list, then I open an uiXML file (the layout switch to Web Editing) and the list disappears. Even if the layout switch back to Editing (automatically or manually) the list is not re-shown (its not saved in the layout).This is an issue with JDevs layout in that the SCM windows are not default in any layout and so they are closed when the switch occurs. This is being looked at for a future release.
3) The Edit Files command for the CVS source control ought to support the cvs edit option -c (to check that working files are unedited) and an option to execute an update command before the edit one, to have the most recent revision of that file. I'll add enhancement requests for these I especially like the update before edit suggestion. For team based development the reserved edit functionality (the -c option) would be very useful, especially for working with business components.I'll add your use case to the enhancement, as this is a very good reason to have "-c". Hopefully if we can implement 4) and integrate source control and BC4J better in a future release.
4) The opportunity to treat every type of BC4J object as a single CVS entity, taking all the files required by the single BC4J object grouped together and then checked-in, checked-out, etc. in a simple one-click operation. We would also like to have support for this in source control and it is a feature that is currently under investigation.It would be -very- useful if, while trying to edit a generic component under source control, jdev suggested (in the edit dialog window, for example) which other files are likely to be modified, giving the chance to edit them also (if not already). For example, trying to edit a ViewObject component, it will be probably needed also to edit the .jpx, the project, the business package descriptor, in addition to the component implementation and descriptor.Agreed.
We also have some doubts on the meaning of the dialog that often appears after a checkout or a folder update, asking New checked out files were detected; how would you like them to be dealt with?. Can you explain whats the behavior of each choice?The three choices breakdown as follows
1. Open checked out files in the active project
This adds all files to the project that is active in the IDE, if all files were already in the project no change will appear to occur. If new files have been downloaded they will now appear in the project
2. Create a New project for the checked out files
Generate a completely new fresh project from the checked out files, similar to the default behaviour of checkout module in JDev
3. Do not open a new checked out files.
Perform no action with the files, lets the user add them if they so wish.

Well, first, I want to make a question:
- If I use wine for playing Warcraft III, for example, I must use the -opengl option, and the image quality is reduced. If I use CVS Cedega (I guess it has DirectX compatibility), Can I have a more quality and performanced game using the DirectX? I have tried to run it in wine without -opengl option. The image quality is better, but my FPS go down from 22 to 5 xDDD
Second is about the Wine installer:
I have followed the wiki: Method 1: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cvscedega (I don't want to pay for cedega xD, and the Method 2 gives me lots of errors...)
After getting the script I had a ./configure error that I have solved doing:
cd /root/.WineCVS/sources/cvscedega/winex
autoconf
but when it arrives to compile it gives me errors so, as the wiki says, I have erased all the top comments. But it still gives me compilations errors:
make[2]: se ingresa al directorio `/home/davigetto/.WineCVS/sources/cvscedega/winex/tools/widl'
make[2]: No se hace nada para `all'.

Problem with CVS conflict in .jpr file
Hi,
we have a project that approx 4 people will work on. We use CVS to do this.
We have a workspace with several projects. Now, if 2 people work on a project and both add some new entity objects, and person A
commits his changes, person B will get CVS conflicts when updating the project from CVS. Yesterday, I was person B.
First question: how can we work together on a project without getting these conflicts all the time?
Second question is this specific conflict:
I closed jdeveloper (903prev), since there's no way to resolve the conflict from inside jdeveloper. I edited the file, and tried to resolve the conflict. This is the conflict in the .prj file:

Unfortunately this looks like BC4J is storing timestamps in both project and package files. This leads to unresolvable conflicts in the files and CVS marks them for your attention. The same thing would happen under any SCM system in a concurrent multi-user environment.
We use an external CVS client so we have no influence on its ability to merge files of this type, however we can hopefully change the format of the files in question in an attempt to prevent this from occuring.
I have logged bug 2561497 agianst BC4J and published it so it can be tracked via metalink.
The most help I can provide is that the numbers look like timestamps so choosing the higher of the two numbers each time should resolve the merge successfully.

We are having a LOT of problems with CVS and speed with JDeveloper 10.1.3.1.
Looking for changes in CVS it's literally locking our PC's up
for up to 5 minutes.
It eventually finishes but it's pretty painful. We
have decent PC's (p4 2.8ghz 1.0 gb ram) so we don't believe it's a resource issue.
We are using version CVS 1.11.21 on a HP-UX box. Our JDeveloper version
is 10.1.3.1 (preview). We also attempted the project with Jdeveloper 10.1.3.
We are using the CVS extension 10.1.3.39.14
When we go to find the incoming changes it pegs the CPU. It's a project
with nearly 1000 files. We have seen the same issue now on 4 different
PCs.
We have begun to think about Subversion for our source control for JDeveloper integration due to our issues with CVS
Two questions
1. Have you heard of this issue with CVS and JDeveloper before?
2. Do you recommend Subversion?

If you apply Service Pack 5 or go to the JDeveloper Developer Preview the issue exists.
The issue again is that the CVS plug in locks up your PC for up to 5 minutes when looking for incoming changes on large projects. It pegs the CPU at 100%. It's very easy to reproduce and we have seen it on at least four different PC's.
What is the best way to get visibility to this issue with Oracle? We are now stuck on 10.1.3.0.4 (SU3) with CVS putting us two service packs behind.

Permission problems with command line CVS and Java CVS App

I'm part of a moderately sized website development team which recently upgraded to MacBook Pros (dual core) running OS 10.4.9. One of the primary tools we use in our day to day work is the open source concurrent versioning system (CVS). We've noticed a distressing issue running CVS on our macbook pros: there seems to be a problem with the way these new machines handle permissions on the directories/files that CVS uses to manage files.
The error occurs when the CVS application, in this case both command line CVS and GUI CVS application named SmartCVS, tries to rename a temporary file named Entries~ to its new name Entries (no ~). It looks like this:

We've noticed that if we open up a get info window on the directory we're downloading, and choose "Apply to enclosed items" right when we start the download process, the issue will be resolved, presumably because the permissions are being set on the subdirectories as the download is taking place.
We've checked the permissions on the overall ~/Sites/ directory numerous times, and they always seem to be set correctly as drwxr-xr-x. It's within this folder that CVS creates a directory with the CVS module name and downloads all the contained files, so we don't see why it would be having issues completing this successfully. We also checked to ensure the GUI CVS application is running under the current user on the machine: it does.
Has anyone run into issues like this in the past? Is there more information I could provide to further clarify the problem we're having?

Problem with htmldb 2 (Sorry APEX)!
I installed htmldb 2 on a windows XP, Oracle 10gR1 (which has enhanced by companion CD downloaded form Oracle's site). Everything went OK but when I want to connect to it by this url: http://localhost:7777/pls/htmldb it takes my username,pass but says:

Please help! Strange problem with HTTPD.Conf and OC4J (I think)
Hi,
We have been trying to configure the 10g "infrastructure" Apache server/instance to work with our own authentication module, and as part of this, we need to configure a directory alias containing some of our JSPs. To do this, the only thing that we did was that we took the standard HTTPD.CONF file that got installed with the 10g AS installation, and added a small section at the end.
However, we are finding that if our addition to the HTTPD.CONF is included, instead of the JSPs in our aliased directory being processed, Apache seems to be just serving the JSPs as text pages :(..
If we remove the section at the end of the HTTPD.CONF, and point a browser to the unaliased path, the JSPs get processed correctly.
I was wondering if anyone here might take a look at our HTTPD.CONF below, and tell me if you can see something there that might be causing this behavior? The section that we added is at the very end. We think that the problem might be something like the "order" of the directives, etc. in the HTTPD.CONF file may be such that the alias is taking priority ahead of the OC4J, or something like that.

I wanted to post what we found on this.
As indicated in my original msg, we had an Alias directory in the httpd.conf. However, after thinking about the problem a bit, I think that the Alias was not the right thing to do.
The Alias tells Apache to map a URL fragment to a FILESYSTEM location. Well, obviously, Apache only SERVES pages... it doesn't process JSPs.
We switched to using a Redirect directive instead of the Alias, and things worked a little better, but we've run into a bit of a problem with "Redirect looping", but that's a different story :)...

i have problem with file path accessing in linux. my java class is accessing a abc.cvs file and and getting all data. it is working fine in windows xp. but i run this same file in linux it does not access the abc.cvs file and does not get any data.

It is working fine with window but problem with linux.

I develop a small educational application ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/pauker/ ). I work with JDK-1.4.0 on Mandrake Linux 8.2. At first I used serialized objects to save the lessons to a file. This worked well until I wanted to change some public members of the involved classes. That's why I switched over to the new and shiny XML. Now I have a different problem!
Pauker saves its lessons in gziped XML files. Users from all over the world can create lessons containing very different characters. There are European characters like ������� and asian characters. Loading this lessons on a system with a different encoding works fine. Saving such a lesson on a system with a different encoding can destroy the lesson.
Example:
On a german system a user creates a lesson with the letter � on a card side and saves it. A different user working on an english system loads this lesson. The character "�" is displayed correctly. The english user saves the lesson. The character "�" will be replaced by a question mark in the xml file. Next time the english user loads the lesson she will not see "�" but "?" on the display.
Here is a little example program that does the transformation in exactly the way Pauker does. Please test it out.

If you prefer to reply peronally, please use Ronny.Standtke at gmx.deI don't see how you can say that there's a problem with saving your XML files when the code you post doesn't actually save it to a file. Your transform is being written to a ByteArrayOutputStream, which isn't used except for this statement which I assume is for debugging:System.out.println(outputStream.toString());Of course that is useless for debugging the problem you describe, for two reasons:
1. the toString() method uses your system's default encoding, which may be ISO-8859-1 but is definitely not UTF-8. You could write toString("UTF-8") but that is a waste of time because:
2. You use System.out.println() to examine the data, which writes it to a console that also probably does not use UTF-8. I don't know what encoding it does use, but UTF-8 is unlikely.
So, save your files using the UTF-8 encoding as robadmin suggested. And to test the result, make sure you use a tool that understands the UTF-8 encoding. -

Workshop never works with CVS for me.
The CVS server is installed in Win 2000 machine. And it works fine when I do
CVS operations from other clients like
Inspite of asking BEA for many times, I could not solve the problem of
connecting to CVS NT Server.
SP2 also does not fixes the problem of connecting.
The error that I am getting is like this
cvs update: unknown method in CVSroot:
:ntserver:bkarthi@ets4218:F\\Aretail\\RepositoryCVS when I do any CVS
operation.
I know that the problem is in the CVSROOT.
Any body please tell me how can i connect to CVS NT Server means
provide me the correct CVSROOT for NT server which works with Workshop 8.1.
Also opened a case with BEA, a month ago but still no solution.

I came to know that the problem is the version of the CVSNT and cvs.exe that is available to Workshop through the environmental variable.
It is mandatory that we have to add cvs.exe to OS PATH. So that the workshop will launch this process.
This will solve the problem of create process.
But with problems that I faced, I understand that workshop is specific to particular version of "cvs.exe"
Now, I am able to access the CVS server from workshop but not with "ntserver" protocol. I am using "sspi" protocol.
I tried with "pserver" too, it works fine.
So I need to know which version of "cvs.exe", the developers are suppose to use.
Points to remember while configuring workshop with CVS.
1. correct "cvs.exe" should be in the PATH variable
2. Don't use "ntserver" protocol.
3. Use "pserver" or "sspi" ( I tested both. Works fine )
4. "pserver" protocol requires that the user should be logged in before doing a cvs operation.
5. To be functional , cvs module should be imported and check out before opening workshop. There is no built in method to import and check out from Workshop.
6. If want to customize workshop with cvs commands, CVSROOT variable should be defined before you launch the Workshop.

Forms/Designer 10g - problem with attached libraries
I've problem with forms with attached libraries. All of libraries have removed paths. I can run all forms without any problem on my local application server from Forms Builder 9i or Designer 9i. I added all paths in registry FORMS90_PATH. WORKINGDIRECTORY in formsweb.cfg is blank.
Unfortunately I can't do it with Developer 10g on second workstation. I added all paths in registry FORMS_PATH. WORKINGDIRECTORY in formsweb.cfg is blank too. When form is running I get ORA-06508. I can't store all files (fmb, fmx, pll, plx etc.) in one folder because I've to use CVS. In this case I can't set any folder in WORKINGDIRECTORY.Assuming Forms 10.1.2.x, FMX, MMX, PLX, and OLB files are found based on the value of FORMS_PATH which is set in default.env and not the Registry. This applies to runtime only. The Builder uses the Registry.
Understand that "runtime" refers to any time a form is displayed in a browser, regardless of whether is was started from the Builder or Application Server.
Also, be aware that if you have FMX, MMX, or PLX files which were created in older versions they must be recompiled using the 10.1.2 compiler. -
G530 - problems with the "easy program access" key
I have a 3000 G530 (model 4151) laptop, and so far I haven't really had any problems with it. Although recently, something happened with a little touch-sensitive button above my keyboard, in the upper right, next to the volume controls. I guess what it does is you can set it so that whenever you press it, it will just open up the program or document that you set it to. I'm not sure how this happened, but recently it started acting like I was repeatedly pressing it over and over. The setup window for the key opened about twice a second. I restarted my computer, and tried pressing the key. I set it to open a document I had (just to test it), and now it just opens up that document whenever I press it. Occassionally it will randomly open the document over and over, even when my hands were nowhere near it. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Did a little workaround... and all things went like a candy :)

today I tried to install kdemod, but got some problems with it. It couldn't be installed because of files conflict:
/usr/share/kde4/services/phonombackends/xine.desktop in 'phonom' and 'kdemod-kdebase-runtime'. What's wrong with it?

with the following compiler and standard C++ library :

Problem : I am supposed to create 1000 file streams,
but when I run my program, it creates only 254 file streams,

MediaRing Ltd., SingaporeCVS differentiate text and binary files (they are marked as one or the other by using a CVS option when adding the file). If a file is marked as text, cvs will perform line-end conversion if needed.
On Linux, line endings are coded as LF, whereas on Windows they're coded as CRLF. When you copied files from Windows to Linux, you probably did a binary copy, which left the CRLFs intact. When you checked those files into CVS on the Linux server, Linux CVS did not convert the CRLFs into LFs.
The result of this is that if you check the files out on Linux, they will still contain CRLF (which is wrong for Linux). You may verify this by checking out a file on Linux, then opening it using vi -b. The CRs should show as extra ^M's at the end of each line.
If, on the other hand, you check out the file on Windows, a conversion will take place, where all LFs are converted to CRLF. The result of this is that your file will contain CRCRLF at the end of each line.
The best way to fix this is probably to check everything out on the Linux box, remove every CR from every file, then check everything back in again.
